Mutual Rescue is an organization that is devoted to demonstrating that when people adopt animals, their own lives can be dramatically transformed in positive and often unexpected ways. Is it possible for someone who eats a healthy vegan diet to become infected with the coronavirus? As much as you may wish to say no, the fact is that no diet can offer immunity to COVID-19. However, a healthy diet may still make a huge difference in the outcome of the case.   On this episode of The Exam Room™ podcast, Eric O’Grey joins “The Weight Loss Champion” Chuck Carroll to share his experience with COVID-19. At one point Eric weighed 340 pounds and was on 15 different medications. Doctors even told him that he would die if he didn’t change his ways. He began eating a vegan diet and with the help of a loving dog, Peety, whom he adopted from a local shelter, began to lose weight and reclaim his health. He says that going vegan saved his life once. Now, after getting COVID-19 he thinks it may have saved it for a second time.   Eric also speaks about mother-in-law who didn’t begin eating a plant-based diet until she was 96 and in poor health. Within weeks of making the change doctors took Josephine off of all her medication and she began walking  2 to 3 miles every day! She is proof that it is never too late to get healthy!   Also on the show, Dr. Neal Barnard and Dr. Jim Loomis answer your questions!   Is it healthy to eat oatmeal for breakfast every day? Will pureeing beans reduce the amount of fiber they have? Is it better to eat nuts raw or roasted? Tips for someone with osteoporosis who is going vegan? Many more   Dr. Barnard will be speaking at the International Conference on Nutrition in Medicine. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Eric O'Grey's story is incredible. In 2010, Eric was 51 years old, was 340 lbs at 5'10, his waist was 52 inches, and he wore a 4XL shirt. He had Type 2 Diabetes, and his total cholesterol was almost 400. He was taking 15 different medications, and was completely miserable with his life and had no hope. In a last attempt to avoid bariatric surgery, he met with a plant-based, naturopathic doctor, who helped him transition to a whole-food, plant-based diet, and also advised him to adopt a dog... And his life would never be the same again. Eric is now 180 lbs, and has reversed his Type 2 Diabetes and other health issues. He recently wrote a book about how going plant-based and adopting his dog, Peety, saved his life, called Walking With Peety, and has been on basically every major  news station and talk show talking about it.  I'm excited to share my conversation with Eric. His story is amazing! Keep up with Eric on social media and check out his website! Facebook: Eric O'Grey www.ericandpeety.com Buy his book on Amazon!  Enjoy!   Credits: Music: www.bensound.com

We're talking about MINDFULNESS with musical inspiration from P!nk. Mindfulness is a technique adopted to become aware of moment-by-moment thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations in a non-judgmental way. ... In the US, mindfulness is increasingly used for eating habits and diabetes management. Research has shown that mindfulness enhances the clinical effect of glycemic control. Mindfulness can help break down the constant cycle of becoming stressed, anxious and depressed. Pressures and strains of everyday diabetes life cause an internal battle of avoidance. People strive to avoid ‘negative emotions' such as guilt, sadness, frustration, and anger and are attracted to feelings of happiness and contentment. Mindfulness allows you to accept the way you feel rather than constantly battling to try and change it. Guests include Chilbrook Kennels Breeder Author, Diabetes Alert Dog and Scent Detection Expert, Debby Kay, ‘Walking with Peety' Author Eric O'Grey, Poet Lorraine Brooks, ‘Yoga for Diabetes' Author, Rachel Zinman, and the Charlie's Angels of Outreach featuring Patricia Addie-Gentle RN, CDE.  Throughout the podcast, we will feature songs from P!nk's ‘Beautiful Trauma' album courtesy of SONY Music.
