Mike Florio from Pro Football Talk joined the show. Mike said something just feels different this time with the Steelers in regards to Mike Tomlin being back next season. He referenced the times changing a bit and them going about their business differently the last few years in the off-season. Mike said the Steelers are stuck in a rut with a lot of people making a lot of money. Mike thinks Art Rooney II will sit back on this until he starts noticing more and more empty seats in the stadium because that means dollars lost. He said if he was a season-ticket holder, he would not attend the next home game (MNF 12/15 vs MIA) if they lose in an ugly way to the Ravens on Sunday. Mike thinks it's a complicated reality with coaches thinking about the greener pastures that could be out there. Could Mike see Penn State making a play for Tomlin? Mike talked about the current cycle of coaches in the NFL and another reason why Tomlin might be the hottest candidate out there if he and the Steelers move on. Mike said we don't know for sure that the Giants are interested, but there is some dot-connecting being done.
Jeff Brohm is the latest college football coach to stay put instead of going to Happy Valley to become the HC at Penn State. Something else Ben Roethlisberger suggested was Mike Tomlin going to Penn State. After Tomlin was asked about coaching at the college level a few years ago, we can say pretty confidently that this won't happen. Would Tomlin want to do everything that is required to be a college coach? The guys questioned if Tomlin would be as good at recruiting as everyone assumes. James Franklin happily trolled Penn State on X after pulling in a pretty good first recruiting class at Virginia Tech. We are enjoying the fall from grace in real time from State College. In how many years with Ben Roethlisberger did Mike Tomlin make a ‘deep' run in the playoffs? Mike Florio from Pro Football Talk joined the show. What are their chances in a crucial AFC North Week 14 battle with the Baltimore Ravens this week. Will T.J. Watt, Cam Heyward, Jalen Ramsey, Joey Porter Jr. and the defense have answers for Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry? Or will they struggle against the run like they did against Josh Allen, James Cook at the Bills? What is Mike Tomlin's future as coach if this collapse continues? Could his job be in any serious jeopardy? Or will manager Art Rooney II and GM Omar Khan continue to stand by him? What has Ed observed from Aaron Rodgers, Jaylen Warren, DK Metcalf and the offense? If we were the owner of the Steelers – if we were Art Rooney II, would we fire Mike Tomlin at the end of the season? Assuming the train is set for the same destination as the last near-decade, we all said Yes. Mike said today that he doesn't care where good ideas come from, but then why are the assistant coaches so poor? The guys went through some of the assistants and coordinators over the years under Tomlin. How many of those names would we give a passing grade to?

People are having a tough time remembering what Bill Cowher was able to accomplish with pretty lackluster QBs. And don't look now because things in the 1980's weren't as bad as they are now as Steelers fans. Tomlin Tidbit – Why aren't the Steelers using Pat Freiermuth in the offense? The numbers tell you that they should.
The fire Tomlin chants don't surprise us. Joe thinks Art Rooney II is the larger problem. Mike Tomlin talks about road venues as hostile environments, the Steelers OWN STADIUM has become a hostile environment against them. Joe says, maybe it wasn't Matt Canada.

There is a conspiracy theory floating around that Art Rooney II ‘blocked' any trade the Steelers could have made to save draft picks for next April when the event takes place in Pittsburgh. The Steelers are projected to have up to 12 selections that weekend and the owner may feel like holding onto the capital is the best move. Do we think there is anything to this? Former MLB pitcher Matt Clement joined the show. Matt came hot out of the gate talking Pirates free agency, saying his first call would be to JT Realmuto and that they should offer him a 3-year deal. Matt didn't put any blame on Isiah Kiner-Falefa for his baserunning gaffe in Game 7. He added thoughts on some of the other events in the game. How much did he enjoy the final game of the season? Mike Florio from Pro Football Talk joined the show. Mike said the Steelers should throw away the ugly throwbacks they wore on Sunday Night Football. The guys had Mike react to the trade deadline and the lack of moves from the Steelers yesterday for players like Jakobi Meyers or Rashid Shaheed. Mike doesn't buy into the conspiracy theory that Art Rooney II prevented the front office from making moves. What does he think of Marquez Valdes-Scantling, who will stand as the Steelers lone WR move? Mike was surprised they didn't acquire Allen Lazard since the Jets were undergoing a fire sale. Mike doesn't think there should be regret in dealing George Pickens even if they failed to fill that WR2 void. Mike isn't ready to consider the Steelers a serious contender – he said their season comes down to fending off the Ravens. Poni threw out a few QBs that could be available for the Steelers in 2026 if Aaron Rodgers retires after the season. Mike believes Kyler Murray will be available and will possibly get cut by the Cardinals before we enter the offseason. Mike described the YouTube TV feud with Disney/ESPN as ‘unfortunate' because it continues to make things more difficult for the consumer. Mike said if they ‘gave a crap' about the customers, they would resolve this before they do anything else, but there is too much ego coming from the top. Mike said the NFL is powerful enough that they can settle this problem if they really wanted to – saying it's ‘curious' that the league is standing on the sidelines here.

Adam Crowley and Jason Mackey wonder what would have to happen this season for the Steelers to finally make some serious changes.
In this hour, Adam Crowley and Jason Mackey search for anyone who can come up with a reasonable argument in support of Steelers' head coach Mike Tomlin. Also, is Steelers' owner Art Rooney II becoming complacent with the state of the team? And will RB Kaleb Johnson ever return kicks for the Steelers again? September 17, 2025, 7:00 Hour

August 29, 2025 - Season 16, Episode 17 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Friday morning show, which was recorded late Thursday night, Alex Kozora and I get right to discussing the Dallas Cowboys trading LB Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers earlier in the day. We go over several things related to the Pittsburgh Steelers as a result of Parsons being traded to the Packers and how the Cowboys managed the situation and negotiations with the player. Alex and I discuss the differences between Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and Steelers president Art Rooney II when it comes to how often each meets with the media. Alex and I also discuss how Parsons' agent is the same one that Cowboys WR George Pickens has. After discussing Parsons being traded, Alex and I discuss WR Marquez Valdes-Scantlingchoosing to sign with the San Francisco 49ers as a member of their practice squad following Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers reportedly recruiting him to sign with Pittsburgh. We discuss the possibility of Valdes-Scantling staying with the 49ers all season and whether there is still a chance he could wind up with the Steelers at some point in 2025. The Steelers have now established their initial practice squad for 2025, so Alex and I discuss the 17 players that have now been signed to that unit. We go over each player and how unusual it is for all 17 to come from the final 91-man roster. We also discuss the additional transactions the Steelers made on Thursday that included two players, S Chuck Clark and G Max Scharping, being signed to the 53-man roster, and two other players, QB Will Howard and CB Donte Kent, being placed on the Reserve/Injured list. Did the Steelers stunt the initial growth of Howard by placing him on the Reserve/Injured list to start the 2025 season? Will Howard stay on that list all season? Alex and I attempt to answer those two questions during this episode. Alex and I discuss the Steelers offensive line and wide receiver depth as the team gets ready for their Week 1 road game against the New York Jets. We also discuss a few possible roster elevations that might take place a week from Saturday. This 67-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted in the recap and we make sure to answer a few email questions we received from listeners of the show. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. Hour 2 with Joe Starkey: Cam Heyward started practicing at the start of camp, but now is holding in and hasn't practiced. The timing of this is strange. If Cam Heyward gets what he wants, will others go into Art Rooney II's office and ask for more money off a great season? Austin went to Cooperstown and the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame this week during his trip to Vermont. Austin saw the bat from Roberto Clemente's 3,000th hit, Willie Stargell's jersey, and more.

We go over the corresponding moves to those new signings and also discuss how a few more transactions might be on the way ahead of Saturday night. On Thursday, Steelers DT Cameron Heyward and K Chris Boswell both dominated the team's headlines due to their contract situations ahead of the 2025 regular season getting underway. Alex and I spend a lot of time in this show discussing why this contract news with both Heyward and Boswell has surfaced at this point of the offseason and what the options are for potentially appeasing both players. We talk about what could and likely will happen with both Heyward and Boswell prior to the regular season starting and how both players could still potentially be back in the same place a year from now when it comes to each's 2026 earnings. We make sure to discuss the pushbacks that a lot of fans seem to have when it comes to both players and specifically when it comes to Heyward. Steelers HC Mike Tomlin met with the media on Thursday to discuss the upcoming preseason game on Saturday night against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Alex and I go over the extensive list of players that Tomlin said won't play Saturday night and why. We also go over a few things that Tomlin had to say on Thursday about a few younger Steelers players such RB Kaleb Johnson, WR Roman Wilson, and ILB Payton Wilson. Alex and I then preview the Saturday night road preseason game against the Jaguars when it comes to all three phases. We discuss the likely staring units, playing time and even attempt to take a stab at the quarterback rotation used and playing time. We make sure to go over some of the key things we'll both be looking for against the Jaguars. Later in this show, Alex and I discuss what Steelers president Art Rooney II recently said about the team's travel plans for the Week 4 road game in Dublin, Ireland against the Minnesota Vikings. This 103-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted in the recap, and we make sure to answer a few listener questions at the very end. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. Today, it's whether the team will be looking for a new stadium when their least expires after the 2030 season. On the Monday edition of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by Edgar Snyder & Associates, Post-Gazette Steelers insiders Christopher Carter and Ray Fittipaldo ponder coach Mike Tomlin's future with Aaron Rodgers now in the fold at QB. Does he have the institutional support from owner Art Rooney II and GM Omar Khan to coach past this season, regardless of what happens with Rodgers? Or could follow names like Mike McCarthy of the Green Bay Packers and Robert Salah of the New York Jets in being fired for to reach expectations with the future Hall of Fame QB at the helm? Later, the guys analyze the team's situation at receiver following minicamp. Are Roman Wilson and Calvin Austin III showing signs that they can be productive behind DK Metcalf on the depth chart? Or should the team still consider signing veterans like Keenan Allen, Gabe Davis and/or Amari Cooper? Then in the third segment, Chris and Ray explain how special teams coach Danny Smith is approaching the NFL's ever-changing kickoff rules.
Hall of Fame quarterback Terry Bradshaw thinks this is embarrassing what is going on between the Steelers and Aaron Rodgers. He thinks Rodgers should go back to California and chew on bark. May 23, 2025 - Season 15, Episode 137 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Friday morning episode, Alex Kozora and I get right into talking about the latest news concerning the Pittsburgh Steelers and that includes the team signing rookie DT Derrick Harmon, the team's first round draft selection this year, to his rookie contract. Alex and I discuss the Steelers signing G Nick Broeker this week and the signing bonuses the team gave to their 10 undrafted free agents as well. Steelers president Art Rooney II recently made a small comment about the team waiting a little longer to get a decision from veteran free agent QB Aaron Rodgers, so we make sure to parse that. We also discuss a little quote from Rodgers during a recent long interview he had with Joe Rogan. Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay passed away a few days ago so we pay our respects to him during this show. The Tush Push is now staying around for at least one more season, so Alex and I discuss that news and the league's recent vote on possibly banning it. We discuss how that play impacts the Steelers moving forward into 2025 and if they should practice it and utilize it more. With Harmon now signed, I pass along a Steelers 2025 salary update and what it might mean for the team moving forward into the offseason. Alex and I also have an extraordinarily long discussion about where the Steelers now sit currently from a cash spending perspective for 2025. We talk about how the team should be expected to spend around $40 million more in cash this offseason and why. Alex and I also talk about how the Steelers have drafted as of late and the impact that has on their cash spending for this three-year phase, which ends in 2026. Post-Gazette sports columnist Paul Zeise reacts to the day in Pittsburgh sports news live around 5 p.m. Eastern. What should we make of Steelers owner Art Rooney II saying he's willing to wait a "little while longer" on Aaron Rodgers at QB following the NFL owners meetings? Did Rodgers add any context to his delay in making a decision in his appearance on Joe Rogan's podcast? And what is a reasonable timeline for signing with OTAs and minicamp fast approaching? And Mason Rudolph and Will Howard poised to get top reps? Paul tackles those questions and looks ahead to the Pirates' four-game series with the Milwaukee Brewers.
Art Rooney II says a ‘little bit longer' for Aaron Rodgers. We don't think he has any clue when Rodgers is showing up or signing that contract. Are the Steelers prepared for everything that comes along with Rodgers? Is it continuing to make them look desperate? In this Thursday morning episode, Alex Kozora and I get right into recapping the Pittsburgh Steelers 2025 season schedule that was made official on Wednesday night. We go over the team's preseason schedule and then follow that up with a deep dive of their regular season schedule by game. Alex and I go over the early string of quarterbacks the Steelers will face in their first five games and the defensive mindedness of each of those first five opponents as well. The Steelers will close their 2025 regular season with a tough stretch of six games, so we compare that final gauntlet to the one the team had in 2024. Steelers team president Art Rooney II commented on the team's schedule after it was released on Wednesday, so we recap what all he had to say concerning that topic. We also discuss Rooney saying the team will have a new throwback jersey in 2025 in addition to a new helmet for at least one game. After wrapping up some concluding thoughts on the Steelers' 2025 schedule, we talk briefly about what the team's travel schedule to Ireland in Week Four might look like. In this Wednesday morning episode, Alex Kozora and I get right to discussing the Pittsburgh Steelers having two more players, G Isaac Seumalo and QB Russell Wilson, added to the annual Pro Bowl Games this week as alternates. We discuss whether being added as a Pro Bowl alternate should count for anything when it comes to a player's career resume. Steelers team president Art Rooney II is making his annul media rounds this week to give his thoughts on the 2024 season as well as the future of the organization moving into the 2025 season. As usual, Rooney gave us quite a few talking points to parse. Alex and I go over what Rooney had to say about the quarterback position heading into the offseason. Is QB Justin Fields the apple of Rooney's eye this offseason? What about the possibility of the Steelers drafting a quarterback this year? We discuss everything related to that position based on comments Rooney recently made. We also discuss the positional needs for the offseason that Rooney hit on as well as his thoughts on his continued trust in HC Mike Tomlin. Rooney also discussed the size of the coaching staff, potential changes to the staff and how he thought OC Arthur Smith did in his first season in Pittsburgh. Rooney made it sound like OLB T.J. Watt will be extended this offseason, so we discuss that topic. We also discuss what Rooney said about WR George Pickens moving forward. We also go over it sounding like RB Najee Harris won't be back in 2025 and if the Steelers would dare think about drafting another running back in the first round again. We go over Rooney saying the team really didn't learn anything from the drafting and subsequently failing of QB Kenny Pickett now that he's gone from the organization. Alex and I make sure to try to hit on everything relevant that Rooney said these last two days and most of this episode is dedicated to his media sessions this week.
