This week I welcome my good friend Jimmy Keegan (formerly of Spocks Beard) to talk about his brand new record "Jimmy Keegan", the making of it, the covers, how it came about, the players, then we get into his acting career in iconic films like "Over The Top", "Breakin 2 Electric Boogaloo", and his role as the voice of Sherman Peabody in "Back To The Future" and you're damn right, I was able to get KISS into the conversation with someone from the Prog World as I grill him on the importance of Peter Criss and Ringo Starr.......of course we talk Cruise To The Edge as well. AMERICAN PROG ROCK SUPERGROUP PATTERN-SEEKING ANIMALS RELEASE NEW ALBUM ‘SPOOKY ACTION AT A DISTANCE' Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Interviewing the Legends I'm your host Ray Shasho. Since the release of their self-titled debut album in 2019, Los Angeles-based quartet Pattern-Seeking Animals have been one of the prog scene's most prolific outfits. Formed from members of the influential group Spock's Beard, Pattern-Seeking Animals (P-SA) has staked claim to its own identity, forging a new path in the prog scene. Named after a quote about human behavior from science historian Michael Shermer, PS-A is John Boegehold (keyboards and production), Ted Leonard (lead vocals and guitar), bassist Dave Meros, and the energetic and talented Jimmy Keegan on drums. Boegehold, known for his film scores and innovative prog compositions, initially formed the group due to the desire to find a home for material that was not quite the right fit for Spock's Beard. Sessions took place with Leonard, Meros and Keegan, and P-SA was born. Ever since, the group has been creating music that is ‘progressive and intricate while keeping things immediate and melodic,' with critically acclaimed albums. The group's new release ‘Spooky Action at a Distance' continues to build on the band's prior successes while branching out into new territory. The group has long put to rest that this is a part-time project. Spooky Action at a Distance finds Pattern-Seeking Animals more confident than ever, approaching new soundscapes and topics, combined with the DNA of their previous work for their most memorable and powerful album to date. PLEASE WELCOME THE LYRICIST FOR PROG ROCK'S SPOCK'S BEARD AND KEYBOARDIST/SONGWRITER/COMPOSER/ SINGER/FOR PROGRESSIVE ROCK SUPERGROUP PATTERN-SEEKING ANIMALS JOHN BOEGEHOLD TO INTERVIEWING THE LEGENDS … PURCHASE THE LATEST RELEASE BY PATTERN-SEEKING ANIMALS Entitled Spooky Action at a Distance Available in the following formats: • Limited 2CD Digipak* • Digital album* • 2LP Gatefold vinyl 180g** *including 3 live bonus tracks from ProgStock 2022 **including 2 live bonus tracks from ProgStock 2022 Purchase Spooky Action at a Distance here: https://patternseekinganimals.lnk.to/SpookyActionAtADistance Spooky Action at a Distance finds Pattern-Seeking Animals more confident than ever, approaching new soundscapes and topics, showcasing their evolution, and commitment to pushing their own creative boundaries. John Boegehold explains, “Because this is our fourth release in less than five years, my intention was to shift gears and not go over ground that's already been covered. In addition to using different sounds, textures and musical styles, we approached the vocals, especially backing vocals from a fairly different angle. In addition, the album was recorded, mixed and mastered at a different studio with a different engineer than our previous three releases.” The different approach is not only noticeable in production and sounds, but in the lyrics as well. “The subject matter of the lyrics include a Norse king contemplating life while being conquered, an aging seeker on the path toward enlightenment, aliens hunting down humans trying to evade capture, the life of a conflicted soldier before and after WW1, a pregnant teenager leaving a bad situation at home, a reluctant hero victorious in her final battle and a guy's girlfriend who leaves him because of his conspiracy theories.” FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT PATTERN-SEEKING ANIMALS VISIT http://PSAnimals1.com Official website http://Facebook.com/psanimals1 Facebook https://twitter.com/psanimals1 Twitter https://www.instagram.com/psanimals1/ Instagram INSIDEOUT MUSIC online: www.insideoutmusic.com www.youtube.com/InsideOutMusicTV www.facebook.com/InsideOutMusic www.twitter.com/InsideOutUSA www.insideoutmusicshop.com INSIDEOUTMUSIC Spotify Playlist: http://spotify.com/progrockessentials Discography Pattern-Seeking Animals (2019) Prehensile Tales (2020) Only Passing Through (2022) Spooky Action at a Distance (2023) Support us on PayPal!

Each year, we always make sure to check in with film icon Sylvester Stallone, and the movie he put out in 1987 is a special one. Over the Top, released February 13th, is an arm wrestling sports film that also really wants to be a father-and-son bonding movie. We're joined by comedian Mitch Garling to see how it stacks up against the other two bad Stallone films we've covered. We talk about "Over the Top" movie where Jimy played a bully, we talk Kenny Loggins and everything in between. Jimmy started playing at 10 years old. A few months after receiving his first drum set he landed a TV show alongside the late River Phoenix. A few months later he was doing theater in LA as a cast member and musician. By 14 he started his first band Polo that would end up in regular rotation at Disneyland as well as winning Starsearch and performing on numerous telethons. By 18 he had started getting calls for sessions and tours. It expanded from there. “I was lucky to have a huge family with all kinds of music playing at all times. As I grew as a musician, I just continued that trend of listening to everything. Consequently, I get calls from R&B artists as often as rock, pop and country artists.” From Santana, John Waite and Kenny Loggins to Tevin Campbell to Tony Orlando. 2003 Jimmy began touring with Spock’s Beard alongside fellow Aquarian artist Nick D’Virgilio. 2012 saw Nick leaving and Jimmy taking over as the full time drummer with the release of Brief Nocturnes and Dreamless Sleep and 2015 with The Oblivion Particle. Now on to new territory, A solo album coming and a new band Pattern Seeking Animals.
Born in 2019 as the apparent off-spring of Spock’s Beard, Pattern-Seeking Animals features the soaring vocals of Ted Leonard, the dexterous and creative rhythm section of Dave Meros and Jimmy Keegan, and mastermind songwriter and keyboardist John Boegehold. After releasing their debut CD in the summer of 2019 the band wasted no time in coming [...] The post Beasts On Lockdown: An Interview with All Members of PATTERN-SEEKING ANIMALS appeared first on Sonic Perspectives.

Legendary drummer, Jimmy Keegan, is Martin's guest on this episode. Jimmy was the drummer for the progressive rock band Spock's Beard. He's also played drums for artists such as Santana, Selena, and John Waite. BONUS: Martin's silly mother, Kathy Lastrapes, serves as co-host in this episode, making an unforgettable (and hilarious) appearance.
It’s been awhile since we had a chance to chat with Robert Berry, and he’s been BUSY since last we spoke, to say the least. 3.2 is on tour now, crossing the country and paying tribute to the musical genius of Keith Emerson.. During the conversation we touched on everything from Carl Palmer to what bass strings he uses, to breakfast cereal! Little did we know that Robert was a fan of Frosted Flakes and to this day plays a Washburn custom bass that Sammy Hagar gave him as a gift. Along the way we learned what they have planned for Progstock coming up in New Jersey and whether or not they’re going to continue along the arc of 3. The band is made up of Robert, Jimmy Keegan, Paul Keller and Andrew Colyer. Robert talks about just how amazing the band is and how well (and quickly) they came together as a group. If you get a chance to catch the live show, you owe it to yourself to do so. It has been receiving rave reviews everywhere they’ve performed. For our Wisconsin listeners, they’ll be playing Shank Hall in Milwaukee on October 20. Thanks as always to Anastasia Vishnevsky for our theme music and as always, please consider subscribing to our podcast through your favorite app. If you like what you hear, please consider giving us a favorable rating AND subscribing at iTunes, Spotify, the iHeartRadio app or wherever you’re listening to us. Every positive review helps new listeners find the show.
