Many Christians understand that salvation is a gift of grace, but when it comes to growing in holiness, the conversation often shifts toward self-effort. Titus 2:11-14 makes clear that the same grace that saves us is also actively training us toward self-controlled, upright, and godly living. Grace is not simply something God did in the past. It is something He is doing right now. This means we are called to grace-dependent effort, working out what God is working in us, not relying on our own strength, but not sitting passively either. Christ gave Himself not only so that sin would no longer condemn us, but so that sin would no longer own us. We pursue holiness not to earn our place with Christ, but because we already belong to Him. The grace that saved you is the same grace that is training you today.

The word “grace” brings sweet thoughts; a kind and giving word. However a grace that saves must be a grace received when given. Are we learning and embracing the grace of God?

We often talk about album openers and closers and I'm sure my pal John Paulsen and I will get into that next week, but of all the songs that were included on this record, the opener and the closer just scream at you on Highway Companion. Both Saving Grace and The Golden Rose have momentum and hit that theme of travelling perfectly, but they do it in very different ways. Saving Grace soars above the scenery and exhilarates as it takes you on its journey. His vocals made Led Zeppelin the biggest band in the world and his solo career is now in its 5th decade encompassing all sorts of different musical styles and genres. But Robert isn't a man who needs to trade on his past to get by. While he doesn't forget where he comes from, he's one to always push forward to explore new sounds and new collaborators to fulfill his yearning for making music. It makes for a great night out with Suzi Dian and Saving Grace, with whom he recorded an album of celtic/bluegrass/country tunes, all of which were covers or traditionals. His voice is still very smooth and perfect for the music he's choosing to make today. He doesn't have the ferocious yawp of 70s Robert Plant but he reworks some Zeppelin classics to fit the style of his band, the music he plays and how he performs today. So you'll hear about a reworked Ramble On, a true to form Four Sticks and a raucous version of Friends. But he also gives Calling to You a makeover, as well as an amazing and soulful I'm In The Mood which he and Suzi make new again with their voices in unison. If you want to see a bunch of Zeppelin tunes performed the way they sounded on the albums, go see Jason Bonham's Led Zeppelin Evening (you can hear our review of that show from November, 2025) as it's an awesome show. Ephesians 2:8 - "For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God"There is no relationship with God without salvation. And there is no salvation without grace

What if knowing about Jesus isn't the same as truly encountering Him?  On the road to Emmaus, the risen Jesus turns head knowledge into a burning, life-changing reality.  Grace isn't just a safety net for eternity, it's power for the life you're living right now.  This is an invitation to move beyond religion and step into a real, transforming relationship with Him.

This message challenges the idea that growing in faith should make us less dependent on Jesus, using the older brother in the Prodigal Son to expose the trap of earning what was always a gift. It reveals that true spiritual maturity isn't self-sufficiency, but a deeper awareness of our ongoing need for grace.
