Jim Rutledge & Molly Brown roll on from the grand opening of Carbon World Health's new location in Sun Prairie, continuing to react to the Packers making ANOTHER move at kickers - releasing Greg Joseph and picking up Brayden Narveson off waivers. They're immediately joined by Mr. International himself Matt Hamilton calling in live from his curling trip out to Norway! Jim and Molly get Matt's gut reaction to the news that his guy Anders Carlson was let go yesterday, AJ Dillon is going on season-ending IR, and he answers the hard-hitting question of the day: should new Packers kicker Brayden Narveson's nickname be "The Narwhal"? Molly also asks Matt if he thinks Gutey is finally gonna regret letting go Aaron Jones now that Dillon is out for the season, or can Josh Jacobs the EVERY-DOWN guy? Jim also talks to Matt about his new tattoo in honor of his daughters -- Magnolia and Rosie --, and did Matt realize that Jim already had an owl tattoo? Throwing Stones includes Jim failing to flaunt his new tattoo on camera and Molly weighing the importance of her doctors appointment versus her court date for speeding! Jim & Molly wrap up Ashley Rodriguez to once again talk about all the great new offerings at Carbon World Health in Sun Prairie!

In today's episode, I have the opportunity to interview my dear friend, Ashley, a mom of three, about all things homeschooling. Ashley has such a great perspective to share because she taught in the public school system for years prior to making a career change, eventually deciding to stay home with her children full-time to homeschool them. This is a decision we know lots of mothers battle with and it's not something to take lightly! Ashley shares her story to provide insight into the homeschooling process, comparisons of homeschooling to the public school system, resources she uses to provide her children with the best possible experience, and considerations for mamas who are on the fence about homeschooling. Homeschooling can be an incredible way to facilitate your child's learning in a way that makes the most sense for them. Even if you decide to homeschool multiple children, Ashley talks about how you can customize the experience for each of them in different ways. Plus, she debunks the worry that so many parents have about their children missing out on socialization if they choose this path! Dan and Brian speak with Chad Shoopman, the Director of Athletic Bands for the University of Arizona, about why so many of the stories in the Arizona Musical Memory archive celebrate being in a band. His experiences in marching bands and working for many different Disney ensembles, both as a leader, and as a session player, give him an interesting perspective on the stories we share from the interviews we have collected. Many musical memories speak of the significance of marching bands, but Chad's insights teach Dan and Brian a thing or two about the transformative power of marching band, and the way it shapes people lives. Stories from Alexlis Rivera-Jinel, Khris Dodge, and Ashley Rodriguez answer why people might give hours in the heat, wearing uncomfortable uniforms, in an attempt to do something excellent together that they couldn't do on their own. Marching bands are more than just an elective in school; they may hold a secret on how to make the world a better place.
This is the story of 3 women, with different bodies, and different life experiences, coming together to get real...and naked. Real naked.Have you ever been to a Korean Spa (or some European Spa) that *surprise* encourages (or requires) dropping your robe? It is the most terrifying, exhilerating and liberating feeling. I, personally, cannot recommend it enough. While the trepidation has decreased over the years, it still exists-and maybe is part of the brave therapeutic process of being comfortable in your own skin. Even celebrating, and admiring your own skin-and the perfectly imperfect bodies around you.Listen in to 3 women describe their own experiences from a recent visit together. Hours and hours of blissful spa talk, therapy, and insight has been put into a 35 minute conversation. It is worth your time to listen. Hear our perspective and decide if you should bravely dip your toes in the blissful, confident waters. It's not often that we get to speak with an NBA legend on the show, but Miami Heat forward Jimmy Butler is no average NBA legend. He's a coffee geek, just like us, and we talk about his exciting new company, Big Face Coffee, and what inspires Jimmy's love for all aspects of coffee, including the farming, cupping, and barista work. We also talk about food in the NBA and hear about the coffee orders of some of his Heat teammates. Also on the show, we catch up with Ashley Rodriguez. Ashley is the boss barista behind the popular podcast and newsletter Boss Barista, and we welcome her to the show to talk about all things coffee. We learn about Ashley's long history working in coffee—as a writer and leader in a movement toward education and equality. We talk about the idea of “sweetness” in coffee, and together we go through her method in tasting and grading coffee. We also tackle the big topic of espresso. Is it a net positive for coffee? I loved catching up with Ashley and hope you learn a little bit more about one of the world's most popular beverages.More from Jimmy Butler and Ashley Rodriguez:Jimmy Butler Wants to Sell You a $100 Cup of Coffee [Fast Company]Loyalty Isn't Real [Boss Barista]How to Actually Taste Coffee and Forget About Those “Notes of Blueberries” [TASTE]

In episode one of our Applications of Forensic Science for Human Identification season, Just Science sat down with Dr. Heather McKiernan, a Research Forensic Scientist at RTI International, and Ashley Rodriguez, a Research Public Health Analyst at RTI International, to discuss the use of forensic genetic genealogy in identifying human remains. Oftentimes, unknown human remains are recovered fully or partially skeletonized with no close biological relatives in CODIS to facilitate identification. Therefore, combining non-traditional DNA testing with genealogical methods and research has become a powerful investigative tool to bring closure to families. Listen along as Dr. McKiernan and Ashley discuss how forensic genetic genealogy differs from searching a DNA profile in CODIS, what limitations exist when using DNA technologies to identify unknown remains, and the importance of familial reference samples. This episode is funded by the National Institute of Justice's Forensic Technology Center of Excellence.

We spend so little time outside these days that in some places, doctors are actually prescribing National Park passes to help people connect with nature. We don't need science to tell us what we already know: we are healthier and happier when we're outside. This is the basis for this week's conversation with Ashley Rodriguez, a certified Nature & Forest Therapy Guide and recent graduate from Seminary of the Wild. She is on a mission to help us examine our connection to Earth and find a more reciprocal relationship. It's an inspiring, hope-filled episode packed with her knowledge and flecked with ways to rekindle our connection to this beautiful Earth we call home.

Last year, Chris and Ashley spoke with Daniel Winkler and had an awesome conversation about all things mushrooms! We wanted to revisit that conversation now that more activities are opening up and people are getting together and getting outside. The original episode description is below including links to all that was talked about. We should say this first and foremost NEVER eat anything in the wild unless you are 100% certain of what you are eating.Chris and Ashley discuss all things Mushrooms with Daniel Winkler. Daniel is a world renowned expert on Mushrooms. He travels to different parts of the world studying mushrooms and guiding mushroom eco-tours. He has written field guides which we find really useful and has been very involved in the Puget Sound Mycological Society, one of the largest mushroom societies in North America. Funny story, once when we were out foraging with Daniel in the woods we ran into a woman and her son who were also foraging mushrooms. She right away recognized Daniel and even told her son, “This is one of mommy's heroes!” He's also just an all around good guy and easy to talk to about all things mushrooms. We love his approach to getting out and learning. And to not forage out of fear.Links: Mushroaming - Daniel's mushroom websitePSMS - Puget Sound Mycological SocietyKitchen Unnecessary Video Episode foraging Chanterelles with DanielA Field Guide to Edible Mushrooms of the Pacific Northwest by Daniel WinklerA Field Guide to Edible Mushrooms of California by Daniel WinklerMedicinal Mushroooms of North America field guide by Daniel WinklerBook: The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse by Charlie MackesyBook: Mushrooms Demystified by David Arora

Janine Between the Lines: literature & lifestyle for leisure
Today's comeback episode is a long awaited OTT (Off Topic Times) with one of the host's favorite people on this earth. The host and guest get into the new year tradition discussing 2021 goals, new transformations, and mediocre but entertainingly genuine relationship advice via the r/relationshipadvice thread on Reddit, in honor of the late Valentine's Day episode which wasn't posted due to technical difficulties. Credits and shouts outward to @approachablepod and Must Be Nice podcast for the inspiration for two of the segments in this episode. Thank you guys forever for sticking around and being a support system from the beginning; I am adamant that this is a year of consistency and big events happening for my little beetles! Oddly enough, my reckless decision to think of this episode description when I should be sleeping and have to be awake in three hours bodes well for my dedication to reignite my poor, neglected podcast. Do not forget to follow @k_r0ddd on Twitter and Instagram, and follow @JanineBTL on Twitter for the most recent updates. Give this episode some loves and shares if you haven't already, and I will see you guys in the next one! *also trying this new season thing! In our first-ever live episode, the gang goes bowling by covering the Super Bowl. Of course, Thespian Papi (Terrell Huff), as the only resident 49ers fan, had to spend it with his family; instead, Tre Blanco (Edd White III) took over again. Part 1 of this madness has it all. D.R. mess-ups. Daniel catchphrases and an outright coup by the ladies of the podcast (Ashley Rodriguez, Shyann Davidson, and Morgan Ned) who take over to cover the Super Bowl halftime show. It's a party from beginning to end with a cliffhanger conclusion.
Welcome to the Matchbook Coffee Project Podcast, the show were we learn more about the folks roasting your monthly coffees. I'm Ashley Rodriguez. So, we've been interviewing people for Matchbook since the beginning. The very first interview I did was with Jamie Smith, then of Sightglass Coffee and now of Coffee Manufactory, was done over beers at a shitty dive bar on Valencia Street in San Francisco, and they're always a delight for me to write because I get to learn the cool, the weird, and the personal stories behind the folks who roast coffee for this project. However, we've wondered recently—who is actually reading these interviews? We kind of have no idea. But, as Shelby Williamson, who is the featured roaster for the month of August, pointed out, roasters have headphones in ALL THE TIME. Many of you folks listen to something, anything, for hours on end, and we thought, maybe this is a better way for you to get to know the people you're ordering coffee from. There's a lot of directions that this could go in. We're hoping for this to both be a personal insight into the folks we feature, but also a living record of roasters. We want to chronicle your stories around roasting coffee, and hopefully others who are thinking about or do currently roast can use this as a reference point, and discover what folks across the country are doing when they turn coffee from green to brown. Our very first interview is with Shelby, who I mentioned earlier. Shelby is the current 2019 United States Roasting Champion and is the head roaster for Huckleberry Coffee in Denver, Colorado. Shelby is easily one of the most affable and friendly people I've ever chatted with, and we learn how a childhood with fuzzy cable connections lead her to a life of roasting coffee.
