Fields og The Honeymoon).
Paul McCartney is a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer whose career spans more than six decades. As a member of The Beatles and later Wings and then with his own solo albums, he's simply one of the most influential artists of all time. He has more accolades than I have time to list in this intro. But if you're listening to this, you already know all that. In May 2026, he released his twentieth solo album, The Boys of Dungeon Lane. He co-produced it with Andrew Watt, who won the 2021 Grammy for Producer of the Year, and whose credits include working with Lady Gaga, The Rolling Stones, Justin Bieber, and Elton John. For this episode, I spoke to Paul McCartney about how he wrote and recorded his song "Ripples in a Pond." For more info, visit songexploder.net/paul-mccartney.
Boys of Dungeon Lane, McCartney's collaboration with producer Andrew Watt, arrived when McCartney was 83 and and he came out swinging: the opening track greets listeners with a dissonant, unresolved guitar chord that sets the album's tone. Harmonic instability runs through the entire record: chromatic mediants, deceptive cadences, and persistent pedal tones prevent even the most nostalgic songs from settling into comfort. The album's lyrics focus on McCartney's pre-Beatles Liverpool youth, territory unfamiliar even to long-time fans. The songs pay deliberate sonic tribute to specific Beatles recordings: Mellotron strings echoing "Strawberry Fields Forever," a backwards laugh tape loop answering "Tomorrow Never Knows," a first-ever McCartney/Starr vocal duet so close in timbre the two voices are nearly indistinguishable. For over 50 years, Saturday Night Live has been one of the most Important shows for rock music in the history of the nascent television medium. While, arguably, the most famous moment in the show's history (and Tony's favorite?) is RHCP's multi-key 1992 version of “Under The Bridge”, there have been others. (Musical Guest The Ting Tings ripping up a photo of Colonel Sanders comes to mind.) Fortunately, just in time for NBC's never more relevant, May sweeps season finale of SNL, they pulled in the big guns: RHCP! Oh s**t, Frusciante and Kiedis (LLC) are busy? Maybe (checks notes) Chad Smith is free? Might as well bring in noted Chad Smith lookalike Will Ferrel (“Elf”, Capitol One) to teach Chad how to host the show! Everyone knows Chad Smith's best friend is Paul McCartney. So Chad called Sir Paul to see if he'd learn the bass part for the AI generated RHCP songs “Funky California Space Cadet” and “Santa Monica Ding-Dong”, as onetime Macca drummer Chris Whitten beat Flea's ass in Hamburg. Where you ask? Why, under the bridge. When asked for comment, Flea replied, I don't ever wanna feel, like when Chris Whitten kicked my ass.” Later that week, as longtime Macca drummer Abe Laboriel JR was (Alonzo) mourning young mister Christopher's legal predicament and unable to travel, Chad Smith had an idea. He could play in Paul's band! On SNL! The very talented singer songwriter Ingrid Michaelson can even sing back-up, and perhaps even “Cook Of The House”! And Paul could completely ignore any lame Beatles music during the live, 90 minute broadcast, because nobody wants to hear that junk! (#Motorcars #Handlebars) Are you still with us? Da f is wrong with you? You already know Tony & T.J. will talk Macca's historic SNL performance and also hit you up with such mind benders as:

The Stones just announced a new album that will be out on July 10th. FOREIGN TONGUES will have 14 tracks, with producer Andrew Watt returning to co-produce the album with The Glimmer Twins. Here's the full rundown on the album!
eTail Palm Springs is one of the most important events on the e-commerce calendar. As one of the most anticipated events in the e-commerce calendar, eTail brings together senior retail leaders, DTC brands, and digital innovators to explore the evolving future of online and omnichannel retail. Every year, the event draws a powerful mix of founders, marketers, technology providers, and retail operators — all under one roof in the California desert.Isaac Morey, Co-Founder of Content Cucumber, was on the ground at eTail Palm Springs this year recording conversations for the Talk Commerce podcast. The result? A compilation video packed with some of his favorite interviews from across the show floor. Each one is a quick snapshot of the people, ideas, and energy that make eTail such a standout event. Here's a look at every clip in the compilation.0:40 Scott Ohsman, Always Off Brand5:38 Elizabethe Lachhar, RezolveAI10:57 Amrit Shergill, ShopVision14:21 Udayan Bose, NetElixer16:27 Andrew Watt, MAI18:17 Patrick Yoon, CHEQScott Ohsman, Always Off Brand: AI Is Moving Past the HypeScott Ohsman kicked things off with signature energy and a sharp take on where AI in e-commerce really stands. He argues that AI is finally moving from buzzword to tactical tool — but warns that a "blister" correction is coming, and that mediocre brands relying on AI as a crutch will be the first to get flushed out.D2C Brands Are About to Have a MomentIn the same conversation, Scott made the case that D2C brands are quietly positioned for a traffic windfall thanks to LLM-driven search sending users directly to brand websites. It's unpaid traffic, and the brands doing solid foundational work will benefit most. The Vibes at eTail Are UnmatchedScott closed with a love letter to the eTail experience itself — the Palm Springs sunshine, the resort setting, and the surprisingly positive energy on the exhibitor floor. According to Scott, even the vendors are in a good mood here, and that says a lot.Elizabeth Lachhar, Rezolve AI: The Case for Agentic CommerceElizabeth Lechhar from Rezolve AI broke down what agentic commerce actually means and why it matters right now. With Generation Alpha bringing five trillion dollars in buying power online in the next few years, the traditional e-commerce funnel is reaching end of life — and brands need to prepare for a conversational, hyper-personalized future.Shopping Will Become a 360° ExperienceElizabeth painted a picture of what the near future of shopping looks like: not just searching for a blazer, but asking an AI what to wear in Palm Springs, what goes with it, and whether you can still wear it to lunch. Commerce is becoming circular and lifestyle-driven, not linear.Get Your Data Ready NowIn her closing remarks, Elizabeth urged retailers to start preparing their data infrastructure for the agentic future. From multi-dimensional search to automated payments, the entire commerce stack is about to change — and Resolve AI is building the end-to-end platform to support that shift.Amrit Shergill, ShopVision: Why Retros Shouldn't Be AnecdotalAmrit Shergill of ShopVision explained how most brands rely on fragmented, anecdotal data when looking back at key campaigns like Black Friday. His company captures every digital touchpoint across competitors and reseller channels, turning guesswork into clarity and predictive insights.Pricing Intelligence: Finding White Space in the MarketAmrit dove deeper into a specific pain point he's hearing at eTail: pricing challenges. Brands with large wholesale networks are missing margin and product-line opportunities because they can't see how competitors are pricing similar products. His platform matches products across brands and surfaces the white space.Udayan Bose, NetElixir: $30 Million in Revenue Driven by ExperimentationNetElixir's founder, Udayan Bose shared that their machine-learning-powered experimentation platform has driven roughly $30 million in cumulative additional revenue across 250 experiments in the past year. The message is clear: performance AI — the kind that drives measurable outcomes — is the next frontier every e-commerce brand should pursue.NetElixir: AI Is Moving from Buzz to ActionUdayan also noted a shift in the eTail conversations this year: people aren't just talking about AI anymore — they're asking whether it actually drives results. NetElixir's high Net Promoter Score (84.4, double the industry average) backs up their claim that human expertise combined with AI delivers exceptional performance.Andrew Watt, MAI: Agentic AI for Google Ads ManagementThe team at MAI founded by former Google Ads and Instacart ad platform engineers introduced their agentic AI for paid media. Their platform plugs into Google Ads, Google Analytics, and Shopify, then autonomously builds and manages campaigns — taking over work that used to require agencies or in-house teams. They're expanding to Bing and Meta next.Patrick Yoon, CHEQ: Client-Side Detection: Cleaning Up Invalid TrafficPatrick explained how their client-side pixel unlocks intelligence retailers have never had access to before — from reducing paid media ad waste by up to 70% to identifying which bots on your site are malicious and which are actually acting on behalf of real consumers through LLMs.The AI-Bot Hybrid Future of Retail WebsitesIn a deeper dive, Patrick shared that Gartner predicts one in five interactions on retail websites will involve an LLM by 2028. The takeaway: you can't just block all automation anymore. Retailers need nuanced intelligence to distinguish between helpful AI agents and bad actors, and that distinction will directly impact ROI.

Send in your music story!A blizzard outside, a firestorm in music. We start with the easy stuff—laughs, life updates, and a nostalgia trip through 2000s anthems—then dive straight into the friction points shaping live music right now: dynamic ticket pricing, runaway fees, and why mid-level artists can't afford to tour while mega-acts sell out arenas. It's Grammys week, but the real story sits underneath the trophies. We unpack a headline-heavy slate: tours from Queens of the Stone Age and Zayn Malik, a tragic breaking loss in the community, and a ceremony that crowned Bad Bunny and Kendrick Lamar while Post Malone led a surging Ozzie tribute with Slash, Chad Smith, Duff McKagan, and Andrew Watt. On the red carpet, the tone trended surprisingly classic—Lady Gaga and Sabrina Carpenter kept it timeless—punctuated by a single shock piece that lit up the timeline. Performances got the microscope from us too: what landed, what missed, and how televised moments dovetail with marketing cycles like a Super Bowl halftime. Then we tackle the question that won't die: should artists speak on politics? Jelly Roll's refusal to weigh in sparked backlash, and we push back on the expectation that entertainers must campaign. Autonomy matters—for artists and for fans. We talk about separating art from the artist, when lines get crossed, and how to “vote” with your wallet without letting parasocial noise make your choices. It's a candid, sometimes uncomfortable, always honest conversation about taste, ethics, and the business machine behind the music we love.To end on a note that's ours, we host the HB Guest Grammys. Fan Favorite goes to TX2 for the interview that lit our early charts. Best Album shout goes to Keep Flying's Time and Tide, with love to Snacktime for pure fun. “Realest” guest turns into a heartfelt debate—Forest Day, Scott Blasey, and Ralph Sutton each get flowers—because the best part of this show is still the people behind the songs. If this hit your feed just right, follow, subscribe, and drop a review. Krystina opens the Cookie Jar with a bombshell, this Sunday's Grammys will feature Post Malone, Slash, Duff McKagan, Chad Smith, and producer Andrew Watt teaming up for a supercharged Ozzy homage. Naturally, Skin immediately points out that Chad Smith appears at every tribute like a drumming version of the Avengers — and yes, he still looks exactly like Will Ferrell.
Welcome to your daily comedy podcast, where absolutely nothing makes sense and we like it that way.Today's show kicks off with a story that nobody asked for but everyone will remember forever: a 73-year-old former born-again Christian reinventing herself as an escort named Busty Granny. She spent decades in prayer and celibacy, then hit 57, downloaded the internet, and said “oh… THIS is what we've been missing.” Now she's got clients young enough to still have homework and zero interest in OnlyFans because, quote, that sounds boring. Inspirational? Traumatizing? Both. Then we get into the most depressing career math of all time: a woman casually sings seven words into her phone for a Dr Pepper jingle and walks away with $2 million, while the rest of us are out here working full-time jobs and eating gas-station sandwiches. Naturally, this leads to the crew trying to invent jingles for every brand that will absolutely never call back.Somehow that spirals into one of the most fun debates we've had in a while — the biggest debut albums of all time. We're talking massive numbers, MTV miracles, and how one 4am spin turned a “failed” album into a 50-million-copy monster. Along the way we argue, forget basic facts, remember them loudly, and realize radio used to be way more powerful than TikTok will ever admit.Movies get dragged (respectfully… mostly), Brendan Fraser gets the comeback love he deserves, and we debate whether seeing a movie in a theater automatically adds two letter grades just because popcorn exists. In Crap on Celebrities, we hit everything from band lawsuits and surprise documentaries to tour dropouts, concert ticket chaos, and some genuinely heartbreaking but honest conversations about aging, memory, and how terrifying it is to not know what's happening inside your own brain. We also celebrate birthdays, overshare existential dread, and somehow end the show discussing a literal geyser of poop water blasting into the Potomac River — because if we're going to spiral, we're doing it together. It's another daily comedy podcast episode packed with weird news, pop culture, dark laughs, and moments where we all pause and go, “Wait… are we okay?”Spoiler: probably not. But at least we're funny.MUSICMotley Crue has officially won its heated legal battle against former guitarist Mick Mars. Lainey Wilson sure has kept herself busy. It was just announced that Netflix has officially acquired the new documentary "Lainey Wilson: Keepin' Country Cool". It drops on April 22nd. Two more artists have dropped out of the 2026 Rock the Country Festival. Morgan Wade and Carter Faith are no longer part of the lineup. And neither artist has shared an official reason for stepping away. Their exit comes just days after Ludacris also dropped out. His team called his original booking a "mix-up." The festival is headlined by Kid Rock and will feature Jason Aldean, Jelly Roll, Miranda Lambert, and more.In other Kid Rock News – he went to Congress to confront an issue we're all united on: How much Ticketmaster and Live Nation charge for shows. Quick Hits:Post Malone, Andrew Watt, Chad Smith, Duff McKagan, and Slash will perform a special tribute to Ozzy Osbourne during the Grammys on Sunday night.Jack White posted a video showing off the next Third Man Vault package, Jimi Hendrix's Valley of the Jams 1969-1970. Check it out on Instagram.Tom Morello and Rise Against will headline A Concert of Solidarity & Resistance to Defend Minnesota Friday at noon at First Avenue in Minneapolis. TVThe fourth season of Ted Lasso is set to debut this summer. Stephen Colbert announced on "Late Night With Seth Meyers" that the final episode of "The Late Show" will air on Thursday, May 21. MOVING ON INTO MOVIE NEWS:Matthew Lillard recently caught a stray from Quentin Tarantino when he said he didn't care for him. But that resulted in an outpouring of love that made Matthew feel like he was living through his own wake. Actress and producer Patricia Schneider has filed for divorce from Rob Schneider, describing their 15-year marriage as "irretrievably broken" with no chance of reconciliation. Bill Cosby has admitted under oath that he obtained prescriptions for Quaaludes specifically to give to women. Bruce Willis' wife, Emma says Bruce is unaware of his frontotemporal dementia diagnosis.AND FINALLYHere are five of the BEST:1. Jack Black: "I was begging my boss for an extra shift, he overheard and tipped me $100 on a $20ish tab. From then on, he never left me less than a $50 tip and would always check in with me when it was the end of the month to make sure I had rent cash."2. Harrison Ford: "My uncle said that he's incredibly nice and took the whole crew out for lunch to thank them for working on his helicopter."3. Justin Bieber: "He was by himself at a mall, and he wasn't trying to be incognito . . . He drew me in with a big hug and chatted me up. He was lovely."4. John Travolta: "The guy is totally down to earth . . . He is also someone who asks a lot of questions and is actually interested in what you have to say."5. Dolly Parton: "Can confirm that she's just as great as you'd assume. She was just so nice to everyone. She was a lot smaller than I expected."Here are five of the WORST:1. Jennifer Lopez: "She was super rude and dismissive . . . and had this attitude that she was better than you."2. Jenna Fischer from "The Office": "[She] was really difficult to work with. Just really demanding."3. Jared Leto: "[He's] a narcissistic [A-hole]. He complains about every single thing and really enjoys being difficult. I think he does it for fun."4. Diana Ross: "[She] cut in front of me at the airport check-in counter once . . . I was flabbergasted by this lady who had the guts to sweep in front of us AND touch the gate agent's computer."5. John Cusack: "Outside of a restaurant: 'Hey, Mr. Cusack, I like your movies.' . . . 'I don't care.'"AND THAT IS YOUR CRAP ON CELEBRITIES! Lady Gaga is a singer, songwriter, producer, and actress from New York. She's one of the biggest artists in the world. She's also won 14 Grammys, 2 Golden Globes, and an Oscar. And in March 2025, she released her sixth album, Mayhem. For this episode, I talked to her about a song from that album called “Abracadabra.” She co-wrote it and co-produced it with Andrew Watt and Cirkut, and they recorded it in Rick Rubin's studio, Shangri-La. That's also where we recorded the interview for this episode. For more info, visit songexploder.net/lady-gaga.

Keith Montena returns this week to break down MAYHEM, Lady Gaga's seventh studio album, and the sonic landscape that defines it. From the rollout to the creative choices, how does MAYHEM actually stack up? Find out how Garden of Eden taps into Gaga's earliest songwriting roots, Perfect Celebrity almost took the album in an entirely different direction, and all collaborators on deck. Plus, how do the ‘80s influences fit into today's pop landscape, and did the marketing set listeners up for something completely different? In just under 40 minutes, Vinyl Drop unpacks "MAYHEM" during release week.

The boys build a blast furnace then betray the American dream, make ham-fisted metaphors about hellish factory labor, and use the scientific method to conduct an autopsy on the corpse of Bruce Springsteen's 1995 working-class lament, “Youngstown.” News items and digressions include Andrew Watt, The Rolling Stones, and elderly Grammy recognition.

This week we're breaking down "Abracadabra" by Lady Gaga, the second (technically third) single from MAYHEM. After premiering during The 2025 Grammys, the track has signaled a leap for and already sparked major conversation. We're getting into key creatives and collaborators who worked on the song and video, and the team behind it. What is Abracadabra, song and video, about? From the sonic direction to critics' reception, I'm diving deep into where this track sits in Gaga's discography and why it feels like one of her most defining releases in years. Plus, I'll be discussing claims of her mirroring too much from previous hits. Vinyl Drop covers pop music with an emphasis on new releases, the artists' creative process, collaborators, and their marketing strategy. What do you think of "Abracadabra"? Where does it rank for you? And what should we break down next?
Keith Montena is back this week breaking down "Disease" by Lady Gaga, the first taste of the singer's upcoming seventh album. After "Die With A Smile" with Bruno Mars and Joker: Folie á Duex, Lady Gaga returns with the biggest changes to her creative team in nearly 15 years, and an album modeling after dark soundscapes similar to Born This Way. Notably far from 2020's Chromatica. Vinyl Drop discusses pop music with an emphasis on new releases, the artists' creative process, collaborators, and their marketing strategy. I want to hear from you - do you like "Disease"? Did you like the rollout? What should be discussed next?
This week we respectfully welcome back to the show Slamfest Podcast host: Mad Brad Rusthoven. He has called us out on a grave mistake of not having played Black Country Communion on any of our recent New Wave Of Classic Rock episodes. Therefore, we give you “Grave Mistakes: BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION Shoulda Been Huge”… scratch that: Should BE Huge!!! Celebrate this amazing supergroup with us. Apologies for a little hiss and background noise in the episode (our crack staff must have been smoking crack again). This episode is rooted in our Should Have Been category. This is a band that we mentioned before on the show and played an offshoot band from them. They contain some household names in classic blues and rock and have a hell of a pedigree, but unfortunately, their brilliance has yet to be recognized to the degree that it truly deserves. This is the bastard child of Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin for the love of Lemmy! We think they SHOULD BE HUGE… Songs this week include:Black Country Communion - “Beggarman” from Black Country Communion (2010)Black Country Communion - “The Outsider” from 2 (2011)Black Country Communion - “The Great Divide” from Live Over Europe (2012)Black Country Communion - “Midnight Sun” from Afterglow (2012)Black Country Communion - “Sway” from BCCIV (2017)Black Country Communion - “Stay Free” from V (2024)Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://twitter.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!: https://www.redbubble.com/people/InObscuria?asc=uCheck out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/If you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/
Episode 54 - Jason White is one of the greatest choir directors, vocal producers, and contractors in the world. He's best known as the leader of Kanye West's Sunday Service Choir, which took the world by storm in 2019, and he's worked with so many other legends as well. He worked with Beyoncé on her GRAMMY-winning "Break My Soul" (and we talk about that session in this episode), Will Smith on his first new music in years and re-emerging in the public eye (which we also talk about), Harry Styles, Elton John, T.I., Jennifer Hudson, Whitney Houston, Kurt Carr, and countless others. We talk about how Kanye's Sunday Service started, how he built it with Phil Cornish, Ye, and other key people; its rapid growth; employing hundreds of people; and the high-stakes preparation for their iconic Coachella performance, and so much more.Jason dives into what it takes to blend spiritual roots with mainstream appeal, sharing stories from Sunday Service's beginnings and growth, understanding Ye and his own language, his unique role in the industry as a vocal contractor and his experiences with high-profile artists, from behind-the-scenes studio sessions with Beyoncé to Elton John and Andrew Watt. Jason also reflects on the power of choirs in music production, what it means to be a true leader, and how faith influences his work in the mainstream music industry. https://youtube.com/live/IjPHR2jXGGc?feature=share On Saturday (October 19), Ozzy Osbourne was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist, marking his second recognition by the institution, following his 2006 induction with BLACK SABBATH. Actor and TENACIOUS D frontman Jack Black inducted Ozzy, calling him "the greatest frontman in the history of rock 'n' roll." Black recalled seeing the cover of Ozzy's debut solo album, Blizzard Of Ozz, saying, "It was the most metal thing I had ever seen, and I didn't even know what metal was. Then I went back to Ozzy's BLACK SABBATH albums, and I thought, 'Unholy shit, this guy invented heavy metal—the darkest, heaviest stuff the world had ever heard.'" Seated on a throne, Osbourne humbly accepted the award, saying: "Well, here we are. I can't believe it myself. Let me get the thank-yous out of the way. I'd like to thank everyone who voted me into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for my solo work. A great thank you from the bottom of my heart. My fans have been so loyal over the years, and I cannot thank them enough. I've been lucky to play with some of the world's greatest musicians, and many of them are here tonight. But I have to especially mention Randy Rhoads. If I hadn't met Randy, I don't think I'd be sitting here now. And, more than anyone, I have to thank my wife Sharon, who saved my life, and my grandbabies and babies. I love them all." With his brief speech concluded, Ozzy handed the mic back to Jack Black, and an all-star performance followed. The backing band featured RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS drummer Chad Smith, METALLICA bassist (and former Ozzy band member) Robert Trujillo, producer Andrew Watt, and keyboardist Adam Wakeman. They were joined by TOOL's Maynard James Keenan and Wolfgang Van Halen for a powerful rendition of “Crazy Train.” Zakk Wylde and country star Jelly Roll then took the stage for "Mama, I'm Coming Home," and Billy Idol closed the set with "No More Tears," accompanied by his longtime guitarist Steve Stevens. Sammy Hagar and Slash Light Up the Stage with “Hot Blooded” at the 2024 Rock Hall Induction for Foreigner The 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony became a night to remember when rock icons Sammy Hagar and Slash joined forces to pay tribute to the legendary band Foreigner. As the hall reverberated with excitement, the duo tore into a blistering performance of Foreigner's timeless classic, “Hot Blooded,” sending shockwaves through the audience. With Sammy Hagar's unmistakable voice soaring through the iconic chorus and Slash's signature Les Paul riffs electrifying the crowd, it was a performance that honored Foreigner's legacy while bringing their music into a new era. The chemistry between these two rock veterans was undeniable, as they traded licks and vocal lines, breathing fresh life into the 1978 hit. Hagar, no stranger to the Rock Hall after his own induction with Van Halen, shared his admiration for Foreigner during the ceremony. "These guys paved the way for so many of us," Hagar remarked, "and it's an honor to be here, rocking out to a song that still gets the blood pumping after all these years." Slash echoed the sentiment, acknowledging the influence Foreigner had on the next generation of rock musicians. "Their songwriting, their energy, it's all a part of the DNA of rock 'n' roll." Foreigner's induction has been a long time coming, and this powerhouse collaboration made sure it was celebrated in style. As the final notes of “Hot Blooded” rang out, the crowd was on their feet, a testament to Foreigner's enduring impact on rock history, and the incredible performance delivered by two of the genre's most enduring stars. Whether you were there in person or watching from home, this performance will go down as one of the standout moments in the Rock Hall's history—a true celebration of rock and roll's past, present, and future.

Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament are two of the Seattle scene's most foundational musicians from the 80's and 90's. Stone and Jeff started playing together in 1984 as members of Green River, which eventually dissolved, leading singer Mark Arm to form Mudhoney. Later, Jeff played bass and Stone played guitar in Mother Love Bone until their lead singer Andrew Wood died of an overdose just days before their major label debut in March of 1990. Reeling from Andy's death, Jeff and Stone started recording with Soundgarden's Chris Cornell on a side project called Temple Of The Dog that featured vocals from a then unknown singer from San Diego named Eddie Vedder. Later that year, Jeff and Stone asked Eddie to join their new band with guitarist Mike McCready. As Pearl Jam, they released their debut album Ten in August of ‘91—the album went 13 times platinum and charted on Billboard for nearly five years. Since then, Pearl Jam have released 11 more albums and built a die-hard fan base thanks in part to their outstanding live shows. Last week they released their latest album, Dark Matter, which was produced by Andrew Watt, who's recently worked with Miley Cyrus, Iggy Pop, Post Malone and Ozzy Osborne. On today's episode Leah Rose talks to Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament about how Andrew Watt's encyclopedic knowledge of Pearl Jam helped inspire some of their best performances to date. Stone and Jeff also open up about the inner-workings of their professional relationship, and Stone remembers the first time he met Eddie Vedder, who marked the occasion by passing him a hand-written poem.
