Episode 74 is my opportunity to discuss "Jewish memorabilia'' with Neil Keller. Long before Neil made his home here in South Florida, he became an avid collector of trading cards, autographs and other memorabilia of famous Jewish people. Over the past 37 years he has collected over 22,000 items which he claims makes it among the largest in the world. He has been a featured speaker at the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown NY and has spoken at the Toronto Jewish Film Festival. The Washington Post, Jerusalem Post and Sun Sentinel have written about his hobby and he boasts countless articles in various publications. He was even the subject of a movie produced in 2000, "Obsessed with Jews'" by Jeff Krulik. We are also pleased to bring back Pamela Weinroth, Executive Director of the Boca West Children's Foundation. She updates us on their activities supporting over 30 nonprofit agencies in South Florida (committed to assisting our most vulnerable children). As always, I hope you find our conversations worth a listen!

Rick and Dave chat with the filmmaker who brought you “Heavy Metal Parking Lot”, “Ernest Borgnine on the Bus” and “Hitler’s Hat” among others, Jeff Krulik. [Ep40] The post MM Celebrity Interview – Filmmaker Jeff Krulik appeared first on Radio Misfits.
What's to be said about Heavy Metal Parking Lot? Well, it's infinitely entertaining, crude and also hilarious. The more conservative might find it appalling. Me...I think it's an important documentation of a subculture that really does not exist much these days. Don't get wrong though, it does make me laugh and it really triggers my urge to drink. Jeff Krulik and John Heyn are the minds behind Heavy Metal Parking Lot and a host of other fascinating videos/shorts. We discuss Heavy Metal Parking Lot, King of Porn, Forestville Rocks, and others. Check out their websites for links to merch and more videos! http://www.heavymetalparkinglot.com/ https://www.youtube.com/user/jeffkrulik/videos
Thirty-three years ago, two young men named Jeff Krulik and John Heyn drove to the parking lot outside the Capital Centre in Landover, Maryland, to interview a crowd of teen and 20-something tailgaters about to see a Judas Priest concert. The 17-minute film they came away with became a legendary rock-and-roll document. We're talking about "Heavy Metal Parking Lot." Hell yeah. We're ready to rock. They say you haven't truly arrived as a podcaster until one of your guests passes away. In our case, we say goodbye to the "King of Porn" Ralph Wittington. We speak to friend of the show Jeff Krulik who put Ralph on the map with his short documentary. Jim and Sean also get backed up on the latest Humira commercial. Big pharma never fails to let us down.
Documentary film director and the man responsible for the iconic Heavy Metal Parking Lot, Jeff Krulik takes us through his public access beginnings to his successful run as award winning "doc jock". In a relevant bonus clip, Ernest Borgnine shares the secrets of longevity and hyperbole abounds when Jenny falls off the "cliff".

We interview filmmaker Jeff Krulik after a screening of his documentary "Led Zeppelin Played Here" at Suns Cinema (a super-cool theater) in Washington DC. Jeff's film explores a bit of music folklore — some say that Led Zeppelin played a show to about 50 people at the Wheaton Youth Center in Maryland in January 1969. Yet there is no physical documentation of this concert. Jeff is also well-known for the short film "Heavy Metal Parking Lot," which you can find on YouTube. Watch it! Episode 9 so divine. Have ya heard, bruh? Judas Priest is in town! Also we're traveling back in time to 1986. Hope you're not attached to those shirt sleeves, because Stuart Von and Bob Sham are tackling the inimitable cult classic "Heavy Metal Parking Lot" by producer/directors John Heyn and Jeff Krulik. It was a moment in time where not liking Judas Priest would probably get you called something inappropriate. Something special was captured in the parking lot of a Maryland suburb in 1986. A document of joy and inebriation. Priest rules man. Priest is baaaaaaad.
See Hear Podcast comes to the end of its fourth year of existence. Slowly but surely, we’ve been bringing you discussions about all manner of music-related films since January 2014. To celebrate, Tim, Bernard and Maurice want to party like its 1986. We are joined by one of the two creators of the film / time capsule known as Heavy Metal Parking Lot, Jeff Krulik. Jeff and John Heyn hung out for 2 hours in the parking lot of the Capital Centre in Landover, Maryland on May 31 1986 just prior to a Judas Priest concert. They went armed with a camera, a microphone, four U-matic tapes, and the bravado to ask the teens / early twenty-somethings about their love for heavy metal music. The result honestly captures the joy these fans had at celebrating a particular time in their life. The film doesn’t romanticise their youth, nor mock it – it is simply a record of a night. There are truths that can be applied to any community worldwide. Jeff and John went on to make further short films of a similar nature investigating fans of different aspects of popular culture (like Phish, monster trucks, Neil Diamond, Harry Potter), but HMPL is where it all started. The See Hear crew are grateful that Jeff gave so willingly of his time to talk about this important film. It slowly gained many fans over the years, many of them musicians – which shows us that they too are fans. To all See Hear listeners, thanks so much for sticking with us for another year. We’re all hugely grateful, and look forward to bringing you great shows for your earholes in 2018. "I have never picked the safe option and I have never regretted choosing what I've chosen ever," says Sy Montgomery. Hey there, CNFers, hope you're having a CNFin' good week. My, oh, my, where do we start? Maybe if you're new to the podcast I should let you know what it's about. This is the show where I speak to the world's best artists about creating works of nonfiction: leaders in narrative journalism (like Susan Orlean), personal essay (like Matthew Mercier), memoir (like Pulitzer Prize-winner Madeleine Blais), radio (Joe Donahue), and documentary film like (Jeff Krulik and Penny Lane). As of now it's mainly writers, but I'm scurrying like heck to get more filmmakers and radio producers on the show. It's my job to tease out origins, habits, routines, and points of craft so that you can apply those tools of mastery to your own work. I also hope that in having these conversations you might also not feel as lonely or alone in your artistic pursuits. You'll notice every single guest has the same set of anxieties you have and they manage to get the work done. I deal with my own self-hatred and lack of worth from the moment my alarm goes off at 4 a.m. so there you have it. Today's guest is Sy Montgomery and you probably know her from her gargantuan bestseller The Soul of an Octopus: A Surprising Exploration into the World of Consciousness. It was a National Book Award Finalist and just one of the literally dozens of books Sy has written about animals. In this episode we talk about: Sy getting her start as a business writer in Buffalo, NY Belief in projects even when you don't believe in yourself Being open to your expectations of a story changing as you go And much, much more Frankly, I came away from this conversation feeling good, just good, and the people who make you feel that way are the people you want to surround yourself with. I know I ended that sentence with a preposition, but whatever. Before I send you off into the Animal Kingdom with Sy, here's that part where I ask you to leave an honest review on the iTunes. Any review posted from now through the end of 2017 gets an hour-long editorial consult from me, which is a $50 value if you like putting dollars and cents on things. Simply send me a screenshot of your review and I'll reach out. My pile of editorial is growing thanks to you. Reviews are the currency we play with to reach more people and empower them to do the kind of work they find most inspiring.

For our first SF Sketchfest live show, we had a fun panel to watch Heavy Metal Parking Lot (1986) and Neil Diamond Parking Lot (1996), short documentaries by Jeff Krulik and John Heyn. They document two very different sets of music fans in Landover, Maryland a decade apart. HMPL achieved cult status from its beginnings as a cable access doc, circulating on VHS and finally receiving a DVD release in 2006. Our esteemed panel of Emily Heller, Chris Thayer, and David Gborie wax nostalgic and relive teenage embarrassments with Paco and George. We painstakingly explain ska and confront anti-semitism, fully reenacting 1986. There may be a surprise visit from the Sup Doc Parking Lot players (Mary Van Note and Nick Stargu aka DJ Real). Thanks to all our guests, SF Sketchfest, and Pianofight for hosting.Comedian Emily Heller has appeared on Conan, on John Oliver’s New York Stand Up Show, and at New Faces at the 2012 Montreal Just For Laughs Festival. In 1986, Jeff Krulik & John Heyn set out with a camera and no real goal in mind. They ended up Outside the Capitol Center-a local music "super venue" during a Judas Priest Concert. What followed was the cult sensation "Heavy Metal Parking Lot". Jeff talks about making the film, how he got started plus his reality foray with "Ernest Borgnine on the Bus" and more. Stay Relevant: Interviews with Interesting People in TV and Beyond. A podcast by Mike Sobola.
We go deep, deep into Jeff Krulik’s mind. If you’ve barely heard of him, you know HEAVY METAL PARKING LOT (1986), an incredible time capsule of Judas Priest fans waiting to see a show. If you’ve pushed below the surface, you might know him capturing unusual celebrity personalities like Freddie Blassie or Ernest Borgnine. Keep descending and you’ll get to his great portraits of interesting outsiders. We go to the bottom of his mind where the monsters live and talk about his new project LED ZEPPELIN PLAYED HERE.
