Do the Steelers still need a No. 2 receiver? Joe thinks the Steelers could manage with the guys they currently have, plus Pat Freiermuth stepping up. Austin thinks a No. 2 receiver is a must.
Hour 3 with Joe Starkey: Bryan De La Cruz has been a disappointment. John is not 100% sure if Ben Cherington and Derek Shelton will be back. Ben Roethlisberger and Maurkice Pouncey both said on the Footbahlin podcast that the Steelers need a No. 2 receiver.
Ben and Spence welcome Steelers alum Maurkice Pouncey to the bar to breakdown the Steelers win over the Chargers in week 3. They cover the offensive's growth, rookie center Zach Frazier, and Justin Fields growth as QB1.
On the Monday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by Mike's Beer Bar, the Post-Gazette's Christopher Carter and Adam Bittner discuss Russell Wilson's role as a leader for the Steelers. Can he fill the void on offense left by Ben Roethlisberger, David DeCastro and Maurkice Pouncey? Can he help young players like Broderick Jones, Pat Freiermuth and others emerge as leaders in their own right? And can he silence some of the doubts about his leadership from his Denver days for legacy purposes? Our duo tackles those questions. Then later, Pirates insider Noah Hiles joins Christopher to talk about the Pirates at the MLB All-Star break. How will Bryan Reynolds and Paul Skenes look in the Midsummer Classic on Tuesday? And how did the team's sweep of the Chicago White Sox over the weekend set them up for the second half?

Locked On Steelers – Daily Podcast On The Pittsburgh Steelers
Chris Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast. The Pittsburgh Steelers' plans in the NFL Draft will prioritize leadership and great locker room players, especially on offense. While the defense has successfully passed down quality leadership to quality leaders over the decades, the offense didn't get a chance to do that since Ben Roethlisberger, David DeCastro and Maurkice Pouncey all left the team within a year of each other. Chris Carter explains why Russell Wilson is a fit for the effort to reshape the offense, and get back to having leaders that keep the team headed in the right direction. Also, he'll go over just how many players at the right positions must be taken before the Steelers select Oregon center Jackson Powers-Johnson in the first round. Finally, it's Mock Draft Monday. Chris goes over why this week's picks won and what trend he's noticing among Steelers' fans mock drafts.CALL INTO THE SHOW AT 412-223-6644 or if international, e-mail your audio message to LOSTEELERSTOPICBAG@GMAIL.COMFollow Chris Carter on Twitter: @CarterCritiques.Theme music is 'Soul Kick' by Ceddy P, and 'Too Easy' by Nerdboy. Once per quarter, BUILD Coaching Company hosts The Underground Huddle – a virtual group meeting between BUILD clients and select guests that features a guest speaker. Guest speakers feature prominent leaders in sports or small business. All guests live our mission to build an army of Disciplined Leaders and share our vision to be a resource for and a connector of current and aspiring leaders in small business, sports, and other areas of life. For the 9th Underground Huddle, the guest speaker is Jeremy Foley, who served as the Director of Athletics for the University of Florida from 1992 – 2016. Foley's career path was a unique one, having started as an intern in 1976 and moving through the ranks all the way up to his appointment as AD…all at the same school. Foley was responsible for hiring two of the most successful head coaches in college sports history: Urban Meyer (football) and Billy Donovan (basketball). During his tenure at UF, Meyer won two national titles and coached players such as Tim Tebow, Brandon Spikes, Maurkice Pouncey, and Mike Pouncey. Donovan also won two national titles and served as the head coach for Al Horford and Joakim Noah. Under Foley's leadership, the University of Florida became the first college program in history to own both the men's basketball and football national titles in the same calendar year. In total, Foley led the Gators to 27 national championships and it's no surprise that Foley has won multiple Athletic Director of the Year awards in his career. According to University of Florida's athletics' website, Foley “handled virtually every aspect of the $119.3 million athletic program during his athletic administrative career.”
CBS Sports NFL Draft analyst Ryan Wilson joined the show. In Ryan's recent mock draft, he has the Steelers taking Jackson Powers-Johnson. He said fans should have the same feeling they had when the Steelers picked Maurkice Pouncey and David DeCastro if they get him. He said the testing for Powers-Johnson was off-the-charts and said it's very hard to find anything wrong with his game. Could the Steelers trade up for a big play WR in the 1st round? Who does Ryan see the Steelers targeting in the 2nd round? Ryan dove into some of the mid-round options and guys the Steelers could see on the third day of the draft. Do the Steelers have any shot to snag Zach Frazier at 51st overall?
Hour 3: Some prankster called in to Pomp's show on Saturday and that perpetrator was Joe Starkey. The Giants announced today that they will not franchise tag Saquon Barkley. With that, we took a trip down memory lane to see the last time a 1st round RB got an extension from the team that drafted them. How many 1st round RBs have lived up to the pick they were drafted? Chris Carter and Jim Wexell debate, and Jim brings up his time covering the rise of other young Steelers offensive linemen stars like Maurkice Pouncey and Alan Faneca. Also, Mina Kimes on ESPN brought up how the Steelers' linebackers could be a big problem in 2023 with just Cole Holcomb and Elandon Roberts as starters. Is she right that it could be the undoing of the Steelers' defense? Or is Keanu Neal an answer that is being overlooked? Finally, Mike Tomlin seems to like something about this year's Steelers team. It is finally DRAFT DAY. How are you feeling going into tonight with the Steelers picking at 17? The guys are anxious with there being so many different ways the Steelers can go. Former Steeler Trai Essex joined the show. Trai said Peter Skoronski is the best offensive lineman in this draft and described him as an alpha – even comparing him to guys like Alan Faneca and Maurkice Pouncey. Trai has Broderick Jones as his second-best option for the Steelers. Trai talked about players getting pigeonholed as they go into the draft and how they can work their way out of that. Even though Trai loves Skoronski, he'd prefer to get a player without having to trade up and deal away some assets. He mentioned a few guys the Steelers can get with the 32nd overall pick if they don't get one of the top guys in the 1st round. He spoke highly of Dan Moore and thinks Chukwuma Okorafor would be the odd-man-out up front. He suggested going after a defensive tackle or corner at 17 because he thinks offensive line can be had later in the draft. When asked if he wants to trade up for Jalen Carter, Trai said YES YES YES. Trai talked about how the Steelers offensive line can fill out next season. Trai thinks the Steelers will take Joey Porter Jr. tonight. Former Steeler Kelvin Beachum joined the show. Kelvin talked about when he was drafted by the Steelers in the 7th round – referring to himself as “7D” because he was the team's fourth option in that round. Kelvin talked about how important Mike Munchak was to his success in the league. Kelvin gave a shout out to Maurkice Pouncey and said he still stays in touch with the former center. He got into the X's and O's that Mike Tomlin helped him with on the defensive side to make him more effective up front. Kelvin is a free agent and could see himself back in Pittsburgh if the fit is right. He talked about his early years here and how much he loves the community.
Poni lit a fire that has spread around on a national level regarding what happened between Mitch Trubisky and Diontae Johnson in the early season loss to the Jets. Poni set the record straight and wanted to offer an apology to Johnson. Former Steeler Kelvin Beachum joined the show. Football analyst Mike Golic Jr. joined the show. Mike talked about the cup of coffee he had with the Steelers and how Cam Heyward scared him into an early retirement. Mike hyped up some of the Steelers offensive line from the early 2010's like Maurkice Pouncey and David DeCastro. He also gave a shout out to Ramon Foster as an undrafted guy that made it in the league. Mike talked about training camp at St. Vincent College and how impressed he was with the fanfare. He said Ben Roethlisberger had a pretty positive relationship with everyone and how he's one of the most naturally-gifted guys to play QB he's ever seen. NFL film expert Greg Cosell joined the show. Greg just wrapped up his 43rd season as an NFL films expert. Greg liked Kenny Pickett a lot coming out of Pitt and that he was the best QB of last year's class because of his understanding of concepts. He said there are definitely things Pickett needs to work on, but that is expected with a young quarterback. Greg said sometimes Pickett leaves the pocket early and abandons the play not realizing how the pocket is forming around him, but he looked pretty poised for a rookie. Greg made his comparison between Pickett and Joe Burrow. He said it's not a bad idea to add talent along the offensive line with a young quarterback, saying the interior of the line needs more work. Greg said Najee Harris is a huge question mark in the Steelers offense as a foundational piece. Greg praised George Pickens coming out of college, saying he was the most talented guy in the class last year at his position. ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler joined the show. Jeremy thinks it would be tough for Mitch Trubisky to stay in Pittsburgh at the current number, but likely released instead of traded. The guys asked how possible a signing of Jacoby Brissett could be. Jeremy didn't rule out the Steelers signing Marcus Peters in free agency and commented on why it would match some moves they've made in the last few years. Jeremy thinks it will be a collaboration between Mike Tomlin and the rest of the front office when identifying free agents and draft prospects.

Steelers insider Mark Kaboly from The Athletic joined the show. Mark is behind Donny getting a Jason Kelce jersey. He said Kelce versus Maurkice Pouncey for a Hall of Fame nod is a very tough argument. Mark gave his thoughts on the potential of Taylor Lewan joining the Steelers, but thinks something as little as his podcast would be something the Steelers would dislike. Mark thinks TJ Watt is very protective of Derek Watt and it's pretty likely that's why he won't join the show or any local media outlet. TJ Watt joined CBS Sports Radio and answered a few questions about the season. Why do the Steelers have such a focus on stopping the run when most of the powers in the AFC don't use it that much in their offense? And it really seems like TJ Watt does not want Taylor Lewan on the team.

Chace Claypool has arrived in Chicago and took a subtle shot at the Steelers offensive scheme. Mike Tomlin has decided he will continue his loyalty to Matt Canada. Maurkice Pouncey also had something to say about the Steelers current offense. Award-winning 93.7 The Fan reporter Josh Rowntree joined the show. Poni asked Josh about his question regarding Matt Canada earlier today. Poni compared the Chase Claypool trade to times when the Pirates send a good player to a contender, but Josh isn't sold that the Bears will make him flourish. Josh said he hasn't seen or heard anything about Claypool being a distraction, besides personal Tik Tok's and the infamous 2-minute moment against the Vikings last year. Poni asked if anyone's responsibilities will change in the back half of the season.

In an emotional and at times, high-tension conversation, Mike & Maurkice Pouncey sit with Ryan, Channing and Fred for a different type of Pivot episode than we are normally used to where the men discuss controversial topics, have extremely heated debates and reveal truth in some scrutinized situations that they've been associated with over the years. Mike, former Miami teammate of Channing and Maurkice, a former teammate of Ryan's in Pittsburgh, known for being two of the best Centers to play in the league during their prime began their NFL career both as first round picks and retired on the same day in Feb of 2021. Extremely talented, the brothers always were at the center of controversial topics and extremely loyal to causes they believed in which a lot of times went against cultural norms and often against their peers in the locker room. Mike and Maurkice received a lot of backlash for their public support and loyalty to former Florida teammate and friend Aaron Hernandez after he was accused of murder and found guilty of several charges involved with serious off the field situations. For the first time since the death of Aaron Hernandez, the brothers publicly cleared the air and set the record straight on how their support was for the person, not the actions. Detailing the days of trial and leading up to finding Hernandez dead in his jail cell, many rumors and speculation circled about what really happened to Hernandez and both Mike and Maurkice share their personal insight into the situation. Fred also chimes in saying how he spoke to Aaron the night before he died as well and his thoughts on the overall feeling surrounding the incidents. Playing college football at Florida, the Pouncey Twins played for Urban Meyer, who they credit for helping them develop into mature men at an early age. Mike shares his thoughts on why Coach Meyer was not as successful at the NFL level as he was in College. Fortunate to play for Coach Mike Tomlin, Maurkice spends time explaining why Tomlin is the greatest leader of men and how he doesn't get enough credit for the impact he has made on so many who have played for him. Ryan asks Maurkice about the infamous conversation that him and Big Ben had on the bench after the playoff loss in the 2020 season and what went through his mind that night to lead to early retirement. In a tearful explanation. Maurkice shares what that moment represented in his life and why it was so important for him to leave the NFL at that moment and also walk away from the game he loved with his brother on the same day. Aditi was faced with the tough question regarding the Steelers offensive line. Could it possibly be worse than last year? She struggled to say a positive thing about that unit. She said she wishes Mike Munchak never left. She talked about lineman having a bit of nastiness in them and referenced Maurkice Pouncey and David DeCastro, who led the offensive line for nearly a decade.
The Steelers offensive line looked brutally bad on Saturday night. How dire is that unit? They have so little talent up front and have become too bull-headed to create a disaster. Chris referenced the 2016 offensive line, which featured Maurkice Pouncey (1st round pick), David DeCastro (1st round pick) and Marcus Gilbert (2nd round pick), and wondered why the Steelers have gone away from that formula? We heard an answer from Kendrick Green, who said he hasn't done anything to win the left guard battle against Kevin Dotson. The guys agreed that Dotson needs to be the man at left guard by week one. There is severe worry for James Daniels, who was supposed to be the leader of this group. HOF left tackle Tony Boselli joined the show. Tony was at the game Saturday night as a former Jaguars offensive lineman. To put it lightly, Tony said the Steelers offensive line struggled against Jacksonville. He highlighted Dan Moore Jr. struggling in one-on-one action with Josh Allen. He said the Steelers QBs were getting “harassed” for the entire first half and most of the game. He said technique is a change the Steelers can make up front that goes a long, long way. He said there is an unfair battle with playing on the offensive line because you are almost always facing superior athletes, but technique can be the great equalizer. He said offensive line coach is the most important hire for any head coach. Unfortunately, besides the Mike Munchak era, it doesn't appear like that coaching position has been taken very seriously. He said center is the point of communication and some guys aren't quite built to be a master of communicating along with the skills needed to play the position. He said the lack of reps through camp makes it hard for the guys to look good as a unit right off the bat. Tony had high praise for Kenny Pickett from Saturday night and was very impressed by the 2-minute drill before halftime. He said Pickett is probably the best quarterback on the roster and said it should be the best guy regardless of age or experience level. He doesn't like the argument of throwing a QB into the fire too early, he said “you're good or you're not.” He really likes the quick decision making from Pickett early on. White Hot PIT-JAX takes review.
Locked On Steelers – Daily Podcast On The Pittsburgh Steelers
Chris Carter, NFL and NCAAF analyst, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast, and is joined by Tony Serino of AFC North Talk. The Pittsburgh Steelers might have a secret weapon on their hands in the form of a solid tight end group. Pat Freiermuth burst onto the scene last year as one of the most promising rookie tight ends of his class, but Zach Gentry has taken significant strides as a No. 2 tight end as well. How much can offensive coordinator Matt Canada work both into an offense around new quarterbacks Mitch Trubisky and Kenny Pickett? And will Heyward be part of the plans as well? Also, a caller asks about the lasting impact of Mike Munchak as an offensive line coach. Chris Carter and Tony Serino review Munchak's work with Maurkice Pouncey, David DeCastro and the 2010s offensive line stars. What does Pat Meyer need as the Steelers' new offensive line coach to get a strong group from James Daniels, Kevin Dotson, Mason Cole, Chukwuma Okorafor, Dan Moore Jr. and Kendrick Green? Ben Roethlisberger and JuJu Smith-Schuster were leaders of the offense last year. The season before, Maurkice Pouncey, Al Villanueva and David Decastro were on that list as well. Now four are retired (or not on a team) and only Kansas City's Smith-Schuster remains in the league. When will a new leader emerge for the offense? This will be just one of the subjects that will be discussed in the latest installment of the BTSC family of podcasts, The Scho Bro Show with BTSC Editor Dave Schofield and his older brother Rich. As always, it sure is a good time to get on the airwaves and discuss the black-and-gold. On this show, Dave and Big Bro Scho break down all things Steelers, still talk stats, and also answer questions from fans! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Chris Carter, NFL and NCAAF analyst, is joined by Wesley Uhler of Steeler Nation Radio. The Pittsburgh Steelers NEED a center to emerge this season and the only real prospect who could plug and play in their offense is Iowa's Tyler Linderbaum. Zion Johnson switched to center for a little in the Senior Bowl, but none of the other natural centers in this NFL Draft class come close to what Mike Tomlin needs to lead an offensive line for Najee Harris, Pat Freiermuth and whoever they use at quarterback. Could they go after Ryan Jensen in free agency? Also, Kendrick Green was seen working out with Maurkice Pouncey. Can he do anything to be part of the Steelers' future on the line? And, Kyler Murray unfollowed the Arizona Cardinals' social media accounts. Is this a sign he's about to be on an NFL trade? Could the Steelers make a move? LOL not so fast my friends. Don't believe the hype.Follow Chris Carter on Twitter: @CarterCritiques.Theme music is 'Soul Kick' by Ceddy P, and 'Too Easy' by Nerdboy.
