We've seen our fair share of heinous crimes that involved a snap - someone had a life-altering moment and lost their mind, leading to the frenzied commission of a horrible crime. The case we're discussing today (in our opinions) is not that. Sydney Powell was a college student who was expelled when her grades dipped below probation standards. Instead of coming home with her tail between her legs, she lied to her parents and continued to live in/around the dorms and even attend classes. When it appeared that the "jig was up" because Sydney's mother, Brenda, got a phone call from Sydney's university, Sydney brutally murdered her mother with a frying pan.

Today is Election Day—at long last. I am exhausted, and I suspect many of you feel the same way. I am in Georgia to cover this important day in history for the PBS News Hour. I'm sure you know by now Georgia is one of the seven swing States where the actual decision will be made on who is our next president. Despite no evidence to support the notion, Donald Trump and his allies have repeatedly questioned the Integrity of the vote tallying process in this country.  Georgia became one of the main targets of these so-called election deniers in the wake of the 2020 election. But long before the likes of Mike Lindell and Sidney Powell descended on places like Coffee County to try and steal the presidency from Joe Biden, Donna Curling was raising questions about the security and integrity of the machines that Georgia uses to record and tabulate votes. The lawsuit, now called “Curling v. Rafensperger,” began when Donna had just moved to Georgia and voted on machines made by Diebold, which left no verifiable paper trail of voter intent. She was dismayed by this, eventually leading her and the other plaintiffs to sue the state in 2017 to stop using the machines. The machines that the state bought in 2019 to replace the DREs are so-called Ballot Marking Devices made by Dominion Voting Systems. Curling and her fellow plaintiffs believe these devices are still vulnerable. They have consistently advocated for what computer scientists say is the gold standard for voting: paper and pen. Oh, the irony. So, the suit remains active even as the BMDs do here in Georgia. Hopefully, election deniers will not raise false allegations about the performance of these machines - using them as a way of planting seeds of doubt in the Integrity of the election. As for Donna Curling, she will continue her fight to have Georgia join the 70% of voters in the United States using hand-marked paper ballots.  I had a great conversation with her. I hope you enjoy it. #ElectionDay #Democracy #VotingIntegrity #newshour

Special Counsel Jack Smith's recent court filing details not only the crimes committed by Donald Trump but the crimes committed by his alleged co-conspirators, folks like Rudy Giuliani, John Eastman, Sidney Powell, Kenneth Chesebro, and others. Smith included this information for a reason: the legal doctrine of co-conspirator liability provides that once someone joins a conspiracy, that person can be held criminally responsible for every crime committed by every other member of the conspiracy, provided the crime was a reasonably foreseeable consequence of the nature of the conspiracy. Conspiracy law further provides that every incriminating statement made by every member of the conspiracy is admissible against every other member of the conspiracy if the statements were made during the course of and in furtherance of the conspiracy. Glenn discusses, in English rather than legalese, these two legal principles as they apply to Trump and his co-conspirators, as detailed in Smith's 165-page court filing. If you're interested in supporting our all-volunteer efforts, you can become a Team Justice patron at: / glennkirschner If you'd like to support us and buy Team Justice and Justice Matters merchandise visit:https://shop.spreadshirt.com/glennkir...Check out Glenn's website at https://glennkirschner.com/Follow Glenn on:Threads: https://www.threads.net/glennkirschner2Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/glennkirschner2Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/glennkirschner2Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/glennkirsch...See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Can Jack Smith's new filing secure a conviction of Donald Trump? Spoiler alert: it's complicated. In this all-new episode, legal experts Asha Rangappa and Renato Mariotti dive deep into the complexities of the latest unsealed filing in the Washington D.C. district federal court seeking to break through presidential immunity and put Donald Trump on criminal trial for crimes stemming from his alleged attempts to overturn the 2020 election. Subscribe to our Patreon here, where paid members will get access to exclusive portions of this show. patreon.com/reallyamericanmedia Our hosts take a comprehensive look at the strategic elements and rigorous arguments presented in the immunity brief, which serves as a roadmap for Jack Smith's bold new prosecution strategy based on a fairly recent, superseding indictment. And they'll provide insights into how Smith is specifically challenging Trump's claim of presidential immunity, asserting that his actions were in his capacity as a presidential candidate, rather than in an official capacity. You'll hear about the extraordinary level of detail in the filing, which weaves together a variety of evidence to paint the picture of Trump's alleged conspiracy and misconduct. Renato highlights Smith's strategic use of Trump's tweets, which provides a clear differentiation between his official and personal statements. Asha and Renato also break down the significant role of Trump's legal advisors like Rudy Giuliani and Sidney Powell, who not only provided legal cover for questionable activities, but may have also contributed to the smokescreen of legitimacy around claims of election fraud.  Lastly, Asha explains how the  committee also laid the groundwork for much of the evidence now seen in Jack Smith's prosecution filing. Our hosts reveal the impact of the January 6th committee's findings on shaping public understanding of these events, and explore the potential defenses Trump will likely employ.  We hope you enjoy this episode. Former Staffer Says Melania Hates Trump And Wants Harris To Win Election

Melania Trump has been almost completely absent from her husband's reelection campaign, and a former Trump official believes he knows the reason. According to Anthony Scaramucci, the big reason why Melania isn't hitting the campaign trail is because she hates her husband and wants Kamala Harris to win in November. Scaramucci may or may not still have connections inside the campaign, but you don't even need insider knowledge to see that Melania can't stand her husband. Also, a group of Donald Trump's election-denying allies from Pennsylvania have been hit with a million dollars in fines for their involvement in the scheme to get their hands on voting machines in Fulton County, Georgia. This was the scheme that was put together by Sidney Powell and led to multiple criminal charges against Trump and his allies in the state, and now the law is coming for everyone else involved. And Donald Trump has managed to once again anger his MAGA base, and this time it happened in a state that he can't afford to lose: Florida. Florida conservatives are furious at Trump because he recently came out in support of a ballot measure that would legalize marijuana in the state - something that he understands is going to bring a lot of people to the polls. This is the second time in the last few days that Trump has managed to alienate parts of his ever-shrinking base, and he can't afford it at this point. Finally, Donald Trump's speeches are becoming more and more incoherent as his cognitive issues take their toll on him, but the media isn't giving nearly enough attention to these glaringly obvious problems. In a recent op-ed, an author called out the media for refusing to cover Trump's mental problems with the same veracity and enthusiasm that they had when they covered President Biden's mental flubs - and once Biden dropped out they stopped talking about the issue altogether. Subscribe to our YouTube channel to stay up to date on all of Farron's content: https://www.youtube.com/FarronBalancedFollow Farron on social media!Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FarronBalancedTwitter: https://twitter.com/farronbalancedInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/farronbalancedTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@farronbalanced?lang=enText and and let us know your thoughts on today's stories!

Gaslit Nation
Merrick Garland Lets MAGA Steal the Election [TEASER]

Gaslit Nation

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 3, 2024 34:20

In 2000, Republicans stole Florida by scrubbing voter rolls and stopping the recount. In 2004, Republicans stole Ohio by suppressing the vote through deliberately engineered long voting lines and other election day chaos. In 2024, Republicans are throwing everything they can at Georgia. Republican officials in the state are helping them, even those harassed by Trump's Big Lie.    If MAGA can't steal the Electoral College outright, their fallback plan is to get close, drawing a tie. This would send the election to the House of Representatives. There, MAGA loyalist Mike Johnson, who blocked urgently needed Ukraine aid for six critical months, giving Russia the advantage on the battlefield, would likely pick Trump. The Senate, in control of Democrats, would pick the Vice President, likely Kamala Harris, who would then very likely be replaced by Trump's White House as the Heritage Foundation massacres the government with Project 2025, Christian nationalism's decades long plan to establish a dictatorship. They have 10,000 Trump loyalists already in place, ready to carry this out, according to a recent report by ProPublica.    In March, the U.S. sanctioned two PR firms in Russia hired by the Kremlin to manipulate Americans into spreading disinformation to “divide and conquer” Trump's opposition in the 2024 election. So it begs the question, why isn't the DOJ, the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security, and Secretaries of State stepping up to stop homegrown threats?:    Why is the Christian nationalist group Ziklag allowed to fund EagleAI, which empowers MAGA activists to challenge voter registrations, including 10,000 voters in Georgia? (Remember, Trump only needed 11k votes to win Georgia in 2020).    Why is the Department of Homeland Security allowing voting machines in Georgia or anywhere in the country whose data was breached by MAGA loyalist Sidney Powell, with that data already spread among MAGA and possibly to foreign adversaries, like Russia?  Why is the DOJ letting Elon Musk fund a new version of Cambridge Analytica, targeting voters in swing states?  Why are the Secretaries of State allowing around 70 MAGA loyalists with histories of refusing to certify elections to remain in positions of power in 16 counties in six swing states, including Georgia, Arizona, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania, especially given the history of such loyalists to break the law, as they did in Georgia, helping Sidney Powell steal sensitive voting machine data?    This week's bonus show also looks at J.D. Vance's war on people who don't birth children. That brings us to this viral quote from a recent article published on the site of The Heritage Foundation, architects of Project 2025: “Joseph Stalin had an utter disregard for human life, and his regime claimed the lives of 9,000,000-20,000,000 of its own subjects. Rundown -    Intro - 00:34   Craig reviews Dr. Eric Coomer's Civil Case - 11:03   Troubadour Dave Gunders - 01:21:12   "Song Of Columbus" by Dave Gunders - 01:24:41   Outro - 01:29:41   There have been massive delays in the Denver District Court civil case of Coomer v. Trump, Giuliani, Powell, Malkin, Oltmann, Salem Corporon, et al. Still, many court filings allow us to play the sound that makes the case—Trump's Big Lie flowed out of Colorado.   Trace the 'sound' trail from the crucial weeks following the 2020 election. During this time, #DenverTrumpRadio stations, 630KHOW and 710KNUS, played a significant role in amplifying dual aspects of Trump's despicable efforts. Notably, Jenna Ellis used the Den Caplis show as a platform to promote the 'Stop the Steal' narrative.   Hear Oltmann's frequent guesting on 710KNUS (Salem-Colorado) at the end of 2020, where he set forth his tall, destructive tale that he intercepted Eric Coomer's alleged Antifa conference call, in which he pledged to rig the election against Trump through Dominion Voting Systems.   Listen chronologically as Oltmann, with allies and sponsors like Mike Lindell, spreads his defamations about Dr. Eric Coomer. It begins with Randy Corporon, who worked with fellow lawyers Jenna Ellis and Sidney Powell. Next, Oltmann's radio appearances with Deb Flora, George Brauchler and Peter Boyles get reviewed.   A sound record is made here of how American democracy has been getting destroyed from within by MAGA manipulations and disinformation. Hear the incriminating words of the media members who helped bring disaster to our democracy with their normalization of MAGA.   Authoritarianism and disinformation march in when democracies and the courts react way too slowly. We advance the Coomer case by letting you hear the evidence for yourself. The trial may still be years away, but we have the sound today. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/08/24/magazine/eric-coomer-dominion-election.html   The host just went to Spain to gain new perspectives on America from Marbella and Seville. The NY v Trump trial is going fast, but not most other MAGA-related litigation. The view of America from Europe right now is trepidation. Show Troubadour Dave Gunders brings us his classic, "Song for Columbus," about a Spanish voyager.

Fani Willis Under Fire: Unjustified Political Persecution of Former President Trump

In a new development that could tip the scales, Fani Willis, the under-fire District Attorney for Fulton County, finds herself thrust into a new skirmish over her role in the RICO case filed against the former U.S. President Donald Trump and other key players revolving around events following the 2020 Georgia elections. Prominent personalities involved alongside Trump are his past chief of staff Mark Meadows, Rudy Giuliani, the former President's ex-personal attorney, and associates Cathy Latham and Michael Roman. These co-defendants are challenging a questionable verdict by Fulton County Superior Court judge Scott McAfee made over a month ago that enabled Willis to maintain control over the case, despite the departure of the former special prosecutor Nathan Wade. What's at the heart of the matter is Willis' relationship with Wade and additional measures taken regarding the case's prosecution, all of which, claim the defendants, undermine her position. These concerns have led ex-DeKalb County District Attorney Robert James to urge a thorough probe of the case by the appeals court, underlining a paucity of legal precedence in this scenario. Describing the situation as 'uncharted territory,' James further forecasts a lengthy review process in the offing, with a resolution not likely to emerge before November's elections. In the meantime, four involved parties – bail bondsman Scott Hall and attorneys Sidney Powell, Kenneth Chesebro, and Jenna Ellis – have admitted to charges, whereas the remaining defendants, including Trump himself, have refuted any misconduct and entered not-guilty pleas. Last month provided a significant move when the appeals court consented to examine Trump's case and granted him a ten-day window to file. Trump's legal representative, Steve Sadow, cast the issue as an opportunity for the former President to put forth compelling arguments for both the dismissal of the case and the disqualification of Willis due to her 'improper conduct in this unjustified, unwarranted political persecution.'See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

What You Need to Know is about the cost of lawfare. Dean Eastman, Sydney Powell, and Jeff Clark are all having to spend absurd legal costs in the face of unrelenting lawfare, only because they did what the Democrats were advocating for back in 2000. Get an alternate slate of electors in case the facts of the election were fishy. Now that we have seen the fishiest election in U.S. history, it was necessary. The cost is not just monetary, though. The slurs and smears of lawfare are damaging the reputation and abilities of people who have important positions in American society. Lawfare is devastating, and they only use it on the people who can really make a difference.  Kent Heckenlively is an attorney, science teacher, and New York Times bestselling author. He joins Ed to discuss his most recent book, which is also his fiction debut: The King of Italy: A Novel. Kent explains how he got into fiction writing and how it was always a passion of his that he is grateful to be able to engage in. John Mauck, attorney representing Kaya Hudgins, joins Ed to discuss the good fight he is fighting in the Chicago public schools. Kaya Hudgins alleged that her school coerced her into participating in Eastern religious practices. Hudgins believed that this was a violation of her religious liberty, and now the attorneys at Mauck & Baker are fighting for Hudgins in the case. Wrap Up: Biden and Zelensky scheming a 10-year funding agreement (NO loans, just gives), and it's not even just “lethal” military aid. This is rebuilding and propping up a nation. And guess what? It looks like Speaker Johnson knew it before he passed the bill. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

SERIES 2 EPISODE 92: BULLETIN EDITION/COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN BULLETIN: (1:40) In literally his last 24 hours in office, Donald Trump ordered a 10-inch thick binder of raw, ultra-secret intelligence about Russia interference, spying, and disinformation in this country - and American means of uncovering it - brought to the White House. He began to declassify it over the objection of every intelligence chief. His chief of staff Mark Meadows summoned disgraced ex-journalist John Solomon to the White House and handed him countless pages of the vital classified intelligence and a Solomon staffer "was even allowed to leave the White House with the declassified records in a paper bag.” The original unredacted binder, containing thousands of pages, has never been recovered in the nearly three years since it was last seen in Trump's hands. This comes from a new report this morning from CNN - startling even in the context of Trump's previously revealed treachery, treason, and intelligence theft. The implications of the report are obvious: Trump may still have the binder. Or he may have given it to someone else (the report implicates his former Chief of Staff Mark Meadows). Or he may have given it to a foreign country. Or sold it. And perhaps more importantly: WHAT did Trump hope to achieve by giving its contents to John Solomon the night before Joe Biden's 2021 inauguration? Solomon was literally stopped as he scanned the documents, presumably for publication, by White House lawyers who demanded he return what Trump had given him. Was Trump hoping that the small percentage of documents that pertained to "Operation Crossfire Hurricane" would serve as a pretext for him to act to STOP the Biden Inauguration by using the Insurrection Act, or by other pretext, and with the military's help? Is this nightmare of Trump stealing thousands of pages of intelligence about Russia's perfidy in our country - its violation of our national borders - its virtual invasion of our country, simply the preface for a darker plot in which Trump would have used the material as an excuse to illegally remain in power? Does he still have the binder? Does he still have the plan? (14:35) SPECIAL COMMENT: After spending their lives as bullies, Donald John Trump and Rudolph William Louis Giuliani will go out as cowards. Guess who did NOT testify yesterday as testimony ended in the Ruby Freeman/Shay Moss/Rudy Giuliani case? Yes, the defendant, who had promised after court Monday and Tuesday that he would testify, prove that he was telling the truth about them, and that they were lying about him. Instead, his lawyer was reduced to painting Giuliani as a pathetic "flat-earther" who could never process reality. Giuliani said nothing as the case concluded and the jury deliberated for three hours what he should make out the check for - and they didn't reach a conclusion. When it takes jurors more than one day to decide how much money you owe the people you lied about, guess what: you're going to owe the people you lied about… eleventy billion dollars. It has been quite the week for Trumpian cowardice, led by Trump himself, because if the whole Giuliani "I'll prove I'm right" posturing sounds familiar, Trump did the SAME THING this week. He vowed to tell the truth – under oath - about the New York Business Fraud judge and the clerk and the attorney general and then suddenly, he vanished. Cowardice was on sale at popular prices in Trump-land this week. In ATLANTA yesterday the letters of apology required for the plea deals for Trump 19 confessed conspirators Sidney Powell and Kenneth Chesbro were obtained through a Public Records Act motion and combined they stretched to just 26 words. The importance of Giuliani and Trump wimping out is that it underscores that when the spit hits the fan, the bullies ARE the first to run. The lesson in this is simple: hit them. Hit them every day. Hit them with every lawsuit, every indictment, every protest, every public mockery, every embarrassment. Hit them with everything you have, every day, for the rest of their lives. Because what Trump proved by NOT being in a New York courtroom Monday, and what Giuliani proved by squirming at the defense table yesterday, is that you CAN break them. Both of them. Maybe not all at once, maybe not permanently. But they cannot bullshit their way out of EVERYTHING. ALSO: You'll never believe how bad Vivek Ramaswamy's CNN ratings were. Or Charles Barkley's. And guess what else is back? Cajun Congressman Clay Higgins' "Ghost Buses" delusion. Except now they're MISSING! Complete with an interview by delusional ex-reporter Lara Logan. And her show literally opens with video of Logan playing in traffic.
