POPULARITY
Val Kilmer was one of the most eclectic and enthralling actors of his generation and one of the movies that heavily showcased this is this week's movie, “The Salton Sea.” Kilmer showed he could be wacky, like in “Top Secret!” and “Real Genius” or deadly serious like in “Spartan” and “The Doors.” In “The Salton Sea” he sort of combines those two and it makes for an entertaining and captivating performance. If you want a movie that leads you down one path, en route to setting an expectation, just to subvert it, and does it multiple times, “The Salton Sea” just might be for you. Kilmer plays Danny Parker, a trumpet player, who has a faithful marriage to a beautiful wife until that all comes to an end. Afterwards, his life becomes a drug-filled downward spiral as he joins the perpetual night party of the tweaker to cope, or is that why he's really doing it? We don't know. He's also a confidential informant for a couple of L.A. detectives who want him to set up a maniacally, murderous drug dealer named Pooh Bear. This is a drug dealer known for killing people suddenly just because he doesn't like the tone of their voice. Also, Danny is told that he's been marked for death for something he didn't do, so things went from beautiful and romantic to pitiful and manic really quick. Is Danny Parker for real, or is he someone else? Will he survive the vortex of violence he finds himself in? Is it worth finding out in this lesser known Val Kilmer movie? Check out my spoiler-free review on this episode to find out! “The Salton Sea” also stars Vincent D'Onofrio, Adam Goldberg, Luiz Guzman, Doug Hutchison, Anthony LaPaglia, Glenn Plummer, Peter Sarsgaard, Deborah Kara Unger, Chandra West, BD Wong, R. Lee Ermey, Shalom Harlow, Sherry Knight, Meat Loaf, Azura Skye, Josh Todd and Danny Trejo. Another day another pile of executive orders from President Trump. In an effort to protect America's critical steel and aluminum industries, President Trump announced a 25% tariff on imported steel and aluminum. The president announced a deadline for Hamas, all hostages to be returned by 12 o'clock Saturday or all hell will break loose. The king of Jordan, Abdullah II is meeting with President Trump today in hopes that Jordan will receive refugees from Palestine. Kash Patel will hopefully be confirmed this Thursday but the New York Times and Leftists are not happy. New York Times writers Charlie Savage and Adam Goldberg wrote a hit piece on Patel, failing to admit he was right about the Russian hoax known as the Steele Dossier during Hillary Clinton's campaign. This hoax created all kinds of interference in Trump's first presidency and Kash Patel effectively investigated it concluding it was completely false. The problem is that the FBI used the dossier as a way to investigate a Trump staffer to try and bring his campaign and presidency down, which is exactly why we need Kash as the director of the FBI. Avoid those paddles and fry like bacon you little freshman piggies as we trip on a bit of 1990s nostalgia for the 1970s in Rochard Linklater's Dazed and Confused. Has institutional child endangerment on this level ever actually existed? Why is Milla Jovovich so tragically underused? How does Matthew McConaughey manage to make a total creeper still somehow charming? And is Rory Cochran the ultimate acting chameleon? All we know is that what some of us love about this movie is that we keep getting older, and it stays the same age.

Russell Crowe is back again with his clerical collar fighting demons! A little over a year after The Pope's Exorcist (2023) was released, a new movie called The Exorcism has been released directed by Joshua John Miller. Joshua John Miller is the son of Jason Miller who played Father Damien Karras in the 1973 horror film The Exorcist! Joshua John Miller was also a child actor who starred in movies like River's Edge, Near Dark, Class of 1999, and Teen Witch. In his directorial debut The Exorcism (2024), Joshua John Miller directs Russell Crowe as Anthony Miller, an actor with a deteriorating mental state who melts down as he's working on an exorcism horror movie. The film also stars Ryan Simpkins, Sam Worthington, Chloe Bailey, Adam Goldberg, Adrian Pasdar, and David Hyde Pierce. Will it live up to the dizzying heights of The Pope's Exorcist? We will let you know!

Deadpool & Wolverine is a win on so many levels. Fan service is absolutely unmatched, Hugh Jackman returns to the MCU for the foreseeable future, and the film absolutely wonderful moments. It's part two of our coverage of The Exorcism and this week we are graced with the great Adam Goldberg. Along with his work in The Exorcism, Adam talks about the greatly missed, The Hebrew Hammer.
Synopsis The Exorcism is about Farther Gabriel Amorth played by Russel Crowe, who…wait no sorry that's the popes exorcist I keep getting confused. The exorcism is really about Anthony or Tony played by Russel Crowe who is a washed up actor who tries out for a leading role in an upcoming exorcism movie while attempting to overcome his serious drinking problem. With the loss of his wife, Tony sends his teenage daughter Lee to a catholic boarding school, but when she is kicked out for in her words “protesting” but in the words of the law “vandalism”, she returns home and the reunion is tense. When Tony lands the role as the exorcist in this new emotional drama in the format of a horror movie weird things start happening on and off set. Will Tony survive the making of this movie? Will his family survive his alcoholism? Will Russel Crowe be in another exorcism movie next year? Whose to say. Review of The Exorcism My review for the exorcism is that it is pretty much exactly what I expected it to be. Its a catholic horror movie about a demon who needs to be exorcised. The scares aren't that interesting, and some of the jump scares are so loud and quickly cut that I literally didn't even know what happening. It was just startling and gave me zero information about what was actually going on in the film. Russel Crowes acting was actually pretty good in my opinion, but I think his voice is so deep and gravelly that it could be that I just enjoyed listening to him talk. The other star of the movie for me was the director played by Adam Goldberg who delivers both the funniest lines in the movie and the most emotionally brutal lines. The rest of the cast is kind of whatever to me. My favorite part of the movie was how it demonstrated the exploitation of trauma in the film industry which was pretty sad to watch. My least favorite parts were anything dealing with the demon cause I didn't even really get what was happening or why. Maybe this really was a drama cloaked as a horror movie after all. Score 4/10

However, as Lee becomes increasingly suspicious about her father's behaviour, she begins to unravel a sinister secret that threatens Anthony's life—and the lives of those around him. In this 1on1, we speak to star Russell Goldberg about the power of forgiveness & the magic of Rusell Crowe.
Freddy had the pleasure of talking with Joshua John Miller, the director of The Exorcism, and Mark Fortin, the writer. They both talked about their life struggles growing up, what got them into horror, the filmmaking process, and so much more. It was a very thoughtful and insightful conversation. We talked about some dark stuff but laughed a ton. It's a wild conversation. It's a beautiful film that many people will connect with, and it is worth checking out. The Exorcism is out in theaters on June 21st! Synopsis: Academy Award-winner Russell Crowe stars as Anthony Miller, a troubled actor who begins to unravel while shooting a supernatural horror film. fWotD Episode 2589: Saving Private Ryan Welcome to featured Wiki of the Day where we read the summary of the featured Wikipedia article every day.The featured article for Thursday, 6 June 2024 is Saving Private Ryan.Saving Private Ryan is a 1998 American epic war film directed by Steven Spielberg and written by Robert Rodat. Set in 1944 in France during World War II, it follows a group of soldiers, led by Captain John Miller (Tom Hanks), on their mission to locate Private James Francis Ryan (Matt Damon) and bring him home safely after his three brothers have been killed in action. The cast also includes Edward Burns, Tom Sizemore, Barry Pepper, Giovanni Ribisi, Vin Diesel, Adam Goldberg, and Jeremy Davies.Inspired by the books of Stephen E. Ambrose and accounts of casualties among members of a single family such as the Niland brothers, Rodat drafted the script and Paramount Pictures hired him to finish the writing. The project came to the attention of Hanks and Spielberg, whose previous successes secured the project's development. Spielberg wanted to make Saving Private Ryan as authentic as possible, and hired Frank Darabont and Scott Frank to perform uncredited rewrites based on research and interviews with veterans. The main cast went through a week-long boot camp to understand the soldier experience. Filming took place from June to September 1997, on a $65–$70 million budget, almost entirely on location in England and Ireland. The opening Omaha Beach battle was the most demanding scene, costing $12 million to film over four weeks with 1,500 extras.Saving Private Ryan became one of the year's most successful films, earning critical acclaim for its graphic portrayal of combat. WWII veterans described the combat scenes as the most realistic portrayal of their own experiences; some were unable to watch it due to their traumatic memories. The film earned $481.8 million, making it the second-highest-grossing film of 1998, and went on to win many accolades, including Golden Globe, Academy, BAFTA, and Saturn awards.Saving Private Ryan is considered one of the greatest films ever made. Its battle scene filming techniques impacted many subsequent war, action, and superhero films, and numerous directors have cited Saving Private Ryan as an influence. It is credited with helping renew interest in WWII at the turn of the century, inspiring other films, television shows, and video games set during the war. In 2014, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 01:04 UTC on Thursday, 6 June 2024.For the full current version of the article, see Saving Private Ryan on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm Joanna Standard.

Like many people Adam Goldberg started to bake during the COVID-19 pandemic. Goldberg specifically baked bagels, selling them to friends out the back window of his kitchen in Westport. That hobby turned into an idea that became PopUp Bagels. “Fast forward two or three years, he opened a store in Westport, opened another store in Greenwich, and then in the city, and it's really just exploded,” PopUp Bagels CFO Jamie Lissette told the CBIA BizCast. PopUp has achieved success quickly, thanks in part to social media. “It's just really organic, because people love the product. So it makes it really super easy.” Lissette discussed the company's Connecticut roots and plans for growth. “We only have five stores,” he said. “In the next six months, we'll add almost seven stores.” “We love Connecticut,” Lissette said, adding "We've got this great runway to really become nationwide with the concept.” PopUp Bagels website: https://www.popupbagels.com/
No one wanted to come back and watch the finale of The Muppets Mayhem with us. That doesn't mean anything, does it? It does. It means we lose our way into Two And A Half Men, The Fast And The Furious, directing extras, Morphine (the band), Snake Eyes (the G.I. Joe) and... Ernest P. Worrell? It also means this show is over and maybe that's not as much of a relief as you and all of our guests thought it would be.
Silver-plated Minecraft experts Chris Hayner and Harry Nelson have returned to The Muppets Mayhem to wonder if, in fact, there will ever be any Minecraft in this episode.
Hilary's son boils the Muppets down to their essential elements and they (and you and we) will never be the same.
Jordy Bogguss is here to break it to us that The Muppets Mayhem has tricked us, that it hasn't improved and that The Blues Brothers are not good at music.

Adam Goldberg has quite legitimately always been one of my favorite actors—and from Dazed & Confused, to the Fargo TV show, to A Beautiful Mind, he has always been EXCELLENTLY attired, right down to his boots. But he doesn't just play a person who cares about boots on TV and in movies! Adam is a very real-deal obsessive who's neck deep in Clinch, Zerrow's, and quite possibly too much more.In an episode that will surely open the floodgates to most-to-all of Hollywood coming on the Shoecast to confess their footwear compulsions, Adam and Ben discuss boots he wore in different roles—usually self-selected!—sings a lovely rendition of "Working My Way Back to Ropers", tells the twist-and-turn-filled tale of his decades-long quest to get James Dean's boots reproduced, and announces the "only"(ha!) pair of boots he wants, all while we attempt to figure out what the hell is wrong with us for loving this stuff so much. ______________________________________________________________________________________________This episode was sponsored by Nicks Boots—who turns 60 this year!Theme Song: The Road by Punk Rock Opera
Harry Nelson doesn't know these Muppets but he's with us anyway, mostly for super producer Zedd who is a real person playing himself and not an invention of this show we swear!
The Muppets have their own wing here at Single Season Record they are so good at getting canceled. We're starting with their most recent failure, the awkwardly and maybe misleadingly titled The Muppets Mayhem from 2023. It's on Disney+!

It's time to answer an age-old breakfast question…Who makes the best bagel? Adam Goldberg was working at a flood mitigation company when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, and instead of baking banana bread and whipping coffee, he decided to find the perfect bagel recipe. A few years later, the Popup Bagels Founder finds himself opening multiple locations across Manhattan and Connecticut, often with hundreds of hungry customers lining up at the door. Adam joins Liz to tell the story of how what began as a backyard pickup window business transformed into a celebrity-backed company and two-time winner of the “Best Overall Bagel” award at Brooklyn Bagel Fest.
