On this Holy Thursday, we begin studying Matt Lozano's book Free to Be Holy.  What is Holiness? The Hebrew word kadosh translates as “set apart, sacred, holy.”  This applied to items used in the temple vessels and nothing made holy could be returned to ordinary service. Proper ritual allowed outward participation, but not interior restoration. Through Jesus, God removes our hearts of stone and gives us hearts of flesh. There are fascinating parallels between the purposes of blood in the human body and the work of Jesus' blood upon our soul. Blood animates, heals, and reproduces. Holiness is a lifestyle of making oneself available to God. We limit holiness by continuing to earn God's favor yet“We can't be holy without Jesus,” writes Matt. What isn't holiness? False approaches to holiness include: performance, out-of-reach holiness, and having false standards. When we put something above Jesus, we inevitably fail and can fall prey to the enemy's traps of shame, self-hatred, or pride. Escaping our sense of inferiority means putting off self-justification and pressing into Jesus. Our relationship with Christ is what we need to rely on. The Pharisees were so focused on Jesus actions that they missed Him – the Savior right in front of them.Deepening our walk in holiness means being available to Jesus. It's not just about what we avoid but what and Whom we embrace.Find Matt's book Free to Be HolyUse code FREE2B for 20% off of Free to Be Holy  through the remainder of Holy Thursday, March 28.See our upcoming eventsJoin us for our April Freedom in Christ Conference near PhiladelphiaRelease: March 2024Music by Christian HarperArtwork by Rosemary StrohmProduction by  Jacqueline Harper

Grab a cuppa and enjoy some time with Jacqueline and Jenn as they continue our Lenten series, reflecting upon Jeremiah 31:31-34 where the word ‘covenant' is mentioned four times.Jeremiah, the weeping prophet, felt so sad about the condition of his people. Amidst Israel's failure, he offered hope – a promise that God would forgive all our sins and remember them no more.In the Old Covenant, people couldn't uphold their end of the things, so God made a new covenant – one people can keep.In the new covenant, everything is simplified. Jesus Himself is the new covenant, the law made flesh, offering the cup of His blood. Jesus walked the road to his death and resurrection and we also walk it in relationship with him.God writes His law on our hearts through the Holy Spirit. In the Old Covenant, the law was external, but now it's alive inside of us. Just like our beating hearts pump blood through our bodies, the Holy Spirit infuses us.How does God “remember our sin no more?” When God looks at us, He sees His son. He is already seeing what's going to happen through His son. The criteria for the new covenant is not circumcision or the law, it was relationship with God through Jesus by declaring that Jesus is Lord.Hear Jacqueline's story of her progression of faith in college and listen to Jenn as she closes with Joel 2:12-13 where we are exhorted to return to God with our whole heart.Find Matt's book Free to Be HolyUse code FREE2B for 20% off of Free to Be Holy  through Holy Thursday, March 28.See our upcoming eventsJoin us for our April Freedom in Christ Conference near PhiladelphiaRelease: March 2024Music by Christian HarperArtwork by Rosemary StrohmProduction by Jacqueline Harper

What a treat to hear Matt and Jenn Lozano together for Week Four of our Lenten series as they cover the story in John 9 about Jesus' healing a man born blind!Jesus makes room in His day to heal this man and he does the same for us!During Lent, we consider the darkness and undergo self-reflection. Why is there so much brokenness in the world? We join the disciples in asking Jesus why bad things happen. In the Scriptures, the Torah conveys the idea of divine retribution, but then we see righteous Job questioning God about suffering. God's answer to Job, coupled with Jesus' reply to the disciples in John 9 shows that suffering allows the works God to be made visible. “That's the why,” says Matt. We all are blind and Jesus is doing something in time that gives us sight.God created light on the first day but brings salvation on the seventh day – the day of rest. Jesus proclaims His kingdom on the Sabbath by doing things like restoring sight to the blind and casting out demons.Just as the blind man received mud on his eyes and obediently went to the pool of Siloam, we each can be touched by Jesus and we too can participate in our own healing. Learn what the word “Siloam” means and how that applies to each of us!At Lent we live in the darkness, knowing that sight is coming. Reflecting on John 11:17-44, Matt Lozano is joined in this episode by Nick Jorgenson from Acts XXIX Ministries. "So they took away the stone. Then Jesus looked up and said, 'Father, I thank you that you have heard me. I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing here, that they may believe that you sent me.'" John 11:41-42 NIV.Jesus is God speaking human. He chooses to speak with us through the humanity of His Son, Jesus Christ. Like the tomb of Lazarus, we have parts of ourselves that we shrink away from, things in our life that we want to hide from Jesus. But it is in our darkest place, our vulnerable moments, that the Gospel holds the most truth. As He did for Lazarus, He longs to  call your name. In calling YOUR name from YOUR tomb,  He's saying that He knows you. He knows all of you. He desires you.  He desires ALL of you.  He says,  "Dead man come out!" We all have access to the Father. God always hears us! He rejoices in our triumphs and weeps for our sorrows. What is the Good News for you today? As we continue these beautiful Lenten reflections on the Gospel readings, join Jacqueline and Ann in today's podcast on John 9:1-41, the story of the man born blind. What does it mean to be seen? How does it feel to be known? What can we learn from this story of Jesus seeing and knowing and healing the man born blind?Like the disciples, our first response to a problem is often with a "fix-it" mentality -- what did I do wrong, and how can I make it right? If we focus on what we see on the surface, we miss out on understanding the truth. Where is God when we face trials? How does He reveal Himself to us and make Himself known? How deeply do we understand that we are known by Him?From understanding comes healing. Listen to the word of God and our reflection on the story of the man born blind. What is the Lord's invitation for you to respond to him today? Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, and when He found him, He said, "Do you believe in the Son of Man?""Who is he, sir?" the man asked. "Tell me so that I may believe in him." Jesus said, "You have now seen Him; in fact, He is the one speaking with you."Then the man said, "Lord, I believe," and he worshipped Him. Jesus said, "For judgment I have come into this world, so that they blind will see and those who see will become blind." (John 9:35-39 NIV)Find our Freedom in Christ TalksExplore our ecoursesVisit our websiteCome to one of our  upcoming eventsJoin our mission and donate today!Check out Unboound and find other resourcesFind an Unbound team near youLike us on FacebookFollow us on InstagramExplore with us on TwitterRelease: March 2023Music by Christian Harper. Artwork by Rosemary Strohm at Command-S

In today's episode, Rachel and Neal reflect on Jesus' encounter with the Samaritan woman at the well, found in John 4:5-42. A beautiful story of conversion, this passage illustrates the intentionality of Jesus when He encounters the Samaritan woman and the same intentionality He has for each of us. He knows our hearts and is always waiting for our response, just as He waited and revealed Himself to the truth-seeking heart of the Samaritan woman. This passage is read in the middle of Lent, a sacred time of preparation for the renewal of internal faith through external practices. Fasting, almsgiving, and prayer are powerful reflections of our internal conversions and gratitude for what the Lord has given us. These things are fulfilled with a deep connection to Jesus, with a heart in pursuit of God. What is going on in your life as you listen today? What are you experiencing?Through suffering and triumphs, Jesus sits at the well and awaits your engagement to reveal the Love of the Father. Find the Woman at the Well scene from the ChosenVisit our website Come to one of our  upcoming eventsJoin our mission and donate today!Check out Unboound and find other resourcesFind an Unbound team near youLike us on FacebookFollow us on InstagramExplore with us on Twitter

During the next few weeks, we're going to  be reflecting on the Lenten gospel passages and having some special guests as well, so that we can really prepare ourselves for this season.Today though, we want to do something a little different. Recently, all of us at Heart of the Father Ministries were shocked and saddened by the news of the tragic death of Bishop David O'Connell, an Auxiliary Bishop in the Diocese of Los Angeles. Bishop Dave was a servant of the poor, the immigrant, and the marginalized. He spent most of his priesthood loving the people in the city of Los Angeles. He had a tremendous sense of humor and  a warmth for everyone he met. Bishop Dave was a friend of ours and an enthusiastic supporter of Unbound. He hosted two Unbound priest retreats in his diocese, and he never hesitated to share his testimony about how he experienced freedom when a friend ministered to him using the Five Keys.So in this episode, we share with you a beautiful interview  Father Boniface Hicks OSB did with Bishop Dave in 2017 on WAOB Radio. Bishop Dave tells his story of freedom and  talks about the great need people have for deliverance in their lives. We know you'll be blessed to hear Bishop Dave, and we just want to honor and thank God for his life.Well done. Good and faithful servant David O'Connell.Thank you Fr. Boniface Hicks, OSB. How would you describe yourself?Wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, writer, coach. When I first started showing my face on Instagram a few years ago, they're the words I usedIt felt true at the time - and seemed the best way to explain the breadth of me, not too tightly defined and seemed to go some way to expressing the importance of my wider life. Because in the past I would have likely described myself primarily by my job - so this felt like a big step forward.But. Now I'm much less certain about using terms like this - not that there's anything UNtrue about them but rather choosing curiosity about what I am attaching myself to.And it's led me to explore this idea of SELF and IDENTITY more fully. How do we identify our SELF - or rather, WHAT do we identify WITH in order to define who we ARE?This is a BIG and very JUICY topic. And, as ever, deserves our most compassionate awareness as we explore it. I would love to hear your thoughts. In the podcast I share some of the background to this year's Practical Compassion Retreats. Four retreats, held on-line on Saturday mornings across the year. I wanted to interview today's guest for quite some time.Nigel Phan is the founder of Whirli - a toy subscription service. My family is expecting our second daughter and all the clichés about parenthood are true: it changes your perspective on everything. One thing that changes most dramatically is the number of toys around the house- I am terrified that child number 2 could lead to a doubling of the toy rate.  That's where Whirli comes in. When a child loses interest in a toy (which believe me can happen with surprising regularity) you can return it and swap it for a new one. Whirli have raised a round of £5 million from this series' headline sponsors, The Octopus Group. The Octopus Group is a collection of 8 entrepreneurially minded businesses that look to back the people, ideas and industries that will change the world. If you want to check out Whirli you can get a 30% discount by visiting https://whirli.com/offers/jimmysjobs or using referral code JIMMYSJOBS at the checkout. We're not taking any commission from this link, we're just using it to test how many of you amazing listeners click through. In this episode with Nigel we discuss:Where he came up with the idea for Whirli despite not being a parentWhere the name Whirli came fromHis career, including time as a partner at McKinseyWhat did he hire his first employee to do?How he chooses what toys go on the platformHow Whirli focuses on at-home educationHow parents can use the Whirli subscriptionWhat jobs he is hiring for (didn't we all want to work in a toy shop when we were younger?)The most popular toys on the platform (not what you might expect)How he approaches marketing to parents and building trust digitallyWhy he is hiring for a Head of People and what that meansWhat the toys of the future are going to beWhat adults can learn from playing with children's toysLetting toys be toys- removing the gender bias that is prevalent in the industryHis favourite toy of all timeFuture plans for Whirli including the plans for experiential eventsJoin the #SaveDerby campaign by using this template to email your MP and raise the issue with them- we've generated amazing support and have even had a question asked in parliament. Even if you're a casual football fan, local teams are the lifeblood of UK towns and it would be a travesty to let one of the oldest clubs in the UK fall into the history books. If you'd like to see more information about the job roles being offered please look at my Twitter @jimmym
