The college football season is about halfway over and there are a lot of teams' seasons that are sitting in the middle of catastrophe and staying in the College Football Playoff hunt. Andy Staples, Ross Dellenger and Steven Godfrey discuss which of these teams may survive and who may be looking for a new coach at the end of the year. Does the losing coach of LSU and South Carolina have to be concerned for his job after so much preseason hype? Is the loser of Texas and Oklahoma eliminated them from CFP contention, or would Oklahoma be able to survive a loss? Will Hugh Freeze be out with a loss to Georgia?Later, a major controversy was the talk of the sports media world yesterday and today the guys discuss. The controversy surrounded Paul Finebaum's absence on ESPN after his interview with Clay Travis, where Finebaum spoke about potential interest in running for Republican Senate in Alabama. Monday, Travis claimed Finebaum was banned from the ESPN main network after not seeing Finebaum on any of the usual shows he is on over the last week. ESPN denied any truth to this and then speculation began. Andy, Ross and Godfrey discuss what all seems to be happening and if there appears to be any truth or if this all may be designed to drum up controversy.*Disclaimer: This conversation was recorded before any confirmation of Finebaum appearing on ESPN on Tuesday morning. Finally, in the new world of NIL and college football, some teams and conferences were bound to fall behind. Steven Godfrey discusses the difficulties the Group of Five teams are having in this new world. He and Andy chat about the concept of some schools dropping down to FCS, or to D-2, and how that may be better than struggling in the Division 1 landscape. Week 6 is in the books, and what looked like it was not going to be a very exciting week of college football proved to be anything but that. The premiere matchup of the night had #3 Miami visiting #18 Florida State. Despite a late comeback by the Seminoles, the Hurricanes proved to be the more dominant team as they walked away with a 28-22 win. Andy Staples, Ross Dellenger and Steven Godfrey discuss Miami's performance, the emergence of Malachi Toney and the overwhelming Miami defense. Plus, they chat about if Miami will be the number one seed in the CFP and if FSU can still make a run for the playoff? Then, the guys discuss the most shocking upset of the day as 0-4 UCLA defeated #7 Penn State. Behind newly named OC Jerry Neuheisel, UCLA scored 42 points and hung on to win 42-37. After two devastating losses, what is going on with Penn State, and are there brighter days ahead this season?Later, the guys discuss another upset from Saturday as Florida took down #9 Texas. Arch Manning continued to struggle as he threw two interceptions on the way to a 29-21 Florida win. With so much hype entering the season, how can Arch turn his season around, or is it time to bench Arch Manning? Andy, Ross and Godfrey discuss this and if there is a path for Texas to still make it to the CFP?Lastly, the guys discuss the other big matchup of the day that saw #10 Alabama avenge last season's upset and beat #16 Vanderbilt. Ty Simpson impressed with over 300 yards passing as Alabama continues to look like a much different team than the one the country saw in the first week of the season when they lost to Florida State. Is Alabama the team to beat out of the SEC despite their early season struggles? A difficult schedule will soon show what can be expected out of this team. All of this and more to wrap up Week 6 on College Football Enquirer.(1:28) - #3 Miami defeats #18 Florida State(19:35) - UCLA upsets #7 Penn State(31:15) - Florida upsets #9 Texas(52:04) - #10 Alabama defeats #16 Vanderbilt(1:04:38) - Around the country Subscribe to the College Football Enquirer on your favorite podcast app:

Week 6 is just a few days away and a few teams are out for some redemption this week. We start in Florida as #18 Florida State looks to redeem themselves after being upset last week at Virginia. However, the redemption will not come easy as they host #3 Miami. Andy Staples, Ross Dellenger and Steven Godfrey discuss this matchup and look at what Florida State has on the line trying to avoid back-to-back losses. They also share their thoughts on this year's Miami team and what a win would do for their season. Could a win put them on the fast-track to the top seed in the CFP? Then, we head to Tuscaloosa as they discuss #10 Alabama hosting #16 Vanderbilt. Alabama is looking to avenge last season's major upset and there will be no underestimating Vanderbilt this year. Can Diego Pavia still lead Vandy to another upset?Later, Ross steps off of the field and onto the court as he shares a bit of insider news about college basketball's NCAA tournament. Talk about expanding the field has continued, with an increase to 76 teams being the most likely choice if the field does expand. Not only do the guys have some strong feelings about this potential move, but they also discuss if this could have any impact on CFP expansion talk. Then, ESPN's Dan Wetzel (who listeners might be familiar with) had to make sure the guys didn't run out of stories to talk about, so he broke some news on Wednesday about the Big Ten. The Big Ten is in talks about a $2 billion dollar investment from a private equity firm. Andy, Ross and Godfrey talk about the impact this could have on college football and the potential pitfalls it would create for the sport. Finally, the guys make their picks for this week's I've Got A Feeling. On Sunday, Andy Staples, Ross Dellenger and Steven Godfrey talked about how they expected Arkansas head coach Sam Pittman to be fired in the near future. By the time the episode was released, Arkansas had indeed fired Pittman, who was in his 6th season. Former Arkansas head coach, and current offensive coordinator, Bobby Petrino, has been named interim head coach and he made it clear that he is interested in removing that interim title. Andy, Ross and Godfrey discuss why this may be a more desirable job than it appears and who might be a fit for the new era of Arkansas football. They also debate if Petrino has a chance at becoming the full-time head coach and how Arkansas can have a program turnaround similar to the one Ole Miss is having right now. Later, we get Ross' Congressional Minute as he explains the new SAFE Act that is being introduced into the Senate. This is a similar act to the already introduced SCORE Act, but there are some key differences. Ross explains the differences between the acts and what they mean for the future of college athletics. The guys discuss which is a better act and where the discussions in Congress will go from here. Lastly, the Week 5 slate in college football was jam-packed with marquee matchups. However, Week 6 is lacking in comparison. The guys discuss the disparity between various weeks of the college season and Godfrey proposes the solution of a central body that does all of the scheduling in college football. Is this something that could actually happen in the future?Join us on today's College Football Enquirer(3:57) - Arkansas' search for a new head coach(30:38) - Ross' Congressional Minute - Explaining the SAFE Act(52:26) - Centralizing scheduling for all of college football Subscribe to the College Football Enquirer on your favorite podcast app:

It has been a busy Week 5 in college football and there haven't even been any games played yet. Tuesday was a drama filled day in the state of Oklahoma. It was announced that three games into his 21st season, Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy was fired. The Oklahoma State legend had taken the school to unprecedented heights, but in recent years there was more struggle than triumph. Losing 11 of his last 12 games, and starting the year with a 1-2 record, that included a 69-3 loss to Oregon and a loss to Tulsa, appeared to be the final straw. Andy Staples, Ross Dellenger and Steven Godfrey react to the firing and discuss where it all started to go wrong for Gundy in recent years. Plus, some other news that came out on Tuesday was that Oklahoma's starting quarterback, John Mateer, broke his hand in Oklahoma's victory over Auburn and needed surgery. He is presumed to be out about a month, but no official timeline has been released. The guys discuss if Oklahoma can survive without Mateer, especially heading into the Red River Rivalry on Oct. 11. Can they still make the playoffs with a few losses if they look good when Mateer returns? Later, Ross gives us his report from the commissioners' meetings this week. Ross was on-site for the meetings where the College Football Playoff formats of the future were discussed. How soon may we get a new format or will we get one at all? It appears a new committee may be formed to help aid in that decision. A frustrated Godfrey chimes in with Andy as the guys give their thoughts on the proceedings. Plus, Ross gives us an update on the SCORE Act in his Congressional Minute. Finally, the guys discuss games. It is a loaded week of fantastic matchups in college football and the guys try to get to as many games as they can. They spoke Tuesday about the big game at Penn State, but what about another big matchup in Athens, GA as #17 Alabama visits #5 Georgia. Plus, top ranked Ohio State goes to Washington, #4 LSU visits #13 Ole Miss and #11 Indiana looks to keep their momentum going at Iowa. Then the guys give their picks for this week's I've Got A Feeling. Rice, Syracuse and the Notre Dame OVER are the picks for this week!Get ready for an epic week 5 with us at College Football Enquirer. #3 Penn State hosting #6 Oregon leads a stacked Week 5 slate in college football. It will be a White Out in Happy Valley on Saturday for the Ducks' first trip into Nittany Lions territory. Oregon got the best of Penn State in last season's Big Ten Championship game, but there is a key difference for Penn State this year. New defensive coordinator Jim Knowles. Knowles knows the Ducks well from facing them twice last season when he was the defensive coordinator for the national champions, Ohio State. Ross Dellenger talked with Knowles in the offseason about making the switch from Columbus to Happy Valley. Andy Staples and Steven Godfrey join Ross as they discuss the impact Knowles is having for Penn State this year, how important this game is for James Franklin and what we can expect from this matchup.Later, the guys chat about the release of part of the new SEC conference schedule. The annual opponents for each team have been revealed. Andy, Ross and Godfrey discuss how these matchups were decided and what we should take away from this new schedule. The rest of the schedule is to be released later today. Plus, the ACC followed the SEC's lead and announced they too will be playing a nine-game conference schedule starting in 2026. Each of the Power 4 conferences is now playing a nine-game conference schedule, but there are still some inequalities among conference schedules. The guys discuss what these are, how they can be adjusted and what this scheduling impact could mean for the future of college football.Lastly, all 32 Division 1 conference commissioners are meeting this weekend. It is expected a new CFP format will be discussed along with a host of other notable topics in the world of college athletics. Ross will be there and while he does not expect there will be much news on the CFP front, there is sure to be plenty of information that will come out of the meetings. We will get his report from the meetings on Thursday.Thursday will also hold a conversation about Oklahoma State's firing of Mike Gundy.Get prepped for an epic Saturday on today's College Football Enquirer.(4:02) - #3 Penn State's showdown with #6 Oregon(27:11) - SEC's new annual opponents for their nine-game conference schedule(44:12) - ACC announces a nine-game conference schedule(50:04) - What we may find out from the conference commissioners' meeting Subscribe to the College Football Enquirer on your favorite podcast app:

[DONATE WITH PAYPAL] Greg explores the medieval Catholic ideal of chivalry—a powerful blend of manly courage, martial skill, and Christian virtue aimed at defending the vulnerable and imitating Christ. He defines the term's origins and meaning, drawing on etymology and historical context. Featuring quotations from sources like Ramon Llull's "Book of the Order of Chivalry," St. Bernard of Clairvaux's writings on the Templars, and Thomas Aquinas on fortitude, Greg unpacks how this vision integrated faith and action. Through examples of saints like St. George, St. Michael, St. Joseph, St. Martin of Tours, Godfrey of Bouillon, and St. Louis IX, plus chivalric figures in Arthurian legends and Dante's Divine Comedy, he reflects on chivalry's role in a holistic Catholic worldview. He also critiques the modern shift away from robust manly virtues toward emotive expressions in Christianity, including the erosion via standing armies and the longing among Protestants and evangelicals for godly masculinity, calling for a reclaiming of this timeless ideal. Send us a textWhat happens when tragedy and opportunity collide in the life of a child? Dr. Aruna Stevens' story answers this question with breathtaking resilience and hope. Born just before Sierra Leone's devastating civil war, Aruna's childhood was shattered when his father was killed and his extended family of twenty separated. He experienced homelessness, hunger, and the daily struggle for survival in a community where healthcare was virtually non-existent—where people routinely died from treatable conditions simply because there were no doctors available. The turning point came when the Child Rescue Centre welcomed young Aruna, providing stability and education for the first time in his life. Despite studying by candlelight and walking long distances to school, he persevered. This foundation eventually led him to graduate from Sierra Leone's only medical college and serve as chief medical director at Mercy Hospital for five years. Now pursuing a PhD in tropical medicine and infectious diseases at Tulane University, Dr. Stevens explains how his difficult past fuels his passion for creating sustainable healthcare solutions in his homeland.Throughout our conversation, Dr. Stevens shares the motivation he finds in his two-year-old son, Godfrey, who remains in Sierra Leone while he completes his studies. His ultimate goal transcends personal achievement—he envisions transforming Mercy Hospital into a self-sufficient institution and establishing research teams to address neglected tropical diseases. "Begin every journey with an end in mind," he advises our listeners, emphasizing that true fulfillment comes from focusing on the broader impact of your work. Join us for this powerful reminder that how a child's journey ends isn't determined by how it begins, but by the decisions, support, and determination they find along the way. Week 4 is upon us and it is a huge weekend for the Big Ten. The game everyone has been talking about involves two schools that have not been thought of as powers in the conference, but they may have something to say about that this year. 9th-ranked Illinois visits 19th-ranked Indiana in the first big test of the season for both schools. Steven Godfrey explains why he thinks this game is so important for the Big Ten. Andy Staples and Ross Dellenger join in on previewing the game. Another notable Big Ten matchup this week involves 21st-ranked Michigan visiting undefeated Nebraska. Michigan goes into the game without head coach Sherrone Moore, who is serving part of his suspension from the Michigan penalties. The unusual part is that Moore was not only suspended for the game, but he was also suspended for the whole week. The guys discuss this unique situation and give their thoughts on how this game may play out. Later in the show, Andy, Ross and Godfrey discuss the spirited press conference from Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney. Although no one truly believes he is getting fired, the guys discuss why he may have decided to say all that he said. They also dive into Clemson's chance at making it back to both the ACC title game and the College Football Playoff. Then, we get our update from congress in Ross' Congressional Minute, which shockingly only takes one minute. There is news about the SCORE Act, and whether it's good or bad depends on your feelings about the act itself. Finally, the guys can't preview a weekend without making picks! I've Got A Feeling is here and Andy is looking for his first win of the season as he, Ross & Godfrey make their picks. Memphis, Nebraska and UTSA lead the way this week. Kerry James Marshall: The Histories at the Royal Academy of Arts in London is the largest ever European retrospective of the work of the US artist and has been greeted with universal critical acclaim. Ben Luke takes a tour of the exhibition with Mark Godfrey, its curator, and visits a related exhibition of Marshall's graphic novel project, Rythm Mastr, at The Tabernacle in Notting Hill, London, with the co-curator of that show with Godfrey, Nikita Sena Quarshie. Last week, the National Gallery in London announced that it will build a major new extension, at a cost around £400m, of which £375m has already been raised. Project Domani, as it is called, is billed by the National as the largest transformation since it was founded, 200 years ago. The National will also expand its collecting boundary beyond 1900 in a major shift in the division of UK national collections. The Art Newspaper's digital editor, Alexander Morrison, talks to the director of the National Gallery, Gabriele Finaldi. This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit www.splitzoneduo.comOne quarter of the way through the season, Godfrey, Richard, and Alex discuss five teams that are off to terrible starts and haven't fired their coaches yet. They all look doomed to at least a bad season and maybe more than that, but can we find reasons for hope? In this episode: * How Billy Napier's staff management at Florida has made him an easy target for criticism as DJ Lagway has gone backward in his second year * Oklahoma State has fallen behind not just the blue-bloods of the sport, but most of the Big 12. Mike Gundy no longer looks like the guy to fix it* Wisconsin built its roster expecting that it could still act like the Wisconsin of the 2010s, putting a moneyball QB into a good support system. But the Badgers might not be able to operate that way anymore. * Northwestern is going in the wrong direction under David Braun. That doesn't look like his fault, but he also probably isn't the man to fix it. (Also, Pat Fitzgerald is probably getting back into coaching soon. Just saying.) * Liberty has so much more money than its peers but has now lost six of its last 10 games going back to last October. Maybe Jamey Chadwell's trick at Coastal Carolina wasn't as portable as once thought. After going through each of this situations, we wonder: Which of these programs has the best chance to get back on an upward path soon? Rebel Grove's Ben Garrett is joined in this edition of Talk of Champions, powered by RiverLand Roofing, by Steven Godfrey of Yahoo! Sports and the Washington Post. The 2025-26 college football season is only in Week 3, but Lane Kiffin's name is already, predictably, being floated for other potential jobs, namely Florida. Such has been the case for Kiffin every year at Ole Miss, yet Kiffin's in his sixth season and has laid down personal and professional roots.Godfrey provides a national perspective, breaks down the growth of the program and the always-wacky Ole Miss-Arkansas series, as well as helps make sense of big-ticket items such as the upcoming nine-game SEC slate and one portal window.Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
