Welcome to The Daily, where we study the Bible verse by verse, chapter by chapter, every single day. Don't forget today we drop a chapter review of Mark 2 on The Weekly Vince Miller Show; check that out. It will add some perspective on Jesus by looking at Chapter 2 from a slightly higher level. I would love to give a shout-out today to Joseph Myall from Klamath Falls, OR. Thanks for being a partner with the ministry. We cannot do what we do without the faithful support of families like yours. This is for you, Joseph! Today, we're looking at Mark 2:23-28: One Sabbath he was going through the grainfields, and as they made their way, his disciples began to pluck heads of grain. And the Pharisees were saying to him, “Look, why are they doing what is not lawful on the Sabbath?” And he said to them, “Have you never read what David did, when he was in need and was hungry, he and those who were with him: how he entered the house of God, in the time of Abiathar the high priest, and ate the bread of the Presence, which it is not lawful for any but the priests to eat, and also gave it to those who were with him?” And he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. So the Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath.” — Mark 2:23-28 Jesus and his disciples were walking through a field on the Sabbath, and they casually picked grain to eat. It was a simple, innocent act. An everyday moment. However, the religious leaders turned it into a legal trap and dispute. To them, the issue was not their present physical hunger but religious rebellion. The religious leaders had built layers of tradition over centuries around God's commands—so many that they'd lost sight of the heart behind the law. Jesus answers with an account they'd all remember: David, while running for his life, was also hungry and desperate and ate not merely grain in a field but the sacred bread from within the Temple. It wasn't sanctioned, yet God didn't condemn him. Because sometimes, mercy takes precedence. Then Jesus offers a correction they didn't expect: “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.” In other words, the Sabbath isn't a burden—it's a blessing. A time for rest, renewal, and remembering who provides everything we need. Then, Jesus takes his point to a whole new level. He claims authority not just to interpret the Sabbath but to own it: “The Son of Man [Jesus] is Lord even of the Sabbath.” This wasn't about rules—it was about who rules. Jesus was declaring that true spiritual rest isn't found in rules. Rest is found in Him. and of course, they missed the point he was making. Just like they did, we miss the point: We still fall into the same trap. We turn faith into performance. We hustle for approval. We keep spiritual scorecards. But Jesus invites us to something entirely different—not a religion to prove, rules to follow, but a relationship to enjoy. Spiritual rest isn't earned. It's received. And real rest begins when we trust that his work—not ours—is what makes us right with God. #LordOfTheSabbath, #SabbathRest, #MercyNotRules ASK THIS: Why do you think the Pharisees had such a hard time letting go of their rules? In what ways do you find your worth in performance instead of God's presence? What would it look like for you to receive Sabbath as a gift, not a burden? Where is Jesus inviting you to stop striving and simply rest? DO THIS: Set aside 10 minutes today to stop and rest in God's presence. No agenda, no noise. Just be still and let Jesus remind you that you're not defined by what you do—but by who He is. PRAY THIS: Jesus, thank you for being my rest. Teach me to slow down, to trust your provision, and to find peace in your presence—not my performance. Amen. PLAY THIS: Run To The Father.

Bible Reading: Matthew 25:14-21Hunter and his dad chose a spot in the backyard to set up the rain gauge Hunter had made at school. He was proud of the hollow tube and its funnel-like top. "This is the best school project ever," he said. "I hope it rains soon!" "Hunter," Mom said when he came inside, "Mr. Blake isn't feeling well, and he's afraid his garbage cans might roll out into the street if they stay in his driveway. Would you go bring in his trash cans?""Okay," said Hunter, and he headed out the door. He returned a few minutes later and sighed heavily. "What's wrong?" asked Mom. "Mr. Blake seems to be sick a lot," said Hunter. "And I know he's sad about losing his wife. I wish I could do something more to help him. When I brought his trash cans in, I noticed paint peeling off his house. I wish I could paint his house for him!" A timer beeped, and Mom pulled brownies from the oven. "Well, you may not be able to paint his house, but you can run some of these over to Mr. Blake. That'll cheer him up.""Okay. But it'd be cool to do something big instead of just this little stuff." Mom smiled at him. "I know it may not seem like much, but remember the Bible says that we serve Jesus by serving others. By helping Mr. Blake--even in small ways--you're showing him the love of Jesus."Later that day, it began to sprinkle, so Hunter and his parents went to check his rain gauge. "It's collecting water!" Hunter said."Good," said Dad. "But this is a very light rainfall. It will take a lot more rain than this to really measure water in your gauge.""Maybe," said Hunter. "But look! A little water is running into it--and every drop counts! The water will build up over time.""You're right," Mom said. "Every little bit does count, and you know what? Every little thing you do for Jesus counts too. No matter how small or insignificant it may seem.""You mean like the stuff I do to help Mr. Blake?" asked Hunter."Yes," said Mom. "Jesus can use it to show him a big picture of God's love."–Nance E. KeyesHow About You?Do you think the small things you do for others don't amount to much? Do you wish you could do something big? The Bible tells us Jesus came down from heaven to serve us by dying for our sins, and He wants us to serve others--even when it doesn't seem like much to us. He uses the small things we say and do to show people how much He loves them. Serve Jesus by serving others.Today's Key Verse:The Son of Man [Jesus] did not come to be served, but to serve. Monday, 7 April 2025 Now when the multitudes saw it, they marveled and glorified God, who had given such power to men. Matthew 9:8 “And the crowds having seen, they marveled, and they glorified God, the ‘having given such authority' to men” (CG). In the previous verse, the healed paralytic arose and departed to his house. With his healing and ability to arise and depart, Matthew next records, “And the crowds having seen, they marveled.” This wasn't something done in a corner. Rather, there were many witnesses including the scribes. Because of this, it could not later be denied that it took place. And more, because all three synoptic gospels record the event, there is a reliable, historical witness to the fact in the pages of the Bible. But for the immediate time, what the crowds saw stunned them. As it was in a city, it would have been known that this man was a paralytic. It wasn't as if it could have been faked by shipping him in from another town. Rather, he went to his house, meaning he was a local. Because of the obvious miracle that took place, it next says, “and they glorified God.” This is the reason why God does what He does. He did not need to create, but He did. He did not need to create sentient life, but He did. When man fell, God was under no obligation to bring him back to a state of restoration. Despite Israel's constant and continuous rejection of Him, God has maintained them as a people, just as He said He would when He covenanted with them. God's glory and the recognition of it is the purpose of all such things. But it is not a selfish glory that demands it to be given. Rather, free will is associated with man's ability to glorify or reject God. For those who glorify God, they share in the goodness of what God has done. Thus, it is not a one-sided thing that takes place. Understanding this, the reason for their glorifying God is next stated, saying He is “the ‘having given such authority' to men.” A new word, toioutos, is introduced here. It is a demonstrative pronoun translated as “such.” It is derived from toi, the, and houtos, this. As such, it signifies “truly this,” and thus, “of this sort.” It denotes character or individuality. In other words, God made Himself and His power evident through a particular Man. Thus, He has brought glory to Himself in this manner. At this point, it was still not known what sort of Man Jesus is. Instead, they assumed that God was working through a man who could have been any man. Eventually, those who continued to follow and experience the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus would learn the full details of who Jesus is. What may be the more relevant issue that is being dealt with here, however, is not the physical healing of the paralytic. Jesus has already been recorded as having done that. He has also healed many others in a similar manner. The more important issue is that He had just said that the man's sins were forgiven. This is what got the scribes upset, accusing Him of blasphemy. Jesus prodded them concerning which was easier. The implication was that His words concerning forgiveness were. Therefore, in healing the man, it is implied that the forgiveness Jesus spoke of previously was granted as well. This would then lead to the marveling of the crowds. What authority God has given to Man. Indeed! Life application: The Bible is the written record of what has occurred in redemptive history. It details God's workings in and through Christ in order to reconcile us to Himself. Is it reliable? If you are unsure, it is incumbent upon you to verify it in your own mind. Or, if you are challenged by someone as to why you believe it, can you defend your faith? Even if you cannot, if someone challenges you, the onus is on that person to make his claims for or against the word. This was the case with Simon Greenleaf. He was a non-believer, but he was one of the greatest legal minds in history. He was a principal founder of Harvard law school. At one point, he was challenged by a student to look at the gospels from a legal standpoint. As an intellectually honest person, he took the challenge, setting aside any presuppositions or biases. In doing so, he concluded that the gospels hold the topmost weight of legal accuracy. His basis for this was that “Every document, apparently ancient, coming from the proper repository or custody, and bearing on its face no evident marks of forgery, the law presumes to be genuine, and devolves on the opposing party the burden of proving it to be otherwise.” His conclusion was that the gospels bore this stamp of authenticity and were, in fact, what they claimed to be. As such, he states – “The foundation of our belief is a basis of fact - the fact of the birth, ministry, miracles, death, resurrection by the Evangelists as having actually occurred, within their own personal knowledge it was therefore impossible that they could have persisted in affirming the truths they have narrated, had not Jesus actually rose from the dead, and had they not known this fact as certainly as they knew any other fact.” Simon Greenleaf surrendered his life to Christ, knowing that no legal case could suitably challenge the Bible's genuineness. Be sure of your faith by being sure of what the basis for your faith is. Read this word, study this word, and cherish this word. Be ready to defend it and also be ready to challenge those who dismiss it. Implore them to be as intellectually honest as Simon Greenleaf and to do their own evaluation of it – to the glory of God. Lord God, we know Your word is true, but we also need to know how to defend what we believe. Help us in this endeavor. Remind us of the things we know, and help us to build upon that knowledge from day to day so that when we are challenged, we can respond in a manner that glorifies You. Help us in this, O God. Amen.
Monday, 31 March 2025 So He got into a boat, crossed over, and came to His own city. Matthew 9:1 “And having entered the boat, He through-crossed, and He came into His own city” (CG). The previous verse ended Chapter 8 as it completed the account of the two demon-possessed men. Now, with Jesus and His disciples having been asked to depart from the region, it next says, “And having entered the boat.” They had come from Capernaum to this area, having passed over from there. Now departed, it says, “He through-crossed.” This is a new word, diaperaó, coming from dia, through, and peran, which signifies beyond, over, the other side, etc. Thus, it signifies to cross entirely, from one side to the other. To keep the words in line with the Greek, through-crossed gets the point across. In their through-crossing, it next says, “and He came into His own city.” Another new word is seen, idios. It signifies that which pertains to self, such as one's own, or something private or separate, etc. In this case, it is referring to Jesus' city, Capernaum, where He had set as the base for His ministry. Life application: The trip from Capernaum to the Gergesenes and back was short but filled with action. The seas raged, the disciples feared, Jesus calmed the sea, and the disciples marveled, wondering what kind of Man Jesus was. From there they landed on the shore, met with the demon-possessed men, and Jesus ejected the demons from them into pigs, bringing the men to a right state. From there, they departed and went right back to Capernaum. The Bible is highlighting Jesus, His actions, and His work. We should pay heed to what we are seeing. A storm arose and He calmed it. A spiritual storm arose in the men, and Jesus calmed it. We are being shown the nature of the Man that the disciples couldn't seem to grasp, even though they were right there with Him watching the things He did. He commanded a person to be healed who wasn't even in His presence. He also healed a leper by touching Him. Rather than becoming unclean, He remained clean and the leper was cleansed. Jesus thereby demonstrated that He was greater than the law even though He submitted to the law. As the law was given by God to Israel through Moses, we are being shown the true nature of the Man. If you are struggling with the idea of Jesus' deity, you are struggling against the word of God. God, through His word, is conveying to us information about what He has done in and through the Person of Jesus. Don't fret about this matter! Accept it by faith. Jesus Christ is the God/Man. When we pray to God through Jesus, we have all the power in the universe hearing our prayers. He will respond accordingly. Trust that it is so. Heavenly Father, we thank You for what You have done for us in sending Jesus. Help us in our times of lacking trust. Help us in our weak faith. Strengthen us through Your word so that we can always feel confident as we walk in this world, awaiting the day when we will be brought near to You forever. Amen.

Scripture - Luke 18:1-8; “The Widow's Plea” The Parable: “The Widow's Plea” is an earthly narrative with a heavenly meaning - We should always pray and not give up! This is a story that lets us know that there will be challenges and difficulties that we all will face. But in this parable Jesus is teaching us to endure - to not give up and to do so through prayer - leaning into Him and trusting Him. The parable begins be telling of a judge that didn't know God and didn't care at all about people - and there's a widow that continues to go to the judge for justice against her adversary. Over and over again and again she goes to him and each time he refuses to help her until he gets so tired of her continually pursuing him for justice that he finally gives in so she would leave him alone. Jesus goes on, “and will not God bring about justice for His chosen ones who cry out to Him day and night? Will He keep putting them off?” Many interpret this to mean we need to be relentless in pounding on God's door for what is just and what is right and what we need. But what Jesus is actually doing is challenging us to compare what we know of the unjust judge to what we know about him, the righteous judge,The Living God, who cares for us all. The unjust judge doesn't care about this widow, he only care about himself. God is NOT like that! GOD CARES! Jesus is saying that if even an unjust judge responds to pleas, don't you know God who sees His children as precious will care so much more and will respond to His children. God is good and gracious and nothing like this unjust judge. When things are rough and it seems that God is not listening, that is NOT the case! For our God is a righteous and caring judge! Let's compare the two: The Judge ⁃ Unjust ⁃ Unloving ⁃ Uncaring ⁃ Merciless ⁃ Evil ⁃ Rude God ⁃ Just ⁃ Loving ⁃ Caring ⁃ Merciful ⁃ Good ⁃ Gracious God wants us to always pray and not give up. The Lord wants us to bring our needs to Him, our concerns and worries to Him, our struggles, our cries and our pleas and to understand how good He is. PRAYER MAKES GOD REAL! When we talk to God and bring to Him the cares and concerns of our lives - His presence becomes real - in that circumstance we are living by faith! We're not giving up hope - We're praying by faith to the Living God. Jesus finishes with, “I tell you, He (The Father) will see that they (His children) get justice, and suddenly. However, when the Son of Man (Jesus) comes, will He find faith on earth?” Jesus is saying here for us not to give up hope. Don't allow the threats of opposition and attacks of the enemy to drive us away from Him, Living God who alone delivers us. Don't allow the opposition of others to take our eyes off the goodness of God and the love of the Lord Jesus Christ. Hang on to your faith!!! Hang on to your faith as never before! How? 1. Pray to God - because prayer makes Him real! 2. Listen to and meditate on His Word 3. Be encouraged by fellow believers, those who have faith to live for God. Pastor shares a powerful story of God's victory in pain from the book “Walk On” by Ben Malcolmson. In Summary, hang onto the Lord!! It's a battle out there, but our God has won the victory. Why We Do Christmas MESSAGE SUMMARY: Introduction: We are still in the season of Advent, which means “coming” or “arrival”. The Church begins this season of “arrival” or Advent as the time we recognize and celebrate the “arrival” of Jesus – both Jesus' “first coming” and His “second coming”. We celebrate Jesus' “first coming” on Christmas Eve. The season of Advent is, also, a season of hope; and Advent is the beginning of our Church's “New Year”. Message: What does Christmas mean to you? “Could we be missing the point of what Christmas is all about”? Irrespective of all the personal, social and cultural noise we encounter around the Christmas season, we must not lose sight of the fact that Christmas is all and only about Jesus. At Christmas, we celebrate the birth of the most important person that ever lived – the God and man Jesus. Is this birth and life of the Incarnate and unique Son of God, as both the Creator of the Universe and the Savior of humankind, true? The answer is a resounding “Yes!” because Jesus birth and life are based upon historical evidence. Also, the birth of Jesus is God coming among us in a desire to have a personal relationship with us and with all people. If God is so desirous of a personal relationship with us, why did God go to so much trouble to bring Jesus to us? Because, every time we sin, we are building a barrier between us and God – God is Holy, and He cannot relate to sin. Therefore, God's Grace provided Jesus as both the means of our Salvation and as an intermediary (i.e. Jesus is both God and a human without sin) from which we can have God's desired personal relationship with us. However, when Jesus died on the cross, He took on all sin and became the required and once offered sacrificial payment for all sin. Jesus birth, life, death and Resurrection became the doorway for our personal relationship with God. As Jesus tells us in Mark 10:45: “For even the Son of Man {Jesus}came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”. “God loves us because of who God is.” Why do so few of us accept God's offered gift of Salvation through His Grace? When those not yet believing look at the lives of those of us that believe, they, often, they see us living by the fruit of the flesh rather than by the fruit of the Spirit – our hypocrisy. Also, God's offer is rejected because He may require us to give up some sin that we enjoy. Additionally, some believe that the cost of becoming a Christian is too great; however, the cost of not becoming a Christian is far greater than the cost of becoming a Christian and accepting God's offer. Many refuse God's gift because they believe that they are not worthy or good enough for God and His gift. They are correct; none of us are worthy of God's gift, but that is the point – Jesus' birth, life, death and Resurrection provide us with the means a path to be worthy of God's gift. Is Jesus your Savior? God has given you the greatest Christmas gift that you will ever receive. Have you accepted His Gift and opened His gift into your life? If not, then why not? With your hands open, you can accept God's Christmas gift by saying: “I am sorry; thank you; and please”. TODAY'S PRAYER: Lord, Sabbath rest is truly an unbelievable gift! Thank you that there is nothing I can do to earn your love; it comes without any strings attached. As I close my eyes for these few minutes before you, all I can say is, thank you! In Jesus' name, amen. Scazzero, Peter. Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Day by Day (p. 133). Zondervan. Kindle Edition. TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: I affirm that because of what God has done for me in His Son, Jesus, I AM FORGIVEN. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9). How was Jesus described and portrayed in John's vision in Revelation 1:9-20? Why did Jesus thus present Himself before John? How can we gain encouragement today in our faith from Jesus as the One Like a Son of Man in Revelation 1:9-4:1? One Like a Son of Man | Jesus in Revelation Outline | Conversation
On this Sunday before Thanksgiving Day, we are thinking about what Jesus did for a man whom Jesus healed, not just from a physical disease, but in a larger sense. He was healed, but Jesus used another word to describe what had taken place - the man was made WHOLE. This story ties right in with the Thanksgiving theme - that of giving thanks. Our prayer is that today's message will help us all to experience true thanksgiving to God - and be made WHOLE also.
Respond by confessing that Jesus is Lord, and you will be saved. The Chairman Of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, throws more light on this in this insightful message titled "The Man Jesus" Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
The perfect Man Jesus prayed. What should be your response? The answer might surprise you.

September 16, 2024 Today's Reading: Isaiah 50:4-10Daily Lectionary: 2 Chronicles 35:1-7, 16-25; Zephaniah 1:1-3:20; Colossians 3:1-25“He who vindicates me is near…” (Isaiah 50:8)In the Name + of Jesus. Amen. In the words of Isaiah the prophet, we hear our Lord, the Man Jesus, who suffers as the holy and righteous Servant of God. As a man, He hears the Word of God, learns it, grows in the knowledge of it, and obeys it (see Luke 2:52). He does not exercise His human will in rebellion to His Father's (and His) divine will. He goes willingly to the suffering and death that is the wages of human sin. He gives His back to those who strike and His face to those who pull out the beard. He does not hide from disgrace and spitting. The Lamb goes uncomplaining forth. But He doesn't do this for Himself. He does it for you. His knowledge, earned in the flesh by His life, suffering, and death, is for all the unrighteous, for those who do not do the will of God, who do not want to hear His Word, and who rebel against Him. “Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satisfied; by his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant, make many to be accounted righteous, and he shall bear their iniquities.” (Isaiah 53:11).He knows His Father and has full human trust in Him. So He knows that He will not be left in the humiliation of the cross or ashamed in His trust. The Father raises Him from the dead and vindicates Him. So we, too, have been given Jesus' holy confidence in the Father: “Behold, the Lord God helps me; who will declare me guilty?” (Isaiah 50:9a). Paul says it this way: “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? Who shall bring any charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies. Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.” (Romans 8:31-34).The One who has been vindicated in righteousness, the Holy One whom the Father would not let see decay in the grave, now stands alive forever, interceding for you by His death and resurrection. If this is how God has helped you, neither sin nor death nor anything else can condemn you as guilty. Nothing in all creation will be able to separate you from the love of God that is Christ Jesus, our Lord. If God is for you, who can be against you?In the Name + of Jesus. Amen.O Lord God, You have justified and vindicated us in Christ. Cause all those who walk in darkness to trust You, the Light of the world, and keep us forever in that same faith. Amen.-Rev. Timothy Winterstein is pastor at Faith Lutheran Church, East Wenatchee, Washington.Audio Reflections Speaker: Pastor Jonathan Lackey is the pastor at Grace Lutheran Church, Vine Grove, KY.The new Guiding Word series takes you through all the books of the Bible in six volumes. Garth Heckman The David Alliance BAM - watch them every Tuesday night on our Facebook page. This Week the Jezebel Spirit… and not just women have it. August Friday and Saturday 16th 17th End times conference at HillSpring Church sponsored by The David Alliance, Whats your greatest temptation… mine? Simple and its not sex… My wife is good to me. It is a Chocolate cream filled donut… I believe its a Bavarian creme type… the donut itself is chocolate dough, the frosting is chocolate and the filing is white cream filled… I really don't know the actual name of this donut… but I will eat them at any time, any where and any place. Matthew 4 Jesus was tempted by satan… Satan tempted Jesus… why? Did he really think he would win this fight with Jesus… he would actually pull one over on Jesus… why again… why would he even try? We hear often that Jesus laid down his humanity and became man. He then lived a sinless life by relying on the Holy Spirit. What am I trying to say? satan's behavior agrees with this. He sees Jesus as a man, vulnerable… just like any other human… he believes it is possible to get Jesus to sin… Look he didn't tempt him in heaven? But when he sees that he truly laid down his God nature, gave up his deity while here on earth… satan was like “game on”. And satan threw everything including the kitchen sink at him. He was tested body, soul and spirit… Body - his fleshly appetite Soul - His ego his reputation Spirit - who he would worship Hebrews 4:15 says Jesus was tempted in every way…. Again I just can't get over how ballsy it seems to tempt satan… but my mind struggles to see Jesus as human… but he was. With this truth in mind… my excuses as to why I sin, struggle and fall are up in flames… Jesus was a man… Im a man… Jesus depended on the Holy Spirit and was sinless Garth depends on the Holy Spirit and is kinda, a little, well trying… ok, Im not sinless. Im not saying it's not impossible… but I also honestly know I don't always rely in all areas on the Holy Spirit like I should. My point is this - Jesus was a man just like you. You are a man just like Jesus. Jesus lived sinless by dependance on the HS You and I can live sinless by dependence on the HS
Some Biblical Unitarians (believers in the One God, the Father), don't see the man Jesus in the first verses of John's Gospel. Instead, they understand the Word/Logos” as an abstract plan, design, promise or wisdom that is only personified (described as if it were a person). Trinitarian “diety-of-Christ” and “Arian” believers likewise don't see the human person, the human being Jesus of Nazareth in the first verses of John's Gospel. They see only a “divine being/person who became flesh” – but this podcast is not directed toward them. They have bigger problems. This podcast should challenge believers in One God, the Father, to see that the “personified plan, purpose, wisdom” interpretation of John's Prologue falls short. I asked fourteen One God, the Father believers who have lectured or written about their abstract personification interpretation of John's Prologue, this question: “At what place in John 1 do you first see the man Christ Jesus of Nazareth or his ministry, either metaphorically or literally, being the subject?“ Their answers should be enlightening. Christ's Advance Man - Matthew 3:1-12 The Law and the Prophets were until John; since then the good news of the kingdom of God is preached… - Luke 16:16a In all 4 gospels Jesus' public ministry began after His baptism by John the Baptist. Of the 283 verses in the first four gospels leading up to Christ's baptism, 135 (48%) are about His prophesied advance man, John the Baptist. The man, the message, and the movement - V. 1-6 The man And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High; for you will go before the Lord to prepare His ways, to give knowledge of salvation to His people in the forgiveness of their sins… -Luke 1:16-17 The message The word repent is the Greek word, “metanoia,” which means “change of mind.” True repentance is seen when that change of mind leads to change of direction and change of actions. The Kingdom was at hand because Jesus the King was at hand! There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. He came as a witness, to bear witness about the light, that all might believe through him. He was not the light, but came to bear witness about the light. - John 1:6-8 The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! This is He of whom I said, After me comes a man who ranks before me, because He WAS before me.” - John 1:29-30 “He (Jesus) must increase, and I must decrease.” - John 3:30 Many came to Jesus and said, “John never did a sign (miracle), but everything John said about this Man (Jesus) was true.” And many of them believed in Him there. - John 10:41-42 The movement Now we to understand that this was a unique baptism, different than Christian baptism (Acts 19). The symbolism was powerful. Jews of the day had begun baptizing Gentile converts to Judaism, but never Jews. John The Baptist was saying the entire filthy nation needed to be washed! He was calling them to both repentance of sin and readiness to follow Jesus. The moral courage to rebuke the unrepentant V. 7-12 If your way of fleeing the wrath to come is as self-centered & self-focused as the religious leaders who came to JTB, you are heading toward ‘unquenchable fire.' Note the order: first, repent and place faith in Jesus; then, demonstrate your faith by bearing fruit. But to all who did receive Him (Jesus), who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. - John 1:12-13 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing: it is the gift of God, not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. - Ephesians 2:8-10 Truly I say to you, among those born of women there has arisen no one greater than John the Baptist. Yet the one who is least in the Kingdom of Heaven is greater than he. - Matthew 11:11 Which group would you have been in? Repentant and ready for Jesus? Or unrepentant and rejecting of Jesus? “Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” - John 1:29 John's baptism represented cleansing and readiness; Spirit baptism occurs at the moment of salvation for believers (1 Cor. 12:13; Eph. 1:13-14; Jn 7:37-39); Baptism with fire represents the coming judgment when everyone whose name is not in the Book of Life will be sent to the Lake of Fire (Rev. 20:11-15). It is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment. - Hebrews 9:27
Sermon Notes Luke 9:22-24 NIV And he said, "The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life." Then he said to them all: "Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will save it." Luke 9:31 NIV They (Moses and Elijah) spoke about his departure (exodus), which he was about to bring to fulfillment at Jerusalem. Luke 9:43-45 NIV And they were all amazed at the greatness of God. While everyone was marveling at all that Jesus did, he said to his disciples, "Listen carefully to what I am about to tell you: The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men." But they did not understand what this meant. It was hidden from them, so that they did not grasp it, and they were afraid to ask him about it. Luke 9:51 NIV As the time approached for him to be taken up to heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem. Jesus' reason for existing is abundantly clear to Him: He came to bring glory to His Father by reconciling the world back to Him. Luke 19:10 NIV "For the Son of Man (Jesus) came to seek and to save the lost." Bottom Line: Putting Jesus first means arranging my priorities to match God's priorities. Luke 9:57NIV As they were walking along the road, a man said to him, "I will follow you wherever you go." Luke 9:58 NIV Jesus replied, "Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head." Follow Jesus no matter the cost. Luke 9:59 NIV He said to another man, "Follow me." But he replied, "Lord, first let me go and bury my father." Luke 9:60 NIV Jesus said to him, "Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God." The 10 Commandments: 1. No other gods. 2. Do not make idols. 3. Honor the name of the Lord. 4. Keep the Sabbath holy. 5. Honor your father and your mother. Follow Jesus before your family and social commitments. Luke 9:61 NIV Still another said, "I will follow you, Lord; but first let me go back and say goodbye to my family." Luke 9:62 NIV Jesus replied, "No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God." Follow Jesus and don't look back. 1 Kings 19:19-21 NIV So Elijah went from there and found Elisha son of Shaphat. He was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen, and he himself was driving the twelfth pair. Elijah went up to him and threw his cloak around him. Elisha then left his oxen and ran after Elijah. "Let me kiss my father and mother goodbye," he said, "and then I will come with you." "Go back," Elijah replied. "What have I done to you?" So Elisha left him and went back. He took his yoke of oxen and slaughtered them. He burned the plowing equipment to cook the meat and gave it to the people, and they ate. Then he set out to follow Elijah and became his servant. - Jesus, Matthew 6:10 "Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven." Eugene Peterson calls this "A long obedience in the same direction."

Bible Reading: Ezekiel 34:11-12; Luke 15:3-10Zach ran frantically down the stairs. "Has anyone seen Mr. Bunny?" he cried. "I can't find him anywhere!" "I'm sure he's around here somewhere, Zach," said Mom. "Have you looked in your closet?" "Yes," said Zach. "I've looked in my room and closet, and in Hailey's room too. I just don't know where he could be!" "Try checking the living room, and Hailey and I will check the other rooms downstairs," Mom said. Zach sped off to the living room. "But Mom," said Hailey, "Zach is getting too old to be worrying about a raggedy stuffed animal. It's embarrassing that he takes Mr. Bunny to school with him."Mom bent to look under the kitchen table. "Remember, Hailey, that Zach finds comfort in having familiar things around him. He gets anxious about going to school, and just knowing that Mr. Bunny is in his backpack helps calm him down." "I get it, Mom. I'll help look for Mr. Bunny." Hailey headed to the laundry room. "I found him!" Hailey called a minute later. "He was hiding in the laundry basket under some of Zach's clothes." "Oh, thank you!" cried Zach, and he gave Mr. Bunny a big hug. Mom smiled. "I'm so glad we found Mr. Bunny. It's amazing how much joy we feel when we find something important to us that has been lost. Do you remember the stories of the lost sheep and lost coin in the Bible?" "Yeah," said Hailey. "The shepherd looked all over for the lost sheep, and when he found him, he called all his friends and neighbors over for a party to celebrate! And the lady did the same thing when she found her lost coin.""That's right," Mom said. "But the most important part of those stories is that they illustrate how much joy there is in heaven when someone comes to trust in Jesus. And just like Zach didn't give up looking for Mr. Bunny, God will never give up on us. Jesus came to earth to rescue us when we were lost in sin, and when we are found, God rejoices over us." "I'm so happy about that," said Zach. "And I'm so happy I found Mr. Bunny!"- Lori HaynieHow About You?Have you ever lost something very special to you? How did you feel when you lost it? Sermon Notes Luke 9:22 NIV And he said, "The Son of Man (Jesus) must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life." Luke 9:23 NIV Then he said to them all: "Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me." Luke 9:27 NIV "Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God." Luke 9:28 NIV About eight days after Jesus said this, he took Peter, John and James with him and went up onto a mountain to pray. Luke 9:29 NIV As he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became as bright as a flash of lightning. Prayer and breakthrough go hand-in-hand. Luke 9:30-31 NIV Two men, Moses and Elijah, appeared in glorious splendor, talking with Jesus. They spoke about his departure, which he was about to bring to fulfillment at Jerusalem. Moses is the great leader and prophet who brought the Law. Elijah was the great prophet who represented all other prophets. Those who die with faith in Jesus are very much alive right now. John 11:25 NIV Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die;" Luke 9:32-33 NIV Peter and his companions were very sleepy, but when they became fully awake, they saw his glory and the two men standing with him. As the men were leaving Jesus, Peter said to him, "Master, it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah." (He did not know what he was saying.)" Prayer is often needed most when you are most weary. Luke 9:34 NIV While he was speaking, a cloud appeared and covered them, and they were afraid as they entered the cloud. Luke 9:35-36 NIV A voice came from the cloud, saying, "This is my Son, whom I have chosen; listen to him." When the voice had spoken, they found that Jesus was alone. The disciples kept this to themselves and did not tell anyone at that time what they had seen. The breakthrough you are looking for comes from a constant connection to God in prayer. Mark 9:28-29 NIV After Jesus had gone indoors, his disciples asked him privately, "Why couldn't we drive it out?" He replied, "This kind can come out only by prayer."
Sermon Notes When the storms of life hit hardest, the Church shines brightest! Luke 9:18-19 NIV Once when Jesus was praying in private and his disciples were with him, he asked them, "Who do the crowds say I am?" They replied, "Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, that one of the prophets of long ago has come back to life." Luke 9:20 NIV "But what about you?" he asked. "Who do you say I am?" Peter answered, "God's Messiah." Matthew 16:17-19 NIV Jesus replied, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven." Church (ekklesia) - the gathering of the called-out ones. "Gathering" implies movement and activity. Gates of Hades - the abode (house) of the dead. Every believer has been called out to plunder life from the grips of death! Luke 9:21-22 NIV Jesus strictly warned them not to tell this to anyone. And he said, "The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life." Luke 9:23-24 NIV Then he said to them all: "Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will save it." Luke 9:25 NIV "What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit their very self?" Luke 9:26 NIV "Whoever is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels." How can I deny myself and find true life? Our Mission is to become like Jesus by living out our Growth Path: Go - who do you know that needs the transforming love of Christ? Connect - imagine a group of people helping each other through life's ups and downs. Give - radical generosity is what shows the world we believe we are blessed to be a blessing. Serve - is the way we show the world we believe we are not here on accident. Mark 10:45 NIV "For even the Son of Man (Jesus) did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."
Bible Reading: Luke 15:1-10Skye slipped out the front door and started down the sidewalk. I'll get back before Mom even misses me, she thought. After turning a corner, Skye heard a dog barking behind her. She was afraid of dogs and began to run. She dodged through a side yard and came out on the next street. Skye was relieved to find that the dog had not followed. She kept walking down the street for a couple blocks before she realized nothing looked familiar. Where am I? she wondered with a feeling of terror."Hi there," said a man who was out working in his yard. "Are you lost?" Skye quickly took off in the opposite direction. She knew she wasn't supposed to talk to strangers. But where's the park? she wondered. After turning another corner, she stood still. Now she was definitely lost. Her eyes filled with tears as she sat down on the curb. After what seemed like a long, long time, a familiar car rounded the corner. It stopped, the door opened, and out jumped Mom. Skye burst into tears, and Mom gathered her into her arms. "I didn't think you'd come," Skye said, sobbing. "I thought you were busy working.""I was working," said Mom. "But when I realized you were missing, I left everything and came looking for you. Nothing could be more important." She looked at Skye. "I don't think I've ever been so glad to see anyone."Skye wiped her eyes. "Even though I did something I wasn't supposed to?""Even though you did something you weren't supposed to," said Mom.Skye burst into tears again. "I'm sorry, Mom.""It's okay," said Mom. "We'll talk more about it at home. Some of our neighbors are looking for you too, and I need to let them know you've been found."As Mom drove, Skye felt relieved she wasn't lost anymore. She remembered a story she'd heard at church about a shepherd who had gone to look for a lost sheep, and how that was like Jesus coming to save those lost in sin. I'm so glad Mom found me, Skye thought. And I'm so glad Jesus found me too. - Hazel W. MarettHow About You?Have you ever been lost? It's a terrible feeling, isn't it? As we continue our week on God's heart to meet with man, today we'll look at the best example I can think of. Many of us doubt the love of God due to all kinds of circumstances, but I pray today you become even a little bit more convinced and sure of his pursuit and unconditional love for you specifically. Open your heart today and allow God to give you a renewed sense of how much you mean to him. Our Scripture for today comes from Matthew 1:23, and today's worship is This Is The Hour by Christy Nockles. -- Thanks for listening to today's podcast. As challenging as it may be, look for an opportunity to bless someone who seems to be against you today. Give them a gift, ask them a meaningful question, look for a way to add value and meet needs in their life. And watch as an act of love carries the power to change the very nature of a perspective, and even a relationship. Make sure to rate and review the podcast today and subscribe if you haven't already. Have a wonderful rest of your day, and may God bless you as you seek him.
