Welcome to this ENCORE PRESENTATION of classic REVOLUTIONS PER MOVIE episodes from the vaults.Today, we pay tribute to filmmaker Brian Lindstrom, who sadly passed away recently, with this incredible discussion about the film he co-directed, LOST ANGEL: THE GENIUS OF JUDEE SILL, with his co-director Andy Brown & Aquarium Drunkard's Jason P. Woodbury. Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing or working with Brian will tell you he was one of the kindest, wisest, and big-hearted people ever, and his filmmaking absolutely reflected that. If you haven't seen his films Lost Angel, Mothering Inside, or Alien Boy yet, please take the time to spend with these incredibly powerful films. He will be missed.(Episode 39 originally aired on June 6th, 2024).This week, I'm joined by JASON P. WOODBURY (of Aquarium Drunkard) and filmmakers BRIAN LINDSTROM & ANDY BROWN to discuss their incredible new film LOST ANGEL: THE GENIUS OF JUDEE SILL. We talked about Judee Sill's gnostic relationship to her music and how she backed it up in her lifestyle, what our introductions to her music were like, Sill's disdain of being lumped in with Christian Rock & opening for rock bands, her influence on Andy Partridge of XTC, how the filmmakers shaped the film over the past ten years, Tooth & Nail Records, the mythologizing of a subject's life in documentary filmmaking, Asylum Records and her ups and downs with David Geffen, Some Kind Of Monster, Sill's vulnerability and ego in her diary writings and drawings, how they chose to animate Sill's artwork and found her voice, Sill's influence on a new generation of musicians, her iconic Old Grey Whistle Test performance of “The Kiss,” how the film addresses childhood trauma, addiction, and resilience, what parts of Sill's life didn't fit into the film, and the power of Alice Coltrane, Sun Ra, Guided By Voices & SST Records. So join us as we talk about one of the greatest songwriters to ever be part of the cosmos, Judee Sill, on this week's Revolutions Per Movie.WATCH LOST ANGEL: THE GENIUS OF JUDEE SILLhttps://greenwichentertainment.com/film/JASON P. # 193 - The 3 BIG Mistakes Grain Growers Are Making And What It's Costing, with Market Check Leaders, Brett Stevenson & Nick Crundall

Profitable Farmer

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 5, 2026 63:05

There's an old saying that uncertainty creates opportunity.  But if you're a grain grower right now, uncertainty can also create confusion, hesitation, and some pretty costly decisions.  Over the past few years, we've seen massive swings in commodity prices, input costs, weather patterns, and global politics. For many farm businesses, it feels like the rules keep changing. One minute we're talking about record production and oversupply. The next, global conflict, fund money, and drought concerns are driving volatility back into the market.  In this episode, I'm joined by Market Check's Managing Director and Founder, Brett Stevenson and CEO, Nick Crundall to unpack what has changed in global grain markets over the past nine months and what Australian grain growers need to be thinking about right now.  More importantly, we explore the mindset and disciplines that separate consistently successful grain marketers from everyone else.  We cover:  How global conflict, rising fertiliser costs, and speculative investment are influencing grain prices and market volatility.  Why global wheat stocks are tightening after record production years and what that means for the outlook for Australian growers.  Insights around hedging, forward selling and grain storage, including why many growers continue to leave money on the table despite producing excellent crops.   The common mistake of allowing tax planning and cash flow pressures to drive grain marketing decisions instead of following a clear strategy   Nick shares some compelling analysis comparing hedging versus traditional forward selling and the long-term performance difference between growers who actively manage risk and those who don't. You can access Market Check's analysis here.  This conversation also reinforces themes I explored with Jeff McDonald around financial clarity, proactive planning, and leading your business with confidence rather than reacting to circumstances. If you haven't listened to that episode yet, I'd encourage you to do so here.  Nick and Brett, thank you both for your time, your honesty, and your willingness to share what you've learned over many years working alongside growers.  Here's to a great season ahead,  Sincerely,  Jeremy Hutchings and the Farm Owners Academy Team.

My guest this week is NYC-based musician, author, and performance artist Joseph Keckler (NPR's Tiny Desk, tours with Lydia Lunch & Sleater-Kinney), who chose the 1929 two-reeler short St. Louis Blues, which is the legend Bessie Smith's first and only film appearance. We discuss Joseph's iconic performance on NPR's Tiny Desk Concert Series, how he came to unleash his powerful vocal range on a wide range of audiences, choosing to write and sing in German about the adult moments where he was relapsing into a teenage Goth, befriending and touring with Lydia Lunch, Bebe Hansen, the current No-Wave scene in NYC, the excitement of having a standoff with an audience, opening for Sleater-Kinney, confusing but life-altering concert billings, where we both were when first hearing Bessie Smith and the imprint it left on us, why this 1929 short film of Bessie Smith was almost destroyed in the 50s, tape trading with The Residents, hearing Aretha Franklin's voice coming up through the floorboards and being obsessed with Cab Calloway & Bessie Smith as a child, Bessie's acting chops and the unique direction of this performance & more.So let's sing at the top of our lungs into the bottom of our beer mug on this week's Revolutions Per Movie.Joseph will be performing on May 31st 2026 in NYC at TV EYE w/ Genre Is DeathTickets available at tveyenyc.com/calendarJOSEPH KECKLER:josephkeckler.com/BESSIE SMITH in ST. Are your strongest, most energetic leaders secretly drowning? In this powerful episode of  Connected Leadership Bytes, Andy goes into the archives for a conversation that is more relevant today than ever before. He revisits the very first episode of the podcast, featuring two senior corporate leaders who appeared to have it all—until they didn't. This isn't just another talk on mental health; it's a raw, honest look inside the minds of high-achievers who hit rock bottom. Discover why the "brighter the light, the darker the shadow," and why the people you least expect are often the most vulnerable. Our guests, Jeff McDonald, former Global VP of HR for Unilever, and Perry Burton, Head of People and Culture at Grant Thornton, share their deeply personal stories. They shatter the myth that leadership is about invincibility and expose the performative wellness trap—where "bananas in the canteen" and a single "wellbeing week" replace genuine, strategic investment in people's health. Listen to learn how to transform your organisation's culture from one that diminishes its people to one that enhances their lives, making health the ultimate driver of performance. Key Takeaways The Brightest Lights Cast the Darkest Shadows: High-performers and seemingly energetic, positive leaders are often exceptionally good at masking their internal struggles. Vulnerability is a Leadership Superpower: When leaders share their own struggles, it normalises the conversation, reduces stigma, and creates a culture where it's safe for others to ask for help. Health is a Performance Driver, Not a Perk: The energy of your people is your most critical asset. Asking for Help Isn't Giving Up; It's Refusing To: Seeking support is an act of strength and control, demonstrating a commitment to recovery and getting back on track. Actionable Insights Conduct a "Wellness Audit": As a leader, critically evaluate your company's efforts. Are you just offering perks (the "bananas in the canteen"), or are you actively changing workloads, management styles, and communication to genuinely reduce stress and enhance energy. Schedule Your Own "Self-Compassion" Block: You cannot pour from an empty glass. Block out 30 minutes in your calendar this week for a non-work activity you will not move (e.g., a walk without your phone, reading, listening to music).
