We talk about the days when he was hanging out on the Sunset Strip, and how he had his own dream of becoming a rockstar. Suo, kuokka ja Hollywood – kirja syntyi koronavuoden aikana kotimaassa.

Koomikko Ismo Leikolan ja hänen vaimonsa ja kirjoituspartnerinsa Angelikan kirjoittama kirja Suo, Kuokka ja Hollywood julkaistiin 4. maaliskuuta. Kirja kertoo kulttuurishokista, kun Suomen maisemat vaihtuivat Hollywoodiin vuonna 2015, kun Leikola suuntasi Yhdysvaltoihin rakentamaan uraa Atlantin toiselle puolelle. Tarinansa lisäksi Leikolat tekevät poikkileikkauksen niin amerikkalaisuuden kuin suomalaisuudenkin moninaisista puolista. – Toivon, että kirjan lukevat nekin, jotka eivät ole komiikkaani tutustuneet, Leikola sanoo Radio Voiman haastattelussa. Entä onko kyseessä trilogian ensimmäinen osa? Leikolan mukaan ei, mutta hän toteaa, että luultavasti kirjoja tulee pariskunnalta lisää. Tällä hetkellä työn alla on kirjan englanninkielinen versio, jota pariskunta työstää salaisessa paikassa. Kirjasta ilmestyy myöhemmin myös äänikirja, mutta ehti hetken olla kuunneltavissa virheen vuoksi. – Kyseessä ei ollut markkinointikikka. Olimme rouvan kanssa äimistyneitä, että miten näin voi käydä, Leikola vakuuttaa. Leikolan mukaan äänikirjan lukeminen oli mielenkiintoista, koska se eroaa niin stand up -komiikasta kuin ääneen lukemisesta. Radio Voiman haastattelussa Leikola kertoo myös, että olisiko kirja syntynyt ilman koronapandemiaa, joka pysäytti maailman ja millä mielin hän odottaa tulevaisuutta, pelottaako että Amerikassa yleisö unohtaa miehen, kun pandemia hellittää?

Ismo Leikola on nykyisin maailmalla tunnetuin suomalainen stand up -koomikko, joka vierailee maailman isoimmissa talk show -ohjelmissa kertomassa pyllyvitsejä ja keikkailee maailman kovimpien koomikoiden kanssa samoilla lavoilla. Aina ei näin ollut. Vuonna 2002 stand upin aloittanut Leikola oli jo valmis hautaamaan haaveet kansainvälisestä urasta, kun takavuosien esiintymiset kansainvälisillä komediafestareilla eivät vetäneetkään yleisöä tarpeeksi.
