This week we're proud to feature Speaker, Author, Filmmaker, Conservationist and Ocean Pioneer, Chris Bertish. Chris has scored a number of incredible achievements, including his legendary victory at Mavericks, the big wave Californian surf break. In this interview we talk about his record-breaking 2016 crossing of the Atlantic by SUP which is captured in his newly released documentary 'Last Known Coordinates'. We were able to grab some time with Chris, speaking to him from his family beach house in South Africa. Despite the odd loss of signal, we managed to capture a fascinating interview which showcased his uncompromising attitude and methodical approach, which has propelled Chris to so many epic achievements. We talk about how to push your comfort zone and adaptability, being comfortable with change and not just surviving but thriving despite managing difficult and changing environments. While we don't personally expect to be paddling the Atlantic anytime soon, we hope that this interview will give you the everyday inspiration to keep going, embrace spending time outside your comfort zone and really go all in for your passion, whatever it is. Chris's next challenge is to wing-foil the Pacific in 2022 in his Transpac https://chrisbertish.com/project/transpac-wing/ (project) making the first carbon neutral crossing from California to Hawaii and crossing 2750 miles of open ocean. When it comes to big-wave personalities, there’s certainly all types, but traditionally, these personalities have been, well…big. There’s the “Are you not impressed?” chest beaters. There’s the incorrigible closeout-slab-hunting hellmen (and women). There’s the egomaniacs. The wanna-be Lairds. The actual Laird. And then there’s a rare gem like San Clemente’s Rusty Long. The quiet-type. The epitome of anti-ego. A guy who’s been rushing in extremely heavy water since his teens (often, with younger brother Greg Long), Rusty’s created a life devoted to big-wave riding, with various homes in strategic big wave zones across the globe. Lucky for us, longtime Rusty-fan and podcast host, Jamie Mitchell, coaxed more than a few words and great stories from the elusive dark horse, himself, in Episode 4.
