Fellowship with God - Leviticus 3 - Marc Howie
“The Scripture stories do not, like Homer's, court our favor, they do not flatter us that they may please us and enchant us — they seek to subject us, and if we refuse to be subjected we are rebels.”— Erich Auerbach“In the self-assured world of modernity people seek to make sense of the Scriptures, instead of hoping, with the aid of the Scriptures, to make some sense of themselves.”— Nicholas Lash Leviticus 9:22-10:3
Send us a text“And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: ‘Also the tenth day of this seventh month shall be the Day of Atonement. It shall be a holy convocation for you; you shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire to the Lord. And you shall do no work on that same day, for it is the Day of Atonement, to make atonement for you before the Lord your God” (Leviticus 23:26-28).“But this Man (Jesus the Christ), after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God, from that time waiting till His enemies are made His footstool. For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified. “But the Holy Spirit also witnesses to us; for after He had said before, “‘This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds I will write them,' then He adds, ‘Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.' Now where there is remission of these, there is no longer an offering for sin. “Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, and having a High Priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful” (Hebrews 10:12-23). Your Word says, “It shall be a statute forever throughout your generations in all your dwellings” (v. 31).Written and sent out from the morning prayer time of Tommy Hays each day.God bless you and may you have a great day!—Tommy Hays | Messiah Ministrieshttp://messiah-ministries.org

Drawing Near to God - Leviticus 1 - Mark Howie
Blood, water & the presence of a Holy God || Leviticus 19:1-16 || Andrew Barry
Leviticus can be a difficult book to understand, and people who skim through it might find it to be one of those irrelevant parts of the Bible they hear about. But if we hear what the book is saying to us over and over to help make sense of it, all the hard to understand parts make a lot more sense. The phrase “Be holy for I'm holy” and variations of it recur eleven times in the book, and it's here that we start to make sense of what's going on. In this message, Pastor Joel explains what holiness actually is and why, despite seeming irrelevant to us today, Leviticus and holiness are so important in our own discipleship walks.
Leviticus is one of the hardest books for a modern Western person to understand. Full of ancient rituals, rules, and regulations, it's hard to understand, especially when we so firmly believe in the simplicity of the gospel of Jesus: where faith and grace are the foundations of our relationship. But despite the fact that it seems opposed to those foundations, Leviticus has a lot to say to us about how we can get close to God in very practical ways. In this opening message to a five week series, Pastor Julie explains how relationship is essential in Leviticus, and why that matters for us today.
Speak to the people of Israel and say to them, I am the Lord your God (Leviticus 18:2). Thank you, Father!
American Atheists propose another apparent contradiction. Here is what they say:“… Thou shalt not let any of thy seed pass through the fire to Molech, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God…” — Leviticus 18:21[In Judges, though, the tale of Jephthah, who led the Israelites against the Ammonoites (sic), is being told. Being fearful of defeat, this good religious man sought to guarantee victory by getting god firmly on his side. So he prayed to god] “… If thou shalt without fail deliver the children of Ammon into mine hands, Then it shall be, that whatsoever cometh forth of the doors of my house to meet me, when I return in peace from the children of Ammon, shall surely be the LORD's, and I will offer it up for a burnt offering” — Judges 11:30-31[The terms were acceptable to god — remember, he is supposed to be omniscient and know the future — so he gave victory to Jephthah, and the first whatsoever that greeted him upon his glorious return was his daughter, as god surely knew would happen, if god is god. True to his vow, the general made a human sacrifice of his only child to god!] — Judges 11:29-34[Quoted from their website here:https://www.atheists.org/activism/resources/biblical-contradictions/]Can three Christians deal with it? It's my prayer that God would use the law of Moses in Leviticus as schoolmaster to bring us to Christ (Gal. 3:23-24, KJV). Only Christ is able to perfectly keep every meticulous detail of God's commands here, and He did it all so that unacceptable sinners like us might be acceptable to God through Him. Big Idea: God accepts sinners through His meticulous design of a priestly sacrifice. God accepts sinners through…(1) Sacrifice (Lev. 1:1-7:38; 24:1-4 lamps with 6:12-13 fire at altar; […]

Why is it so dangerous to be near God-- Leviticus 11 looks forward to the evening sermon on the coming Lord's Day. In these forty-seven verses of Holy Scripture, the Holy Spirit teaches us that there is great danger in belonging to and drawing near to the holy God because those who do so must be holy themselves.

God is very aware of our weaknesses, yet He still created a plan for our redemption; it's an amazing statement of grace. In this sermon, Pastor Allen Jackson talks about the book of Leviticus and what the Hebrew people needed to do to please God. Being familiar with the Old Testament will help us understand the New Testament. When we give our lives to Jesus and offer ourselves as living sacrifices, we strengthen the Church, build His Kingdom, please Him, and invite His blessings. Rev. Bill Berry preaches from Leviticus 24-25 reminding us to live life before the face of God.
God's people belong to Him and are set apart in Him from the world - therefore, we are called to live in accord with that calling.
On the first day of public worship, the glory of God show up - and His judgment falls.

Wayne Stiles teaches from Leviticus 11 how we can apply the timeless truths of Israel's kosher laws to our lives today. In truth, a kosher walk with God was never about food alone—but food merely helped facilitate a holy life and pointed us to our holy God.
Wayne Stiles teaches from Leviticus 8 three ways to devote your life to God. Because the Lord has called us out of darkness into His marvelous light, we should have ears to hear, hands to work, and feet to follow.
We begin our new study in Leviticus being reminded that Leviticus is a continuation of the redemption story.
“The Fatherlike Characteristic of An Avenger” Show Description: What does Avenger mean in the Bible? Avenger translates Hebrew go'el , which in its verbal form means to redeem. Redemption applies to repossessing things consecrated to God (Leviticus 27:13-31 ) or to God's actions for His people (Exodus 6:6; Job 19:25; Psalm 103:4; Isaiah 43:1 ). This podcast with Jaime Luce is a discussion of the redeeming characteristic of a Father who seeks to redeem or repossess. It is interesting that in our modern parlance we would consider an “avenger” as someone who seeks revenge. However, this is not the original Hebrew meaning of the word. The characteristic of an Avenger is someone who redeems. Jaime reveals this understanding of an avenger in Hebrew. The classic story of an avenger is a Kinsman Redeemer and the prototypical Biblical character who depicts the Kinsman Redeemer is Boaz. Every woman seeks a Boaz for her husband. Someone who will support her. Someone who will provide, protect, and mentor her in life. These are all characteristics of a true father. These are the same characteristics of a Kinsman Redeemer. Come listen to Jaime describe these characteristics and the underlying truth behind the story of Ruth. A Kinsman Redeemer is someone in our bloodline who is willing to step up to the plate and take responsibility for us. These responsibilities are not lightly taken. In Hebrew tradition, a Kinsman Redeemer had to be willing to take on three responsibilities. Come listen to what they are. Come listen to how Ruth's story describes our lives in many ways and how each of us needs a Kinsman Redeemer to be our personal Avenger. Boaz is a figure of Christ and he stepped up to the plate for Ruth, just as Yeshua did the same for each one of us. Come listen and enjoy our discussion and the story that Jaime presents. If you are looking for someone to have your back, come listen and maybe you will find Him. Come and listen, enjoy, and connect with God Your Father's Perspective! Abe Hardoon is a new teacher at Vital Transformation. Sukkot[a] is a Torah-commanded holiday celebrated for seven days from the 15th day of the month of Tishrei. It is one of the Three Pilgrimage Festivals (Hebrew: שלוש רגלים, shalosh regalim) on which those Israelites who could were commanded to make a pilgrimage to the Temple in Jerusalem. The names used in the Torah are Chag HaAsif, translated to "Festival of Ingathering" or "Harvest Festival", and Chag HaSukkot, translated to "Festival of Booths". This corresponds to the double significance of Sukkot. The one mentioned in the Book of Exodus is agricultural in nature—"Festival of Ingathering at the year's end" (Exodus 34:22)—and marks the end of the harvest time and thus of the agricultural year in the Land of Israel. The more elaborate religious significance from the Book of Leviticus is that of commemorating the Exodus and the dependence of the People of Israel on the will of God (Leviticus 23:42–43). It is also sometimes called the "Feast of Tabernacles." The holiday lasts seven days in the Land of Israel and eight in the diaspora. The first day (and second day in the diaspora) is a Shabbat-like holiday when work is forbidden. This is followed by intermediate days called Chol Hamoed, when certain work is permitted. The festival is closed with another Shabbat-like holiday called Shemini Atzeret (one day in the Land of Israel, two days in the diaspora, where the second day is called Simchat Torah). Shemini Atzeret coincides with the eighth day of Sukkot outside the Land of Israel. To support Eliyahu Jian's work, visit https://vitaltransformation.org/donate Got a question? Rev. Jason Piland “Speak to all the congregation of the people of Israel and say to them, You shall be holy, for I the LORD your God am holy. (Leviticus 19:2 ESV)
“If his offering for a sacrifice of fellowship offering to the Lord is an animal from the flock, male or female, he shall offer it without blemish. 7 If he offers a lamb for his offering, then he shall offer it before the Lord, 8 lay his hand on the head of his offering, and kill it in front of the tent of meeting; and Aaron's sons shall throw its blood against the sides of the altar. 9 Then from the sacrifice of the fellowship offering he shall offer as a food offering to the Lord its fat; he shall remove the whole fat tail, cut off close to the backbone, and the fat that covers the entrails and all the fat that is on the entrails 10 and the two kidneys with the fat that is on them at the loins and the long lobe of the liver that he shall remove with the kidneys. 11 And the priest shall burn it on the altar as a food offering to the Lord.…All fat is the Lord's. 17 It shall be a statute forever throughout your generations, in all your dwelling places, that you eat neither fat nor blood.”And the flesh of the sacrifice of his fellowship offerings for thanksgiving shall be eaten on the day of his offering. He shall not leave any of it until the morning. 16 But if the sacrifice of his offering is a vow offering or a freewill offering, it shall be eaten on the day that he offers his sacrifice, and on the next day what remains of it shall be eaten. 17 But what remains of the flesh of the sacrifice on the third day shall be burned up with fire. 18 If any of the flesh of the sacrifice of his fellowship offering is eaten on the third day, he who offers it shall not be accepted, neither shall it be credited to him. It is tainted, and he who eats of it shall bear his iniquity.19 “Flesh that touches any unclean thing shall not be eaten. It shall be burned up with fire. All who are clean may eat flesh, 20 but the person who eats of the flesh of the sacrifice of the Lord's fellowship offerings while an uncleanness is on him, that person shall be cut off from his people. 21 And if anyone touches an unclean thing, whether human uncleanness or an unclean beast or any unclean detestable creature, and then eats some flesh from the sacrifice of the Lord's fellowship offerings, that person shall be cut off from his people.”1. Are you a feaster? Can you share about a memorable feast? What made it memorable? 2. Does it seem credible that feasting is what God wants for you and with you? Do you view God as a feaster? 3. What do you feast on without God? How does it reduce your humanity? 4. How does communion build on the fellowship offering? Does it feel like a feast with God to you? How can it more so? 5. “Feasting through Jesus means feasting with Jesus' people.” Do you agree? Is that encouraging or burdensome to you? 6. How can you be more intentional about feasting with God?

“When anyone brings a grain offering as an offering to the Lord, his offering shall be of fine flour. He shall pour oil on it and put frankincense on it 2 and bring it to Aaron's sons the priests. And he shall take from it a handful of the fine flour and oil, with all of its frankincense, and the priest shall burn this as its memorial portion on the altar, a food offering with a pleasing aroma to the Lord. 3 But the rest of the grain offering shall be for Aaron and his sons; it is a most holy part of the Lord's food offerings.4 “When you bring a grain offering baked in the oven as an offering, it shall be unleavened loaves of fine flour mixed with oil or unleavened wafers smeared with oil. 5 And if your offering is a grain offering baked on a griddle, it shall be of fine flour unleavened, mixed with oil. 6 You shall break it in pieces and pour oil on it; it is a grain offering. 7 And if your offering is a grain offering cooked in a pan, it shall be made of fine flour with oil. 8 And you shall bring the grain offering that is made of these things to the Lord, and when it is presented to the priest, he shall bring it to the altar. 9 And the priest shall take from the grain offering its memorial portion and burn this on the altar, a food offering with a pleasing aroma to the Lord. 10 But the rest of the grain offering shall be for Aaron and his sons; it is a most holy part of the Lord's food offerings.11 “No grain offering that you bring to the Lord shall be made with leaven, for you shall burn no leaven nor any honey as a food offering to the Lord. 12 As an offering of firstfruits you may bring them to the Lord, but they shall not be offered on the altar for a pleasing aroma. 13 You shall season all your grain offerings with salt. You shall not let the salt of the covenant with your God be missing from your grain offering; with all your offerings you shall offer salt.14 “If you offer a grain offering of firstfruits to the Lord, you shall offer for the grain offering of your firstfruits fresh ears, roasted with fire, crushed new grain. 15 And you shall put oil on it and lay frankincense on it; it is a grain offering. 16 And the priest shall burn as its memorial portion some of the crushed grain and some of the oil with all of its frankincense; it is a food offering to the Lord.1. Does it make sense that God would want gifts from us? How would you explain that to someone unfamiliar with the bible?2. Do you wonder if God is indifferent or disappointed with your gifts? Do you find it hard to give gifts to God? If so, why?3. Do our gifts pacify God? Buy him off? If not, what is their role? How does the salt of the covenant clarify this? 4. Do you experience the sacred/secular divide in your life? How so?5. Do you hope to do more of life “in Jesus' name”? What might that look like for you?
The Lord called Moses and spoke to him from the tent of meeting, saying, 2 “Speak to the people of Israel and say to them, When any one of you brings an offering to the Lord, you shall bring your offering of livestock from the herd or from the flock.3 “If his offering is a burnt offering from the herd, he shall offer a male without blemish. He shall bring it to the entrance of the tent of meeting, that he may be accepted before the Lord. 4 He shall lay his hand on the head of the burnt offering, and it shall be accepted for him to make atonement for him. 5 Then he shall kill the bull before the Lord, and Aaron's sons the priests shall bring the blood and throw the blood against the sides of the altar that is at the entrance of the tent of meeting. 6 Then he shall flay the burnt offering and cut it into pieces, 7 and the sons of Aaron the priest shall put fire on the altar and arrange wood on the fire. 8 And Aaron's sons the priests shall arrange the pieces, the head, and the fat, on the wood that is on the fire on the altar; 9 but its entrails and its legs he shall wash with water. And the priest shall burn all of it on the altar, as a burnt offering, a food offering with a pleasing aroma to the Lord.10 “If his gift for a burnt offering is from the flock, from the sheep or goats, he shall bring a male without blemish, 11 and he shall kill it on the north side of the altar before the Lord, and Aaron's sons the priests shall throw its blood against the sides of the altar. 12 And he shall cut it into pieces, with its head and its fat, and the priest shall arrange them on the wood that is on the fire on the altar, 13 but the entrails and the legs he shall wash with water. And the priest shall offer all of it and burn it on the altar; it is a burnt offering, a food offering with a pleasing aroma to the Lord.14 “If his offering to the Lord is a burnt offering of birds, then he shall bring his offering of turtledoves or pigeons. 15 And the priest shall bring it to the altar and wring off its head and burn it on the altar. Its blood shall be drained out on the side of the altar. 16 He shall remove its crop with its contents and cast it beside the altar on the east side, in the place for ashes. 17 He shall tear it open by its wings, but shall not sever it completely. And the priest shall burn it on the altar, on the wood that is on the fire. It is a burnt offering, a food offering with a pleasing aroma to the Lord.1.
