This week we went deep on debt—all $72 trillion of it—and made the case that the bond market is the real economy, that the Fed has already lost control of the entire curve, and that when the AI trade unwinds, the flood into Treasuries won’t save anyone the way the textbook says it should. Then we watched Japan demonstrate in real time what happens when you don’t have the exorbitant privilege of issuing the world’s reserve currency. A 40-year low for the yen, Japan spending $87 billion in two days trying to hold it together, and the U.S. quietly intervening not out of friendship, but because Japan’s dumping Treasuries would torch our bond market at the worst possible moment. Plus: "Independents Aren't Real"? Kasich's Partisan Slander, Manchin's New PAC, and 45% of America Says Otherwise. Trump says he's close to an Iran deal. He's been saying he's a week away from a Putin deal for a year and a half. Paul Rieckhoff calls the head fake for what it is, warns the media not to fall for it again, and lays out the chaos Congress is trying to jam through before its six-week recess — including Todd Blanche's nomination and the weaponization fund built to compensate January 6th insurrectionists. The forever wars don't take August off, and neither do we. Then the real story: on August 4th, four independent veterans appear on a single top-two primary ballot in Eastern Washington. Nate Powell for U.S. House, Danny Tarkenton for Spokane County prosecutor, Aaron Croft for the State House, and Ronald McCoy for State Senate. Across those races, roughly 131,000 independents and 53,000 independent veterans can vote — a decisive bloc the corporate media isn't covering. Paul breaks down why open primaries are the battlefield, why John Kasich is wrong that independents aren't real, and what's coming next with Senator Joe Manchin, Heather Manchin, and Senator Angus King joining the show. -WATCH full video of this episode here. -Check the IVA overview of Washington State's primary this week.  -Millions of American veterans are being locked out of primary elections in the country they served. 7/31/26 - Here's What Mark Levin Really Thinks About the Iran Deal

Mark Levin Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 1, 2026 111:54

On Friday's Mark Levin Show, the Iranian regime cannot be overthrown from the air alone. We need to take an aggressive posture without ground troops: provide arms to the Iranian resistance movements, destroy Kharg Island (through which 85% of Iran's oil and gas flows, much of it to China), and rebuild later with private investment. Don't listen to the isolationists who favor an Iran deal. Meanwhile, we need to support Ukraine's licensing to build Patriot missile systems while withholding F-35s from Erdogan, who threatens Israel and Greece, occupies a third of Cyprus, and pursues neo-Ottoman ambitions. Also, an estimated 60,000 or more Moroccans and others from North Africa have invaded Spain, breaking into stores, burning cars, and rioting. Socialists, like Spain's PM, Marxists, and the Democrat Party create such conditions worldwide by opening borders and, in the U.S., by refusing to enforce immigration law. Democrats created unlawful sanctuary cities and states that nullify federal immigration statutes, withhold information from ICE, and encourage well-funded radical left groups to obstruct enforcement—even of those who have committed serious crimes. Later, Michael Whatley, the Republican Senate nominee in North Carolina, calls in and reports strong momentum after touring all 100 counties, where voters consistently seek a fighter focused on family success, economic opportunity, and safe communities rather than the record of his opponent, former Governor Roy Cooper. Air Date: 7/25/2026 The Monthly-ish Mix™ is here to get you caught up on the news from June and July without being overwhelming! Organized around a single idea: the same politics that left America friendless abroad is keeping Americans apart at home. The war with Iran ends and America's word counts for less around the world, so Europe starts building its own software instead of buying ours, NATO war-games its own doubts, and China quietly steadies the world's oil markets, while Taiwan shows that real security comes from connection, not threats. At home, the administration revives the red scare, hands the Justice Department to the president's personal lawyer while judges face death threats, and turns the country's 250th birthday into a fight over who counts as American, and billionaires cash out while everyone argues. And the way back starts small: a psychologist's simple habit for a happier social life, organizers who treat loneliness as a political problem with a political cure, and a Michigan Senate campaign built on talking to people instead of donors. In this segment, host Tara Servatius addresses listener texts questioning why Democrats do not face criticism for past foreign interventions or demand the extradition of anti-American terrorists to international courts. Servatius severely critiques the foreign policy approach taken by JD Vance regarding Iran, arguing that the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and lifting of blockades allowed the Iranian regime to rearm with Chinese components, directly leading to recent American service member casualties. Drawing parallels to past military operations under President Barack Obama in Libya, she argues that attempts to normalize or permit missile capabilities for hostile nations jeopardize U.S. troops and undermine national security.

Ian Bremmer (President & Founder, Eurasia Group and GZERO Media) joins Chris Cuomo to break down the biggest geopolitical and political questions shaping America today, from Iran and Israel to artificial intelligence, China, and the growing anti-establishment movement transforming U.S. politics. Bremmer explains why he believes there is no real Iran deal despite the White House's claims, what the ceasefire actually accomplished, why he sees Trump's strategy as a major foreign policy setback, and how the conflict could continue to affect inflation, energy markets, and the economy heading into the midterms. The conversation also explores Israel's security challenges, Benjamin Netanyahu's political future, and the strategic balance across the Middle East. The discussion then turns to AI, where Bremmer argues that governments are falling behind technology, why artificial intelligence is moving faster than regulation, how China is competing with the United States, and why AI could reshape national security, the economy, and the future of work. Finally, Chris and Ian examine the anti-establishment wave emerging in American politics, the shift toward economic populism, younger voters, and why the next political movement may look very different from MAGA. Mary and Andrew start with a deeper dive into the Supreme Court's decision to allow the removal of Temporary Protected Status designations from over 330,000 immigrants from Haiti and Syria — a consequential ruling that affects TPS holders well beyond those who brought the case, leaving over a million people vulnerable to removal. As Andrew notes, this case was based on two claims: one being a statutory challenge that DHS didn't follow the procedures set out by Congress, and the other a constitutional equal protection claim that this TPS status removal was “motivated in part by race” — both of which were struck down 6-3. Then, a look at Trump's latest retribution efforts including the heavy sentences doled out over a protest that ended in a shooting outside the ICE Prairieland Detention Center inTexas one year ago; a felony indictment of former Olympian David Hearn for allegedly tearing part of the liner of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool; and former CIA Director John Brennan going on offense to challenge the DOJ's investigation into him. Plus, Mary and Andrew analyze the DOJ's response to a “show cause” order to unredact some of the Epstein files in a lawsuit filed by journalist Katie Phang. As Andrew puts it, Chief Justice John Roberts is “cherry-picking.” He's flying solo in this short edition of Main Justice (more to come with Mary in the next episode). Andrew gives a quick briefing on several of the Supreme Court's most consequential end-of-term rulings, starting with the decision not to hear an appeal in the E. Jean Carroll case. Andrew also touches on the Court's decision to uphold a Mississippi law to allow mail-in ballots that are sent by Election Day to be counted but saves his deepest analysis for two similar cases with opposing decisions: the firings of Lisa Cook and Rebecca Slaughter. While the Court ruled that the Trump administration must have cause to dismiss Cook from the Federal Reserve, it allowed the government to fire Slaughter from the Federal Trade Commission, a decision which Andrew calls deeply flawed showing the conservative majority's support for a “unitary executive.”  And finally, Andrew breaks down the Court's narrow decision to uphold birthright citizenship, and why the tight 5-4 split is the story. From June 4, 2016: This week, the Brookings Institution held an event on a new Brookings report on implementation of the Iran Deal: The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) adopted by Iran and the P5+1 partners in July 2015 was an effort not only to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons but also to avert a nuclear arms competition in the Middle East. But uncertainties surrounding the future of the Iran nuclear deal, including the question of what Iran will do when key JCPOA restrictions on its nuclear program expire after 15 years, could provide incentives for some of its neighbors to keep their nuclear options open.In their Brookings Arms Control and Non-Proliferation Series monograph, “The Iran Nuclear Deal: Prelude to Proliferation in the Middle East?,” Robert Einhorn and Richard Nephew assess the current status of the JCPOA and explore the likelihood that, in the wake of the agreement, regional countries will pursue their own nuclear weapons programs or at least latent nuclear weapons capabilities. Drawing on interviews with senior government officials and non-government experts from the region, they focus in depth on the possible motivations and capabilities of Egypt, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates for pursuing nuclear weapons. The monograph also offers recommendations for policies to reinforce the JCPOA and reduce the likelihood that countries of the region will seek nuclear weapons. On May 31, the Brookings Arms Control and Non-Proliferation Initiative hosted a panel to discuss the impact of the JCPOA on prospects for nuclear proliferation in the Middle East. Brookings Senior Fellow and Deputy Director of Foreign Policy Suzanne Maloney served as moderator. Panelists included H.E. Yousef Al Otaiba, ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to the United States; Derek Chollet, counselor and senior advisor for security and defense policy at the German Marshall Fund; Brookings Senior Fellow Robert Einhorn; and Brookings Nonresident Senior Fellow Richard Nephew. To receive ad-free podcasts, become a Lawfare Material Supporter at www.patreon.com/lawfare. Ron breaks down the fine details of Trump's Iran deal, the MOU, and how the MOU is different from Obama's JCPOA. Since this episode was recorded, Iranian forces struck a cargo vessel in the Strait of Hormuz. In response, the U.S. struck Iranian missile and drone storage locations. At the time of release, we are still waiting to see if Iran will face consequences for violating the ceasefire agreement. Is this a step toward peace in the Middle East or a band-aid? With America 250 on the horizon, Ron takes a look at how Americans view their country, patriotism, and the definition of freedom. One poll shows a shocking gap between Democrats and Republicans.
