The Jay Franze Show: Your backstage pass to the entertainment industry

Send us a textThe struggle between head and heart shapes every artist's journey, but for rock vocalist Gina Fritz, this internal battle birthed "Chemicals" – a powerful anthem about perseverance in today's complex music landscape. When faced with the exhaustion of simultaneously playing creative and businesswoman, Fritz chose to follow her passion despite the uncertainty.Fritz draws inspiration from female-fronted powerhouses like Halestorm and Flyleaf while crafting her distinctive brand of rock that occasionally throws in "a breakdown or two" to keep audiences guessing. Though Connecticut's scene leans hardcore, her sound carves its own path, resonating with fans seeking authentic, emotionally-charged rock music.Behind every great artist stands a trusted team. Producer Christopher Paquette understands Fritz's vision, avoiding the "Disney princess" sound some producers force on female vocalists. Her band members function as true partners rather than hired musicians, each contributing beyond performances – from sound engineering to fan engagement. This collaborative spirit extends to her merchandise design and social media strategy, where covering songs by bands she opens for has proven surprisingly effective at connecting with new audiences. The modern musician's battlefield includes more than just stages and studios. Fritz navigates the content demands of platforms like TikTok with strategic purpose, seeing past the exhaustion to appreciate genuine connections with fans. When someone approaches her after a show saying "I found you through TikTok and now I love your music," the digital grind suddenly feels worthwhile.Ready to experience rock music that balances raw power with vulnerability? Catch Gina Fritz at upcoming festivals including Summer Scream Fest and Punk Rock Prom, or dive into her catalog featuring singles like "Chemicals." Follow her journey as she continues proving that authentic artistry can thrive even in today's algorithm-driven music world.LinksJay Franze: https://JayFranze.com Support the show

Star Wars Eclipse, the highly anticipated video game from Quantic Dream, might be facing the end of its journey. Rumors of trouble aren't new for Eclipse— whispers of cancellation first popped up in 2022— but this latest move by NetEase has fans on edge. UK users no longer can encrypt their data using Apple's iCloud services. iMessage, passwords, health data, and other information Apple handles, will still be able to use end-to-end encryption. Harvey Cushing: A Biography By John F. Fulton Read by Edison McDaniels, MD Coming soon to Audible! The 1946 biography of Harvey Cushing by John Fulton on audiobook for the first time ever! “The Power of One, the Impact of Many.” For neurosurgery, there is no individual who encapsulates the power of one better than Harvey Cushing. Cushing (1869-1939) is the founding father of modern neurosurgery and was remarkably productive even by today's standards. It is estimated that in addition to everything else he accomplished, he wrote the equivalent of 1,000 words a day for the entirety of his 70 years on this earth. He also operated on over 2,000 brain tumors (less than 5 attempts had been made to operate on any brain tumor before him, only one successfully). This was at a time without antibiotics, specialized imaging, blood transfusions, intensive care units, or anything more than primitive early anesthetic techniques. He quite literally invented modern brain surgery. HARVEY CUSHING, A BIOGRAPHY, by John Fulton.  • This is the definitive biography of Harvey Cushing, published in 1946. • First time ever on audio! • This is not an AI production. The voice is mine, and all technical aspects of the production are my own work. I am a team of 1. This is a highly polished presentation. • The audiobook is 45 hours in length..  • Listeners can go directly to individual chapters or any of the excerpts or bonus materials. The Story of a Great Medical Pioneer Written in 1946 by the eminent scholar and physiologist John F. Fulton, a man who knew and worked alongside Cushing, this is the definitive biography of one of the most significant figures in the history of medicine and surgery. Cushing's legacy is present in every operating room in the world everyday, for he was much more than the father of modern neurosurgery: among other innovations, he was the first to follow blood pressure during surgery and the first to develop a practical means of doing so. He was a pioneer in electrocautery, otherwise known as the electric knife, which is used in most operations today to control bleeding. He worked out the relationship between gigantism and pituitary tumors. These are just a few of the numerous innovations and discoveries he is credited with. He counted among his friends and patients many of the foremost physicians, statesmen, scientists, and scholars of his time. One of his daughter's married FDR's son. Included among the correspondence here are notes and letters with Sir William Osler (the father of modern internal medicine), Walter Reed (the man who conquered Yellow Fever), William H. Taft, The Mayo Brothers (founders of The Mayo Clinic), William Halsted (the father of modern surgery), and many, many more. This work will be of great interest to neurosurgeons, medical students, nurses, neurosurgical physician associates, medical product reps, and anyone with any interest in the history of medicine. Cushing knew everybody who was anybody in medicine during the first third of the 20th century and it's all described here in remarkable prose. There is much material here on the founding of the Johns Hopkins Medical School as well as the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston. Includes the founding of the the Cushing Brain Tumor Archive at Yale and The Harvey Cushing Society, now known as the AANS. It will be easily accessible and can be listened to in piecemeal fashion, such as to and from work for 10 minutes at a time, or on a long car ride or when traveling by plane for hours. A surprising amount of Cushing's advice remains relevant to today's physicians in general and neurosurgeons in particular. I am a board certified neurosurgeon. I am also an accomplished audiobook narrator. I developed this over the years as a hobby that I could work at at any hour of the day or night amidst the busy schedule of a practicing neurosurgeon. I have a professional recording studio in my home and have recorded over 50,000 minutes of spoken word audio.

We talked about everything we could think about, and even had some background jams provided by PA based punk pop band Headways: https://linktr.ee/headwayspa Observe the 93rd was voted 2021 Best Alternative Rock Band and Derek received the award for Best Male Vocalist at the Central Pennsylvania Music Awards. Observe the 93rd is an alternative rock band from Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. It's comprised of vocalist/guitarist Derek Henry and drummer Dylan Zepp. Their focus will always be "raw, authentic expression." The songs are guided by a feeling, an idea, an experience, failure, triumph, suffering, joy...any abstract internal entity that yearns to be externalized. Sometimes the expression of this is a means of reflection, sometimes a means of relief and survival, and other times merely an exploration of the mind or ideas. Observe has played shows with: Foxy Shazam, Fuel, Three Days Grace, Stone Temple Pilots, Seether, Puddle of Mudd, Otherwise, Flyleaf, Lacey Sturm, Cold, Sponge, Drowning Pool, Saliva, Joyous Wolf, From Ashes to New, P.O.D., Icon For Hire, Conquer Divide, The Funeral Portrait, Rivals.

Electric artists have been playing acoustically since the beginning of recorded music. Usually, the slower ballads and the prettier mellow songs by rock artists were accompanied by acoustic guitars. This week we are celebrating bands that can re-imagine their songs with acoustic instruments and still rock! We are pulling the plug… and gasping for air guitars! What's this InObscuria thing? We're a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. This week we discuss the FORGOTTEN. Mtv started a series in 1989 called “unplugged”, and almost every mainstream relevant act started producing acoustic albums or versions of their songs. This week we listen to some artist that you may have never considered as having acoustic interpretations of their songs.Songs this week include:Classless Act – “All That We Are” from Welcome To The Acoustic Show - EP (2022)Minus The Bear – “Knights” from Acoustics (2008)The Pretty Reckless – “Only Love Can Save Me Now” from Other Worlds (2022) Backyard Babies – “Th1rt3en Or Nothing” from Silver & Gold (2019)Flyleaf – “Fully Alive” from Flyleaf (2005)Machine Head – “Darkness Within” from Unto The Locust (2011)Sway – “Stood” from Kawfee Talk (1998)Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://twitter.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!: https://www.redbubble.com/people/inobscuria/og-shopCheck out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/If you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/

The genre hosted many different sub-genres and ranged from sad, campfire-like tunes to raging, heavy rock riffs, so it's no surprise it resonated with millions of people worldwide. Over 20 years ago, the sound and style of Evanescence changed the landscape of rock music in the United States. Today, Allissa is taking a sound and style pioneered decades ago to the next level with raw heartfelt lyrics and a fresh approach.Allissa's style is also reminiscent of Flyleaf and Tori Amos. What makes Allisa's music so powerful is that with raw honesty she addresses emotions and situations that we often attempt to surpress. By listening to Allissa's music, you will soon be comforted that you are not alone in life's struggles and inner healing can begin. Her art is a form of music therapy.Rock music is not dead and Christian Rock music certainly is not dead. The music of past seasons is simply fading away for a new season of artists and musicians such as Allissa who are the genuine article. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

“I hope you see our growth as songwriters and as a band.” Frontwoman Caitlin Henry is full of the ambition and humbleness that anyone could ever channel. We are joined by this talented vocalist from Newcastle-based rock outfit Eat Your Heart Out. It's been one decade into this particular world for Caitlin and company, and it feels as if they have found their stride, musically and artistically. We get the opportunity to speak with Caitlin about the highly-anticipated 2nd studio album “Can't Stay Forever,” which will tug on the heartstrings of many early 2000s pop-punk fans. Eat Your Heart Out has developed quite the chemistry between the individual musicians - blending in the sounds of Jimmy Eat World, Flyleaf, No Doubt, and Simple Plan, but with a modern twist of their own recipe. This map of creativity has made them stand out which as result, landed them on a revered label like Fearless Records. Despite lineup changes recently, Caitlin stayed focused and believes the band is destined for greater things in the near future. Take their debut album “Florescence” for example, racking up several million streams on multiple platforms around the world, and sharing the stages with other established rock exports like Knuckle Puck, Tiny Moving Parts, and Hands Like Houses. Ten years can fly by real quick when you're building on the success mark, and still, Caitlin stays humbled and knows that all she needs to do is keep singing from the heart. And yes, we are definitely seeing a talented songwriter bloom right in front of our very own eyes, along with a drummer, bassist, and guitarist to round out the musical arsenal. Well done to Caitlin and company. Tune in now and be sure to buy and stream “Can't Stay Forever,” dropping September 9 via Fearless Records.Stay connected with Eat Your Heart Out, visit: https://eyhoband.com/, https://www.facebook.com/eyhoband and https://www.instagram.com/eyhoband/Stay connected with IUF, visit: https://interviewunderfire.com/

In the United States, the suicide rate increased 25.4% from 1999 to 2016. In 2018, there were an estimated 1.4 million suicide attempts and more than 48,000 deaths by suicide  If this isn't alarming to you, check your conscience and realize that there is an evil spirit roaming the earth that doesn't want any of us to live.    This episode features two stories of redemption. One is a young lady we'll call Em, who grew up as a Pastor's daughter, and yet found herself in at the edge of suicide. The other is Lacey Sturm, a rockstar from the band, Flyleaf. At the age of 16, she found herself in the same valley. Their stories, while terrifying on many levels, will encourage your heart and empower your faith to break the spirit of suicide wherever you find it.    If you have young people in your world, this hour could mean the difference between life and death, knowing what to look for, and learning how to respond when the warning sirens go off. I believe God wants to equip you to be an ambassador of grace who can walk someone out of the valley of the shadow of death. Oh, by the way, about the title of this podcast? It's the first time we've ever chosen an album because of our bonus singles episodes, as we put up 4 bands in our monthly poll whose singles we loved and much to Bryan's chagrin, Flyleaf won out. A band that seemed to take their nu-metal cues from Linkin Park more than Korn, this 2005 release comes right at the very tail end of nu-metal, bridging the gap between that genre and screamo in a way that John likes but Bryan decidedly does not. The disagreement aside, we talk about our first concerts, the song Bryan lost his virginity to, the production choices on the album, and we learn an awful lot about how much this band loved Jesus.   If you want to do some worship of a different kind, you can donate to our Patreon at patreon.com/thepodkast, where $4/month gets you THREE bonus episodes every month. Last month, we covered a truly bizarre MTV documentary about the making of a Korn video, and this month, we have an interview with the Korn fan who won the contest to direct that video AND we review the Freddy v. Jason soundtrack. Plus we review singles and we take donations from you to tell us what to listen to! It's all there, so check it out.

Good Friday Episode. Nothing about this ep is actually Good Friday themed and if there was, I would like to decline from making those connection for both of our sakes. We talk about the persecution reverse revenge fantasy and martyr fetish that informs so much of the conservative evangelical christian milieu and discover just how Fox New's got its start as a propaganda machine. This is a re-recording because I lost the first recording of episode 8. Starting from this point, the next three episodes were chaos, i recorded them out of order because i kept saving over the previous episodes. Anyway, three back to back skubalacasts for us all. God bless us everyone, because today is the day we remind ourselves that Jesus died.
