Steelers insider Mark Kaboly comes on this hour to address the latest sports news with Adam Crowley and Dorin Dickerson. May 5, 2025, 9:00 Hour
Steelers correspondent Mark Kaboly from The Pat McAfee Show joined the show. Where does Mark zero-out on Mike Tomlin entering his 19th season? Mark applauded the Steelers a bit for ‘rebuilding' seasons still netting them 8 to 9 wins per season. Mark thinks the next couple of years have to lead to ‘significant' runs. Mark thinks Art Rooney is a future HOFer and would be the deciding factor in ending things with Tomlin down the road, not Tomlin making the choice himself. Mark said Rooney has been a major factor in pushing the Steelers to a more digital age. Chris and Mark talked about some of the lack of on-field evolution from Tomlin and the Steelers in recent years. More w/ Mark – Mark defended his stance on why he thinks Art Rooney II will eventually be a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The draft became the discussion point and what the Steelers did following the Derrick Harmon selection. How much different will Kaleb Johnson be in the backfield opposed to Najee Harris? Mark mentioned something Arthur Smith said about Najee last week. Chris asked Mark about the Steelers going with an edge rusher in Jack Sawyer in the 4th round. Was Shedeur Sanders on the Steelers draft board, or was he on it at all? Mark wants people to slow the roll with Will Howard becoming a star. At pick 185, it's fine if Howard is a long-term backup that doesn't get a ton of snaps during the offseason. More w/ Mark – Power Rankings.
Joe and Austin both had riveting nights of TV viewing last night. Joe Joe applauds Kyle Dubas for moving on from Mike Sullivan. He thinks it was Dubas' move, not Fenway Sports Group, to move on from Sullivan. Why is Art Rooney II so afraid to move off Mike Tomlin after the Baltimore game?
Hour 1 with Joe Starkey: Joe applauds Kyle Dubas for moving on from Mike Sullivan. He thinks it was Dubas' move, not Fenway Sports Group, to move on from Sullivan. Why is Art Rooney II so afraid to move off Mike Tomlin after the Baltimore game? The Pirates had a play similar to their past mistakes on the bases.

Aditi said on CBS Sports Network before the draft that Mike Tomlin likes Shedeur Sanders, but it wouldn't be that surprising to see Art Rooney II step in and take a DT. Derrick Harmon's mom is on life support and in the hospital and he said what his mom means to me and that he was going to tell her that he was drafted that night. A really special moment.

The Post-Gazette's Adam Bittner and Jason Mackey react to the week in Pittsburgh sports news. What should we make of comments from Steelers owner Art Rooney II, coach Mike Tomlin and GM Omar Khan about their pursuit of Aaron Rodgers? Is it wise for the Steelers to look toward the 2026 NFL draft for their QB of the future, given the many compensatory picks they'll have at their disposal to try to trade up? Are options beyond Arch Manning compelling? Or are Drew Allar, Nico Iamaleava, LaNorris Sellers and Garrett Nussmeier similar to this year's crop, which includes names like Shedeur Sanders, Jaxson Dart and Will Howard? Are Jeff Capel and Pitt basketball in trouble after Jaland Lowe and Jorge and Guillermo Diaz-Graham entered the transfer portal? Or can they draw hope from quick and major turnarounds from Final Four programs like Auburn and Houston? How closely should we be watching new Penguins faces including Ville Koivunen and Rutger McGroarty? And in the third segment, airing on the Post-Gazette's Pirates YouTube channel, our duo offers thoughts on the club's ugly start to the season. Are GM Ben Cherington and manager Derek Shelton caught between what's best for the club's long-term future and what's best for retaining their jobs short-term in some of their roster decisions involving names like Carmen Mlodzinski and Thomas Harrington? What is the deal with the six-man rotation? Shouldn't we want to see more — rather than less — of Paul Skenes and Mitch Keller? Whose slow offensive start should we be most worried about? Tommy Pham, Jack Suwinski, Ke'Bryan Hayes, or someone else? And how frosty will the home opening reception be against the New York Yankees on Friday at PNC Park?
What Yinz Talkin' Bout is the conversation about the Pittsburgh Steelers social media conversation, exposing all the week's hot and toxic takes. This week, Steelers Nation received a sign from the west: It was the game of catch seen 'round the 3 Rivers! Now everyone seems to know Aaron Rodgers is coming to Pittsburgh.... except Art Rooney II.Hosted by Kyle Chrise
April 2, 2025 - Season 15, Episode 114 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Wednesday morning episode, Alex Kozora and I get right to discussing what all Pittsburgh Steelers team president Art Rooney II had to say on Tuesday during his media session at the NFL's owners' meetings in Florida. Rooney talked about where things currently sit with the team's pursuit of free agent QB Aaron Rodgers, the recent rule proposals that were voted on, and how he feels the team has done in free agency to date. We discuss several of those topics he commented on and more. The NFL's official records will finally incorporate All-America Football Conference statistics moving forward so Alex and I briefly discuss that bit of news to come out on Tuesday. Will the Steelers do anything with K Chris Boswell this offseason when it comes to his 2025 contract year? Alex and I attempt to answer that question and what things the Steelers might do should they decide to give Boswell more money in 2025. With the 2025 NFL Draft taking place later this month, Alex and I start to have more nuanced talks about the position groups. During this Wednesday show, Alex and I discuss the 2025 wide receiver draft class as it relates to the more prominent players. Moving on, we talk about where the Steelers might select a wide receiver in this year's draft, the type of wide receiver they might draft, and much more. We also discuss a few more wide receivers in this year's draft class we will be efforting to learn more about this next week. Later in this episode, Alex and I numerically rate the need at every position when it comes to the Steelers and the 2025 NFL Draft. It's a fun little exercise overall. This 135-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted in the recap as well. We end this show by answering several emails we have received from listeners. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
The NFL league meetings in Florida provide an opportunity for fans of the Pittsburgh Steelers to hear from the team "brass" in the offseason. With Mike Tomlin, Omar Khan and even Art Rooney II speaking with media, what can we glean from these answers? Should fans even listen?! On the Wednesday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by Edgar Snyder & Associates, Post-Gazette Steelers insiders Christopher Carter and Ray Fittipaldo react to owner Art Rooney II's comments about the team's pursuit of QB Aaron Rodgers via NFL free agency. Is Rodgers now on the clock to make a decision before the NFL draft? How much will his decision factor into the calls coach Mike Tomlin and GM Omar Khan make about who to select in the draft? And what will the consequences be in terms of perception if Rodgers decides not to sign, leaving the Steelers with either Mason Rudolph or other free agents including Drew Lock, Joe Flacco and Carson Wentz as their QB options for 2025? Our duo tackles those topics, then gets into Ray's latest seven-round NFL mock draft. Why does he like Kenneth Grant from Michigan as the team's first-round pick? Could Louisville QB Tyler Shough make sense as a potential backup or even starter of the future? And why is Ray looking at names including Oklahoma State RB Ollie Gordon, Indiana DL CJ West, Florida WR Chimere Dike and Wisconsin OT Jack Nelson in later rounds? Then in the third segment, Chris and Ray weigh NFL rule changes that were and were not approved at the owners meetings this week.
Art Rooney II said the Steelers feel good about Aaron Rodgers and Rodgers signing. Ben Roethlisberger has his own thoughts on signing Aaron Rodgers on his podcast. Penn State men's hockey forward and Pittsburgh native Matt DiMarsico joined the show. DiMarsico is from Wexford, played for Pens Elite, and scored the game-winning goal to send Penn State hockey to its first Frozen Four.

We give our opinions and what we are hearing from various insider reports. Post-Gazette sports columnist Paul Zeise reacts to the day in Pittsburgh sports news live around 5 p.m. Eastern. What should we make of Steelers owner Art Rooney II telling reporters Tuesday he feels "pretty good" about the team signing Aaron Rodgers to be its starting quarterback? How long should Rooney, general manager Omar Khan and coach Mike Tomlin wait before moving on from Rodgers, either for internal candidate Mason Rudolph or external options like Joe Flacco, Drew Lock and Carson Wentz? And what does Paul think of some of the rule changes Rooney is voting for at the NFL owners meeting? Paul tackles those topics; the demotion of the Pirates' David Bednar to the minor leagues; and news that star guard Jaland Lowe will be transferring from Pitt basketball after Jeff Capel once again failed to get the Panthers into March Madness.
Alan Saunders and Zachary Smith discuss all things Pittsburgh Steelers. On today's episode, we discuss Art Rooney II showing a ton of confidence in the team's ability to sign Aaron Rodgers. We also touch on if we think Mike Tomlin will have to mediate between he and Arthur Smith, should he sign, how it could impact how they approach QB in the 2025 NFL Draft and more. Is a trade down possible for the Steelers given their lack of draft capital? How do NFL Owners Meetings work? Are deals discussed during this period? Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's the latest from NFL owners meetings about the NFL rule changes from team president Art Rooney II. The Steelers measure to introduce a phone or video call component to the free agent contact period passed, as did a number of other measures, including kickoff changes to move touchbacks to the 35-yard-line, and more. Meanwhile, measures to strip home playoff games and to reduce the penalties for defensive holding and illegal contact were defeated, and a measure to ban the tush push was tabled. Alan breaks it down. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Hour 3 with Joe Starkey: Art Rooney II said he's not going to wait forever for Aaron Rodgers, but is going to wait "not forever, but a little while longer." Joe doesn't think Rodgers moves the needle more than Justin Fields or Russell Wilson. Gerry Dulac said in his chat you can rule out a quarterback in the first round for the Steelers. Will the 2026 quarterback class seriously be better? Just because the draft is in Pittsburgh, Joe doesn't think that should be the reason they draft a guy.
Hour 2 with Joe Starkey: Are the Yankees violating the spirit of the game with the new torpedo bats? The league is split on banning the tush push. Should the Pirates incorporate the torpedo bat? One fan thinks Major League Baseball loves the torpedo bats to drive offense. Art Rooney II told Gerry Dulac and members of the media that it is "pointing in that direction" the Steelers will sign Aaron Rodgers.

On the Friday episode of the North Shore Drive, presented by Edgar Snyder & Associates, Post-Gazette Steelers insiders Christopher Carter and Brian Batko react to a report from colleague Gerry Dulac that Aaron Rodgers is meeting with top brass including coach Mike Tomlin, GM Omar Khan and owner Art Rooney II at the team's facility. Is a deal with the free agent QB imminent? Could he still take his time and ponder his options some more? And what could his potential move to Pittsburgh mean for the rest of the QB market, including names Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston, Joe Flacco and others? Our duo tackles those questions and more, including: How could this year's NFL draft QB class of names like Shedeur Sanders, Jaxson Dart, Will Howard, Jalen Milroe and the others fit into the team's future? And what should we make of Najee Harris' criticism of the Steelers since signing with the Los Angeles Chargers last week?
On the Friday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by Edgar Snyder & Associates, host Adam Bittner welcomes Post-Gazette Steelers insider Brian Batko to analyze conflicting reports about the team's QB situation. Is the front office divided on the QB question like it was in 2021 over Ben Roethlisberger's final season? Is tension between decision makers like owner Art Rooney II, coach Mike Tomlin, GM Omar Khan and OC Arthur Smith healthy? And what does it mean for 2025 options including Russell Wilson, Justin Fields, Aaron Rodgers and Matthew Stafford? In the second segment, our duo surveys the NFL trade market amid numerous requests for deals from players. Could the Steelers make a move for names like Stafford, Cooper Kupp, Deebo Samuel, Jonathan Allen, Jaire Alexander and Davon Godchaux? Or should they be preserving their draft capital and spending in NFL free agency before giving up assets in a trade? Then later, Adam and Brian ponder how meaningful the team's meetings at the NFL combine may or may not be. Are they actually interested in off-the-radar names like Penn State's Tyler Warren? Or was their meeting with him a simple matter of networking at a big league event?
Post-Gazette sports columnist Jason Mackey joins host Adam Bittner to analyze discontent in the Steelers fan base over coach Mike Tomlin, owner Art Rooney II and the franchise's recent drought of NFL playoff wins. Do any moves GM Omar Khan could make this offseason matter as long as Tomlin is the coach and Rooney is the owner? Or will the franchise be doomed until big changes are made? And if there's hope, what moves could Khan make in NFL free agency, the NFL draft or the trade market to improve the mood of the fan base? Is it a splash at quarterback with options including Russell Wilson, Justin Fields, Matthew Stafford and Aaron Rodgers? A move for a big-time receiver opposite George Pickens? A new anchor for the defensive line? Or a proven cornerback opposite Joey Porter Jr.? Our duo ponders those questions, then pivots to Penguins. What's the most disappointing piece of their performance coming out of the break for the 4 Nations Face-off? Is it the goaltending with Joel Blomqvist and Alex Nedeljkovic? Struggling defensemen like Erik Karlsson? Or simply the effort level surrounding stars like Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang? Then in the third segment, airing on the new PG Pirates YouTube channel, Adam and Jason toss around some Pirates topics. Would it make sense to sign free agent first baseman Anthony Rizzo, given the team's need at that position following the Spencer Horwitz injury? Or is Rizzo and other free agent options like Jose Abreu or Yuli Gurriel too far past their prime? What does Jason think of the Andrew Heaney signing? And what does it mean for the depth of the rotation? Could the Pirates get creative to try to limit innings for Paul Skenes, Jared Jones and Mitch Keller?
February 26, 2025 - Season 15, Episode 97 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Wednesday morning episode, Alex Kozora and I get right to discussing all that Pittsburgh Steelers GM Omar Khan had to see during his numerous interviews that took place on Tuesday at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine. Khan was asked to answer several questions concerning various topics on Tuesday, so Alex and I pour over the most important responses he gave. We discuss Khan's responses to the quarterback situation, WR George Pickens moving forward, a possible contract extension for OLB T.J. Watt as well as the current health of several players. We also talk about the Steelers' expected free agency plans based on what Khan said Tuesday. T Broderick Jones playing left tackle in 2025 is also discussed. After spending a lot of time on Khan's Tuesday media rounds, Alex and I discuss the possibility of the Steelers adding a prominent offensive lineman in free agency this offseason based off of a Tuesday report on a podcast by Brian Baldinger of the NFL Network. The NFLPA release their annual NFL Team Report Cards on Tuesday midway through our Wednesday show, so Alex and I go over where the Steelers rank in the various categories. We spend a lot of time discussing Steelers owner Art Rooney II ranking 29th overall in the Ownership category of the NFLPA report card. Post-Gazette sports columnist Paul Zeise reacts to the day in Pittsburgh sports news live around 5 p.m. Eastern. Why did the Steelers get low marks in an NFL Players' Association survey for the third year in a row? What were the complaints about owner Art Rooney II and team facilities? And what should we make of coach Mike Tomlin earning the team's only "A" grade in the survey? Paul tackles those questions, then pivots to goings on at the NFL combine in Indianapolis. What's the latest on the quarterback situation and possibilities including Russell Wilson, Justin Fields, Aaron Rodgers, Matthew Stafford and Daniel Jones? Are any defensive tackle prospects such as Michigan's Kenneth Grant and Mississippi's Walter Nolen standing out? Could Jaire Alexander be a free agent defensive back fit, as suggested by CBS Sports' Cody Benjamin? And who are some of the players Paul is most curious to watch this week?
NFLPA grades are here! Art Rooney II received a D, while Mike Tomlin earned an A. The strength coaches received a C-, worse in the league. What do we make of the grades?
Art Rooney II has been ranked in the bottom five among NFL owners, behind some truly crappy franchises and people. Not good. The Steelers ownership came in at 28th and a big defense behind it was Rooney's lack of spending in facilities. Players in the past raved about Dan Rooney and his impact, but the same can't be said about Art. More talk about Art Rooney and the Steelers' facilities being among the worst in the NFL. Donny thinks the Steelers locker room is closer to the one he had in high school than the Steelers are to an upper echelon facility in the league. An interesting comparison made to Kenny Pickett. There could be a Steelers return this offseason as it sounds like the team has interest in Javon Hargrave. Mike Florio from Pro Football Talk joined the show. Mike reacted to Art Rooney getting 28th out of 32 owners around the league, according to the players. Mike isn't sure how important these surveys are because you can't fire an owner, but it is a way to get under their skin a little bit. Mike doesn't think teams that finish in the bottom tier of teams in these rankings should just ignore it. Mike was hesitant to say if the Steelers are a serious player in the running for Matt Stafford. Will they be stopped, yet again, by Tom Brady? Mike thinks there is some fishy stuff with that development.

Gerry Dulac is reporting that the Steelers are split between keeping Russell Wilson or Justin Fields. What is the relationship like between Art Rooney II and Wilson? Is that the reason why they are still split on the two quarterbacks?
Derrick Bell and Zachary Smith discuss all things Pittsburgh Steelers. On today's episode, we discuss if there are QB pairings to be had for the Steelers via free agency and the NFL Draft, if a Matthew Stafford trade is feasible and if it would move the needle for the team, the appeal in a Kirk Cousins move, if Art Rooney II's preference is Russell Wilson and the idea of acquiring Deebo Samuel. In this Friday morning episode, Alex Kozora and I get right to discussing some news items concerning the Pittsburgh Steelers that have come about since our Wednesday show. Steelers team president Art Rooney II recently gave a few more media interviews since our last show so Alex and I go over everything notable from those. Several of Rooney's recent comments raised our eyes and we explain why. We discuss the state of the Steelers right now as it relates to things Rooney said recently. We also discuss if and how things have changed since Art Rooney II took over for Dan Rooney. Alex and I discuss Steelers HC Mike Tomlin quite a bit in this show as it relates to his recent past and future. We also both ranked Tomlin as it relates to the current head coaches in the NFL as part of that discussion. Former Steelers GM Kevin Colbert is back in the news this week and we explain why that is. We also briefly discuss the annual Pro Bowl Games now being underway. Alex and I make sure to carve out some time in this show to discuss a few prospects from the 2025 NFL Draft class. We also go over the probability of the team double-dipping at the defensive line position in this year's draft and whether they will seriously consider a mid-round quarterback. In this Wednesday morning episode, Alex Kozora and I get right to discussing the Pittsburgh Steelers having two more players, G Isaac Seumalo and QB Russell Wilson, added to the annual Pro Bowl Games this week as alternates. We discuss whether being added as a Pro Bowl alternate should count for anything when it comes to a player's career resume. Steelers team president Art Rooney II is making his annul media rounds this week to give his thoughts on the 2024 season as well as the future of the organization moving into the 2025 season. As usual, Rooney gave us quite a few talking points to parse. Alex and I go over what Rooney had to say about the quarterback position heading into the offseason. Is QB Justin Fields the apple of Rooney's eye this offseason? What about the possibility of the Steelers drafting a quarterback this year? We discuss everything related to that position based on comments Rooney recently made. We also discuss the positional needs for the offseason that Rooney hit on as well as his thoughts on his continued trust in HC Mike Tomlin. Rooney also discussed the size of the coaching staff, potential changes to the staff and how he thought OC Arthur Smith did in his first season in Pittsburgh. Rooney made it sound like OLB T.J. Watt will be extended this offseason, so we discuss that topic. We also discuss what Rooney said about WR George Pickens moving forward. We also go over it sounding like RB Najee Harris won't be back in 2025 and if the Steelers would dare think about drafting another running back in the first round again. We go over Rooney saying the team really didn't learn anything from the drafting and subsequently failing of QB Kenny Pickett now that he's gone from the organization. Alex and I make sure to try to hit on everything relevant that Rooney said these last two days and most of this episode is dedicated to his media sessions this week.
