You are going to attract more of what you want when you are naturally standing in your truth. In those moments of sharing what you truly feel and think, you discover that your uniqueness does not need to suffer. This episode talks about expressing what we want. I became a certified Stand Up Paddle Board yoga instructor. It was an intensive weekend but a lot of fun. It gave me great exposure to different people and how they do yoga. Since I was around people that I completely don't know, I took the opportunity to connect with how I communicate what I want. I'm here to spend quality solo time with you for EP96's Wise Walk as we discover our True Stride. My typical default is to people-please. I'm highly observant so I can easily read a room. Since I can sense what others want or need, sometimes my high empathy may prevent me from speaking up on what I want. There are times to be observant and silent, and there are times to speak up. I thought: If I know what I want, why not share it just like everyone else in the group? On our Wise Walk, I talk about how you can express what you want to validate yourself. I urge you to realize that your voice is just as important as the people around you. Come with me as we reflect on these Wise Walk questions: When you are in new situations or a new environment, how often do you find yourself not sharing your voice? Is it because you don't know what you want or because you have been conditioned to have a “go along & get along” mentality? If you do refrain from speaking up and sharing your truth, do you find yourself disappointed with yourself because how could anyone know what you really want if you're not willing to put yourself out there and share? If you find yourself holding back in new situations, is there a way for you to drop into your heart, go deep, and understand what you want, then bravely share that without attachment? As you're on this Wise Walk, is there a way for you to start exercising this muscle of speaking up? When you share what feels right for you, will you notice how it makes you feel? The universe is encouraging you to speak up and own your truth. Try it and see what comes your way. By sharing what you want, everything around you will do a better job of supporting you. Share your unique perspective to honor yourself. Let's key in on what we really want with these Wise Walk questions: Where in your life can you speak up and share what you want whether you're asked or not? Where can you drop into your heart and say “Ok, this is what I want” and who can you share that with? When you do speak up, can you release the attachment of what you want? Join this inspiring community to uncover a new sense of freedom, and be sure to follow and review the True Stride podcast as we continue to exchange our light and Heart Value with each other. In this episode: [00:23] - Welcome to the show! [02:29] - Mary Tess shares how she dropped into her heart to discern what she wanted from what was being offered. [04:51] - Share your unique perspective. [07:37] - Are you allowing people to see you for who you really are? [10:17] - Mary Tess tends to observe and watch the flow of group dynamics. How does she get the courage to speak her truth? [13:01] - Communicating what you want can help others show up for you or help you have a good experience. [15:12] - Mary Tess explains how she shares her preferences with her friends, whether it's food or travel. [17:20] - What happens when people aren't used to you speaking up? [20:11] - Stand in what you find is true for yourself. [21:41] - Thank you for listening! Do you want to learn how to stand up paddleboard in Lake Atitlan Guatemala? I had the chance to interview Marshall, a Canadian expat who currently lives in Atitlan with his wife Annette. He's a big fan of Latin American food and says that the weather is perfect year-round. Listen to my interview with https://arewehomeyetpodcast.com/welcome-to-the-are-we-home-yet-podcast/ (Are we home yet? podcast )episode 29 guest, Marshall, about fully enjoying expat life in Lake Atitlan Guatemala and running a Stand Up Paddleboard business. Guatemala is a fascinating country to live in, both for its weather and its culture. The country has a thriving Aboriginal culture, and it is interesting to see how the indigenous people of Guatemala are still living in their ancestral ways. Living among their culture is quite an experience, and it is also fascinating to watch as they interact with the modern world. From a weather perspective, Guatemala is just a fantastic place to live, it's called the land of Eternal Spring. The climate is perfect for those who love the outdoors, and there are plenty of activities to keep you busy. Whether you enjoy hiking, biking, or simply spending time in nature, you'll find that Guatemala has something to offer. In addition to its great weather, Guatemala also boasts a rich cultural heritage. If you're interested in learning about the country's history and customs, you'll be sure to find plenty of opportunities to do so. Whether you're looking for an adventure-filled vacation or a peaceful place to call home, Guatemala is sure to please. One of the most notable features of Guatemala is Lake Atitlan, a large lake in the southwestern part of the country. Lake Atitlan Guatemala was once voted one of the "Most Beautiful Lake in the world." It is located in the Highlands of Guatemala, nestled amid mountains and volcanoes, and lush vegetation. Visitors to Lake Atitlan Guatemala can enjoy the stunning scenery, relax in the peaceful atmosphere, and explore the rich culture of the local people. Every year thousands of people come to experience its beauty for themselves. Lake Atitlan Guatemala is more than three miles long and up to a mile wide, with depths reaching over 1,000 feet and incredibly clear. Its shores are dotted with small villages, and its waters are home to many different kinds of fish. Lake Atitlan Guatemala is also a popular spot for kayaking, fishing, hiking, swimming, and thanks to Marshall, stand up paddleboarding, through his company Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) Atitlan. Lake Atitlan Guatemala is one of the most beautiful places on Earth. But it's not just the scenery that makes the beautiful Lake Atitlan Guatemala special. Lake Atitlan Guatemala is also home to a wide variety of wildlife, including rare species of fish, birds, and reptiles. In addition, the lake is an important cultural center for the Maya people. For centuries, the Maya have been drawn to Lake Atitlan for its spiritual power. Even today, many Maya pilgrims make the journey to the lake to offer prayers and sacrifices to the Gods. With its natural beauty and rich history, it's no wonder that the beautiful Lake Atitlan Guatemala is considered one of the seven wonders of Guatemala. https://arewehomeyetpodcast.com/standup-paddleboard-lake-atitlan-guatemala/ (If you want to know more insider knowledge about living in Lake Atitlan Guatemala and stand up paddleboarding, click this link to tune in to episode 29 of the Are We Home Yet podcast and hear more from Marshall!) https://are-we-home-yet.captivate.fm/listen (Subscribe, Download, Share, Rate, Review the podcast!)

We discovered the beautiful paddling opportunities below the Nine Mile Dam. Great park, put in was easy and the area was perfect for an afternoon of Kokopelli Paddling. If you have listen to our podcast and have heard us talk about our Packrafts...do yourself a favor and go to their website and buy one. They are the most fun day paddling vessel Ive ever paddled. So much more fun then a Stand Up Paddle Board, easier to store and maneuver then a hard-shell kayak and can handle flat water as well as BIG whitewater. https://kokopelli.comYou won't be sorry!!!

Well done to all instructors for your hard work expanding our SUP tribe and wishing you a great season! Ian's Article - This is the best independent information on buying your SUP out there!STARTING OUT GUIDECHOOSING A BOARD The most commonly asked question on any sup group worldwide we want to help by giving a quick intro to board and paddle choice for any of our group members. * POINT 1 * In reality you have 2 categories of boards being 1) Inflatable and 2) Hard construction. 1) An inflatable board is one that is stored in a bag, but when ready for use can be rolled out and pumped up. 2) A hard board uses a build material of a foam core wrapped in either an epoxy or carbon, much like a normal surf board. Within each category (inflatable and hard board) you have subsets including : All rounder, Tourer, Race, Downwind and Surf sups. * POINT 2 * Inflatable: PROS If storage space is limited then the isup or inflatable is a great option. You don't need roofbars on a car to transport them as they can easily fit into a car boot. They're light to carry (some are heavier than others) They're not as easily damaged as a hard board so can be dropped or laid on concrete for example without risking cracking the hard board skin. Great as a shared family board for mucking about on. CONS They are affected more by wind as they often sit higher in the water. They don't have the more refined shapes that hard boards have. They're not as adept at surfing or more performance oriented sup. They can puncture and deflate. Hard board: PROS The board designer can refine a shape and has way more control over... Was ist Stand-Up Paddling (SUP) überhaupt? Wer weiß was da auf mich wartet. Erin O'Malley is a BOTE ambassador and owner of Sunset Standup Paddle in Laguna Beach, CA.Sound Bites“The most challenging place has always been... Los Angeles. We have the Pacific Ocean but there aren't a lot of waterways like we have here in Florida. You've got swells, and wind, and waves, and it's tricky because I like to fish… It's a whole thing. You've gotta pack your car, drive somewhere then carry your board down a cliff. It's cold.” - Sean Murphy, BOTE Director of Photography “The most interesting place was Boston in the wintertime… for a photoshoot called The Perfect Season. I went to school in Boston, in spring and fall it's easy breezy but in January we were paddling in snow and ice. Man, we paddled through the downtown area at four or five in the morning. FROZEN. It was so cool.” - Sean Murphy, BOTE Director of Photography “I've got a farm pond that's on about 10 acres. People don't think of ponds as being a place to stand up paddle board, they think of more expansive bodies of water like lakes and rivers. But just paddling around the edge of the pond to fish for bass and bream beats a johnboat any day.” - Corey Cooper, BOTE CEO and Co-Founder
Welcome back to the Beneath the Surface podcast. In this episode—the thirtieth(!) installment— Corey and Sean alleviate apprehensions about paddle boarding. After all these years, still one of the most common questions people have about paddle boarding is: “Can I do it?” The short answer? Yes. The 25-minute answer outlined in this podcast? Also yes. Emphatically yes. As Corey says, “This sport wouldn't be so popular if it wasn't easy.”In Beneath the Surface: You Can Do It, Corey and Sean detail why paddle boarding is an activity for everyone. Not just that, but why it's an excellent activity for everyone. They also dive into some of the best standup paddle boards based on people's interests and ability levels. And of course, as always, they have a grand old time doing it. So sit back, press play, and enjoy.Links from the Episode Find the right board for you. Take the quiz. Don't fall in. However, the downside is: you're going to overcome that uncomfortable phase real quick. You're going to acclimate to the board in less than a week. So don't overbuy to the extent that you're no longer having fun with the board once you acclimate to it.” – Corey Cooper, CEO and Co-Founder at BOTE
In this episode of the Beneath the Surface Podcast, Corey and Sean talk about the creation of their newest and most electrifying product (literally): the Power Rac. It's a new Rac option that started as just paddle board lights but quickly turned into something more. Paddle boarding at night is some of the most epic paddling out there but can be challenging without the right gear, especially when that gear doesn't really exist. After a wet and wild trip to the Everglades with a charged up Rover that didn't quite make the cut, Corey hatched a plan to add power to their boards by keeping it self contained in a Grab Rac. And thus, the Power Rac was born. Built specifically for the Rackham and Rover boards, the Power Rac consolidates electric power in a super simple control puck, so you can control your LED light, nav lights, accessory ports, and GPS fishfinder all from the same place. Listen up to find out how they came up with the idea and why it's going to be a game-changer in the SUP accessory world.Links from the EpisodeThe Power Rac, an powered up take on the Grab Rac.See how Corey and Sean survived the Everglades with their Rover's.The simplicity of our Rac Systems will have you elevating your board in no time.See what Yak-Power is all about. We wanted nav lights so you can paddle the Rover at night. 3.) We wanted to have accessory power. So whether it's powering a speaker or a phone or a bubbler like a Livewell, or GPS, a power port that can power, so you have all these options.” - Corey Cooper, BOTE CEO and Co-Founder

In the fifth installment of the Beneath the Surface Podcast, Corey and Sean bring Corey's more sensible half, Chief Operations Officer and BOTE Co-Founder, Magda Cooper, into the studio. Wife to Corey, mother to their three children, and the female founder to the BOTE brand, we dive deep with Magda to find out how she manages the juggling act while keeping her sweet demeanor… just kidding, she's actually the first one to drop f%!#* in the podcast (don't worry, it's bleeped).Like all startup stories, Magda and Corey had their moments of frustration, fear of failure, and dwindling bank accounts, but unlike all startup stories, they had each other. Their combined stubbornness and belief in the lifestyle pushed them to succeed. From lugging her newborn to their very first trade show through sleet and snow to coining the idea for the BOTE Inflatable Dock, a top seller in its product category, Magda views every day as an opportunity to get shit done and make a difference. As she puts it, there's no other choice than to succeed.LINKS FROM THE EPISODEDuring a recruiting trip, Magda learns Auburn University isn't in Georgia.Magda's nagging pays off and Florida Sportsman reviews BOTE.Paddle Guru gives you a running tally of paddle board races near you.Check out the simple yet badass BOTE Inflatable Dock in all its glory.Sean Murphy's ‘calmness' is captured in the video Murphy: Simmer Down.WHO'S IN THE EPISODELead Designer, Co-Founder, and CEO at BOTE, Corey Cooper is a licensed engineer hailing from Auburn University. Corey is the pioneer of the DarkRoom, assisting with the design of the machinery, concepting the layout and ultimately developing the workflow used in DarkRoom production. Magda's ability to juggle it all coupled with her ‘no quitting allowed' policy has been critical in the success of BOTE. Her belief in the product and eye for identifying market needs and trends has brought the public a quality line of lifestyle products that are second to none. When Magda isn't running the business or teaching her three children that good work ethic pays off, you'll find her finding time in her schedule to work out, likely on the water.Sean Murphy is the Director of Photography at BOTE and a world-renowned photographer based in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. Olympic gold medal winner Etienne Stott meets three inspiring women and hears about their paddling adventures. Jo Moseley calls herself a joy encourager, a mid-life adventurer and a beach cleaner. In August 2019 at the age of 54 she became the first woman to Stand Up Paddleboard coast to coast from Liverpool to Goole. She called it Paddleboard the North and raised money for two charities and picking up litter along the way.Jo's a single mum, empty-nester and this journey was a voyage of personal discovery. Jo wants women, especially of her age, to feel welcome on the water. She feels women can become disconnected from their bodies but she's proud that she lifted her board in and out of more than 90 locks on the canal to give her a confidence that spreads into everyday life. For 11 days she felt the most 'me' she'd ever been.Emma Kitchen returned to the water after going through a tough few years in her life and is back loving the white water. She really wants more women to get into paddlesport and wants to tell everyone why the water can be great for mental and physical health. She calls it escapism in a busy world. Emma used to go paddling with her dad and joined her local canoe club. But fell out of the sport for 19 years before returning a couple of years ago. She also goes SUP'ing and is setting up a community club in Castleford.Jo and Emma are both proud Women's Paddling Ambassadors for British Canoeing. And they're joined by Cadi Lambert, who leads the #ShePaddles programme for British Canoeing. For Cadi, it's much more than a job. It's a complete passion. She's driven to help other women to return to the water or try it for the first time - whether it's on a board, on a raft or in a canoe. And then helping women to get where they want to be in the sport such as becoming a coach or leader. The guests discus access, the environment and rubbish on the riverbanks. We hope you enjoy it!If you want more details on anything in the podcast or to find out about ShePaddles then here are some contacts:www.britishcanoeing.orgYou can find Jo Moseley on twitter @healthyhappy50@OneHappyRowerand at www.healthhappy50.comCadi can be contacted at cadi.lambert@britishcanoeing.org.uk

Every day of our life, we learn new useful skills. But the problem is, we don’t often think to use these skills in our day to day life. Recently Pauline was responsible for a huge SUP stuff up. She used her powers of persuasion for bad and convinced Rae not to buy a particular Stand Up Paddleboard she wanted. What happened next was a comedy of errors (mostly comedy at Pauline’s expense), as Pauline had to find a clever way to right the wrong, she’d stupidly committed. Listen in as Pauline and Rae share the story of the great SUP stuff up and what it taught them. (Oh, and why you should never say “What’s Up!” to Pauline.)

On April 1, 2018, Aaron Gonzales will launch “Paddle for Patriot PAWS” – a 400 plus mile Stand Up Paddleboard trip up the coast of Texas to raise awareness and money for Patriot PAWS Service Dogs. Patriot PAWS is a national 501(c)(3) non-profit based in Rockwall, TX, that trains and provides service dogs at no cost to disabled American veterans. Starting at Boca Chica Beach at the Texas-Mexico border, he will travel solo – without a support crew – paddling north until he reaches the Texas-Louisiana border at Port Arthur. His goal is to travel roughly 30 miles a day, camping on the beach as he goes along...Yes, beaches that are not strangers to coyotes, rattlesnakes and other predators. And, did we mention the 12 different sharks that are swimming in the Texas Gulf? Where did this idea come from? What sparked Aaron's zest for adventure and charity? And, why this event? He tells us his humbling story in this week's "I Could Never Do That." Follow along with Aaron Here: Website Instagram Patriot PAWS is an amazing organization with a passionate following of supporters. This week I interview Damon Newpher of Adventure Bound on the Fly, a guide service that specializes in fly fishing from all sorts of craft, including stand-up paddleboards. Damon uses his SUP to chase steelhead, bass, and even muskies in his western New York location, but has ranged as far away as Belize and the Yucatan with inflatable boards, and has even floated remote rivers and lakes in Chile from them. He advises us on why you would want one, what to look for, how to accessorize one, and how to navigate moving water. These craft offer great advantages because they can get into places no other craft can go, with more stealth than any other method. Plus you are up above the water so you can spot fish and subsurface structures easier. And of course an added benefit is that you’ll stay in great shape while you fish! In this week’s Fly Box, we cover, as usual, an eclectic range of things: · Why did my wife get skunked fishing a streamer while I was using two at once? · How to evaluate a fly rod in a shop · Pike fishing from shore · How do I fish emerger flies? · What is the perfect fly rod for tiny streams? · Should I buy a 10-foot 4-weight or 5-weight for tightline nymphing? · Are practice casting rods any good—other than just to torture cats? · And we have a new acronym, thanks to a listener: WINTER. Len from PA gives us great advice on how a fly fisher should spend the winter preparing for spring.

The word ‘inspirational' is an overused one…but you would be hard pressed to think of a more appropriate word to describe Charlie Howden. That's what we both felt after we spoke to him. Charlie made a huge impression on us. We were in awe of his larger than life personality and his courage and determination, which you can probably hear from our jaws dropping frequently in this episode. There aren't many families that have been untouched by cancer, most of us have lost people we love to that disease and Charlie was no exception. It was only when he was planning a SUP trip down the length of Costa Rica to raise money for the William Guy Forbeck Foundation, a cancer research charity, that he discovered that he was suffering from stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Pancreatic cancer is one of the most aggressive forms of the disease, but this British born, Fort Lauderdale resident had the treatment and against all the odds responded to it and was in remission, before he was told that it had come back. Charlie Howden was receiving treatment including chemo, however, he decided that ‘come hell or high water' he would still make the trip and raise money for the foundation by travelling the length of the Costa Rican Coast by stand up paddleboard. So on the 17th May 15 that's exactly what he did. Supported by his fiance, family and friends, he covered the distance over a period of two weeks, with time freed up by combining his week of recovery time from chemo, with an additional doctor sanctioned week's holiday from his treatment. --- The aim of his trip was to raise money for cancer research Rest in peace Charlie.
