Stephanie welcomes back author Margaret Feinberg to explore Margaret's journey to better understand and personally experience the Holy Spirit, and share insights about how God's Spirit works in our everyday lives. Margaret's new book, "The God you need to know” invites us into a deep dive in the Person and Work of God's Holy Spirit. Many people think the Holy Spirit first appeared in Acts 2 (Pentecost), yet the Spirit has been active throughout the whole Bible. In the Old Testament, the Spirit is present from the very beginning, hovering over the waters in Genesis. The Holy Spirit empowers people in many diverse ways, such as giving wisdom to artisans like Bezalel or clothing Gideon with courage. Realizing this deepens our appreciation of God's ongoing presence and reminds us that spiritual experiences aren't limited to the extraordinary—they are woven throughout the ordinary. Margaret says, the story of the Spirit didn't start at Pentecost, and it doesn't only happen in dramatic moments. Where might you miss the Spirit at work in your daily routines? Margaret describes her research into how people experience the Holy Spirit, and discovered that there is no “cookie-cutter” approach. Some feel a nudge or inner voice, others recall Scripture, some sense physical warmth, and others have dreams or receive guidance in mundane activities. The Holy Spirit's creativity matches our unique personalities and learning styles. Together, Margaret and Stephanie wonder, How might God communicate with you in a way that matches your temperament? Are you overlooking His voice because you expect it to look a certain way? Margaret expands the definition of miracles from the spectacular to “the kindness of God on display.” She shares examples like God guiding someone home when lost or prompting a generous act. Sometimes miracles are obvious, but often, like at the wedding in Cana, they remain hidden to many—yet are miraculous all the same. So, together, they ask, What small moments in your life might be God's quiet miracles—His kindness breaking into your routine? Drawing from the story of Bezalel, Margaret points out the Spirit's role in empowering creativity. Making art, plans, connections, and even daily tasks can be inspired by God. We're all invited to “make” with the Spirit's inspiration, whether it's a beautiful loaf of bread or a supportive friendship. She prompts us to wonder, What is God inviting you to create or offer today? Margaret encourages us to pray simple prayers for the Holy Spirit's presence and guidance daily—paying attention to coincidences, inspirations, or “nudges.” While engaging with the Spirit may seem mysterious or even intimidating, it leads to freedom, peace, and transformation. She challenges each one of us: For the next week, ask, “Holy Spirit, help me notice Your presence today.” Journal what you sense, feel, or notice—especially in small ways. The Holy Spirit is alive and active—sometimes dramatic, often gentle, always personal. By lifting our expectations and slowing down to notice, we can discover God's kindness in new places and learn to walk more closely with Him, trusting that He meets us right where we are. Embrace God today, the God you need to know! MEET MARGARET FEINBERG Margaret Feinberg, one of America's most beloved Bible teachers, speaks at churches and conferences. Her books, including Taste and See and Fight Back With Joy, along with their corresponding Bible studies, have sold more than one million copies and received critical acclaim and national media coverage from the Associated Press, USA Today, the Los Angeles Times, the Washington Post, and more. She was named by Christianity Today as one of fifty women most shaping culture and the church today. Margaret savors life with her husband, Leif, and their superpup, Zoom. Zoom makes an appearance in the interview on Gospel Spice, and you can catch him on our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/gospelspice Now that you've read the official bio, here's the kick off your shoes and drink iced tea on the back porch version: Margaret spends most mornings with her good friends Coffee and God. Without Coffee, mornings would be difficult. Without God, life would be impossible. You'll often find Margaret (puppy-in-tow) adventuring outdoors—she enjoys hiking, river rafting, and scanning the night sky for the Northern Lights and shooting stars. She boasts an exceptionally dry sense of humor that she attributes to her Jewish father. Little known secret: He was recently inducted into the Surfer's Hall of Fame, and her mom earned her captain's license for 60-ton ships. They're pretty amazing. You'd like them. Married to Leif for more than a decade, Margaret's known for losing things like her sunglasses on her head, keys in her hand, or her phone for the 12th time in the same day. Luckily, Zoom hasn't been left anywhere… yet. Always up for an adventure, Margaret is known to drive 50 miles to chase down a food truck. She prefers watching comedies and laughing until her tummy aches over doing sit ups. More about Margaret here: https://margaretfeinberg.com/ ABOUT “THE GOD YOU NEED TO KNOW” Discover answers to your biggest questions about the Holy Spirit--and invite the Spirit to move in your life in powerful, real, tangible ways. The topic of the Holy Spirit can be…well, spirited…and one that sparks passionate discussion, especially among the most devout religious circles. What does it mean to be filled with the Holy Spirit? Are spiritual gifts still relevant today? Was the move of the Holy Spirit reserved for a specific age in history – or is the Spirit active now? The book traces Margaret's personal search for the Holy Spirit's work in her own life, rooted in childhood experiences and theological study. She unpacks the Spirit's role in the lives of biblical figures like Gideon, David, Ezekiel, and Bezalel, showing how God's presence has never been limited to a single moment in history. “Over the last few years, I've embarked on a deep exploration of the Holy Spirit prior to Pentecost, Margaret writes. “When we simply skip forward to the displays of the Spirit at Pentecost, we miss the faithful ways the Spirit of the Living God has been present and active with people throughout history. That's why we must explore the Holy Spirit on the road to Pentecost. The Spirit is not just the God we want to know; this is the God we need to know.” Everyone has questions about the Holy Spirit. If faith in Jesus provides my connection to God, then what role does the Holy Spirit play? How is the Spirit part of my day-to-day relationship with Christ? And why doesn't the Spirit's work play out in my life the way it seems to in the Bible? Why do other believers seem to have a connection to the Spirit, and I don't? Even longtime Jesus followers can feel stymied and confused. In The God You Need to Know, Margaret Feinberg, the bestselling author of Fight Back with Joy and Scouting the Divine, takes you on a journey through the Old Testament on the road to Pentecost to find answers to your burning questions about the Spirit. You will discover: The Spirit still working powerfully in unexpected places How to respond to spiritual promptings that often go ignored A deeper understanding of the Spirit's role in biblical events, especially the Old Testament How to encounter the Holy Spirit in fresh and practical ways Spiritual renewal through companionship with God The Holy Spirit's appearance on the Day of Pentecost was not a grand debut; it was the culmination of the Spirit's work since the beginning of time. You can experience a vibrant life with the same powerful flame. It's time to discover the God you need to know. This week on Typology, I sat down with the brilliant and buoyant Margaret Feinberg—author, teacher, and Enneagram 7 with an 8 wing. We talked about her new book, The God You Need to Know, and what it means to experience the Holy Spirit's presence—not just in the highs of life, but in the valleys too. Margaret opened up about facing surgery just before her book launch, navigating the exhaustion that comes with being “on” all the time, and how her joy had to be redefined in the midst of cancer. We also explored how ADHD traits can show up in Enneagram Sevens, what it's like being married to a Type 5, and how learning to rest isn't easy when you live in a world that never slows down. Margaret also offered a fresh perspective on the Holy Spirit—not just in the New Testament, but throughout Scripture. It's a conversation about joy that makes room for sorrow, faith that's been through the fire, and a Spirit who meets us in the mess. As you listen, take a moment to consider: What does true rest look like for you? Has your understanding of the Holy Spirit grown or shifted over time? Can you recall a time when joy and suffering existed side by side in your story?

I'm sitting at the bistro table with author and speaker Margaret Feinberg and singer-songwriter Michael O'Brien, and we are spilling the beans! We talked about how to get into the habit of meeting with God and the difference between your gifting and your calling. And we also got really honest about how to forgive when you don't want to or feel like you can't. Then we dealt with a few hard subjects, including thoughts of suicide and experiencing anger toward God. It was very gentle and wise, and you'll find it so helpful. But, even in all that hard stuff, I am telling you this was one of the funniest conversations I have had in a long time. So, get ready to think, grow, and laugh.
Feel the heavy shroud of their silence and sorrow with me, your guide for today's contemplative journey. Together, we'll explore the biblical references to this day in an episode enriched by Margaret Feinberg's insights, revealing the raw emotions that followed the crucifixion. Their confusion and grief, laced with creeping doubt, paint a somber and intimate picture of anticipation for the joy we know is coming. This Holy Saturday, the silence speaks volumes as we piece together the disciples' experience and find comfort in the reassurances Jesus offered them prior to his crucifixion. The episode doesn't just recount a tale of despair; it's a reminder that even in the absence of words, hope can germinate in the darkest of times. Let's honor the quietude of this day by recognizing the profound message it holds — that joy, indeed, can emerge from the deepest sorrows, as we prepare to embrace the triumphant celebration that Easter Sunday promises.Blog read: https://margaretfeinberg.com/holy-week-the-silence-of-saturday/ Now get out into the world and be a woman who intentionally encourages another! #women #podcast

Hey friends! Welcome to Girls' Night! At the moment we're in between seasons here on the show. But while we're waiting for our next official season to begin, we thought this would be a great time to pull some of our favorite episodes out of the Girls Night archive. This is the perfect time to catch up on episodes you might have missed, or listen again to old favorites. Today we're talking about negative thought patterns and how God's word can help us break free from fear and take back our joy. Our guest for today's episode is Margaret Feinberg. She's a writer, speaker, and podcaster and has a brand new book called, More Power to You: Declarations to Break Free from Fear and Take Back Your Life. You guys, I'm SO EXCITED about this episode, because the practice that Margaret talks about in this book, the one she's going to teach you today, has absolutely transformed my faith and my life over the last 10 years or so. It was so cool talking to her about it, because I've never known how to describe or explain or teach this concept, but (as you'll hear!) it's been a mainstay of my faith practice for years, and I can't even tell you how much of a difference it's made in my life. Seriously — this is the practice that helped me go from truly being my own worst critic, to actually feeling beautiful, and loved, and good enough in my own skin. (I'll explain more in the episode!) In a wave of successive life chapters, Margaret Feinberg battled aggressive cancer, chronic pain and financial hardship. During those trials, she learned that she could either “cling to her crisis or cling to Christ.” On today's edition of Family Talk, Margaret candidly explains that faith is not the absence of doubt. The thorns in our lives should drive us back to God, Who is our refuge and strength. Contrary to secular claims, we can't experience transformative faith without sacrifice, suffering, and service. In her book, "More Power To You", Margaret shares that she has learned to pray the simple declaration: “God is good. God is on the throne. Breathe in, breathe out.”

So Much More: Creating Space for God (Lectio Divina and Scripture Meditation)
Margaret is a popular Bible teacher and speaker at churches and conferences. And she's an amazing author who has written too many books to count but many of them are on my short list of favorites like: Fight Back with Joy, Taste and See, and More Power to You. Take a few minutes to listen to the Scripture experience podcast where you'll get to meditate on Psalm 51 by practicing the process of Lectio Divina. Then tune into this interview to hear where God led Margaret. We discuss: - What exactly is sin? Margaret gives a great and simple definition. - Why we need to deal with our own sin – even though we would rather deal with other people's sin. - How to clearly see our sin. - What does David mean when he states, “against you, you only, have I sinned” – because clearly our sin impacts other people too? - Why God is the only remedy and our best hope. - How we can confront lies we believe – especially those that can lead toward self-destructive behavior. The exact verses read in this podcast are Psalm 51:1-4, 10 in the NIV. You can find Margaret at https://margaretfeinberg.com/ And on Instagram @mafeinberg

Our guest today, Margaret Feinberg, Author of "More Power to You: Declarations to Break Free from Fear and Take Back Your Life," writes, "We are all storytellers, and I rehearsed the narrative that if I stopped working hard--in school, at college, as a writer--then everything would disintegrate. Including me. Soon I interpreted every failure and misstep as further proof that I would never be good enough. Perhaps you, too, have sensed the pangs of not being good enough...Today is the day to break free from the unrealistic standards you've been striving to achieve. Declare the words, 'I am God's beloved child in whom he is well pleased.'" In our vibrant conversation, Margaret shares a 90-second daily challenge that changed her life. I believe it will change yours, too.
As we charge ahead in our self-care series, today we're getting into the nitty-gritty of what it actually means to take time to care for our minds, bodies, and souls. So many of us are stuck with 40 items on our to-do but only the time to complete 10—even though we feel like we should be able to complete all 40 and beat ourselves up when we don't. Podcaster and author of More Power to You Margaret Feinberg knows that cycle all too well. Margaret found herself worn down during COVID, and burned out from people pleasing long before that. But during her months in quarantine, she discovered when she gave the world a time-out and began to focus on taking care of herself first, in small and big ways, she began to regain some of the energy and passion and confidence that used to be part of her days. Margaret tells Nancy why self-care isn't a solitary act—even in the midst of pandemic, it can be a community-building exercise that helps us create a more welcoming and loving world for everyone. * * * Breathe life into your soul and find your God-given power with Nancy's Called to Confidence 20-day guide. Well, I'm marveling at God all over again! It's amazing, when we are faithful to open His Word, He will show us something new and life giving over and over. His Word never returns empty! I sensed it again today as I recorded this and even paused for a “response” moment for us to just stop and open our hands and hearts to God! I'm excited to welcome back my friend Margaret Feinberg to the podcast! I truly mean it when I say that I'm excited for you to hear about her new devotional called “More Power To You: Declarations to Break Free from Fear and Take Back Your Life! We've talked about this a lot on this podcast, that there's power in confessing, even out loud, who God is and who we are because of who He is! You're going to love hearing how these declarations help us combat lies that we don't even know that we've made full-on agreements with in this life! There IS freedom in confessing these agreements and declaring the truth of God's Word over our lives everyday! I'll talk to you soon! -Christy Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/christynockels)
The Joycast – While true faith is filled with holy fire, it is a fire that is meant for refining and healing, as opposed to dividing and destroying, according to Scott Sauls. And while that's true of the posts we write and the emails we send, it's even more true of the everyday words we use with our families, spouses, kids, and especially ourselves. For show more show notes and recipes visit: www.margaretfeinberg.com/joycast
