The Nats lost 4-1 in Miami as they yet again were no match for Sandy Alcantara. Mark & Al tip their caps for the final time this season to the Cy Young candidate who went 4-0 in five starts in 2022 vs. Washington. (09:42) The offense had a quiet evening, except for Joey Meneses' Solo HR in the opening frame. Alex Call had a good game as he reached base three times (walk, single, HBP). Lane Thomas went 0 for 4 and remains hit-less in his career against Alcantara. (19:30) Erick Fedde took the loss and allowed nine hits in the process. The hosts look at Fedde's season as his ERA is currently at 5.34 and has struggled since coming off the IL. The Nats lost to Miami 3-1 as Sandy Alcantara bolstered his Cy Young case by throwing a 103 pitch Complete Game. Al & Mark tip their caps to the Marlins right hander, who is 3-0 this year vs. Washington in four starts. (03:30) Lane Thomas got the day off despite his surge as of late, because his career numbers against Alcantara have not been good (0 for 11 w/ 6 Ks). Do you agree with the manager filling out his lineup cards in this manner? His teammates had yet another game filled with base running gaffe in his absence. (09:20) CJ Abrams committed an error, but was the only National to double off of Alcantara on Sunday. Luke Voit meanwhile had three hits as he seemingly has settled in nicely into the DH role. By the way, what's the latest with Nelson Cruz's eye inflammation? (16:30) Anibal Sanchez pitched well, but was no match of course for Alcantara. Sanchez's ERA is at 4.40 and has five decent starts in last six outings. Al has some very interesting and unexpected words about Sanchez in mid September. (22:10) The Nats open a three game series on Monday night Atlanta and the Braves are just a game back of the Mets. The divisional race is of extra importance, because the winner will likely have a bye into the NLDS. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

The Nats beat Miami 5-3 to guarantee a series win while hitting four solo homers and oddly enough not singling. Mark & Al run through the offensive stars from the victory, including all the starting outfielders (Thomas/Robles/Call). Lane Thomas for the second straight season is hitting well post trade deadline and the hosts wonder where he fits into the 2023 lineup. (06:50) Victor Robles homered for just the 10th time post 2019, but this one went over 400 feet. He had been out of the lineup for a week and Mark explains the factors that led to why. (12:14) Luke Voit homered from the cleanup spot, his 21st of the season. Voit is arbitration eligible next season; and does that mean he is likely to return next year? (16:11) Riley Adams had a RBI double and has had an offensive impact ever since Keibert Ruiz's injury. However, Tres Barrera has not yet played since he was called at the beginning of the month and it does beg the question as to why that is the case. (21:10) Erick Fedde only lasted four innings, but his bullpen combined for five scoreless frames. What effect will pitch clocks have next season on Fedde, who is a very slow worker on the mound. The Nats won their 3rd straight on the road trip, a 6-0 shutout of the NL Central leading Cardinals. Mark (Live from St. Louis) & Al have a lot of positive stats to sort through as Washington has won six of their past eight games. (04:39) CJ Abrams had a four hit afternoon, which included a triple. He seemingly has looked more comfortable at the plate in this recent stretch and he clearly has the ""wheels" when he runs the bases. Keibert Ruiz also had a big game as he slugged his 7th homer of the season. (15:48) The surging Lane Thomas enjoyed visiting his old team as he reached base four times in the lead-off spot. He is hitting .350 through five September games, with seven hits. (28:05) Anibal Sanchez pitched his fourth consecutive solid outing as he threw five scoreless frames in the win. His decent performance as of late begins the question, "Will he return in 2023"? Mason Thompson recorded his first save in unorthodox fashion as he pitched the final three innings. The Nats poured it on in the 9th inning for a 7-1 victory at the Mets; their fourth win in the past six games. (Mark (Live from NY) and Al recap Patrick Corbin's excellent outing where he only allowed one run in seven frames; out-dueling Max Scherzer in the process. Corbin has won his past two starts in the span of a week and has three consecutive solid outings. (12:30) The offense had a very good night and they were paced by the tandem of Luis Garcia and Lane Thomas. They combined for seven hits, two homers, and 3 RBIs. Thomas quietly has hit fifteen homers this season. We also tackle what exactly happened with the controversial infield fly call in the 3rd inning. (26:05) CJ Abrams came through as well with two hits, including a two run single in the top of the ninth. This leads though to another conversation about head scratching base running by Washington. He explains why despite the stats, he is in fully in favor of Soto heading to the Midsummer Classic for the 2nd straight season. (07:01) The Nationals inexplicably were unable to score in all three extra innings despite having an ghost runner at 2B each time. Lane Thomas was the only offense of the afternoon as he slugged a 3 run pinch hit HR in the 7th. Hear what Davey said about the offensive futility afterwards. (14:12) The bullpen had a solid afternoon as the six relievers only allowed two runs in eight innings of work. Kyle Finnegan escaped a 7th inning jam, Carl Edwards Jr. came through with four big outs, and Tanner Rainey tossed two scoreless extra innings. (23:55) Luis Garcia was slotted in the lead-off spot just like Al suggested in the previous Nats Chat. Garcia did not get a hit, but he did draw a rare walk. Learn more about your ad choices. The Nats were blanked 7-0 in Baltimore in a rain shortened affair (6 innings). Al & Tim begin with the bewilderment of some of the decisions behind the two rain delays that occurred on Wednesday. Why did it take so long to call it a night? Austin Hays of the Orioles hit for the cycle despite it not being a full game, the 3rd player to do so against the Nationals. (07:45) Patrick Corbin struggled yet again as he was handed his 10th loss of the season and only lasted four innings. Tim takes advantage of his pinch- hosting assignment to lay out what he hopes the organization does with Corbin. The Nats ended all sorts of losing streaks by beating Philadelphia 9-3 as they had lost eight in a row overall, twelve straight to the Phillies, and thirteen consecutive against NL East foes. Mark & Al tip their caps to Jackson Tetreault who earned his first career victory in only his second career start. Will he get another Major League start? (09:15) Juan Soto capped a frustrating week on a positive note with a crucial three run homer, his 14th of the season. The forgettable home stand included banging his knee against the dugout, being called out for not 100% hustling down the line, and multiple hit-less games. He currently leadx the Majors with 55 walks on the season, nine higher than Kyle Schwarber. (21:08) We analyze the two errors the Nationals committed on Sunday. Lane Thomas could not make a grab in CF and Keibert Ruiz made a poor throw while attempting the back pick play that is becoming his signature move. Are teams becoming wise to his tendency? The Nats lost 7-4 to the Marlins as Stephen Strasburg pitched for Washington for the first time in over a year. Mark (live from Miami) and Al dissect his up and down start. Do they focus more on the seven runs he allowed or the five strikeouts he threw? What to make of fastball velocity? (20:45) Nelson Cruz was a late scratch due to a stiff back and will have a MRI soon. The lineup card meanwhile puzzled Al mightily as Ehire Adrianza was placed 2nd in the order (Cesar Hernandez was given a much deserved day off). Why not move up Luis Garcia higher in the lineup? Lane Thomas reached base three times in the lead-off spot and he already has five multi hits games in June. (30:31) Paolo Espino threw a scoreless bottom of the 8th and his ERA is 2.03. HE HAS YET TO PITCH THIS SEASON WHILE THE NATIONALS ARE AHEAD! As the team is in a stretch with no off-days for awhile, he might start a game during the upcoming homestand,. The Nats three game win streak came to a screeching halt in a 12-2 loss down in Miami. Al & Mark though do not begin with the game, but with the pregame confirmation that Stephen Strasburg will take the mound on Thursday night at the Marlins. He has not pitched for Washington since June 1st of last season. (13:06) Joan Adon was hit hard early and often as he allowed eight runs in three plus frames. His ERA is above 6.00 right as Strasburg is returning to the rotation and so it begs the question... Will Adon be sent down to the minors? Who starts on Sunday? (23:45) Luis Garcia homered on an evening that the offense did not do much against Edward Cabrera, as his tater traveled a distance of over 400 feet. What are reasonable expectations for Garcia at the plate now that he has seemingly been called up for good? Lane Thomas had two hits on Tuesday while occupying the second spot in the order and our antennas are on to see if he quietly is taking over in CF for Victor Robles. We've got a position player pitching! Patti is out with the plague which counts as down by 6 runs, so West Coast Correspondent Deborah joins Pottymouth and her Jamesons-spiked coffee for this week's show.We give a rundown on notable Pride month actions including Tampa Bay using the Progress Pride symbol (which is inclusive of black and brown and trans people) but leaving it to an “individual decision by players” as to wearing it or not. The Dodgers celebrate their 9th Glenn Burke Day, wearing pride hats on the field for the first time.  On June 11th, for Pride Day at Oracle Park, the Giants and Dodgers will be the first teams to jointly wear their progress pride hats on the field at same time. The Blue Jays get a nod for availability of gender-neutral bathrooms and donations to a local organization working with their staff on diversity and inclusion. Again the Yankees say “We don't do any theme nights” and the Texas Rangers are silent.Meanwhile, the Ohio's GOP-led house snuck language mandating a verification process for “suspected” trans athletes into an unrelated bill. This subjects any school athlete suspected of being trans to an external and internal examination. This horrific proposal affects everyone and could happen anywhere. It's everyone's responsibility to fight it so vote accordingly. Let the kids play.Patti's Nats bf Lane Thomas has a 3 home run game, and former bf Willians Astudillo not only stole a base on May 28, but then pitched a scoreless inning vs the Giants. Former bf (and current West Coast Correspondent bf) Joc Pederson's 3 home run game, was capped by a single leading to a walk-off win. What lead to his all time great hitting game?  Joc says “Barry Bonds was at the park and I talked to him for an hour.” Tommy Pham calls Mike Trout the worst commissioner in fantasy sports, which proves that Patti is better than Mike Trout with the possible exception of hitting and fielding (although we don't know that for sure). Xander Bogaerts broke the record for games played at short for Red Sox at 1094.  Give the longest tenured player on the team the C!Patreon supporter Bryan Jones uses his power for good to remind us all to watch the NCAA College Baseball Tournament. We share his LSU-centric thoughts including players to watch citing sexy defense and exceptional qHar, yet still manage to work in a go Terps! And a Buster Posey mention. Our fantasy league acted locally to punish Aaron Judge for denigrating OPACY. The Kids made their one and only trade ever to rid themselves of the perp, with the Leftovers promising to keep him on the bench. We say  “All purpose reactionary” “Tampa Bay is the least objectionable part of Florida,” and “Life changing pep talk without wearing pants.”Get boosted, fight the man, send your game balls to Meredith,  and find us on Twitter @ncibpodcast, on Facebook @nocryinginbball, Instagram @nocryinginbball and on the Interweb at nocryinginbball.com. The Nats won 8-5 in Cincinnati to end their four game skid. His evening started off on the wrong foot as Tommy Pham slapped a HR off of him right away, but Gray settled in after that point.
