Read OnlineJesus said to his disciples: “Do not give what is holy to dogs, or throw your pearls before swine, lest they trample them underfoot, and turn and tear you to pieces.” Matthew 7:6Today's Gospel contains one of Christ's more difficult teachings. At first glance, His words seem harsh. Yet they reveal a profound truth: the mysteries of the Kingdom of Heaven require a heart properly disposed to receive them. Divine truths are not to be offered indiscriminately, especially to those who would treat them with scorn or hostility. Faith is essential to receive and understand the deeper mysteries of God. Jesus expressed a similar principle at the Last Supper when He told the Twelve: “I have much more to tell you, but you cannot bear it now. But when he comes, the Spirit of truth, he will guide you to all truth” (John 16:12–13).Though Jesus, as the eternal Word of God, possessed perfect and complete knowledge of divine truth, He did not reveal everything to His disciples all at once. Had He done so, they might have been overwhelmed. Even His closest followers often struggled to grasp His teachings, misunderstanding His words and resisting difficult truths. Yet Christ unveils the mysteries of His Kingdom gradually, according to each person's ability to receive them. The divine mysteries are so deep, vast, and profound that we will only fully comprehend them when we behold God face to face in the Beatific Vision. Until then, His deeper truths remain veiled. This does not mean we should cease seeking them; rather, as we grow in faith and knowledge of God, He lifts the veil little by little, drawing us closer to Himself. As we progress in holiness, He perfects within us the spiritual Gift of Wisdom, which ultimately deepens our love for Him.The pearls Jesus refers to symbolize these divine mysteries—treasures of divine Wisdom that must be sought, cherished, and received with reverence. This principle of gradual revelation is also seen in the ministry of Saint Paul. After his dramatic conversion, Paul received extraordinary spiritual insights, yet he recognized that his listeners were not always ready for the fullness of divine teaching. To the Corinthians, he wrote: “Brothers, I could not talk to you as spiritual people, but as fleshly people, as infants in Christ. I fed you milk, not solid food, because you were unable to take it” (1 Corinthians 3:1–2).Like Saint Paul, when God grants us glimpses of His divine Wisdom, we must treasure these revelations, ponder them in faith, and allow Him to deepen His communication with us. At the same time, as we share our faith with others, we must be mindful of their openness and capacity to receive what is holy—the pearls of divine truth. Though the saving message of the Gospel must be preached to all, the deepest mysteries are attained only through prayer and an interior receptivity to grace. When Jesus warns, “Do not give what is holy to dogs, or throw your pearls before swine…”, He is not discouraging evangelization. Rather, He is teaching us that not everyone is immediately receptive to the hidden mysteries of the Gospel. Some might reject it outright, treat it with indifference, or even respond with hostility. Thus, just as Saint Paul recognized the need to nourish spiritual infants with milk, not solid food, we too must exercise prudence in sharing the deepest divine truths, ensuring that they are offered in a way that hearts are prepared to receive. Reflect today on your own openness to God's eternal truth. Are you like an infant in need of spiritual milk? If so, drink that milk eagerly, allowing it to nourish your soul. As you mature in faith, devote more time to prayerful contemplation of God's Word, seeking His wisdom with a receptive heart. If God entrusts you with the role of feeding others, do so with love and gentleness, discerning the pearls God wants you to share. Only by first being receptive ourselves will we be prepared to be the instruments and evangelists that God calls us to be. Lord of Eternal Wisdom, the mysteries of faith are vast and beyond my comprehension without Your grace. Draw me ever closer to You, unveiling Your hidden presence and the precious pearls of Your Truth. Deepen my understanding, that I may ponder Your mysteries with a receptive heart. As I grow in faith, use me as You will to nourish others according to their need, leading them ever deeper into Your divine Wisdom. Jesus, I trust in You. Read Online“Why do you notice the splinter in your brother's eye, but do not perceive the wooden beam in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove that splinter from your eye,' while the wooden beam is in your eye? You hypocrite, remove the wooden beam from your eye first; then you will see clearly to remove the splinter from your brother's eye.” Matthew 7:3–5It is easy to judge another. A certain satisfaction comes from it; otherwise, one would not engage in such an action. In fact, every sin we commit brings with it a certain degree of satisfaction. Of course, the satisfaction is purely emotional, passing, disordered, and ultimately very destructive to our souls. A judgmental heart presumes the worst about another's words or actions. The Catechism of the Catholic Church warns against rash judgment as an offense against truth (CCC 2477). We commit this sin when we assume, without sufficient evidence, the moral fault of another. This often manifests as gossip, detraction, or slander. While gossip may sometimes involve truth, it becomes sinful when it harms another's reputation without a just cause. Detraction needlessly exposes another's real faults, while slander distorts the truth and spreads falsehood. Each of these acts flows from a heart that finds disordered satisfaction in condemning rather than in mercy.Every time we judge another unfairly—whether through interior criticism or public condemnation—we fall into this sin. To remedy this, we must examine our motivations. Sin is deceptive, especially to the one who commits it. The sin of judging another is particularly insidious because it often feels justified, even appearing as a moral obligation. This was the sin of the scribes and Pharisees. They judged others, interpreting the Law of Moses through their rigid traditions rather than true righteousness. Their self-righteousness convinced them they were acting in God's name. But they were blinded by pride, which not only harmed others but also endangered their souls. A judgmental heart is difficult to overcome. Doing so requires shedding disordered feelings and hurts and turning to the light of God's Wisdom. This will hurt because we must admit our sin. When another's words or actions offend us, it is even harder to face our own sin first. Jesus makes it clear, however, that unless we first remove the “wooden beam” in our own eye, we cannot remove the “splinter” in another's. The only way to remove the wooden beam in our own eye is to grow in the virtue of mercy. We must love every sinner—especially those who have harmed us—to such a degree that every passion of our soul is transformed by mercy. With our minds, we must perceive and embrace God's truth about mercy, and with our wills, we must choose it. Only when we do so over and over again—forming a habit, or virtue—will our passions align with mercy. The good news—for us and for those we tend to judge—is that when the virtue of mercy permeates not only our minds and wills but also our feelings and passions, we begin to discover freedom from the disordered satisfaction that trapped us in our judgmental hearts. From there, enlightened by God's wisdom and grace, we will be able to lovingly, compassionately, and sincerely help others see the error of their ways—not by judging and condemning them, but by loving them and guiding them toward the same freedom in Christ. Reflect today on any sinful habits you struggle with, especially a judgmental heart. Do you ever feel justified in your judgment of others? Is there a degree of disordered satisfaction you gain from that sin? Humble yourself before God's mercy if these questions challenge you, and don't be afraid to acknowledge the wooden beam in your eye. Beg for freedom from a judgmental spirit and embrace the far greater gift of mercy. Though challenging, such an exercise is ultimately freeing and will enable you to assist those who need God's mercy the most. Most merciful God, I come before You and humbly acknowledge my struggle with a judgmental heart. When I am hurt or offended, I am tempted to lash out, condemn, and presume the worst of others. But You, O Lord, see all things with perfect wisdom and mercy. Please free me from this sin, purify my heart, and transform me into an instrument of Your love and compassion. May I judge no one apart from Your Truth and Justice, and may I always extend the mercy that I myself long to receive. God's Truth becomes Your Truth. You become fully persuaded that God's Word, applied to your life, is conviction enough for you to obey and live it out by faith. Not to obtain salvation, but because you are saved. Because God is your Father. Because you are His eternal child, born into His family, with a home in Heaven prepared and waiting for you.
Read OnlineAs Jesus was teaching in the temple area he said, “How do the scribes claim that the Christ is the son of David? David himself, inspired by the Holy Spirit, said: The Lord said to my lord, ‘Sit at my right hand until I place your enemies under your feet.' David himself calls him ‘lord'; so how is he his son?” The great crowd heard this with delight. Mark 12:35–37Today's Gospel presents us with one of Jesus' many teachings in the Temple area just days before His Passion. Just prior to this Gospel, Jesus praised one of the scribes for his understanding of Scripture, saying to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God” (Mark 12:34). He then turned His attention to a large crowd and revealed the limited understanding that many of the scribes and teachers of the Law had about the Messiah.Though the scribes rightly understood from Scripture that the Messiah would be born of King David's lineage, their understanding of the Messiah was incomplete. Many believed that, as David's descendant, the Messiah would be a great king who would lead the Jewish nation militarily and free them from Roman oppression. What they failed to understand was that the Messiah was not only a “Son of David” but also divine.Jesus quotes Psalm 110:1, one of the most frequently cited Old Testament passages in the New Testament: “The LORD says to my lord: ‘Sit at my right hand while I make your enemies your footstool.'” King David, who was inspired by the Holy Spirit, refers to the Messiah as his lord or master, expressing that the Messiah would not only be his descendant but also greater than David. Furthermore, David reveals that the LORD—the Father in Heaven—would exalt the Messiah to a position of divine authority. To “sit at my right hand” was a favor granted only to one who was divine; not even David could sit at God's right hand. To “make your enemies your footstool” was a reference to the ancient practice by which a victorious king would have his enemies lay prostrate before him, placing his foot upon them as a symbol of absolute dominion. However, Jesus' kingship is not merely earthly but spiritual and eternal. The true enemies placed under His feet are sin, death, and the demons (1 Corinthians 15:25–26, Colossians 2:15).Though we understand Jesus' identity as the Son of David, the Messiah, and God Himself, it is important to humbly recognize that, like the scribes, we, too, struggle to fully grasp the mysteries of faith. In Heaven, when we see God face to face in the Beatific Vision, we will receive a full and immediate understanding of Him in His essence, far greater than anything we can comprehend today. Though this full revelation will be given to us at that time, we must continuously strive for greater clarity now.The first and most important foundational step toward that end is to prayerfully reflect on the Scriptures. This is more than merely acquiring intellectual knowledge of Scripture, as the scribes did. Study is a human effort, and while valuable, the only way to arrive at true understanding of Scripture—and of God, Whom Scripture reveals—is through the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Here and now, we must be open to illumination that comes only from God.Many of the scribes criticized Jesus because they relied solely on their own interpretation of Scripture. Most of them failed to be open to the guidance of the Holy Spirit in their study. Perhaps the one scribe who spoke to Jesus with understanding and was “not far from the kingdom of God” stirred Jesus' Sacred Heart with a longing that all scribes—and all of us—would approach His Word with the same openness.Reflect today on the scribes and see yourself in them. Pray for the gift of divine illumination as you spend time in God's Word, seeking to follow the example of the one scribe who understood. Invite the Holy Spirit to guide your understanding so that, like those listening to Jesus in the Temple, you, too, may understand His Word “with delight.”My revealing Lord, I pray that one day I may be blessed with the Beatific Vision, beholding You face to face and comprehending all mysteries in the fullness of Your divine gift. Until that day, open my mind to understand and my heart to respond to You. Reveal Yourself and Your Truth to me, that I may delight in You now and forevermore. Scripture is unmistakably clear: Jesus will return in glory to judge the nations, separating those who received Him from those who rejected Him (Matthew 25:31–32). Yet false teachers deny or dilute this reality, replacing repentance and holiness with a softened message that cannot save. In today's episode of the MY Devotional Podcast, Dr. Michael Youssef unpacks Jude's urgent imagery for apostate teachers—portraits designed to help believers recognize danger before spiritual shipwreck occurs: “Hidden reefs” at your love feasts (Jude 1:12): beneath-the-surface threats that damage the church while “feeding only themselves.” “Clouds without rain” (v. 12): loud, trend-driven voices that promise refreshment but deliver only disappointment. “Autumn trees… without fruit and uprooted” (v. 12): spiritually barren leaders who leave others malnourished and are ultimately “twice dead.” “Wild waves” and “wandering stars” (vv. 13): chaotic influences that produce wreckage and provide no true direction—drifting farther from biblical Truth. Jude then lifts our eyes to the certainty apostates try to erase: the Lord is coming with holy ones to judge everyone (Jude 1:14–15). For the unrepentant, that day will bring terror. But for believers who long for His appearing, it will be a day of joy—when we see the signs of His return and “lift up [our] heads” with expectation (Luke 21:28). Prayer: Lord, may I pursue Your Truth revealed in Your Word with confidence and joyfully prepare for the day of Your return. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen. “They are wild waves of the sea, foaming up their shame; wandering stars, for whom blackest darkness has been reserved forever” (Jude 1:13). Learn more in Dr. Michael A. God has entrusted believers with something priceless: the faith once for all delivered to the saints (Jude 1:3). In today's episode of the MY Devotional Podcast, Dr. Michael Youssef challenges Christians to embrace their responsibility as custodians of Gospel Truth—passing it to the next generation unmodified, unwatered-down, and unchanged. But here's the danger: many believers rarely open their Bibles, and “we cannot contend for something we don't know.” When Scripture is neglected, deception becomes inevitable, and false teachers flourish—often appearing kind and spiritually polished while quietly draining the Gospel of its saving power. As Paul warned, they may have “a form of godliness but denying its power” (2 Timothy 3:5). Dr. Youssef reminds us that contending isn't about quarrelsome pride—it's about love for God and love for the lost. The true Gospel transforms people from the inside out, and that's exactly why it is worth defending. This devotional will strengthen you to know, love, and live the faith—so you can recognize error, speak truth with grace, and hold fast to the whole counsel of God. Prayer: Lord, thank You for the transforming, saving power of Your Gospel. May I be bold to stand against false teaching out of love for You, Your Truth, and the lost in need of redemption. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen. “For certain individuals whose condemnation was written about long ago have secretly slipped in among you” (Jude 1:4). Learn more in Dr. Michael A. Everyone is created in God's image, but only those who have been called to follow Jesus have become children of God—and that identity changes everything. In today's episode of the MY Devotional Podcast, Dr. Michael Youssef anchors your heart in the Father's lavish love (1 John 3:1) and the unshakable security that flows from belonging to Christ. Because you are His: you can fight temptation through the power of the Holy Spirit, you can have peace in turmoil, you can contend for the faith with courage, and you can rest knowing no one can snatch you from God's hand (John 10:28–29) and nothing can separate you from His love (Romans 8:38–39). That security also confronts complacency. Dr. Youssef reminds us that true believers cannot habitually live in careless disobedience. We may still struggle with sin, but conviction drives us back to confession and repentance—and gratitude compels us to submit to the whole counsel of God's Word. Finally, this devotional clarifies a vital tension in today's culture: God's love does not muddy Truth. Love does not excuse false teaching or “baptize” sin into the Church. Love speaks the Truth—even when it's unpopular—because the Gospel is the power of God for salvation (Romans 1:16). If you've felt intimidated by accusations of narrow-mindedness, this episode will strengthen you to stand firm, love freely, and contend faithfully. Prayer: Lord, embolden me to proclaim Your Truth in love, that more might come to know eternal life in Christ. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen. “To those who have been called, who are loved in God the Father and kept for Jesus Christ: Mercy, peace and love be yours in abundance” (Jude 1:1-2). Learn more in Dr. Michael A. Is "Your Truth", Reality?
Read OnlineThat very day, the first day of the week, two of Jesus' disciples were going to a village seven miles from Jerusalem called Emmaus, and they were conversing about all the things that had occurred. And it happened that while they were conversing and debating, Jesus himself drew near and walked with them, but their eyes were prevented from recognizing him. Luke 24:13–16These two disciples were overwhelmed by grief and bewildered by the events that had taken place. As they walked the seven-mile journey from Jerusalem to Emmaus, they expressed their sadness and confusion. Jesus, Whom they had hoped “would be the one to redeem Israel,” was brutally tortured and crucified before their eyes. After His death, He was buried, and that very morning they heard reports from some of the women, as well as Peter and John, that His body was missing from the tomb. What's more, the burial cloth was neatly rolled up in the tomb, and the women informed the disciples that they saw “a vision of angels who announced that he was alive.” The two did not know what to think. As the story unfolds, Jesus appeared to them as they walked and conversed with them, “but their eyes were prevented from recognizing him.” Jesus' hidden presence teaches us that He is often with us, in our midst, yet we do not recognize Him. Distractions, trials, or our own misconceptions can dull our spiritual senses. We often fail to perceive His presence in the Eucharist, the Scriptures, the Church, during our prayer, and in one another.Jesus' loving rebuke of these two disciples was intended to wake them up: “Oh, how foolish you are! How slow of heart to believe all that the prophets spoke! Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory?” Every time we stumble from spiritual blindness, which leads to confusion, our Lord lovingly says the same to us. We must take that rebuke with humility, acknowledging our blindness and inability to perceive His constant presence.Jesus then “interpreted to them what referred to him in all the Scriptures.” This opening of their minds to the spiritual Gift of Understanding is key. By humbly acknowledging our spiritual blindness and the foolish way we often go about our daily lives, we dispose ourselves to this precious gift. The Gift of Understanding cannot be acquired by our own effort. Only after we honestly humble ourselves before God will He open our minds to all we need to know and understand.Once they arrived in Emmaus and invited this divine Stranger to stay with them for the night, Jesus agreed. As they dined, “while he was with them at table, he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them.” The Lord Himself, the great High Priest, gave them the Eucharist, and suddenly “their eyes were opened and they recognized him, but he vanished from their sight.”Though our Lord vanished from their sight, He remained with them, as He does with us today. His presence in the Eucharist is His True Presence, His Divine Essence. By revealing Himself in the Scriptures and the Breaking of the Bread, He teaches us that He is always with us in His Word and in the Sacraments. We consume His Word through daily meditation, study, and the teachings of the Church. His True Presence is with us when we attend Mass and participate in the Sacraments.Reflect today on the initial confusion of these two disciples, filled with sorrow and bewilderment as they grappled with recent events. Contrast this with the growth in faith they likely experienced in the months and years ahead. Little by little, they grew in understanding and belief, allowing their misconceptions about who the Messiah would be—not a political leader, but the Savior of the World—to be dispelled. Whenever you face confusion, turn to the example of these disciples and learn from the lessons taught through them. Seek Christ in His Word and Sacraments, trusting that He will dispel doubts and guide you to greater faith.Ever-present Lord, please humble me so that I turn more fully to You, hearing Your voice and recognizing Your presence. When I am confused or uncertain, please intervene and open my mind to You and to Your Truth so that I will believe with all my heart and follow wherever You lead. Read Online“These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the law of Moses and in the prophets and psalms must be fulfilled.” Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures. Luke 24:44–45Have you allowed God to open your mind? When you read through the Scriptures, are you able to comprehend the hidden yet glorious mysteries contained within them? The Scriptures are not only a historical book we interpret through the use of our intelligence alone. There is a layer of meaning within them that no human mind can penetrate without the assistance of grace.Today's resurrection appearance in Luke's Gospel took place later in the day on Easter Sunday. That morning, our resurrected Lord appeared in physical form to some of the holy women and then to Simon Peter. In the afternoon, Jesus appeared to two of the disciples as they journeyed to the town of Emmaus, several miles from Jerusalem. Those disciples did not recognize Jesus until He opened their minds and revealed Himself in the “breaking of the bread,” foreshadowing the Eucharist. After that appearance, those two disciples returned to Jerusalem to tell the eleven and the other disciples about their encounter. It was during that conversation, behind closed doors, that Jesus appeared to all of them Easter evening, except for Thomas who was absent.Jesus first said to them, “Peace be with you.” This was no ordinary greeting. In Hebrew, Jesus said, “Shalom.” The shalom Jesus spoke of was an imparting of His grace that brought about the tranquility that those who are united to God experience. The peace Jesus spoke of and imparted flowed from the power of His victory over sin and death, by His Passion and Resurrection. That same shalom is given to us when we worthily and fruitfully participate in the sacraments. Through these gifts, especially the Eucharist and Reconciliation, we receive the transforming power of the Paschal Mystery: His life, death, and Resurrection, bestowed through the Holy Spirit.Once the grace of peace was bestowed, Jesus instructed them to receive it without fear. As this peace rested upon them, Jesus was able to give them another gift: “Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures.”Throughout Jesus' public ministry, He spoke about the necessity of His Passion, Death, and Resurrection. He pointed to the prophecies and promises about Him that were contained within the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms. Until that moment, Jesus' teaching had not fully penetrated their minds. They heard His perfect sermons, but the full meaning of what He said eluded them. During this resurrection appearance, however, they understood, as Jesus granted them the supernatural gift of Understanding—a gift of the Holy Spirit, who illuminates divine truths and helps us to perceive God's mysteries in a way we could never achieve on our own.Our Lord wants to open your mind, just as He did for His disciples that Easter day. Too often, we go through life in a state of confusion. We easily misinterpret our joys and struggles, leaving us on our own to make sense of our lives. Jesus wants to remedy that. He wants us to understand everything as He sees it. He invites us to receive His peace, His shalom, that brings order and tranquility to our lives and unites us in communion with God and others. From there, the Holy Spirit opens our minds to see everything through the lens of divine truth. Reflect today on how God might be calling you to live in this peace and understanding, particularly by fostering a deeper relationship with Him in the sacraments, in prayer, and in daily reflection on the Scriptures. By receiving the grace of shalom and an understanding of divine truths, we are strengthened for our mission to witness to the Resurrection and to share Christ's love with a world in need of His peace. Lord of all Understanding, there are many things in life that leave me confused. I often judge my hopes, joys, sorrows, and challenges by a worldly perspective that is devoid of Your Truth. Please grant me Your perfect peace so that I can rest in You. As Your peace, Your shalom, brings tranquility to my life, open my mind to know You and to understand everything from Your perspective, so that through me, You can bring Your peace and truth to the world. The enemy targets both the spiritually strong and the spiritually weak—with one goal: spiritual stagnation. In today's episode of the MY Devotional Podcast, Dr. Michael Youssef points to Jesus' warning in Matthew 13: the sower and the seed are unstoppable, so Satan focuses on corrupting the soil—your heart—so the Word won't produce lasting fruit. Dr. Youssef explains that the devil has no power over God or His Word, but he can distract, harden, and shallow out our hearts—making us resistant to truth, quick to drift, and slow to mature. Jesus highlights multiple kinds of soil where the seed suffers, and today Dr. Youssef focuses on the first two: The hardened path (wayside soil) — When someone hears the message but doesn't understand it, the enemy snatches it away. Unconfessed sin and bitterness can harden the heart, dull spiritual sensitivity, and cloud understanding (Matthew 13:19). The rocky, shallow soil — Some receive the Word with joy, but without depth they wither under pressure. New believers can fall back into old habits when mocked, and longtime believers can remain “spiritual infants” if they never mature beyond surface-level faith (Matthew 13:20–21). If you've felt stuck, spiritually numb, or easily shaken, this devotional will help you identify what kind of “soil” you've been living with—and call you to ask the Holy Spirit to make your heart fertile ground for the Truth that brings joy and freedom. Prayer: Father, show me if I am one of these types of soil where the seeds of Your Word are not able to take root. And by Your Spirit, make my heart fertile ground for Your Truth that brings joy and freedom. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen. Today's MY Devotional has been provided by Leading The Way. Presence Is SovereigntyReturn to the Signal of Your Truth in a World of NoiseA spoken transmission from the series At The Threshold by Astuti Martosudirdjo. This transmission is for you who feel scattered by noise, disconnected from your own signal, or pressured to “be present” in ways that feel performative instead of real. It's for you who have lost presence not because you don't care, but because you have been surviving, striving, or silencing your truth for too long. This is not a space to perfect stillness. It's a space to dissolve distortion, to meet yourself with truth, and to re-tune your field to what has always been yours: clarity, safety, and knowing that arise not from effort but from being here.Inside this transmission, you will remember:• Presence is not a practice. It's a return.• Presence is not for healing only. It's for leading, loving, and living.• Presence is not fragile. It is your embodied sovereignty. It also clears the part of you that learned to fear stillness; the one who performs to feel safe, or outruns silence to feel alive. That part is gently named, witnessed, and dissolved.Let this field re-tune you.Come back to it as often as you need especially when you're ready to stop performing and start remembering.Frequency: 428 Hz (for deep relaxation, anxiety relief and stress reduction) + 528 Hz (for clarity and vibrational repair)⚠️ Please do not listen while driving, operating machinery, or multitasking. This transmission is meant to be received in stillness.Full written transmission: Presence is SovereigntyThis is a free offering, with an open invitation to offer a gift if your heart feels called.
Read OnlineThe disciples had forgotten to bring bread, and they had only one loaf with them in the boat. Jesus enjoined them, “Watch out, guard against the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.” Mark 8:14–15Jesus and the disciples frequently traveled by boat, visiting many towns and villages along the Sea of Galilee. After a fruitful visit to the Gentile territory of the Decapolis, Jesus and His disciples crossed to Dalmanutha. Upon disembarking, some Pharisees, who had likely heard of His miraculous feeding of the 4,000, demanded a sign from Him. Jesus, deeply grieved by their lack of faith, sighed from the depths of His spirit, refused their request, and departed again by boat. It was during this boat ride that today's Gospel took place.Jesus' holy sorrow over the Pharisees' hardness of heart deeply affected Him. His grief was not one of self-pity over their rejection of Him but stemmed from His divine compassion. He felt the weight of their lack of faith and their refusal to embrace the truth of God's love. It was this profound sorrow that prompted Jesus to caution His disciples, saying, “Watch out, guard against the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.”“Leaven,” in this context, symbolizes a hidden yet pervasive influence that governed both the Pharisees and Herod. Just as a small amount of yeast permeates an entire batch of dough, causing it to rise, so too the destructive influence of the Pharisees and Herod spread through their actions and teachings, corrupting others. With His sorrowful encounter with the Pharisees fresh in mind, Jesus used the moment to warn His disciples not to allow such corrupting influences to take root in their own hearts. The Pharisees' hidden, pervasive, and destructive quality lay in their excessive focus on external observances of the Law and the traditions derived from it. Their rigid legalism blinded them to the true meaning of God's Law—mercy and the inner disposition of the heart—leading to their own spiritual ruin and to the misleading of others.Herod's “leaven” likely refers to a worldly mindset characterized by a relentless pursuit of power, wealth, and pleasure. Herod chose the fleeting allure of worldly things over God's eternal truths. Herod's pride and destructive behavior epitomize this mindset, which ultimately led him to have John the Baptist executed for courageously speaking the truth about Herod's adulterous relationship with his brother's wife, Herodias.Jesus' admonition to His disciples on the boat is not only a condemnation of the Pharisees' and Herod's sins but a warning about the influence such pervasive sins can have on them. Likewise, just as Jesus cautioned His disciples, so too does He caution us today: “Watch out” and “guard against” the influences that do not arise from God's saving Truth. In our world, it is essential to recognize how pervasive societal ideologies and moralities can subtly shape our thoughts and actions. By remaining vigilant and rooted in Christ, we must discern and reject the leaven of worldliness, hypocrisy, and pride, allowing God's divine light to guide our lives.Reflect today on the influences that shape your life. Do you spend countless hours on social media, browsing the Internet, or watching television? If so, take a moment to consider the hidden yet pervasive effects of the content you consume and discern if it is subtly leading you astray. The only true remedy against such worldly influences is found in prayer and the Word of God. The Gospel must permeate our minds and hearts, acting as leaven to transform us from within. This divine leaven is nourished through prayer, the Sacraments, and an ongoing commitment to the Gospel. Heed Jesus' warning, spoken to His disciples but intended for every generation: Remain vigilant. Guard your heart and mind, ensuring they are firmly rooted in God's saving grace. My grieving Lord, Your heart was filled with holy sorrow over the sins of the Pharisees and Herod, especially as You witnessed the harmful influence they had on others. Please grant me the gift of spiritual insight, so that I may recognize the influences that shape my thoughts and actions. May Your Word and Your Truth alone guide me, and may I become a witness to that Truth, serving as a holy influence for others. Time is the best filter for truth, and in this episode, I talk about why real truth never needs urgency or constant defense. When something is true, life eventually proves it without you forcing the outcome or arguing nonstop. Falsehood needs pressure, convincing, and hype just to survive for a moment. I explain why patience is power and how reality always exposes what's real over time. Facts can be selected and framed, but truth stands when everything is put into full context. Deception rarely shows up looking dangerous. More often, it comes quietly—through questions, subtle doubts, and half-truths that feel reasonable in the moment. This devotional takes us back to Genesis 3, where the serpent doesn’t begin with a direct command to sin. He begins with a question that plants uncertainty: Did God really say…? That’s the first crack—inviting Eve to doubt God’s Word and, ultimately, God’s authority. As the conversation unfolds, we see how easily temptation can pull us closer rather than push us away. Instead of fleeing, Eve engages. Instead of ending the conversation, she stays in it. And in that exchange, God’s command becomes blurred. The devotional notes that Eve’s response adds something God didn’t say—introducing confusion about what’s true. That confusion becomes an opening for the enemy to exploit truth with a twist: a half-truth presented as wisdom. The result is devastating—deception leads to disobedience, and disobedience brings consequences that ripple outward. But the devotional doesn’t leave us in despair. It reminds us that we are just as vulnerable to the same pattern: it’s okay to look… it won’t hurt to touch… and eventually, we’re further than we ever intended to go. That’s why the call is not self-confidence, but spiritual vigilance—being rooted in God’s Word so we can recognize lies quickly and respond with truth. Scripture becomes our anchor, and the Holy Spirit helps us discern what’s off before it becomes destructive. And even when we do fall, God’s mercy is still present. The devotional points to the hope woven into Genesis: God makes a way for His people, ultimately through the Savior He promised. Our enemy desires destruction, but Jesus offers life—full, abundant, and freeing. The invitation today is to cling to Christ, soak in Scripture, and ask God for discernment that stops deception at the start. Main Takeaways Deception often begins with subtle doubt: “Did God really say…?” Temptation pulls us closer step by step—engagement becomes compromise. Knowing God’s Word clearly helps us recognize half-truths and shut down lies. We are all vulnerable to deception, so vigilance and humility matter. Even when we fall, God’s forgiveness and salvation through Christ remain our hope. Today’s Bible Verse “Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?” - Genesis 3:1 NIV Your Daily Prayer Here is a brief excerpt from today’s prayer: “Help me to be soaked in Your Word, to recall Your Truth so that I can quickly spot the lie… and shut it down with the Truth of Your Word.” You can listen to the full prayer or read the devotional at the links below. Read Online“And some seed fell on rich soil and produced fruit. It came up and grew and yielded thirty, sixty, and a hundredfold.” He added, “Whoever has ears to hear ought to hear.” And when he was alone, those present along with the Twelve questioned him about the parables. Mark 4:8–10The Parable of the Sower is one of Jesus' foundational teachings. When preaching from a boat to a large crowd, Jesus used parables to reveal the mystery of the Kingdom of God. Afterward, His disciples questioned why He spoke in veiled language rather than directly. Jesus responded, “The mystery of the kingdom of God has been granted to you. But to those outside everything comes in parables, so that ‘they may look and see but not perceive, and hear and listen but not understand, in order that they may not be converted and be forgiven'” (Mark 4:11–12).At first, this response might seem perplexing. Why would Jesus teach in a way that some would not understand, potentially hardening their hearts further? To understand this, we turn to the Prophet Isaiah, whom Jesus quoted (cf. Isaiah 6:8–13). God commissioned Isaiah to preach to a people who were stubborn and unrepentant, saying they would “look and see but not perceive” and “hear and listen but not understand.” Despite Isaiah's zeal, God permitted their hardness of heart so they could face the consequences of their refusal to repent. This prophetic action sheds light on Jesus' use of parables.God “wills everyone to be saved and to come to knowledge of the truth” (1 Timothy 2:4). However, for those who refuse His Word, God sometimes permits their obstinacy as an act of mercy. Parables serve a dual purpose. For those open, they invite reflection and reveal deeper truths that lead to greater faith. For those closed, parables expose their resistance, deepening their awareness of spiritual emptiness. This process, though painful, is a merciful act, meant to confront individuals with the consequences of their sin and lead them to repentance. The Parable of the Sower, in particular, invites us to examine the “soil” of our own hearts. God, in His generosity, spreads the seed of His Word widely, offering grace and Truth to everyone. What kind of soil are you? Are you like the path, where the Word is quickly devoured by distractions, pride, or indifference, leaving no room for growth? Are you like the rocky ground, receiving the Word with enthusiasm but lacking the roots to endure trials and tribulations? Or are you like the thorny ground, where worldly anxieties, the lure of riches, and divided priorities choke the Word before it can bear fruit?Ideally, we are none of the above. Jesus calls us to cultivate rich soil—a heart receptive to His Word, where His grace takes root and bears abundant fruit. Only when we are receptive to grace and nurture the truths we have received through fidelity can we see God's Word flourish in our lives. This parable also teaches us how to respond to those who appear closed and obstinate. It is tempting to grow discouraged or angry and give up. But that is not what Jesus did, nor is it what Isaiah did. Isaiah fulfilled his mission to preach, even to those who rejected him. Similarly, Jesus continued to preach, using parables to reach all people, knowing that rejection would come. Reflect today on the soil of your heart and the hearts of those whom you are called to evangelize. Through prayer, nourish the Word of God within you so it can bear fruit. Persevere in sharing God's Word with others. When Isaiah asked how long he should continue preaching, God responded, “Until the cities are desolate, without inhabitants, Houses, without people, and the land is a desolate waste.” In other words, do not stop, even in the face of rejection. Even when all hope seems gone. Sow the seed of God's Word faithfully, trusting that even the hardened soil of obstinate hearts can one day bear good fruit. My relentless Lord, You sow Your Word with superabundant generosity, showering Your Truth upon all in the hope of their repentance. Grant that I may be among those who listen attentively, cherish Your Word, and nourish it within my heart. As my faith takes root and grows, use me as an instrument of Your grace to reach out to others, tirelessly sowing Your Truth in those You have entrusted to me. Strengthen me to persevere in this mission until the end of my days on earth. Jesus, I trust in You. Read OnlineWhen Joseph awoke, he did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took his wife into his home. Matthew 1:24The human person is a fascinating subject of study. Throughout the ages, countless philosophers, theologians, and social scientists have sought to understand the complexities of human nature. Within the Catholic philosophical tradition, Saint Thomas Aquinas stands out as an influential and trustworthy teacher on this topic.Aquinas teaches that while a person sleeps, the external senses are inactive. However, sense images within the imagination can still be active to varying degrees, depending on the depth of sleep, leading to the formation of dreams. Human reason is not entirely inactive during sleep, but it operates in a diminished capacity, which often results in dreams being nonsensical. Because the intellect's judgment is not fully engaged, the content of dreams is generally neither moral nor immoral. There is, however, another form of dream that transcends the normal and natural type. This is exemplified in Joseph's dream. In such divinely inspired dreams, like Joseph's, human reason is fully active—not because of the natural workings of the imagination—but because the dream is a direct result of divine intervention. In Joseph's case, his reason and intellect were fully engaged, allowing him to comprehend the divine message delivered by the angel. He was presented with a choice, and with his reason fully operative, he freely chose to say “Yes” to God's communication, thus embracing his role in the divine plan. This “Yes” to the divine plan is clearly illustrated in the passage quoted above. Upon awakening, Joseph “did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him.” His choice was made during his divinely inspired dream, and his will fully acted upon this decision when he awoke.Though divinely inspired dreams like Joseph's are uncommon, they do happen. We, however, do not need to wait for such a dream to imitate Joseph's obedience to God's will. Like Joseph, we have been given divine Truth. For us, that Truth comes primarily through Sacred Scripture and the teachings of the Church. The writings of the saints also help clarify all that God speaks to us.At times, our imaginations can lead us astray, much like in a dream. When we allow irrational thoughts to dictate our actions, we might find ourselves filled with anxiety, worry, and confusion. Imitating Joseph does not mean waiting for a divine dream; rather, it means actively engaging our minds with divine Truth as revealed through the Church and Sacred Scripture. We must then listen to that truth, dismiss irrational thoughts, and use our reason to command our will to act in obedience to God's will. Reflect, today, on whether you tend to dwell on irrational ideas or whether you turn your intellect to divine Truth as the basis for what you believe and how you act. Just as Joseph trusted in the Truth revealed to him by the angel and acted upon it, we too must place our trust in the Truth and act accordingly. My trustworthy Lord, You have revealed to us all Truth as is given to us through the Sacred Scripture and the teachings of the Church. When my imagination leads me astray into obsessive thinking and worrying, please speak to me and help me to hear Your voice. May every decision I make and action I take be in accord with Your Truth. Today we dive into the meeting point of neuroscience and mysticism. Life coach and spiritual psychologist Gabriella Taylor joins us to share how the brain’s ability to rewire itself can help us move beyond internalized patriarchy and the quiet dynamics—like gossip, comparison, and competition—that so often divide women and erode our sense of self. She explores what becomes possible when we begin to heal these patterns and invites us to consider how we can show up differently—for ourselves, each other, and the next generation of women. Inspired by this conversation, Gabriella created a free quiz just for The Bright Side community: Are You Leading from Your Truth or Your Trauma? This neuroscience-informed tool helps uncover which internalized patterns may be shaping how you lead, love, and see yourself—offering insight as a first step toward lasting change.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
From Wounded to Wise: The Map That Transforms Betrayal Pain into Lasting Peace. ““It's not about the information. It's about the transformation.”.” — Lora Cheadle So many women in betrayal recovery have been given pieces of the healing puzzle — therapy, books, workshops, somatic work — and yet months or years later, they're still not whole. Why? Because without the map that shows how the pieces fit together, the healing never fully integrates. In this episode, Lora reveals the FLAUNT!® Framework — a clinically backed, soul-deep integration system that moves you from wound to wisdom. Through her own story and years of client experience, she shows why piece-by-piece healing leaves you stuck, how integration changes everything, and why you need the image on the puzzle box before you can truly recover. If you're ready for clarity, confidence, and unshakable peace, this episode is your turning point. Top 3 Takeaways: Pieces Without the Map Keep You Stuck – Healing tools help, but without a unifying framework to integrate them, you'll keep looping in triggers, overthinking, and self-doubt. Integration = Transformation – It's not the information you've gathered that changes you — it's weaving it together so it becomes embodied wisdom. FLAUNT!® Is the Map – This five-step framework (Find Your Fetish, Laugh Out Loud, Accept Unconditionally, Navigate the Negative, Trust in Your Truth) guides you from devastation to sovereignty, joy, and peace. Favorite Quote: “Pieces scattered on the floor hold no power. Only when they're placed in the pattern of their truth do they become peace.” Subscribe, rate, and review FLAUNT! to help others uncover the power of radical self-worth and post-betrayal joy. On this episode, the fifth installment of our eight-part, issue-specific series, we'll explore how nonprofits can boldly and safely advocate for gender and reproductive justice. We'll review recent policy developments and discuss how nonprofits can respond through legislative, executive, and judicial branch advocacy. Join us as we break down the rules and share recent examples of how nonprofits are advancing gender and reproductive justice. Attorneys for this episode Quyen Tu Brittany Hacker Melissa Marichal Zayas Shownotes Gender and Reproductive Justice Headlines Executive Branch Actions Since taking office, President Trump has signed several sweeping executive orders that undermine the rights of transgender people and women and reduce access to reproductive health care. These include, for example, orders that terminate federal diversity, equity, and inclusion programs; rescind executive orders that expanded access to reproductive health care; ban transgender people from serving in the military; limit coverage for gender-affirming care; and require federal agencies to recognize only two, “not changeable” sexes. The DOJ has announced that, outside of extraordinary circumstances, it will stop enforcing the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act, a law that protects reproductive clinic staff from violence and harassment. HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has directed the FDA to review its approval of the medication abortion pill Mifepristone. We've also seen major funding cuts across several agencies. HHS, for example, has terminated NIH grants focused on LGBTQ+ health issues and frozen millions of dollars of Title X funds, which help provide reproductive health services in low-income communities. Litigation Many nonprofits, as well as state attorneys general, have filed lawsuits challenging the executive orders that seek to curtail LGBTQ+ rights and DEI initiatives. In February, for example, a group of several civil rights nonprofits, along with Crowell & Moring LLP, filed a lawsuit on behalf of Chicago Women in Trades to challenge the Trump administration's anti-DEI executive orders. As a result, a federal court has temporarily blocked the Labor Department from requiring Chicago Women in Trades and other federal contracts or grant recipients to certify that they don't operate any programs that violate Federal anti-discrimination laws, which one of these EOs would require. Many other provisions of these EOs, however, remain in effect as the cases make their way through the courts. The National Council of Nonprofits has a continuously updated chart tracking executive orders that impact nonprofits and their current legal status. Just Security has an even broader resource that is tracking all legal challenges to Trump administration actions. Legislation Congress is currently considering deep cuts to Medicaid. These proposed cuts would lead to an estimated 8 million Americans becoming uninsured, and would eliminate all federal funding to Planned Parenthood, including funding for preventative health screenings and testing. Proposed budget cuts would also further restrict transgender peoples' access to gender-affirming care. In Missouri, the state legislature recently approved a new ballot referendum that, if passed, would repeal last year's voter-approved constitutional amendment guaranteeing a right to abortion. This ballet referendum will appear on the ballot in November of 2026 or earlier if Missouri's governor calls a special election. What can 501(c)(3)s do to respond? As a reminder, 501(c)(3)s cannot support or oppose candidates for elective public office. This means they can't engage in activity that helps or hurts the chances of a candidate winning an election. But here's what they can do: They can engage in an unlimited amount of non-lobbying advocacy, and they can engage in a limited amount of lobbying. Non-Lobbying Advocacy Educate the public about issues of importance to your organization The Center for Reproductive Rights' tool, Repro Red Flags: Agency Watch, which tracks key Trump administration appointments and actions related to reproductive health. PFLAG is tracking and reporting on federal and state legislation and litigation impacting the LGBTQ+ community through its weekly Policy Matters Newsletter and Executive Orders Explainers and Resources web page. The National Women's Law Center has released a report highlighting how the cuts would impact women and LGBTQ+ individuals. Engage in administrative advocacy A March letter sent by Equal Rights Advocates and several other civil rights organizations to Acting EEOC Chair Andrea Lucas urges her to immediately withdraw a series of letters and guidance documents pressuring employers to abandon DEI programs. Hold a rally In April, the Coalition for Inclusive Schools & Communities, Live in Your Truth, and the Montgomery County Pride Family held a rally in support of inclusive education outside the U.S. Supreme Court during oral arguments in Mahmoud v. Taylor. Initiate or participate in litigation In May, a Michigan state court permanently struck down three of Michigan's abortion restrictions, agreeing with Northland Family Planning Centers and Medical Students for Choice—two nonprofits plaintiffs represented by the Center for Reproductive Rights—that the restrictions violate the state's constitutional amendment. Fund advocacy Public and private foundations can fund advocacy through general operating grants or specific project grants. Lobbying 501(c)(3) public charities can engage in lobbying, but they are limited in how much lobbying they may engage in. Under the federal tax rules, most public charities can choose between two tests to determine how much lobbying they can engage in: the insubstantial part test or the 501(h) expenditure test. Under either test, lobbying includes attempts to influence legislation at any level of government. The exact activities that will count as lobbying will depend on which test the organization uses. When engaging in lobbying, remember to track and report your lobbying on your annual Form 990, stay within your lobbying limits, and use unrestricted funds. In addition to the tax rules, federal, state, or local level lobbyist registration and reporting requirements may apply when engaging in legislative and executive branch advocacy. These requirements vary by state and city, so make sure to confirm the types of activities and thresholds that trigger reporting in the jurisdictions where you are lobbying. The IRS considers ballot measure advocacy a form of direct lobbying because the voters act as legislators when they vote to approve or reject a ballot measure, but keep in mind that your organization may also be required to register and report on ballot measure activity under state or local campaign finance laws. Since 2022, 501(c)(3) public charities have helped to pass ballot measures that establish a right to abortion in eleven states. Truth, Hell, & The Lie They Believe: A 12-Part Framework For Owning Your CategoryWhat if your most powerful business advantage isn't just what you know, but understanding the lie your audience believes?Episode SummaryIn this episode of The Digital Contrarian, host Ryan Levesque dives into a complete 12-part strategic framework for differentiating yourself in any market. You'll learn how to identify your audience's "hell" and the lie they believe, discover why contrarian truths create more impact than incremental improvements, and get a strategic blueprint you can apply to any major project or business repositioning.Question of the Day
2 Thessalonians 2:11-12: "And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness." The verse from 2 Thessalonians 2:11-12 addresses the concept of rejecting truth and embracing lies, which has profound relevance in modern life. In today's world, we're often inundated with information, some of which may be misleading or false. This passage serves as a cautionary reminder of the dangers of choosing convenience, comfort, or personal biases over truth and righteousness. In practical terms, it challenges us to critically evaluate the information we consume, stand firm in ethical values, and resist the temptation to accept falsehoods that align with our desires or justify harmful actions. It also underscores the importance of discernment and humility, encouraging us to seek the truth with open minds and hearts rather than being swayed by strong delusions or manipulative influences. The question "What is truth?" is famously posed by Pontius Pilate in **John 18:38** during his interrogation of Jesus. This moment highlights a profound philosophical and spiritual inquiry that resonates throughout the Bible and human history. In the Bible, truth is often associated with God's word and character. For example: - **John 14:6**: Jesus declares, "I am the way, the truth, and the life," emphasizing that truth is found in Him. - **Psalm 119:160**: "The entirety of Your word is truth," pointing to the reliability and divine nature of Scripture. - **John 8:32**: "Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free," illustrating the liberating power of truth in one's life. Truth in the biblical sense is not just factual accuracy but a deeper alignment with God's will, love, and purpose. It challenges us to live authentically and seek righteousness in our actions and beliefs. live your truth In modern usage, "Your Truth" often refers to an individual's personal experience, perspective, or understanding of the world. It emphasizes the subjective and personal nature of truth—what feels authentic to someone's life and beliefs, even if it doesn't align with others' views or objective facts. In contrast, biblical truth is portrayed as universal, unchanging, and grounded in God's nature and word. It is not subjective or personal but rather a reflection of divine will and absolute morality. The Bible teaches that truth is something external to oneself, revealed through Scripture and embodied in Jesus Christ, who declared Himself as "the way, the truth, and the life." While "Your Truth" celebrates individuality and personal authenticity, biblical truth calls for alignment with a higher, overarching standard that transcends personal feelings or perspectives. The difference lies in the source—one is internal and subjective, while the other is external and divine. - Yes, the concept of "Your Truth" often aligns with the idea of a personal worldview. A worldview encompasses the lens through which an individual interprets life, reality, and their place in the world—it's shaped by personal experiences, beliefs, values, and cultural influences. "Your Truth" emphasizes the subjective side of this worldview, focusing on personal authenticity and the individual journey. However, worldviews also encompass broader philosophies and frameworks that may be shared by communities or cultures. While "Your Truth" highlights individuality, a worldview might include both personal perspectives and shared ideologies, making it more comprehensive in scope.

Send us a textThe freedom that comes from realizing "You're not meant for everyone" can be utterly life-changing. Returning for Season 4 of Standing in Your Truth, newly-married host Yanni Thomas explores this powerful life motto that liberated her from the prison of people-pleasing.Yanni vulnerably shares how she would shrink her naturally bubbly, kind, and admittedly loud personality around certain people, attempting to contort herself into whatever shape would gain their approval. This pattern led to feelings of depression and disconnection from her authentic self until a simple truth set her free: just as not everyone enjoys every food (Yanni's limited appreciation for sushi serves as her example), not everyone will appreciate your unique gifts and personality—and that's perfectly okay.Drawing from Matthew 5:14-16, Yanni reminds listeners they are called to be "the light of the world" and "salt of the earth"—not hidden or bland to accommodate others' preferences. She challenges listeners to evaluate their social circles: "Are you surrounded by people you're having to shrink for?" Before relationships damage your mental, physical, or spiritual health, recognize when environments aren't supporting your authentic self and have the courage to step away. The episode closes with powerful encouragement for anyone feeling alone or unseen. "You are loved, you are needed, you are wanted, and you are made to do amazing things. Don't let anyone tell you different." God created only one version of you, with unique contributions only you can offer the world. Stop hiding, embrace your authenticity, and let your light shine—those who don't appreciate it simply aren't your people.Support the show
Season 6 Episode 12 titled “What is Your Truth?"
Read OnlineHerod feared John, knowing him to be a righteous and holy man, and kept him in custody. When he heard him speak he was very much perplexed, yet he liked to listen to him. Mark 6:20Ideally, when the Gospel is preached and received by another, the effect is that the receiver is filled with joy, consolation and a desire to change. The Gospel is transforming for those who truly listen and respond with generosity. But what about those who do not respond with generosity? What effect does the Gospel have upon them? Our Gospel today gives us that answer. The line above comes from the story of the beheading of Saint John the Baptist. The bad actors in this story are Herod, Herod's illegitimate wife Herodias, and Herodias' daughter (traditionally named Salome). John had been imprisoned by Herod because John told Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother's wife.” But what's most interesting about this story is that, even in prison, Herod would listen to John preach. But instead of leading Herod to conversion, he was left “perplexed” by what John preached.Being “perplexed” was not the only reaction to John's preaching. Herodias' reaction was one of hatred. She appeared to be stung to the heart by John's condemnation of her “marriage” to Herod, and it was she who then orchestrated John's beheading. This Gospel, then, teaches us of two other common reactions to the Truth of the holy Gospel when it is preached. One is hatred and another is confusion (being perplexed). Obviously, hatred is far worse than simply being perplexed. But neither is the right reaction to the words of Truth. What is your reaction to the full Gospel when it is preached? Are there aspects of the Gospel that leave you uneasy? Are there teachings of our Lord that confuse you or lead you to anger? First look within your own heart to determine if you struggle with having a similar reaction as did Herod and Herodias. And then consider how the world reacts to the Truth of the Gospel. We should not be surprised at all that we find many Herods and Herodiases alive today. Reflect, today, upon any ways that you see the Gospel being rejected on one level or another. If you sense this within your own heart, then repent with all your might. If you see it elsewhere, do not allow the hostility to shake you or concern you. Keep your mind and heart upon the Truth and remain steadfast no matter the reaction you encounter. My Lord of all Truth, Your Word and Your Word alone brings grace and salvation. Please give me the grace I need to always listen to Your Word and to respond generously with all my heart. May I repent when I am convicted by Your Word and may I wholeheartedly return to You. Give me courage when others reject Your Truth and wisdom to know how to share that Word with love. Jesus, I trust in You.Source of content: catholic-daily-reflections.comCopyright © 2025 My Catholic Life! Inc. All rights reserved. Send us a textGood morning! Thank you for taking a few minutes to listen. If you are interested in the Daily Bible Devotional, you can find it at the links below:Amazon - (paperback, hardcover, and Kindle)Spiritbuilding.com - (premium quality paperback)Youtube Video Introducing the ContentFeel free to reach out with any questions: emersonk78@me.comMatthew 15The scribes and Pharisees are back on the scene, renewing their accusations against Jesus and His disciples, this time about the washing of hands before eating. Jesus points out how these teachers violate the actual commandments of God for the sake of their traditions. Their interpretation of the law has taken precedence over the actual teachings of God's law! Jesus reveals this is happening because of their hearts. They should be less concerned about others' dirty hands, and more concerned with their unholy hearts. This is set in contrast to the great miracles that follow. A Canaanite woman begs for healing for her daughter, and Christ commends her faith. Jesus heals many by the sea, as they glorify God. He then feeds another group of over 4,000 people, demonstrating His compassion once again. This chapter features two very different categories of people. On the one hand, the Pharisees are supposed to be the most knowledgeable and righteous people in Israel. However, they prove to be harsh and hypocritical and ultimately miss out on the immense blessings of Christ. Set in contrast, a Gentile woman, who knows she is unworthy of Jesus, begs for His help in faith. All those who pursue Jesus are healed, fed, and blessed. We must be careful because knowledge is good, but only from pure, humble, and holy hearts. We must never let knowledge make us judges of others. May we always humbly bow before Christ, side by side, begging for His help and showing mercy to others. Kind and Loving Father, will you seed in us Your heart of compassion and consideration of others? We thank you for the Scripture, for knowledge, and for wisdom. But Lord, we pray those things do not foster within us hearts that are hard or filled with pride. Help us to never elevate ourselves and bind things on others we have no right to bind. Open our eyes to know Your Truth, and never a truth of our own will and design. And Father, keep us humble, always placing all our expectations and hope in the grace of Your beloved Son. Thought Questions: - How can you grow in knowledge without becoming like a Pharisee? Why is your heart such a powerful factor in that process? - Can you have convictions and “traditions” you interpret in Scripture without weaponizing them to judge others? What does this require? - Why is Jesus always saving and blessing people who know so little? How can you be like these people, even as you grow in knowledge?

Read Online“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,' will enter the Kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven.” Matthew 7:21It's frightening to think of those of whom Jesus is speaking. Imagine arriving before the throne of God upon your passing from this earthly life and you cry out to Him, “Lord, Lord!” And you expect Him to smile and welcome you, but instead you come face-to-face with the reality of your ongoing and obstinate disobedience to the will of God throughout your life. You suddenly realize that you acted as if you were a Christian, but it was only an act. And now, on the day of judgment, the truth is made manifest for you and for all to see. A truly frightening scenario. To whom will this happen? Of course, only our Lord knows. He is the one and only Just Judge. He and He alone knows a person's heart, and judgment is left only to Him. But the fact that Jesus told us that “Not everyone” who expects to enter Heaven will enter should grab our attention.Ideally, our lives are directed by a deep and pure love of God, and it is this love and this love alone that directs our lives. But when a pure love of God is not clearly present, then the next best thing may be a holy fear. The words spoken by Jesus should evoke this “holy fear” within each of us.By “holy,” we mean that there is a certain fear that can motivate us to change our lives in an authentic way. It's possible that we fool others, and maybe even fool ourselves, but we cannot fool God. God sees and knows all things, and He knows the answer to the one and only question that matters on the day of judgment: “Did I fulfill the will of the Father in Heaven?”A common practice, recommended over and over by Saint Ignatius of Loyola, is to consider all our current decisions and actions from the point of view of the day of judgment. What would I wish I had done in that moment? The answer to that question is of essential importance to the way we live our lives today.Reflect, today, upon that important question in your own life. “Am I fulfilling the will of the Father in Heaven?” What will I wish I had done, here and now, as I stand before the judgment seat of Christ? Whatever comes to mind, spend time with that and strive to deepen your resolve to whatever God reveals to you. Do not hesitate. Do not wait. Prepare now so that the day of Judgment will also be a day of exceeding joy and glory! My saving God, I pray for insight into my life. Help me to see my life and all of my actions in the light of Your will and Your Truth. My loving Father, I desire to live fully in accord with Your perfect will. Give me the grace I need to amend my life so that the day of judgment is a day of the greatest glory. Jesus, I trust in You.Source of content: catholic-daily-reflections.comCopyright © 2024 My Catholic Life! Inc. All rights reserved. Spiritual evolution is not one-size-fits-all. Our journey is equal parts insight and authenticity, so it is OK to dislike. Dislike is the recognition of something that seems foreign to your core values, and can help us be more discerning. When you project anger, you allow dislike to control you, putting the power in someone else's hands. You are the only person who needs to know Your Truth. “Consecrate them in the truth. Your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, so I sent them into the world. And I consecrate myself for them, so that they also may be consecrated in truth.” John 17:17–19What does it mean to “consecrate” something or someone? Consecration is, of course, a very familiar term within our faith. We speak of the bread and wine being consecrated and becoming the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus our Lord. The consecration of the mere earthly substances of bread and wine transform them into God Himself. Thus, “consecration” is a powerful word.Another familiar use of this word is in reference to those women who have been called by God to enter religious life so as to dedicate themselves to God as spouses of Christ. They become “Consecrated Religious” through their solemn lifelong vows. They are dedicated, taken out of the world and presented to Christ in a unique way.Among the laity, there are many who have consecrated themselves to our Blessed Mother, or to the Sacred Heart, or to our divine Lord through some other special form of devotion. In all of these cases, to “consecrate” is to dedicate, set aside and make holy. Another translation for the word “consecrate” above is “sanctify.” To “Sanctify them in the truth” is to make them holy by the truth. This is Jesus' prayer in the above-quoted passage. This line comes from Jesus' beautiful High Priestly Prayer in which He prays to the Father for His disciples and for all who will eventually become His disciples—and that includes you! Jesus' prayer is not only effective as a prayer, it is also effective as a lesson on holiness. How do we become holy? Simple. We allow the Word of the Father to consecrate us in truth. In other words, we allow God's holy Word to engage us, challenge us, change us, call us from sin, point us to Heaven and transform every aspect of our lives. God's Word is the Truth, and we will become holy if we are transformed by this Truth. In what ways do you need the Truth, spoken by the Father in Heaven, to engage you? What are the truths of our faith that you especially need to know, accept, profess and believe? One of the best ways to answer this question is to commit yourself to an in-depth, prayerful reading of the Word of God. By prayerfully reading the Scriptures, you will open yourself to all that God wants to reveal to you. And as the voice of God speaks to you through His Word, you will be invited to change. His Word will combat the confusion and lies of the world and the evil one and set you upon the path to holiness, to true sanctity and interior consecration. Reflect, today, upon the transforming power of the Word of God. Reflect upon how fully you have allowed His Word to speak to you, call you out of the world, set you apart for holiness and direct you toward Himself. Engaging the Word of God must become your daily spiritual food, and it must paint for you the picture of your glorious life to which you are called. My Jesus, Word of the Father, You are Truth Itself. You are the Living Word Who has come to set us free. Give me the grace I need to listen to Your holy voice so that Your Truth will engage me in the depths of my soul, transforming me into the person You have called me to be. I open myself to You, dear Lord, and to all You wish to say to me. Jesus, I trust in You.Source of content: catholic-daily-reflections.comCopyright © 2024 My Catholic Life! Inc. All rights reserved.
