Another season of Jets Football begins on Sunday, and when you look at the Jets 22 starters, the most surprising name on that list may be their rookie 6th round linebacker out of Florida State, Hamsah Nasirildeen. Our guest on today's pod (0:26), is Max Moody, one of the Hosts of the “Locked on Seminoles” Podcast. Max is a diehard Florida State Seminoles fan who watches their games closer than anyone, and he is going to tell you why he feels that Hamsah Nasirildeen was the steal of the 2021 draft, and is going to be a star for the Jets (11:45). Max also tells us why former FSU star and current Jet starter Lamarcus Joyner may turn it around this year, as well as give his insight on the bevy of young players he watched in the ACC that are now New York Jets. At the top of the pod, we put Max in the Tortured Fan Corner, and at the end of the pod we make our Week 1 NFL Picks (38:47). We had a great time discussing Hamsah Nasirildeen and some of the other young talent on the Jets, this is a pod that will definitely get you excited for the Jets season beginning Sunday. UNC coach Roy Williams retires; Bill Self gets lifetime contract with Kansas; The Jets traded Sam Darnold to Panthers for three picks; Yankees opening week and the Mets being the Mets in their first game of the season + what it was like going to a ball game during COVID.
Opening Day has come and gone, and the Bronx Bombers have begun the season led by the half of their team that was supposed to be more of a question mark — their pitching staff. Although an up-and-down offense has allowed them to drop two games early on, the men on the mound have permitted just 11 runs in 5 games. Not too shabby. This podcast was recorded prior to Gerrit Cole’s dominant start against Baltimore on Tuesday night, but thanks to his Opening Day outing and other strong efforts from Jordan Montgomery and the middle relievers, there was still plenty of pitching to chat about. Clint Frazier and Gary Sánchez’s hot starts were also points of discussion, as were home run heroics from Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge. The rest of the hitters could stand to wake up a bit, though. Later, we talked about how Yankee Stadium fans should really cut down on the booing, the alternate site in Scranton starting up again, mid-’80s reliever Mike Armstrong (please view his glorious picture), and Rougned Odor for a hot second because the surprise trade broke minutes prior to recording. Naturally, we ended with the Yankee and Mitre of the Week. As Kunj alluded, it’s good to have baseball back (and to watch a giant lizard fight a giant ape). Learn more about your ad choices.
