#23 - Monday Minute | Random Process, Random Results

The Independent Dealer Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 8, 2026 3:58

Welcome to the Monday Minute — your weekly reset to lead better, think clearer, and build your independent dealership with intention. Every dealer has a sales process. The question is whether it's intentional or accidental. If it's not written down and trained consistently, every salesperson on your lot is making it up as they go — and the path of least resistance is never the path to growth. One customer gets a great experience. The next gets confusion. One lead gets followed up. The next falls through the cracks. That's not a business. That's a gamble. In this episode, Jeff and Luke get specific about what a real road to the sale looks like — from the first phone call and appointment setting, to the lot greeting, vehicle presentation, test drive, credit application, deal build, close, and the follow-up call most dealers are still skipping. They break down why your process has to match your model — retail, BHPH, wholesale, and highline all run differently — and why scripts don't have to sound robotic to eliminate confusion and build customer confidence. Top athletes practice fundamentals. Your sales team should too.Your assignment this week: write down your road to the sale, step by step. Define how your dealership handles each phase of the customer journey. Review it with your team. Refine it. Practice it. Because random processes create random results — and intentional processes create predictable growth.Review this week's Sunday newsletter at TheIndependentDealer.com for the full theme and exercises. Not subscribed yet? In this episode of the He Said, She Said: Razor Branding™ Podcast, Jaci and Michael sit down with Danielle Dobbs, First Vice President of Marketing and brand positioning expert, to talk about what it really takes to build marketing that works when budgets are limited, audiences are distracted, and the temptation to skip strategy and go straight to tactics is everywhere. Danielle brings over 11 years of experience working with growing businesses across the United States and draws on her work in both agency and in-house roles to make the case for process over guesswork every single time. She walks through her proprietary Refine framework, shares why a message that tries to reach everyone reaches no one, and explains how understanding your audience deeply enough to know who you are not for is just as powerful as knowing who you are for. From balancing short-term wins with long-term brand building to why frequency matters far more than reach in today’s noisy ad environment, this is a grounded and practical conversation about doing marketing with real intention behind it. Key Takeaways Going straight to tactics without a strategy is one of the most expensive mistakes a business can make A clear and focused message will always outperform a broad one – trying to say everything at once means nothing lands Knowing who you are not for is just as important as defining who you are for, and most businesses skip that step entirely Frequency matters more than reach – being seen once by thousands of people is far less valuable than being seen repeatedly by the right ones Breaking content into smaller pieces over time builds more rapport than publishing everything at once Every business has a unique story and differentiator – the Refine framework exists to help them find it and communicate it with intention Listen wherever you get your podcasts or at razorbranding.org

MIND stands for Mastering Internal Negativity during Difficulty. This series emphasizes productivity, provider performance, and team optimization to ensure we are at our best during high-pressure situations. In this episode, host Dr. Mark Ramzy chats with special guests and master educators about the concept of human factors.Dr. Chris Hicks is an emergency physician and trauma team leader at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto, and co-founder of Advanced Performance Healthcare Design, a physician-led simulation and design group. Dr. Andrew Petrosoniak is an emergency physician and trauma team leader at St. Michael’s Hospital, and Medical Director of the Unity Health Toronto Simulation Program. He’s an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto where his research focuses on simulation for systems and design improvement and optimizing the care of the bleeding patient. Along with Dr. Hicks, he’s also President of Advanced Performance Healthcare Design, a consulting firm that works with high-performance teams and uses simulation to enhance and design better healthcare spaces Cognitive Question How can the integration of human factors improve decision-making and performance in emergency medicine and critical care environments? ️What are Human Factors? In the context of healthcare, human factors encompass the interplay between humans, the systems they work within, and the effectiveness of their interactions. It includes elements like communication, system design, environmental conditions, and behavioral patterns affecting individual and team decision-making processes. It’s the collective impact of individual behaviors, team dynamics, and the physical environment on performance and outcomes. The aim is to eliminate issues arising from human error by creating systems and environments that naturally guide and support optimal performance. 🏥How This Applies to the Emergency Department or ICU? Efficient integration of human factors in high-pressure settings like the Emergency Department (ED) or Intensive Care Unit (ICU) helps mitigate the risks associated with stressful and chaotic environments. By focusing on system designs that account for human behavior, healthcare professionals can reduce errors, enhance team coordination, and ultimately improve patient care. This is crucial as teams are often required to make rapid, life-saving decisions in these environmentsThe design of clinical spaces can either hinder or help efficient care. Poorly arranged equipment or cluttered workspaces increase stress and impede decision-making. Implementing structured design principles, such as dedicated equipment zones and clear visual cues, can streamline workflows and enhance team coordinationIt actually helps pave the way for more efficiency because you end up “working smarter instead of harder”.It speaks directly to the Daniel Kahneman’s theory of Type 2 Thinking – which is a slow, analytical cognitive process requiring deliberate thoughtWe’ll likely create a whole dedicated episode to this but if you want to read more ahead of time on it, check out his book Thinking, Fast and Slow ⏩Immediate Action Steps for Your Next Shift **Assess Your Environment**: Take note of any clutter, noise, or layout issues in your workspace that could hinder optimal performance. Identify problem areas that could be optimized.**Recognizable Hard-Stop** – Implement a “Stop-Point” Check for areas or issues that involve more than just patient safety (ie. workflow inefficiencies, sign-out, throughput, etc). Use predefined benchmarks during procedures to ensure clarity and efficiency.**Foster Open Communication** – Encourage an environment where every team member feels comfortable discussing their thoughts and decisions without fear of judgment.**Prototype Solutions** – Work with colleagues to identify problems and brainstorm quick, cost-effective solutions that could be tested in your department.**Role Clarity and Preparation** – Ensure roles are clearly defined and team members are prepared with necessary resources readily available during high-stakes scenarios.**Test and Refine** – Conduct quick pilot tests of new setups or processes during quieter times and gather feedback from your team. Conclusion Human factors play a critical role in shaping healthcare outcomes. Through structured system designs and attention to team dynamics, it is possible to reduce inefficiencies and enhance both patient care and provider well-being. It requires a shift in perspective from seeing design and systems as separate from human behaviors, to seeing them as intricately linked. By incorporating these principles, healthcare professionals can create environments that inherently support better, safer, and more effective patient care. 🚨 Clinical Bottom Line Incorporating human factors into healthcare isn’t just about preventing errors—it’s about creating an ecosystem where the healthcare team is empowered to perform at their best, even under the most challenging conditions. Implementing small, iterative changes can create a meaningful impact, paving the way for improved systems and processes. This starts by redesigning systems and environments with human factors in mind, which can significantly improve both the efficiency of care delivery and the safety of the healthcare environment. China Daily Podcast

The upcoming visit to China by United States President Donald Trump presents a cherished opportunity to help stabilize and refine China-US relations at a time of growing global uncertainty.During his talks with President Trump over phone in February, President Xi Jinping stressed that the two sides should make this year one of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation, while steering the giant ship of China-US relations steadily forward through winds and storms and accomplishing more big things and good things.President Trump's prospective visit comes at a time when the world economy faces sluggish growth, supply chains remain under pressure, geopolitical tensions persist and financial uncertainty lingers. Against this backdrop, closer China-US coordination would help stabilize global expectations, support international markets and reinforce confidence in the global economic recovery.Under such conditions, it is important for the two leaders to have candid and in-depth face-to-face talks to explore how the two countries can work together to properly address key international and regional issues, and advance practical cooperation, which is not only in line with the common interests of China and the US, but also beneficial to the peace, stability and development of the wider world. The world's two largest economies remain deeply embedded in global value chains despite the tariff war, sanctions and "de-risking" moves on the part of the US. US companies continue to rely on the Chinese market; Chinese enterprises continue to value stable trade and investment relations with the US. Even amid fierce rivalry over semiconductors and advanced technologies, neither side can escape the costs of economic estrangement. This creates space for pragmatic negotiation and cooperation.President Xi has emphasized in his phone talks with the US leader that the two sides should adhere to the common understandings reached, enhance dialogue and communication, properly manage their differences and expand practical cooperation. China always means what it says and matches its words with actions and results. As long as both sides move in the same direction on the basis of equality, mutual respect and mutual benefit, they can find ways to address each other's concerns.Climate governance, anti-narcotics coordination, artificial intelligence regulation, macroeconomic stabilization and crisis management all remain areas where the two sides have shared incentives to work together. But any sustainable stabilization requires confronting what is the political foundation of the relationship: the Taiwan question. The Taiwan question is not simply one issue among many, but the core of China's core interests and the most sensitive red line in bilateral relations. Respect for the one-China principle and the three China-US joint communiques is not a negotiable diplomatic preference. It is the indispensable precondition for stable ties.US policymakers should not underestimate how fundamental the Taiwan question is to stable ties. Managing differences prudently and avoiding miscalculation on the Taiwan question is essential not only for bilateral stability, but also for peace and security in the Asia-Pacific region. In a world facing growing uncertainty and fragmentation, maintaining stable China-US relations remains a shared responsibility of the two major countries. Strengthening communication, managing differences prudently and expanding mutually beneficial cooperation would not only serve the interests of both peoples, but also contribute positively to the world. A descent into unchecked rivalry between the world's two largest economies would benefit no one.

We avoid four sinful activities and especially avoid four things. Be careful about what we eat, as it directly affects your consciousness. No illicit sex, no intoxication, no gambling, no meat-eating. These are just low activities. When we're engaged in devotional service, we have to be careful because we may not see everything. So there are different kinds of aparādhas. There's vaiṣṇava-aparādha, there's nāma-aparādha, there's sevā-aparādha and there's dhāma-aparādha. For instance, when you go to the dhāma, you have to be very careful because you may not know where you're stepping. You should not develop a flippant attitude—that "Who are all these people? What's this place?" If you're around devotees, you should be very humble because you should know that they are very dear to Kṛṣṇa. When you're around the Deities, don't be a bull in a china shop. That's why there are regulations in pañcarātrika worship. You make sure there's no cross-contamination. If you touch some prasād, like if you pick up a tulsī leaf already offered, then you purify your hand before you offer a fresh tulsī leaf. You have to be careful where you step, never step over Kṛṣṇa, never put your feet on things. There are ways— like don't talk loudly before the Deities, don't cry, wail. There are all these points for avoiding aparādha. 'Rādhā' means ārādhanam, worship of Kṛṣṇa in the proper way. And there are ways that are improper. So you refine your mind and the way you act when you're around the devotees, when you're around Kṛṣṇa, when you're around the dhāma, and when you're around the Holy Name. Then you can be fully receptive to their mercy and take it all in. Pāpa are gross activities that come from our attachment to the modes of rajas and tamas, and even sattva to some degree, but it's very light. But the tamasic, we have to be very careful and purify our minds and hearts so that we can at least develop sāttvic habits. Kṛṣṇa talks about this in the 11th Canto, there is a whole chapter about it. Everything you use in your life should be sāttvic. Because otherwise, in rajas, tamas, then you're still subjected to activities that are animal-like. And we need clarity, we need sattva. Sattvaṁ yad brahma-darśanam. You have to come from the raw wood, to the smoke, to the fire. That's tamas, rajas, sattva. So we avoid the things that are obviously degrading, and then we avoid offenses so that we can be gentle and worshipful around the Holy Name, around the Vaiṣṇavas, around the Deities, etc. I'm going to read you the verse again, because this is the verse for the day. Episode Overview In this episode of Expert Mentors Live, John Kitchens sits down with real estate operator and AI strategist Tony Cruz to unpack the new realities of today's market—and why the agents who adapt fastest are the ones winning right now. From shifting buyer behavior and difficult pricing conversations to AI-powered follow-up systems and voice automation, Tony breaks down the exact strategies agents need to stay relevant, scalable, and profitable in a rapidly changing industry. This conversation dives into: Why many agents are struggling in today's market The massive "skill void" happening inside real estate How AI is transforming lead conversion and follow-up Why most CRMs are silently killing opportunities The rise of Voice AI and webinar marketing How simple automations can dramatically increase conversions If you're trying to grow your business without drowning in busy work, this episode delivers practical strategies you can implement immediately. Key Topics Covered What's Actually Different About Today's Market Tony explains why today's market requires agents to become stronger communicators—not just marketers. Today's buyers and sellers are: More cautious More payment-sensitive More informed More skeptical Which means agents must stop "talking at" clients and start having more consultative conversations. "The name of the game right now is who owns the buyers." Why Agents Are Struggling According to Tony, the biggest issue isn't the market itself—it's the lack of skill development. Many agents struggle because they've never learned: Negotiation Expectation setting Lead conversion Objection handling Relationship-based communication He also points to a lack of leadership and training inside many brokerages. The Luxury Listing Strategy That Builds Trust Tony shares how he's using third-party appraisals on luxury listings to create: Credibility Realistic seller expectations Easier pricing conversations Stronger positioning Instead of telling sellers what they want to hear, he focuses on building trust through data and transparency. The Follow-Up Problem Most Agents Don't Realize They Have One of the biggest breakthroughs Tony shares is how AI exposed major flaws inside his own CRM follow-up systems. After auditing his automations using Claude AI, he realized: His messaging lacked rapport His follow-up was too generic His sequences weren't aligned with the client avatar Once rewritten, engagement and responses increased significantly. "You're not building rapport—you're talking at them." The "Did You Get My Email?" Strategy Tony reveals one of the simplest—and highest ROI—follow-up tactics agents can implement immediately. After sending an important email, send a text the next day: "Hey, did you get my email yesterday?" This simple system dramatically improves: Open rates Replies Engagement Appointment conversions Why Most Agents Waste Money on Leads Tony explains why running ads without proper systems is a recipe for failure. Before agents spend money on: Zillow Realtor.com Facebook ads Google PPC They must first fix: Their follow-up Their CRM Their automations Their conversion systems "You're pouring water into a sinking ship." Confidence, clarity, and speaking when it matters.Confident communication isn't about being the loudest in the room. For Susie Wolff, it's about displaying assurance before you even open your mouth.Wolff is a former professional race car driver, managing director of F1 Academy, and author of Driven. Throughout her career in one of the world's most male-dominated industries, she's learned that confidence starts within. “If you want others to believe in you, you need to at least have confidence in your own abilities,” she says. By letting her capabilities speak for themselves, Wolff felt she didn't have to. “I was never the loudest voice in the room. But I made sure when I did speak that I really had something to say.”In this special episode of Think Fast, Talk Smart, co-hosted by Matt Abrahams and Tiggy Valen, Wolff shares how inner drive creates outer clarity. From delivering hard truths with empathy to achieving buy-in for a bold vision, Wolff offers lessons on communicating with confidence, even in the face of stiff competition.Episode Reference Links:Susie WolffSusie's Book: DrivenTiggy ValenPaddock ProjectEp.235 Refine, Reframe, Repeat: Make Your Communication a Slam Dunk  Connect:Premium Signup >>>> Think Fast Talk Smart PremiumEmail Questions & Feedback >>> hello@fastersmarter.ioEpisode Transcripts >>> Think Fast Talk Smart WebsiteNewsletter Signup + English Language Learning >>> FasterSmarter.ioThink Fast Talk Smart >>> LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTubeMatt Abrahams >>> LinkedInChapters:(00:00) - Introduction (03:06) - Early Motorsport Passion (04:01) - Finding Your Voice (05:33) - Building Confidence (06:28) - Becoming a Leader (08:48) - Cross-Cultural Communication (09:57) - Building F1 Academy (14:20) - Giving Tough Feedback (17:32) - Embracing Discomfort (20:01) - The Final Three Questions (26:18) - Conclusion  ********Thank you to our sponsors.  These partnerships support the ongoing production of the podcast, allowing us to bring it to you at no cost. This episode is brought to you by Babbel. AI can crank out a draft in minutes, but if the audience is wrong, the tone is off, or the facts don't match policy, you'll lose every “saved” hour in rework. In this episode, Jackie breaks down the shift she keeps seeing in instructional design teams: the new bottleneck isn't creating content, it's creating trusted content. That's why human-in-the-loop review isn't an extra process. It's the difference between fast and frustrating.Jackie walks through a simple four-step workflow you can apply to almost any training asset: Draft, Verify, Refine, and Approve (DVRA). We talk about where rework really comes from, how to stop verification from happening too late, and why “verify before you beautify” protects your time and your credibility. Jackie also shares practical checks for SME accuracy, compliance alignment, learner job context, and accessibility basics so your training is clear, safe, and usable. To make this immediately actionable, Jackie gives you a four-question review tool you can run before anything ships, plus a tiny definition of done you can paste into your next project. If you found this helpful, follow or subscribe, share the episode with a fellow designer, and leave a review so more instructional designers can find it.

I want to ask you something real quick. What if you could wake up tomorrow and half your to-do list was already done? Emails answered, content posted, calls booked, follow-ups sent, and you did not lift a finger. That is not some far-off fantasy anymore. That is what is actually possible right. In this solo episode, I am breaking down exactly how I am doing it and how you can too. I am not here claiming to be the AI guru of anything. I am just the reporter. These are the things that are working in my world right now, and I want to hand them straight to you so you can take what fits and leave what does not. That has always been the Happy Hustle way. Here is the big idea behind this whole episode: stop thinking about AI as a tool and start thinking about it as a team member. Better yet, think of it as your co-founder. Because when you make that mental shift, everything changes. You stop dabbling and you start deploying. And that is where the real leverage lives. The first thing I want you to take away is the idea of building your AI team department by department. You do not have to overhaul your whole business overnight. Just look at each area and ask what AI could own in that space. For marketing, AI can write your emails, your ad copy, your social posts, and your content outlines. Tools like ChatGPT, Jasper, and others can crank out high quality drafts in minutes when you give them a solid prompt. For customer support, you can build a chatbot trained on your own FAQs, your offers, and your most common objections, so it handles the repetitive questions while you focus on the high value conversations. For scheduling and executive tasks, tools like Calendly, Motion, and Claude Cowork can connect your calendar, your project management, and your communication tools into one central hub that basically runs itself. The second big takeaway is the four bucket framework. Break your business down into lead generation, sales, fulfillment, and operations. Then for each bucket, ask yourself three questions: what can be automated, what can be templated, and what can AI handle 80 percent of? That question alone will change how you see your week. Anything that does not require human emotion or final judgment can most likely be handed off, and that frees you up to do the work only you can do. The third thing I want you to lock in is the delegation framework, and it is four simple steps. First, write down everything you do daily. Second, sort those tasks into three categories: repetitive, creative, or strategic. Third, automate the repetitive stuff with AI entirely, use AI as a thought partner on the creative stuff, and keep the strategic stuff for yourself because that is your zone. Fourth, optimize weekly. Refine your prompts, build SOPs for your AI systems, and even ask AI itself how to make things better. That last one alone is a game changer. The fourth takeaway is about the pitfalls, because I want you to avoid the mistakes, I see people making. Do not over-automate human connection. That is a line you do not cross. Do not blindly trust AI outputs either. Always verify, always review. And do not put garbage in and expect gold out. The quality of what you feed your AI determines the quality of what it gives back. Train it well, give it context, and treat it like the team member it is becoming. The real goal here is not to work more. It is to work in a way that gives you back your time, your energy, and your presence so you can show up fully for the people and the things that actually matter. That is the happy hustle. That is the whole point. If you have been on the fence about getting serious with AI, this episode is your sign to start today. Pick one thing, an email sequence, a scheduling tool, a chatbot, and just build that first piece. Do not wait until you have it all figured out because nobody does. You figure it out by doing it. Head over to https://caryjack.com/podcastin/ to listen to the full episode and get all the details on the tools, prompts, and systems I mentioned. And if this gave you even one good idea, share it with a friend who is still doing everything manually. That is one of the most generous things you can do for a fellow entrepreneur right now. Keep on happy hustlin'.

Growth can stall when every job depends on more labor, more stress, and more guesswork. Caleb and Brittany discuss how their hardscaping business has evolved through better systems, sharper financial tools, and a more intentional approach to people. Instead of relying on manual labor as the default answer, they explore how strategic equipment investments can increase productivity, reduce overhead, and limit the personnel challenges that come with an inefficient workforce. The conversation also digs into the impact of fractional CFO services and specialized software for budgeting, cash flow, and long-term planning. Caleb and Brittany share how clearer numbers have helped them make stronger decisions, while improved hiring practices have raised the bar for team morale, customer satisfaction, and company culture. Covered in this episode: • Invest in specialized equipment to replace inefficient manual labor and reduce long-term overhead costs. • Hire a fractional CFO or utilize professional budgeting software to gain clarity on financial health and plan for future cash flow needs. • Refine your hiring process to focus on attitude and cultural fit rather than simply filling vacancies with "warm bodies." • Practice transparent communication with your team when facing high-stress periods to manage expectations and maintain professional morale. • Reward team excellence by offering financial incentives to employees who are specifically named in positive client reviews. This episode offers a practical look at what it takes to move a contracting business beyond reactive decisions and toward a more stable, scalable future.

Danny McMillan and Shubhash Sharma are back with another Claude Sessions episode covering both the back end and front end of building your Amazon business infrastructure with AI. Shubhash walks through exactly how to register for Amazon's Seller Partner API — your free, direct access to your own sales, inventory, pricing, and order data — no third-party subscriptions required. Danny then breaks down the 165-feature design system he built to eliminate AI slop from websites, landing pages, and app interfaces. Part 1: Amazon SP-API Setup (Shubhash) What SP-API is — Amazon giving you a key to your own data warehouse: live inventory, real-time orders, pricing, catalog data, and sales reports 5-step registration process — Register as developer, create an app, select permissions, self-authorize, and connect to Claude Code to build dashboards Common rejection reasons — Usually a missed checkbox or vague answer about data usage. Keep answers focused on personal brand development and safe data storage Advertising API is separate — Different credentials, different registration, different refresh token. You cannot reuse SP-API tokens for ads What you can build once connected — Custom dashboards, forecasting engines, inventory alerts, automated reporting — all built by Claude Code without knowing Python Danny's guardrails — Hire a $50 Upwork specialist to help with paperwork submission, keep them on retainer for when APIs go down (especially Q4, Black Friday, Prime Day) Part 2: The 165-Feature Design System (Danny) The AI slop problem — Default fonts (Roboto, Arial), purple-blue gradients, three-column card layouts, floating animated orbs, oversized border radius — all telltale signs of generic AI output 15 anti-patterns cataloged — The system actively fights against common AI design defaults Four-phase pipeline — Decide, Design, Build, Refine — with 15 databases and components extracted from 11 repos Gap analysis scoring — Rates output out of 60 points. What if the most powerful thing you could do for your clients isn't to consult or coach them… but to mentor them? We are the ones who guide our clients to achieve their aspirations and become who they are striving to become! We come alongside clients who are in the middle of their heroic journey. So if the client is the hero, then who are we? We are the mentors. We are the guides. We are the Obi-Wans to their Luke Skywalker. Ever since I left Disney to start my own consulting business over 15 years ago, I have been obsessed with the heroic journey. The heroic journey is a framework of transformation that mythologist Joseph Campbell captured…. There's an individual living a normal life who encounters something unexpected that calls them to adventure. They hesitate, and then they meet a wise old man or woman as a mentor. It appealed to me at first because of how it captured what was really behind me leaving my high-profile job at Disney for my own business, which wasn't just a career transition but a total life transformation. My own heroic journey. But then there's another angle that really speaks to me, especially as I pivoted from consulting to the business mentoring I do now, and that's the role of the mentor who shows up at critical moments with a mix of vision for what is possible for the hero or heroine and tough love to step into it. This role is what I see as the true purpose of transformational consultants and coaches… mentor to heroes and heroines on their journey of transformation. We are the Rafiki to Simba. We are the Obi-Wan to Luke. And when I heard people at a local OD networking meeting talking about Yogi Mueller and his book The Great Slapping, I knew I needed to have him on the show. Tune in to fully appreciate and step into the mentor role with your clients. In today's episode, we're getting into: The role of the mentor in the “hero's journey” and how it reframes your work with clients at a deeper level What real mentorship requires: trust, truth, and the willingness to deliver feedback that actually creates transformation The difference between accidental mentors and intentional mentors, and why that distinction matters for your impact How to both become a better mentor and show up as a mentee who actually grows and evolves Chapters: 00:00 – Why Mentorship Is More Powerful Than Coaching 02:05 – Yogi's Journey: Disney, Career Shifts, and Reinvention 10:49 – Building a Business and Finding Your Voice 15:44 – Why Clients Buy You, Not Your Framework 19:08 – Mentorship vs. Transactions: A Different Value Proposition 23:00 – The Meaning Behind The Great Slapping 25:28 – The Mentors Who Shape Us (and Why It Matters) 29:39 – The Hero's Journey and the Role of the Mentor 33:38 – Why Consultants Have Authority Without Position 42:18 – The “Great Slapping”: Tough Feedback That Transforms 47:50 – What Makes a Great Mentee 53:21 – Why You Need a Mentor (Even If You're the Expert) 59:02 – Growth, Blind Spots, and Stepping Into the Mentor Role Next Steps: Get clear on the role you actually play Are you showing up as a consultant, a coach… or a mentor? Define how you guide your clients through their transformation journey so your positioning reflects the real value you bring. Refine your brand positioning to match your impact If your messaging doesn't clearly communicate how you help clients become who they are striving to become, you're leaving opportunity on the table. Your positioning should make it obvious that you are the partner who meets them in the middle of their heroic journey. Send us Fan MailHow long would you keep marketing your notary business with zero response?Seven days? Thirty? Ninety? In this episode of the Sign & Thrive Podcast for Notaries, Bill Soroka sits down with Victor Diaz of Andre Mobile Notary Service in Houston, Texas to unpack what really happens when you commit to daily prospecting — even when nothing seems to be working.Victor spent nearly 120 days sending outreach emails to estate planning attorneys without a single reply. No encouragement. No validation. No quick wins. Most notaries would have quit.He didn't.Today, one attorney alone sends him steady weekly work — and that relationship started with an email that initially went unanswered. This conversation is a real-world case study in notary marketing, consistency, and professional growth.Inside this episode, you'll learn:• What “staying top of mind” actually means in a service business • Why most notaries quit too early • How to structure your day around energy and productivity • The difference between motivation and commitment • How to market to estate planning attorneys the right way • Why email prospecting works (even when it feels like it doesn't) • How one referral relationship can change your entire business • The power of follow-up and professional persistence • How to confidently talk about your notary services anywhere • Why simply having a Google Business Profile is not enoughVictor shares how he blocked his time, committed to daily execution, and refined his outreach instead of chasing new tactics every week. He explains how community accountability and structured habits helped him stay disciplined through discouraging seasons. You'll also hear how he:• Built relationships with attorneys by adding value beyond the signing table • Helped referral partners grow their own visibility • Asked for reviews strategically • Created a referral loop that brings business back to him • Turned everyday conversations into real opportunitiesThis is not hype. This is not overnight success. This is what one full year of disciplined marketing looks like.If you are a mobile notary, loan signing agent, apostille agent, or estate signing specialist struggling to get traction, this episode will challenge you in the best way possible.Because the truth is simple:The work that builds a sustainable notary business is not glamorous. It happens in daily emails. In follow-up calls. In uncomfortable conversations. In showing up when no one is responding yet.And when it compounds — it compounds fast.Victor also shares his perspective on professionalism in the notary industry, ongoing education, and why commitment to growth separates serious business owners from hobbyists. If you've ever wondered:“Is this even working?” “How long should this take?” “Am I doing enough?” “Why isn't my phone ringing?”This episode is your reality check — and your encouragement.Stay consistent. Refine your approach. Honor your commitment. Give it time.Because sometimes, the phone starts ringing right after most people would have quit.To connect with Bill and explore the High Performance Notary community, visit NotaryCoach.com or join at skool.com/notary.If this episode resonates with you, share it with another notary who needs to hear it — especially the one who's thinking about quitting too soon.

Bhakti Yoga wisdom from the Srimad Bhagavatam, one of the foundational texts of Vedic philosophy, meets a powerful reflection from Henry David Thoreau about shaping the "atmosphere through which we look." In this episode of Wisdom of the Sages, Raghunath and Kaustubha explore how spiritual practice refines the lens of consciousness itself. Their discussion leads to the gopīs—the cowherd women of Vrindavan whose hearts and minds were completely absorbed in Krishna, whom the Srimad Bhagavatam presents as the highest example of devotion in bhakti yoga. From Thoreau's call to simplify life to reflections on sacred places like Govardhan Hill, the conversation explores how devotion, meditation, and spiritual wisdom transform the way we perceive the world and deepen our relationship with the Divine. ******************************************************************** LOVE THE PODCAST? Clients on Demand

If I lost everything and had to do $5 million in 12 months starting from scratch — no list, no reputation, no brand — this is exactly what I'd do. Not what I did years ago when the market was different. What I'd do right now in 2026, knowing everything I know after nine figures in high-ticket sales. Why the Math Is Simpler Than You Think A $10K program means you need 10 clients to hit $100K/month. At a 25% close rate, that's 40 conversations. At $200 per booked call, you're spending about $16K to make $100K. You give Zuckerberg a dollar, he gives you five back. Then you just do it again. The 12-Month Breakdown Months 1-3: Build and validate. One offer, one presentation, one conversion mechanism. Get your first clients. They're not just revenue — they're research. Months 4-6: Systematize what's working. Refine the presentation, dial in your call process, start scaling traffic. Months 7-12: Listen to find out. What Separates People Who Hit Their Numbers Speed of implementation — Launch ugly. Improve as you go. Every week spent perfecting is a week you're not learning from real feedback. Obsession with client results — When your clients win, everything else follows. Testimonials, case studies, momentum. Emotional resilience — The path isn't a straight line. Ads will flop. Clients will refund. Team members will flame out. Treat setbacks as data, not disasters. "If you want to be heavyweight champion of the world, you're going to get punched in the face. The question is, are you going to get back up?"

Keeping Humans in Machines – POVs on AI from Baratunde Thurston and Terry Rice

Insider Interviews

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 4, 2026 12:43

This bonus episode of Insider Interviews: With Media & Marketing Pros came together super spontaneously at On Air Fest in Brooklyn, where podcasters, creators, and technologists gathered recently to talk about the future of audio and, no spoiler alert, the future of AI. After a keynote session that talked about living WITH machines by keeping humanity present I had to grab Baratunde Thurston and Terry Rice to keep talking about how creators, entrepreneurs, (and parents) are navigating exactly that. Both of these conversations landed on the same core idea as my previous episode with Jack Myers: The real differentiator won't be the machines—it'll be the humans using them. Baratunde Thurston, author, speaker, comedian, and “thought leader of interdependence,” has been thinking about this balance for years and created his podcast Life with Machines to really explore that. As he asks: How do we live well with technology, instead of just enduring it? Living Well with Tech per Baratunde He's experimenting with AI directly in his own creative process—even creating an AI character named “Blair” as a kind of co-producer on his show. But he's also clear that there's a line between assistance and authorship. #AI can help with research, feedback, or execution. But the deeper creative work, like ideas, voice, perspective, still needs to come from a human. “There's something slower and messier about crafting things yourself—but there's also a pride of creativity that I want to maintain.”  Baratunde, and not surprisingly after him Terry Rice, also raised an issue that's only going to become more important: authenticity. As generative AI content becomes harder to identify, the industry may need new ways to verify that a real person is behind what we're seeing, hearing, or reading. Some technologists are already exploring ideas like “proof of humanity.” But Baratunde's take was refreshingly simple: “I think the thing we're going to trust the most is this: I feel you. We're sharing the same air.” (He grabbed my arm to illustrate, saying “THIS is what matters.”) In other words, real-world presence and connection may become even more valuable in a digital ecosystem increasingly filled with synthetic content. My second conversation was with Terry Rice, entrepreneur, speaker, and host of The Signal, a podcast designed to help entrepreneurs cut through the noise and focus on practical strategies for growing their businesses. Terry uses AI in his own workflow, like generating prep guides before interviews (which I wish I had done for these spontaneous chats!) or organizing research. He also got so inspired by his kids that he built a way to help parents, with a way to build their own app for their kids! Trust me, you have to listen and hear what he did. But he made an important distinction: the value isn't letting AI do all the thinking. It's knowing what good looks like. “The real skill isn't producing every answer yourself—it's recognizing when something is good and when it isn't.” That was one of those lightbulb emoji comments. It’s also a mindset that he's already teaching his kids. In fact, his ten-year-old daughter summed it up in a way that might be the most useful rule for all of us navigating AI right now: “It's okay to fight with AI.” Out of the mouths of (this generation’s) babes. Question it. Push back. Refine the answer. Through lines? AI will absolutely change how content gets made and how businesses operate. But creativity, judgment, curiosity—and yes, a little humanity—are still very much part of the equation. And for now at least, that's something machines can't replicate. (But props to Chat GPT for helping me summarize some of this brilliance!) Key Moments: 01:36 – Baratunde Thurston on the philosophy behind Life with Machines02:40 – Experimenting with AI as a co-producer03:20 – Where creators should draw the line with AI06:43 – The emerging concept of “proof of humanity”07:55 – Why physical presence may matter more in an AI world10:13 – Should AI try to imitate humans?11:10 – Could real human experiences become a luxury?12:18 – AI's environmental impact and future possibilities 15:54 – Build With Them AI Parenting 17:18 –  A Brand Marriage: The Signal and Fiverr 19:54 –  Vulnerability Builds Trust 22:47 –  No Guilt Using LLMs 23:52 –  Teaching Kids to Challenge AI Connect With: Baratunde Thurston — Author, comedian, cultural thought leader; host of Life with Machines Podcast Terry Rice — Journalist, entrepreneur; host of The Signal and founder of Build With Them On Air Fest Connect with E.B. Build the Next Chapter Before You're Paid

Hey friends, Chase here This episode is short and direct — and it centers on an idea that quietly changes everything once you see it: You don't get paid first for the work you want to do next. You build it first. Most people wait for permission. They wait for a client, an investor, or an opportunity to show up before they start creating. But in my experience, it works the other way around. The next chapter of your career is built in parallel with the one you're already in. I've always balanced paid work with deeply personal exploration. The commercial projects put food on the table. The personal work is where curiosity lives. And it turns out, that curiosity-driven work is where every meaningful breakthrough in my career has come from. Here's the core idea: Build the next chapter before you're paid. Your portfolio becomes your future. The work you make on your own time — without guarantees — becomes proof of what you're capable of next. Clients don't hire potential. Investors don't fund intentions. They respond to momentum, prototypes, and evidence. Whether you're trying to pivot creatively, grow your business, or step into a new role, the path forward is the same: start making the work now. Use what you already do to fund exploration. Let your community become your laboratory. Create first. Refine along the way. This isn't about reckless leaps or quitting your job tomorrow. It's about building in parallel — putting money in the bank while you develop the skills, projects, and ideas that point toward where you actually want to go. In today's episode I cover: Why your personal work drives your biggest professional breakthroughs How prototypes open doors faster than pitches Why your portfolio is the roadmap to your next chapter If you've been waiting for someone else to greenlight your growth, this episode is an invitation to start now — to explore what you're curious about and build something real before expecting the world to catch up. Until next time, create first — and remember: your next chapter starts with what you make today.
