Truman The “Rule of Faith” is a summary of the essentials of Christianity that occurs in various verbal forms in the writings of numerous early church fathers. The Apostles' Creed. Did the apostles write it, from where did it come? The similarities with the Rule of Faith are obvious, but there is no consensus on the literary origins of the creed. It probably has its origins in the third century. It was formalized somewhere around 800 AD. Early catechisms used the Apostles' Creed as the framework for teaching doctrine. Both Lutheran and the Heidelberg include it. Liberal & conservative theologians use it. Why does it have such a universal presence? It contains the controversial and disputed clause that “Christ descended into hell”. The basic teaching of “He descended into Hell” from - https://apostles-creed.org/interpreta... Those in Hell will not only see God, God will be present in their torment. They will have an ever reminder of God in plain view. Is this correct? Preaching to the Spirits in Hell The Roman Catechism teaches that, when Christ was dead and in the tomb, He was in Hades or Hell preaching the gospel to those who were dead prior to Christs crucifixion. The Roman Catholic Catechism states, “The gospel was preached even to the dead.” The descent into hell brings the Gospel message of salvation to complete fulfillment. This is the last phase of Jesus' messianic mission, a phase which is condensed in time but vast in its real significance: the spread of Christ's redemptive work to all men of all times and all places, for all who are saved have been made sharers in the redemption. Christ went down into the depths of death so that “the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live.” Jesus, “the Author of life”, by dying destroyed “him who has the power of death, that is, the devil, and [delivered] all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong bondage.” Henceforth the risen Christ holds “the keys of Death and Hades”, so that “at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth.” The Catechism of the Roman Catholic Church #634 – 635 One section in the Bible that the writers of the Roman Catechism get this teaching from 1st Peter. For Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, in order that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit; in which also He went and made proclamation to the spirits now in prison, who once were disobedient, when the patience of God kept waiting in the days of Noah, during the construction of the ark, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through the water. (1Pe 3:18-20 NAS) For the gospel has for this purpose been preached even to those who are dead, that though they are judged in the flesh as men, they may live in the spirit according to the will of God. (1Pe 4:6 NAS) Another section of the Bible that is used to support this is found in John chapter 5. Truly, truly, I say to you, a time is coming and even now has arrived, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live… Do not marvel at this; for an hour is coming, in which all who are in the tombs shall hear His voice, and shall come forth; those who did the good deeds to a resurrection of life, those who committed the evil deeds to a resurrection of judgment. (John 5:25, 28-29) Does this refer to the 1st or 2nd coming of Christ? Reformed pastor Daniel R. Hyde; “the words simply express the OT prophecies of the death and resurrection of Christ.” Dr. Trueman; “We should not abandon a clause in a creed simply because we do not understand it at first reading.” --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/biblebulldog/message

What's up with the Tabernacle? Should Christians study it? Does it have any relevance now? Daniel Hyde, the author of "God in Our Midst," joins us this week not only to answer these questions but also to teach about the Old Testament and Tabernacle.
Pastor and author Daniel R. Hyde discusses the context of John Owen's life and ministry and explains his lasting impact on Reformed theology and the broader church.
Welcome to The Shaun Tabatt Show! Today my special guest is Daniel R. Hyde and we'll be talking about his book A Well-Ordered Church: Laying a Foundation for a Vibrant Church (EP Books, 2015). About The Book: "Jesus is my personal Lord and Savior." No phrase captures better the ethos of modern evangelical Christianity. And while this is absolutely necessary for a Christian to believe and profess, what typically gets lost in much evangelical thinking and acting is Jesus' church. This book seeks to present to evangelical Christians the basics of ecclesiology, or, the biblical doctrine of the church. The authors say in these pages, “This is a church, in the most basic and fundamental of ways. No matter what view of church government you may hold, the goal is to draw you back to the big principles of Scripture to help you understand the church s identity, authority, ecumenicity, and activity.” About The Author: Rev. Daniel R. Hyde--"Pastor Danny" to the members of Oceanside United Reformed Church--has an eclectic past: he was baptized Roman Catholic, was converted in a Foursquare church, attended an Assemblies of God college where he flirted spiritually with Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, and Judaism before he discovered the riches of the historic Protestant and Reformed Christian faith. All of this prepared him to minister in the diverse religious culture of Southern California. In 2000, while still in seminary, Danny planted the Oceanside United Reformed Church (United Reformed Churches in North America) in Carlsbad/Oceanside, California. Fifteen years on later he continues as pastor and is married with four children. He and his wife enjoy showing hospitality in their home for meals, prayer, and to study the Word. Pastor Danny has a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) from Vanguard University, Master of Divinity (M.Div.) from Westminster Seminary California, and a Master of Theology (Th.M.) from Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary. His Th.M. thesis was entitled, "Of Great Importance and of High Concernment: The Liturgical Theology of John Owen (1616-1683)," and was read by Drs. Joel Beeke, Derek W. H. Thomas, and Mark Jones. He is currently a Ph.D. candidate at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. For additional show notes, visit ShaunTabatt.com/013.
