The Word of the Day is Scenario (0:00-8:59) The baseball season unfolds over a lengthy 162-game schedule, emphasizing endurance rather than quick bursts of performance. Given this context, Dave Dombrowski is likely to be proactive, as he has a history of making trades around the deadline. In an ideal situation, the Phillies could emerge as the top team in baseball. Conversely, in a less favorable outcome, they may secure the second Wild Card spot in the National League. (8:59-16:52) We react to the Twitter Poll. Which of these two scenarios is more likely to happen? Phillies win World Series 51.1% Phillies miss Postseason 48.9% (16:52-28:50) Tyrone wants Brandon Marsh to be a .240 hitter vs Left-Handed Pitching. He cannot hit .190 if he is playing every day. If that is the case then Justin Crawford will be a name to monitor around Memorial Day Weekend. (28:50-38:43) One area of focus will be the catcher position. The Phillies plan to reduce JT Realmuto's game appearances to alleviate his workload. Rafael Marchan is expected to serve as the backup, bringing notable power and switch-hitting capabilities to the team. He will be positioned in the lineup to ensure he is a more formidable presence than the previous backup catcher. Considering this, we will analyze the number of games JT should participate in and project what constitutes a successful season for the veteran catcher. Every community has its heroes, and today, I'm honored to sit with one of Wake County's very own, Justin Crawford. An entrepreneur who's taken his expertise from the finance world to foster healthier living environments through Green Home Solutions, Justin's story is one of determination, family values, and unmistakable community spirit. Our conversation traverses his transition from investment banking to prioritizing indoor air quality.  We celebrate his profound sense of local engagement and involvement in everything from the Fuquay Varina Downtown Association to festive occasions that bind the community, while considering the larger fabric of support that enriches family life and community charm. Tune in as we dive into Justin's latest endeavors to fund childhood cancer research and bring the community together, yet again. He's stepping up to shave his head for the St. Baldrick's Foundation at an event at Fainting Goat in Fuquay Varina on Sunday, March 24th from 1-6 PM and is ready to rock the Guy Fieri look in the meantime for the St. Patrick's Day parade in Raleigh if his goal is met.  We shed light on the immense value of the foundations funding much needed research for new medications and maybe even a cure as well as our local organizations that provide comfort and joy to children enduring major medical treatments, illuminating the powerful impact of individual contributions, whether they're monetary, in-kind, or simply the act of showing up.Wrapping up our heartfelt dialogue, it's not just about getting to know the man behind Green Home Solutions; it's about recognizing the resilience and strength that emerges when we rally together for the common good. Through this episode, you'll not only gain insight into the invaluable work done by local organizations for children with serious illnesses but also leave with a reminder of the remarkable changes we can effect, simply by being there for one another. From my own experience through my daughter's journey to those touched by these organizations, one fundamental truth shines through: every ounce of support counts. Chad says get in on Crews and Landford. Paul and his son, Max, are getting in on Max Clarke. Everyone is watching Paul Skenes cards. We've got a bet going on at the SCSS and Duke Dodson helps the guys out. Paul says, he bets that the Jets miss the playoffs. Both Chad and Lefty will accept the bet but if they win more than 5 games, Paul has to wear an Aaron Rodgers jersey for the week. If Paul wins, Chad and Lefty have to buy Michigan State Spartan jerseys and wear them on the show. Duke's L of the week: During a show a customer set his cards to trade on a table, one of them being a Jalen Hurts card and the card, along with several others fell over and the card was damaged. Duke did the customer right by purchasing the card at the value before the drop. Chad's L of the week: He bought a Ohtani card for $30 with shipping that was in mint condition. The guy he bought it from sent it in a bubble wrap thinking it was going to be great. The card was completely bent because he didn't ship it correctly. Stay tuned later this week on how to properly package and ship your cards! Paul's L of the week: Don't crack and resubmit PSA grades. Paul didn't get the grade he wanted so he submitted 8 cards and they came back a lower PSA grade then what they were before he sent them. Lessons learned. Yoán Moncada and Josh Harrison also homered for the White Sox. Cubs 3, Mets 2 – Hoerner gets 3 hits as Cubs stop slide by topping Mets 3-2 Nico Hoerner hit a tiebreaking RBI single with two outs in the eighth inning, and the Chicago Cubs stopped a nine-game slide by topping the New York Mets 3-2. Christopher Morel sparked Chicago’s winning rally with a leadoff infield single against Drew Smith. Morel advanced to third on Willson Contreras’ single and scored on Ian Happ’s tapper to the right of the mound. After Seiya Suzuki popped out, Hoerner’s liner into center drove in Contreras from second for a 3-2 lead. Hoerner finished with three hits. Rowan Wick pitched a scoreless inning for the win, and David Robertson got three outs for his 13th save. Tigers at Guardians, PPD – Tigers-Guardians game postponed by rain The finale of the four-game series between the Detroit Tigers and Cleveland Guardians on Sunday has been postponed by rain. The Guardians have had nine home games postponed by inclement weather and have played seven doubleheaders at Progressive Field. The scheduled 1:40 p.m. game was called off about two hours before the first pitch. The game will be made up as part of a traditional doubleheader Aug. 15. The Tigers optioned rookie first baseman Spencer Torkelson, who batted .197 in 83 games, to Triple-A Toledo after the postponement was announced. Today No games tonight, All-star break 2022 Home Run Derby, 8:00 p.m.                                       Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles, CA Tuesday American League at National League, 8:00 p.m.                  Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles, CA Season Resumes Detroit Tigers                 at Oakland A’s, Thursday 3:37 p.m. Chicago White Sox           vs. Cleveland Guardians, Friday, 8:10 p.m. Chicago Cubs                   at Philadelphia Phillies, Friday, 7:05 p.m. MLB – All-Star Home Run Derby in LA, Sale’s hand exam Pete Alonso, Albert Pujols and Kyle Schwarber tee off in the All-Star Home Run Derby at Dodger Stadium, where fans see how far and fast the sluggers can launch longballs into the Los Angeles twilight. Alonso is trying to become the first player to win the derby three straight times. He tops the majors with 78 RBIs and has hit 24 home runs this season for the NL East-leading New York Mets. Alonso takes on Atlanta’s Ronald Acuña Jr. in the first round. The other pairings are Schwarber vs. Pujols, Juan Soto vs. José Ramírez and Julio Rodríguez vs. Corey Seager. MLB – Sons of All-Stars Holliday, Jones go 1-2 in MLB draft Jackson Holliday and Druw Jones, sons of All-Stars Matt and Andruw, were taken by Baltimore and Arizona with the first two picks in baseball’s amateur draft. Holliday, whose father is a former batting champion Matt Holliday, was chosen first by Baltimore over Jones in somewhat of a surprise. Justin Crawford, a son of four-time All-Star Carl Crawford, was taken by Philadelphia at No. 17. Texas used the third pick on Kumar Rocker, a big right-hander who failed to sign with the New York Mets after being selected 10th overall last year. With the 7th pick, the Chicago Cubs took RHP Cade Horton from the University of Okalhoma.  The Tigers chose Texas Tech 2B Jac e Jung.  The White Sox at 26 chose LHP Noah Schultz from Oswego East High School in Illinois. WNBA – Women’s National Basketball Association Yesterday Seattle Storm 81, Indiana Fever 65 Storm 81, Fever 65 – Stewart hit 4 3s, scores 25 to help Storm beat Fever 81-65 Breanna Stewart scored 25 points, Jewell Loyd and Tina Charles added 15 points apiece and the Seattle Storm beat Indiana 81-65 to extend the Fever’s losing streak to nine games. Seattle (17-8) is a half-game behind the Las Vegas Aces (18-7) and two games back of the WNBA-leading and defending-champion Chicago Sky (19-6). NaLyssa Smith led Indiana (5-22) with 15 points and nine rebounds. Golf – British Open – Smith rallies to beat McIlroy at British Open for 1st major Cameron Smith is the British Open champion not many saw coming. The Australian and his magical putter stormed from behind at St. Andrews to overcome Rory McIlroy and win the British Open for his first major. Smith made five straight birdies to start the back nine. He saved par on the dangerous Road Hole at the 17th. And he finished with two putts from 80 feet for birdie and a 64. It’s the lowest final round ever by a winner at St. Andrews, and Smith matched the major championship score to par at 20 under. Cameron Young finished second. Golf – LPGA – Jennifer Kupcho, Lizette Salas win LPGA Tour team event Jennifer Kupcho and Lizette Salas won the Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational on Saturday, closing with a 9-under 61 in best-ball play for a five-stroke victory. The U.S. Solheim Cup partners finished at 26-under 254 at Midland Country Club. They opened Wednesday with a 68 in alternate shot, shot a best-ball 61 on Thursday and took a four-stroke lead Friday with an alternate-shot 64. Kupcho won for the third time this year and in her career, while Salas won her second tour title. Kupcho won the major Chevron Championship in early April in the California desert and the Meijer LPGA Classic last month in Belmont, Michigan. Salas also won the 2014 Kingsmill Championship. Matilda Castren and Kelly Tan were second after a 62. NASCAR – Bell crashes NASCAR playoff field with win at New Hampshire Christopher Bell crashed the NASCAR playoffs, winning Sunday at New Hampshire Motor Speedway to become the 14th Cup Series winner this season. Bell mastered the track where he won Xfinity Series races in 2018, 2019 and 2021, holding off Chase Elliott, last week’s winner at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Bell is the 14th driver to earn a spot in the 16-driver playoff field. With six races left in the regular season, it leaves open the possibility that more than 16 drivers could win a race and the final playoff spot or spots would be decided on points. IndyCar – Scott Dixon ties Mario Andretti with 52nd career IndyCar win Scott Dixon snapped a 22-race winless streak Sunday and moved into a tie with Mario Andretti for second on IndyCar’s career wins list when he held off pole sitter Colton Herta and Felix Rosenqvist in the series’ return to Canada. Dixon’s first win since May 2021 at Texas extends Dixon’s streak of winning at least one race in a record 18 consecutive years, and it leaves him trailing only A.J. Foyt’s 67 wins on the career list. It also shoves Dixon into the thick of the points race as he chases a seventh title, which would match Foyt for the most in the history of the open-wheel series. USA Soccer – Alex Morgan has assumed a more vocal role for US women Alex Morgan and the U.S. women’s national soccer team are in Mexico preparing for a showdown with rival Canada on Monday night in the title game of the CONCACAF W Championship. The United States and Canada have already qualified for next summer’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand as top finishers at the tournament. But the winner of the final also earns one of the region’s berths at the 2024 Olympics in France. Morgan, 33, is now one of the more senior members of the team, which has brought in budding players like fellow forwards Sophia Smith, Mallory, Pugh, and Trinity Rodman since the Tokyo Olympics. Often associated with the 'Madchester' scene of the late 1980s, but never really part of that scene,[3] the band's debut single, "Lions" was released in 1989 on Playtime records (then home to Inspiral Carpets), followed the same year by the Music Is Shit EP. In 1990, they signed to Play It Again Sam (record label)|Play It Again Sam Records, September of that year seeing the release of "Fishes Eyes", and debut album Pigeonhole appearing in November, which reached the UK top 50.

Remember what I said last week about confusing episode numbering? This week marks the return of Outer Sanctum to the show in an interview recorded back in August, but held in reserve until now, while we awaited final mastering of their first full-length CD. So, let this be a small lesson to you bands out there: Sure having an outside, professional ear master your CD may be expensive, frustrating, and extremely time consuming, but the end result is totally worth it. For those of you who had access to the original, unmixed version of the album, this will be an entirely new listening experience for you -- even after we compress it down to 128Kbs for this download, or 96Kbs for those of you who use the stream. In addition, once this episode is placed back in its original context, it finally clears up (for me anyway) why I spent the next episode (#083 with Five 'Til Dawn, recorded the next day) calling Justin Crawford (a guy I've known for five years), Dustin Crawford -- as a large portion of this interview focuses on Outer Sanctum's newest addition, guitarist Dustin Bailey. Nice to know that, eventually, everything starts making sense around here. Though they had only played a couple of shows back when they first appeared on this show, Outer Sanctum has since become a recognized and popular act in the local scene. They made the finals in the 8 Seconds Rock Battle a year ago and have since played numerous gigs at area church functions as well as several of the more-popular bars and clubs around town. If you see their name on the billing of a venue near you, don't let a "faith based rock" moniker (or a few extra years' life experience) in any way dissuade you from giving these guys a serious listen. This is great, original hard rock/heavy metal in league with the finest bands in the city, blasted at you by some of the most energetic and enthusiastic live players you will find anywhere.  Verily, thy face will melt. This is another one of those shows I've been waiting for quite a while to do, not only because Five 'Til Dawn is one of my favorite bands to go see around town, but also because it's an offshoot band of The Dirty Third, which is another of my favorite bands to go see (and do podcasts with) around town. Long-time listeners will, of course, remember The Dirty Third from way back on -- you know, when I got Justin and Blake's names right, despite the fact that I had just that evening discovered a wonderful elixir called Jagermeister for the first time. Come to think of it, I got bassist Ray Ruiz's last name wrong that night. Ya know what? I suck at names, always have. I should just get over it. Answer to Justin and Blake's quandry though: You should always call me on that, smack me upside the head, then we just record a drop-in correction and move on. Though I think everybody's got their own opinion as to what makes a good song, for me it's one that conjures up a mental image that takes you out of your particular time and place every time you hear it. This can be done with an interesting chord or progression, choice of instrumentation, phrasing, rhythm, or in the case of Five 'Til Dawn (and the Dirty Third for that matter), lyrical content. Combine this with some great guitar riffs, tasty solos, and a rhythm section that makes you want to crack open a beer and say, "Hell, yeah!" and you've got a recipe for great music that is accessible to everyone, but still has a sophistication and maturity that is about something other than ogling a girl on a dance floor or the ever-so-cliche list of things your significant other did to you to justify your leaving him. So, buy the album and listen to it while you drive around in the car or grill out the last steaks of the season in the back yard, but make sure you come back to it later, over a beer or glass of wine, and get inside Justin Crawford's head for a while. This is music that works on a lot of different levels, which is rare these days. Links referenced in the show: Five 'Til Dawn can be found here: | | .
