The new book by Graeme Thomson answers many of the questions Simple Minds fans have had for decades. In Themes For Great Cities, Thomson explains (with participation from almost all band members past and present) how their artistically challenging beginning gave rise to their commercial peak in the mid-80s. What were their influences, how were songs like "I Travel" and "Love Song" even constructed, and what was behind the good and bad decisions the band made along the way. Theme is manna from heaven for SM obsessives because as enjoyable as the band is to listen to, they're equally as enjoyable to discuss. www.graemethomson.net www.patreon.com/thehustlepod
Cassie Boyd is this week's guest. Who is Cassie? "Hello, I am Cassie Boyd, the mother of two incredible young men, who are 21 and 23. My journey as a mom has led me to the most personal growth that I have ever experienced. I could not have been as successful at it, without my sons. Oprah said, " There comes a time, in parenting, where you go from managing to consult." I couldn't agree more. Being in the beauty industry for the last 35 years, I have shared my story of co-parenting with many. I share both the positive and the negative. I started a YouTube channel called Share Your Heart at the beginning of 2021, and I also have a blog, cassiedoesblogging.blogspot.com. My main purpose with both is to shed light on the challenges, but the most important part is how to move through them. Remaining a victim is not the answer. I am currently in Education, Salon Development, and Training Concierge for a Hair Extension Company out of San Diego. I Travel all over training stylists on our brand and also training the new trainers." Topics that we discuss, what does it mean to be a successful parent, where "share your heart" comes from, and how to lift up your former spouse. LYRICS: You sent me some sorry lines 'bout passion undyin’, that the oceans can't subside. The storm blew from behind, with all of your lies. You pushed me aside. I traveled the world for you...Lead astray like a fool in the Cobalt Truth. And nobody wants to know. Nobody knows me, no! Nobody even cares. Asea I scream, shout and moan. Cry in a hushed tone and I struggle for air. Rougher seas, darker shade of blue. The frozen winds of my solitude. A sudden turn of the sail asea in icy hail, commandeered by the Cobalt Truth. Whoa, Cobalt Truth. To end is a lovely thing and what joy a new friendship brings with peace of mind. So now, it's understood...embracing the common good...and leave the past behind. Rougher seas, darker shade of blue. The frozen winds of my solitude. A sudden turn of the sail asea in icy hail, commandeered by the Cobalt Truth. Oh, Cobalt Truth. Even in foggy nights, there's a lighthouse in sight and there's a change of tide. I Travel the world for you...as free as a fool. Travel the world for you...as free as a fool in the Cobalt Truth. As free as a fool in the Cobalt Truth.
