ELEANOR CLIFT, Former Newsweek White House Correspondent, Contributor at the McLaughlin Group and Columnist at The Daily Beast Eleanor Clift is a columnist for The Daily Beast. Clift writes about politics and policy in Washington and the partisan clashes that make governing almost impossible. Eleanor has covered every presidential campaign since 1976. As a reporter in Newsweek's Atlanta bureau, Clift covered Jimmy Carter's bid for the presidency. She followed Carter to Washington to become Newsweek's White House correspondent, a position she held until 1985. She is best known as a panelist on the syndicated talk show, “The McLaughlin Group,” which ended a 34-year run in 2016. Eleanor lives in Washington, DC, where she is on the advisory council of the International Women's Media Foundation, the board of the American News Women's Club, the board of governors of the National Hospice Foundation and the board of Respect Ability, which advocates for people with disabilities. She has written four books, co-authored two and has appeared as herself in three movies and several documentaries and television series. MESSAGE FROM UNITED STATES SENATOR MICHAEL D. BROWN Eleanor Clift and I will discuss the results of the General Election, which seem to be more of a "red ripple" than a "red wave." What will this mean for the Biden administration and, more importantly, what will it mean for the District which is subject to the control of Congress? I look forward to hearing Eleanor's insights on politics in America, the divide in public opinion and what she sees going forward with our economy and for our community. You are invited to tune into, and participate in, our post-election conversation as we discuss where America is now headed after the midterms.
Newt Gingrich's glory lasts for about six weeks. Once he's the center of attention, the majority of Americans don't like what they see. He makes missteps as House Speaker, and by 1999, he has resigned and left Congress. But today, his legacy has far outlasted his time in the House — and he's still making waves. How should we understand his impact on politics today? As the U.S. deals with partisanship, gridlock, and anti-Democratic forces in the Republican Party — how much credit or blame does Gingrich deserve? Steve talks with three longtime political observers: John Podhoretz, Eleanor Clift and Susan Page.

Eleanor Clift is a political reporter, a columnist for The Daily Beast, and a contributor to MSNBC. And Joe Concha is a reporter for The Hill. Both Eleanor Clift and Joe Concha look back wistfully to times of compromise, during the Carter and Obama administrations. Concha notes that politicians on the fringes get the most air time on cable news shows, and therefore become the most powerful figures in their parties. Pat Buchanan, author and former adviser to presidents Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan. Eleanor Clift, columnist with The Daily Beast and a contributor to MSNBC. Also, with the benefit of hindsight: Jacques Chirac had one of the longest political careers in Europe, but he may best be remembered internationally for leading France's strong opposition to the US-led invasion of Iraq in 2003.
