The discussion features guests Karla Steckler Tye, CEO of Children's Advocacy Centers of Mississippi, and DiDi Ellis, CEO of Kids Hub Child Advocacy Center. Today, they share their combined 25 years of experience and innovative approaches in addressing workforce turnover and highlight Mississippi's pioneering efforts to implement Child Advocacy Studies (CAST), a program designed to prepare the next generation of professionals through interdisciplinary training and experiential learning. The discussion emphasizes the challenges that turnover creates, especially in rural areas like Mississippi, where the loss of a key staff member can disrupt services for children in need. Both Karla and DiDi explain how CAST helps fill these gaps by ensuring that students entering the CAC field are better prepared and equipped with the skills necessary to provide comprehensive care. They also share personal anecdotes, including how CAST has transformed student interns into long-term hires, effectively reducing turnover and enhancing the quality of care. We'll also hear from a graduate of CAST who did her internship at a CAC and what she found so valuable about her experience. The episode offers a deep dive into how intentional recruitment, training, and strategic planning are essential to sustaining the CAC workforce for the future. Hit the subscribe button now! rWotD Episode 2795: Destin Executive Airport Welcome to Random Wiki of the Day, your journey through Wikipedia’s vast and varied content, one random article at a time. The random article for Saturday, 28 December 2024 is Destin Executive Airport.Destin Executive Airport (IATA: DSI, ICAO: KDTS, FAA LID: DTS), also known as Coleman Kelly Field, is a public use airport owned by and located in Okaloosa County, Florida. The airport is one nautical mile (2 km) east of the central business district of Destin, Florida. It is included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2021–2025, which categorized it as a general aviation facility.Although many U. S. airports use the same three-letter location identifier for the FAA and IATA, this airport is assigned DTS by the FAA and DSI by the IATA. The airport's ICAO identifier is KDTS. Due to its close proximity to Eglin Air Force Base and the high levels of military flight activity, all flights to or from Destin Executive Airport must adhere to "special air traffic rules" and obtain ATC clearance before entering the Eglin/Valparaiso terminal area. The Destin Executive Airport is an independent general flight office possessed and worked by Okaloosa Area, and is not reliant on ad valorem charges. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 00:21 UTC on Saturday, 28 December 2024.For the full current version of the article, see Destin Executive Airport on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm neural Stephen.
Australia's states and territories unanimously backed a national plan to require most forms of social media to bar children younger than 16. Leaders of the eight provinces held a virtual meeting with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to discuss what he calls a world-first national approach that would make platforms including X, TikTok, Instagram and Facebook responsible for enforcing the age limit. “Social media is doing social harm to our young Australians,” Albanese told reporters. “The safety and mental health of our young people has to be a priority.” The government leaders had been discussing for months setting a limit, considering options from 14 to 16 years of age. While Tasmania would have preferred 14, the state was prepared to support 16 in the interests of achieving national uniformity, Albanese said. The legislation was introduced into Parliament, and the age ban will take effect a year after it passes into law, giving platforms time to work out how to exclude children. The government has yet to offer a technical solution. The delay is also intended to allow time to address privacy concerns around age verification. The main opposition party has given in principle support to the 16-year age limit since it was announced, suggesting the legislation will pass the Senate. More than 140 academics with expertise in fields related to technology and child welfare signed an open letter to Albanese last October opposing a social media age limit as “too blunt an instrument to address risks effectively.” Critics say most teenagers are tech-savvy enough to get around such laws. Some fear the ban will create conflicts within families and drive social media problems underground. Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram, argues that stronger tools in app stores and operating systems for parents to control what apps their children can use would be a “simple and effective solution.” This article was provided by The Associated Press.

This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit paulpodolsky.substack.comMan has always asked the question: what is it all about?J. Krishnamurti, 1969Stories are intrinsic to being human, a survival mechanism. Some forms of story—poetry—can be created virtually for free and others—movie making—cost millions of dollars. But just because we need something, doesn't mean it's easy money. What's a good business? Monopolies (toll bridges), massive economies of scale (big tech), products people are addicted to (cigarettes), and services you are legally obligated to buy (insurance) all offer good cash flow even if some of them, like cigarettes, are terrible for you. Making movies is far cooler than any of these businesses but faces a structural challenge. Supply is unlimited and demand (our time) is fixed. That's why I wanted to talk to Mike D'Alto, the founder of First Gen Content, a film finance and production company that has made the films Bird, Catch the Fair One, Call Jane, and On Swift Horses. Mike co-founded the company with three others: Claude Amadeo, Randal Sandler, and Chris Triana. Mike and I both share a passion for stories and business. Many storytellers don't understand finance; many business people don't understand stories. Mike is the rare person with an understanding of each. The basic issue is stories and businesses operate on different time frames. You can only measure good art over long time frames, like centuries. Does it have staying power? Yet, we measure business acumen in quarters or years. Any storyteller who is not independently wealthy must navigate these opposing realities. Also, before turning to the investment update, I want to share that one of the previous podcast guests, George Manahan, testified before Congress, the link to his testimony is here, before the passage of the National Plan to End Parkinson's Act. I'm hopeful this podcast gave him a platform to share his message. Investment Update

The writer Michael Morpurgo and his wife Clare have long been advocates for helping young people learn more about farming and the countryside, so much so, that they set up Farms for City Children nearly 50 years ago. Young people help run the farm and learn about both farming and nature. For one of their latest projects in Devon, they've teamed up with the Woodland Trust to involve primary school children, planting trees inside what they call roundels - a protective barrier, which keeps out livestock until the trees are big enough to become part of an agroforestry grazing system.MPs on The Science and Technology Committee have called on the government to publish its National Plan for Sustainable Pesticide Use which has been been delayed by six years. The report on insect decline and pesticide use says insects are vital for food security and describes government targets to reduce pesticide use by at least half by 2030 as ambitious and welcome, but also narrow and incomplete. The Royal Entomological Society, which gave evidence to the committee, says the decline in insects has serious implication for ecosystems - including agricultural ones We hear a lot about waste in food and farming and this week we are going to look at ways of using by products or waste products from agriculture as something useful. Welcome to The Nonlinear Library, where we use Text-to-Speech software to convert the best writing from the Rationalist and EA communities into audio. This is: Observatorio de Riesgos Catastróficos Globales (ORCG) Recap 2023, published by JorgeTorresC on December 14, 2023 on The Effective Altruism Forum. The Global Catastrophic Risks Observatory (ORCG) is a scientific diplomacy organization that emerged in February 2023 to formulate governance proposals that allow the comprehensive management of different global risks in Spanish-speaking countries. We connect decision-makers with experts to achieve our mission, producing evidence-based publications. In this context, we have worked on several projects on advanced artificial intelligence risks, biological risks, and food risks such as nuclear winter. Since its inception, the organization has accumulated valuable experience and generated extensive production. This includes four reports, one produced in collaboration with the Alliance to Feed the Earth in Disasters (ALLFED). In addition, we have produced four academic articles, three of which have been accepted for publication in specialized journals. We have also created three policy recommendations and/or working documents and four notes in collaboration with institutions such as the Simon Institute for Long-term Governance and The Future Society. In addition, the organization has developed abundant informative material, such as web articles, videos, conferences, and infographics. During these nine months of activity, the Observatory has established relationships with actors in Spanish-speaking countries, especially highlighting the collaboration with the regional cooperation spaces of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) and the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), as well as with risk management offices at the national level. In this context, we have supported the formulation of Argentina's National Plan for Disaster Risk Reduction 2024-2030. Our contribution stands out with a specific chapter on extreme food catastrophes, which was incorporated into the work manual of the Information and Risk Scenarios Commission (Technical Commission No. 7). We invite you to send any questions and/or requests to info@riesgoscatastroficosglobales.com. You can contribute to the mitigation of Global Catastrophic Risks by donating. On this special episode of The Healthcare Plus Podcast, host Dan Collard sits down with Quint Studer, co-founder of Healthcare Plus Solutions Group, and Katie Boston-Leary, Director of Nursing Programs, American Nurses Association to analyze key findings of the latest Models of Care Insight Study and what they mean for the healthcare industry. The Models of Care Insight Study Part II, conducted by Joslin Insight, collected 1,450+ responses from direct care nurses, nursing leadership, and healthcare executives in the acute care and ambulatory settings. The goal of the second study was to gain a better grasp of how nurses can operate at the top of their licensure while cultivating leadership qualities to enhance their contributions to their organizations. Key findings include:Retired nurses are willing to help fill the knowledge and complexity gap but most don't want full time work and aren't interested in direct patient care.Nurses rate their weakest leadership traits as change management, positivity, and delegation.63% of respondents say their organization's CNA workforce is understaffed or very understaffed. 47% of respondents say CNAs are not treated with the same respect as their RN peers. Quint and Katie stress that there is not one solution to all of these challenges but that there are steps leaders can take to narrow the scope, reduce caregiver workloads, and improve care delivery. About Katie Boston-LearyKatie Boston-Leary is the Director of Nursing Programs at the American Nurses Association overseeing the Nursing Practice and Work Environment Division and Healthy Nurse Healthy Nation. For 60 years, the United States has been fighting poverty but the number of people in poverty has only increased. Why is this, and what can we do to finally make an impact? Co-founder of The Shared Humanity Project, Mark Bergel, is joining host Jamie Truman on this episode to answer these questions and more. He says that we've been addressing the poverty crisis all wrong, addressing the symptoms instead of the cause, exploiting those in poverty, and spending money on programs with no evidence that they'll be effective.Poverty has an impact on crime, education and more issues that affect our communities. In fact, 97% of people born into poverty in East Baltimore never get out of it, and poverty plays a role in three deaths per day. In this episode, Mark shares the “truths of poverty” and The Shared Humanity Project's National Plan to End Poverty. You'll also learn how The Shared Humanity Project is amplifying the voices of those in poverty, becoming a resource of information, and aiming to make a difference in every local market. Tune in to find out how we as a society can merge compassion with action to alleviate poverty, and how to get involved with The Shared Humanity Project! Ghislaine Maxwell has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for helping former financier Jeffrey Epstein abuse young girls. We speak to Equality Lawyer Georgina Calvert Lee about her statement in court where she addressed her victims, saying she empathised with them, and that she hoped her prison sentence would allow them "peace and finality". The tragic killing of Ashling Murphy in Tullamore, County Offaly in Ireland in January of this year sparked a huge public outcry, and has been seen as a watershed moment in how the country tackles violence against women and girls. Ireland has launched its third national Domestic, Sexual and Gender-Based violence strategy. Emma speaks to the Minister for Justice in Ireland, Helen McEntee about what it aims to achieve. Dame Deborah James has died aged 40 from bowel cancer. The cancer campaigner, blogger, broadcaster and former teacher had been receiving end-of-life care at home and raised millions for cancer research. She was given a damehood in May in recognition of her fundraising. Emma speaks to GP Dr Ellie Cannon, and Julia Bradbury who has spoken about her journey with breast cancer. Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries has told UK sporting bodies that "elite and competitive women's sport must be reserved for people born of the female sex". We get the details from our reporter, Jane Dougall. The National Plan for Music Education was published by the UK government last Saturday. Called The Power of Music to Change Lives, their ambition is for every pupil to have at least one hour of high quality music education a week. We speak to Veronica Wadley, Baroness Fleet, the chair of the advisory panel that published the report, and YolanDa Brown who contributed to it as a MOBO award-winning saxophonist and Chair of Youth Music.
Music education in the UK is in a perilous place, with the largest cuts in spending per pupil for 40 years, falling teacher recruitment numbers, and huge drops in GCSE and A-Level uptake. With a new National Plan for Music Education imminent, will it be enough to ensure music matters? Jude Rogers talks to Chrissy Kinsella, Chief Executive of the London Music Fund, about transforming under-served communities, if learning tunes are really less important than science and tech for career prospects, and why some people still think music is more a luxury than a necessity. “Classical music will always be full of elite, old, white people unless we change it.” “The problem always is and always will be funding.” “Wouldn't it be amazing if every primary school had a music teacher?” “We often focus on academic attainment, but we should also be celebrating music for the joy of music.” “There's such a lack of joined up thinking from central government.” https://www.patreon.com/bunkercast Written and presented by Jude Rogers.
