Is it possible for someone who eats a healthy vegan diet to become infected with the coronavirus? As much as you may wish to say no, the fact is that no diet can offer immunity to COVID-19. However, a healthy diet may still make a huge difference in the outcome of the case. On this episode of The Exam Room™ podcast, Eric O’Grey joins “The Weight Loss Champion” Chuck Carroll to share his experience with COVID-19. At one point Eric weighed 340 pounds and was on 15 different medications. Doctors even told him that he would die if he didn’t change his ways. He began eating a vegan diet and with the help of a loving dog, Peety, whom he adopted from a local shelter, began to lose weight and reclaim his health. He says that going vegan saved his life once. Now, after getting COVID-19 he thinks it may have saved it for a second time. Eric also speaks about mother-in-law who didn’t begin eating a plant-based diet until she was 96 and in poor health. Within weeks of making the change doctors took Josephine off of all her medication and she began walking 2 to 3 miles every day! She is proof that it is never too late to get healthy! Also on the show, Dr. Neal Barnard and Dr. Jim Loomis answer your questions! Is it healthy to eat oatmeal for breakfast every day? Will pureeing beans reduce the amount of fiber they have? Is it better to eat nuts raw or roasted? Tips for someone with osteoporosis who is going vegan? Many more Dr. Barnard will be speaking at the International Conference on Nutrition in Medicine. Due to the unfortunate spread of COVID-19, Parcast has decided to halt recording for the time-being. This is a precautionary measure taken to ensure the safety of our hosts and staff. In the meantime, we're excited to share one of our classic episodes that we know you'll enjoy! In 2009, San Jose resident Eric O'Grey was so dangerously obese that his doctor told him he'd be dead within five years. But with the help of a plucky rescue pup named Peety, Eric was able to turn his life around and find true happiness.
In 2009, Eric O'Grey was so dangerously obese that his doctor told him he'd be dead within 5 years. But with the help of a plucky rescue pup named Peety, Eric was able to turn his life around and find true happiness.
See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Welcome! and Thank you for listening. The 4th Annual Charlotte County Plant Based Nutrition Conference was a success. I believe the best conference we have done yet! Many thanks to Lynda Albert our event cohost, Addie Majnaric, RDN, Eric O"Grey, Alan Goldhamer and our chef, Cheffy Bowman. I would also like to thank our sponsors MamaSezz.com and TowerGarden of JuicePlus. It was a great day of motivation, education and celebration and we are already planning next year. The date has been set for March 28, 2020. I love to learn and observe. Hearing topics presented with a different twist along with new information is a great way to solidify knowledge. Many of our members feel uncomfortable or unsure of their plant strong convictions when bombarded by questions from their friends. Being at a conference like this one is a way to gain a deeper understanding not only of the science of plant based nutrition but the impact that it has on peoples health. As they say you are never too old to learn and I can attest to that. In today's episode, I share some of my insights on the topics presented at the conference. I hope you enjoy. Please check out the website atdoctordulaney.com for more information and opportunities to join our membership practice or subscribe to our newsletter and weekly blog. You will also find a link to mamasezz.com/doc . We have partners with pl to develop and promote an athletic bundle that will allow athletes to obtain great plant based nutrition even when traveling or just to busy to cook. You can get your nitric oxide promoting beets and many other nutrient dense foods that are tasty and handy. As always, thank you for listening.
Welcome! and Thank you for listening. Tickets sales close in 2 days for the 4th Annual Charlotte County Plant Based Nutrition Conference in Punta Gorda, Florida on March 30, 2019. You can purchase tickets at doctordulaney.com by clicking the link to Eventbrite.com. This is going to be a day of celebration. Health, wellness, motivation and education along with great plant based food. Dr. Alan Goldhamer will be speaking on water fasting as compared to intermittent fasting. Eric O Grey will share his health transformation journey and perhaps give us some marathoning tips!. I am going to brag about all of the successes my practice members have achieved and why we do what we do. Addie will give you the low down on tweaking plant based nutrition to help you achieve your optimal performance and health. What is not to like. Eating plant based is great and we know nitric oxide helps dilated blood vessels and reverses cardiovascular disease. But it also has a positive effect on our immune system to make cancer cells less prone to spread. Cholesterol plays a role in cancer spread as well so eating a plant based diet can decrease the potency of cancer cells by taking away a source of cholesterol. There are so many exciting ways eating a colorful, delicious, plant based meal can help us maintain health and wellness. Thank you for listening! See you this weekend in Punta Gorda, Florida. Email me with questions at jami@doctordulaney.com .
Welcome! and Thank you for listening. Addie and I talk about the SW Florida Vegefest that we attended this past weekend and much more. I have had three talks in the last week at three different venues. I believe they all served each audience differently. The first two were directed at audiences new to plant based nutrition and how it can reverse lifestyle diseases. The audience at the SW Vegefest was familiar with vegan nutrition, but were challenged by how a whole foods plant based nutrition program could make their health even better. I believe that we never should stop striving for better versions of ourselves. Whether that involves nutrition, fitness, or mindfulness, we can all strive to be better. Finding the best aspects of veganism and plant based nutrition can only make the world a better place, and a more positive experience for all of us. It is not about pointing fingers or making others look less authentic but to bring a positive message of hope for a brighter future for all beings. Addie and I would like to invite you to join us along with Alan Goldhamer and Eric O'Grey at the 4th Annual Charlotte County Plant Based Nutrition Conference March 30, 2019 in Punta Gorda, Florida. Please go to doctordulaney.com and click on the link to purchase your tickets. There are a limited number of private consultations with Addie and myself on Friday, March 29, 2019 as well. Tickets can be purchased on the same link. Email us at addie@doctordulaney.com or jami@doctordulaney.com with questions. Thank you for listening.
You don’t have to be an Olympic caliber athlete to reap the benefits of a plant-based diet! In this episode of The Exam Room™ podcast, find out why athletes from 8 to 80 years old are gaining an edge by taking meat and dairy off the table. “The Weight Loss Champion” Chuck Carroll sits down with Dr. James Loomis, medical director of the Barnard Medical Center, and dietitian Susan Levin who are co-authors of a new review scrutinizing food and athletic performance. Their findings point to some of the strongest links yet between diet and post-workout recovery. Chuck also sits down with a man who is living proof that plant-based eating can help make even the grandest of athletic dreams come true. Eric O’Grey returns to the show after qualifying for the elusive Boston Marathon. After losing 180 pounds and reversing Type 2 diabetes, Eric was blowing past runners many years younger than himself en route to punching a ticket to Boston and posting a personal-best time. Eric O'Grey's story is incredible. In 2010, Eric was 51 years old, was 340 lbs at 5'10, his waist was 52 inches, and he wore a 4XL shirt. He had Type 2 Diabetes, and his total cholesterol was almost 400. He was taking 15 different medications, and was completely miserable with his life and had no hope. In a last attempt to avoid bariatric surgery, he met with a plant-based, naturopathic doctor, who helped him transition to a whole-food, plant-based diet, and also advised him to adopt a dog... And his life would never be the same again. Eric is now 180 lbs, and has reversed his Type 2 Diabetes and other health issues. He recently wrote a book about how going plant-based and adopting his dog, Peety, saved his life, called Walking With Peety, and has been on basically every major news station and talk show talking about it. I'm excited to share my conversation with Eric. His story is amazing! Keep up with Eric on social media and check out his website! Facebook: Eric O'Grey www.ericandpeety.com Buy his book on Amazon! This weeks guest is Eric O’Grey. At the age of 51 Eric was 340lbs, wore a size 4XL, and was on 15 medications. His doctor said that if he didn’t do something he would need to purchase a cemetery plot because he would likely need one within the next 5 years. Eric decided to turn his health around, he has since lost 160lbs, is a best-selling author, and feels better than ever. We have a great conversation and thanks for watching.
Just a few years ago, Eric weighed over 320 lbs and was spending over $1000 per month on medications for a host of health problems, including Diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and more. Then one day Eric decided to pay a visit to a Naturopathic doctor, and this doctor recommended that he make some lifestyle changes, which included diet changes and also, adopting a dog. In this interview, you'll discover how Eric went from rock bottom to finding happiness, joy, and health in life, with help from his dog Peety.
