With a Harvard MBA, she was a senior executive working in high tech, most recently at Intuit, Inc. Listen Now China Switches from One-Child to One-Dog Policy China may have scrapped its one-child policy, but one Chinese city (Qingdao) has now instituted a one-dog policy! Those who own more than one pooch will be required to surrender their furry friends to an adoption agency. Anyone who violates the rules will be fined the equivalent of $60 US dollars. Listen Now Employers Offer Pet Insurance There is a new and fast-growing trend for employees being offered by generous companies. It's employer-sponsored benefit plans that insure the family pet, dogs, cats, ferrets, birds or potbellied pig against accidents and illness. Some 5,000 companies, including Microsoft, Yahoo, Xerox and Hewlett-Packard, now offer pet insurance. Listen Now Don't Use Your Pet's Name As Password When it comes to choosing a password, hopefully you do NOT pick a pet's name, because that's easy to hack. A behavioral biometrics company did some research and says the answer to finding a secure password is naming your pet a weird name, something incredibly unique after you do some research of your own. If your password is Max7$, after your cat, you aren't alone, but you are putting yourself at risk of identify theft and other cyber crimes. Listen Now Switzerland Enacts Landmark Legislation for Animals Switzerland is a fairly small country, but it stills boasts an estimated seven million pets living there, not including farm animals! The Swiss have a long history of improving the working and living conditions for animals including landmark legislation in 1992 when it became the first country to include animal rights in their constitution. Does your dog ever initiate scrapes or scuffles with another dog? All of a sudden, they are at each other. You may not know what started it, if someone is getting hurt or not, and the human owners watching nearby are screaming, and yelling sometimes louder than the dogs. No injuries may result, but it’s still upsetting when this occurs. Even if we don’t think there was any provocation, there are reasons your dog can become physically assertive or aggressive that we may not understand simply because we do not have canine minds. My dog, Rosy acted out three times in the last few days. I do know, the two things that trigger her to go on the offensive with other dogs, one is normal adult canine behavior, the other is a weird quirk. I know how to manage them, yet sometimes it gets away from me. This happened recently and I was distressed. I’ll tell you why in my story. (These things can also boost morale) * The future of animal sheltering is going to be about supporting the human animal bond and keeping families together. If you are looking to do a mix of creating your own organic content and then doing paid content, only ever pay for content that organically works well. Release it first, organically through your channel, and see if it starts to actually have organic engagement from it. Going back to what works on social. The most engaging videos are under a minute on every platform. When we think of adopting a pet from an animal shelter, we think of doing good by rescuing a stray animal, but we don't realize how we are actually rescuing ourselves. Today's guests tell stories of mutual rescues. Purple Heart veteran Josh Marino shares how his life was changed forever by the love of a stray kitten. Wounded in Iraq when an explosive detonated, he suffered concussions that led to constant headaches, anxiety, depression, and PTSD. Josh reached the point where he decided to end his life. As he sat outside his barracks in the rain, he heard a cry from the bushes and found a tiny cat looking up at him. Wounded in Iraq when an explosive detonated, he suffered concussions that led to constant headaches, anxiety, depression, and PTSD. Josh reached the point where he decided to end his life. Mutual Rescue A young soldier left the battlefield in Baghdad with traumatic brain injuries and P.T.S.D. after a mortar attack. Right before he was to give up on life, a stray cat walked up to him, placed his paws on his leg and saved his life. Josh Marino is here to tell his story of Mutual Rescue. China Switches from One-Child to One-Dog Policy China may have scrapped its one-child policy, but one Chinese city (Qingdao) has now instituted a one-dog policy! Those who own more than one pooch will be required to surrender their furry friends to an adoption agency. Anyone who violates the rules will be fined the equivalent of $60 US dollars. Employers Offer Pet Insurance There is a new and fast-growing trend for employees being offered by generous companies. It's employer-sponsored benefit plans that insure the family pet, dogs, cats, ferrets, birds or potbellied pig against accidents and illness. Some 5,000 companies, including Microsoft, Yahoo, Xerox and Hewlett-Packard, now offer pet insurance. Don't Use Your Pet's Name As Password When it comes to choosing a password, hopefully you do NOT pick a pet's name, because that's easy to hack. A behavioral biometrics company did some research and says the answer to finding a secure password is naming your pet a weird name, something incredibly unique after you do some research of your own. If your password is Max7$, after your cat, you aren't alone, but you are putting yourself at risk of identify theft and other cyber crimes. Switzerland Enacts Landmark Legislation for Animals Switzerland is a fairly small country, but it stills boasts an estimated seven million pets living there, not including farm animals! The Swiss have a long history of improving the working and living conditions for animals including landmark legislation in 1992 when it became the first country to include animal rights in their constitution.
