Latest Spoken Label, features our returning friend Susan Darlington talking about her new collection "traumatropic heart". This wonderful collection has being described by: "In taut, precise language, Susan Darlington finds both gothic horror and lusciousness in the world around her. Crammed into display cases and confined in doll's houses, the poet's persona conveys the same brave emancipation of Ibsen's Nora, and - like her - will leave you looking at the world with fresh eyes." Hannah Stone, author of Reflections: A Poet-Theologian in Lockdown Leeds (Maytree Press) and "Like a doll's house, this neat, playful chapbook gives us the world in miniature. Only the wall is off. These poems expose the reader to the elements of Susan Darlington's lucid imagination, vining the body of the speaker to the non-human world and illuminating what natural cycles can transform. Traumatropic Heart is a bewitching read.” Becky Cherriman, author of Empires of Clay (Cinnamon Press). Pieces read out in this session include: 1. Traumatropic heart 2. After the storm has passed 3. The war taught her to fight. The children taught her to hope.... The Schoolteacher of Saint Michel is a heartrending and deeply moving story of love and hope in World War II. From the USA Today best-selling author of The Missing Pieces of Nancy Moon, this exquisitely beautiful novel is perfect for listeners of The Postmistress, Lilac Girls and The Girl from Vichy. 'My darling girl, I need you to find someone for me....' France, 1942. At the end of the day, the schoolteacher releases her pupils. She checks they have their identity passes and warns them not to stop until the German guards have let them through the barrier that separates occupied France from Free France. As the little ones fly across the border and into their mothers' arms, she breathes a sigh of relief. No one is safe now. Not even the children. Berkshire, present day. A letter left to her by her beloved late grandmother Gigi takes Hannah Stone on a journey deep into the heart of the Dordogne landscape. As she begins to unravel a forgotten history of wartime bravery and sacrifice, she discovers the heartrending secret that binds her grandmother to a village schoolteacher, the remarkable Lucie Laval.... A story of friendship, courage and hope, The Schoolteacher of Saint Michel is an unforgettable listen.

In conversation with Church Historian Dr. Hannah Hunt, we explore the Substantive view of the imago Dei with an eye to Hellenistic influences on early Christian thought. These cultural and theological views led many virtuous women to reject their feminine bodies, forsake marriage and perform spirituality through masculinization. Dr. Hannah Hunt is a Church History scholar and former Senior Lecturer in Theology at Leeds Trinity University. She is the author of the books “Clothed in the Body: Asceticism, the Body and the Spiritual in the Late Antique Era” and "Joy-Bearing Grief: Tears of Contrition in the Writings of the Early Syrian and Byzantine Fathers" along with numerous scholarly articles. As a poet, she writes under the name Hannah Stone.
