On our episode today we are getting down into the details, deep the weeds, in order to understand what it takes to scale a healthcare business to $100M. For that wisdom we turned to Sofia Guerra, an investor at Bessemer Venture Partners. We recently had her on our Health Transformer University Masterclass series to share top takeaways from a recent benchmarks report published by her firm. She distilled their very detailed work into five key takeaways and then hung around to answer questions from our audience of StartUp Health founders. In this session, which was hosted by Jamey Edwards, Chief Platform Officer here at StartUp Health, Sofia gets into all the critical operational, financial, and clinical performance metrics that health tech companies need to care about if they're going to thrive and scale. For the purpose of this podcast, we'll drop right into the middle of the conversation between Jamey and Sofia, focusing on her advice for founders. Enjoy! Welcome to StartUp Health NOW, the podcast where we celebrate the entrepreneurs and innovators who are transforming health. As we've reported recently, the health tech funding landscape has tightened in the last year. In other words, it's harder to raise money for your business. But there's an upside to this cooler market: There's a heightened emphasis being put on the fundamentals of business like cash flow and profitability. That means less noise being generated around innovations that turn out to be smoke and mirrors and more focused on smart, sustainable business ideas. That's good news for the right kind of founders, the ones we call Health Transformers. But, it still isn't easy. When a startup is facing an ever-shrinking runway and having to show strong revenue numbers, it can be difficult to take the time to formulate a cohesive sales strategy that allows the business not only to survive the long sales cycle in healthcare, but thrive long term as it seeks to achieve its audacious health moonshot. To help founders tackle this challenge head on, we invited Collin Stewart, the CEO of Predictable Revenue, to join us for a recent Fireside Chat. The conversation was hosted by Jamey Edwards in front of a live virtual audience of founders from the StartUp Health portfolio. They cover themes like being radically open to market feedback and even pull some wisdom from Collin's days as a professional musician. This week's episode of StartUp Health NOW is a conversation with Jamey Edwards, Chief Operating Officer at StartUp Health. Jamey has been working in the telemedicine space for more than a decade, and his last company, Cloudbreak, went public via SPAC last year. So when we saw the headlines that Teladoc's stock dropped 40% – alongside other dips in the telemedicine public market – we called him up for a dose of perspective. In this conversation with host Logan Plaster, Edwards breaks down the news from Wall Street and gives startups some health moonshot wisdom. Bottom line: stay focused on the mission because improving global health is a marathon, not a sprint. Jamey Edwards, CEO of Cloudbreak Health, shares the work he's been doing to humanize and fix the healthcare system in the US. In this episode, we talk about telemedicine 3.0 and humanizing healthcare. We spoke with Jamey Edwards, the CEO and founder of Cloudbreak, a company delivering telemedicine solutions to hospitals across the US. Cloudbreak provides more than one million minutes of telemedicine consultation through over 75,000 encounters each month. Cloudbreak invests heavily in creating engaging experiences through their products, and it is clearly working. Their solutions are being used in over 700 hospitals, including two of the top 20 hospitals in the US (Cedars Sinai in Los Angeles, #11, and NYU Langone Medical Center, #19). To top it off, they are achieving 50% annual growth and have just joined Startup Health as a portfolio company. Jamey is very concerned about physician burnout and the clinicians working at the coal face of healthcare delivery. As a result, he is highly focused on improving the healthcare environment for the people that work in it. In our discussion, Jamey shares how their work has been shaped through their collaboration with Nick Adkins (@nickisnpdx) and the #pinksocks movement, and the role of the Peter Diamandis and his Abundance 360 program had in framing Cloudbreak's approach. Jamey also shares his perspective on humanizing healthcare, and he tells us the 5 things that, in his view, are key to humanizing healthcare.
