Went to the NJ Horror con and Film Festival and had a quick sit down with Peter Criss. He had a few minutes while on a break so we chatted.
Before the fire, before the blood, before the bombs, the boots, the makeup, and the myth… there was a struggling New York band trying to find its way. This week, we go Before the Thunder with Lew Linet — the man who witnessed Wicked Lester evolve into KISS. He saw Gene Klein become Gene Simmons, Stanley Eisen become Paul Stanley, Peter Crisscuola become Peter Criss, and Paul Frehley become Ace. From the shelved Epic Records album to the early club grind at The Daisy, Lew was there before the world understood what was coming. This is the story of rejection, reinvention, and persistence — told by someone who saw the lightning strike before the thunder rolled. He later built a career in the automotive industry, carrying those early lessons in perseverance into the training work he still shares today. So this week we talk about the Peter Criss NJ HORROR CON EXPO appearance and the KISS KRUISE!
So Ace's birthday is April 27th, and we decided to have a celebration with our new friend Space Frehley! His Ace Tribute Show has been the talk of KISS fans all over and we wanted to take the opportunity to talk with him not only to see how his show came about but also to talk about our love for the Space Man Ace Frehley!
What a thrill to meet the one and only Peter Criss! I'd never met or interviewed him before, and I found him great to talk with! His new solo album is out, and it's fantastic. The music covers the gamut of old rock n' roll, to the blues, to 50's rock, and much more. It's honestly one of the most diverse albums I've heard in a long time. Peter talked to me about the album and the many players on it. This record has been in the works for some time, so it's great that it's out. We also discussed coming back to Detroit Rock City. He's been in town for a few days, taking in everything the city has to offer, including museums and more. I can't say enough about how cool it was of Peter to come by the station. A special thank you to his wife GiGi, and my friends Photo Joe and Nick from Rock City Record Company, where Peter will be signing albums and more on April 24th/25th. Spencer Charnas from Ice Nine Kills was also kind enough to come by the station a week ago. He was in town for Astronomicon and swung by to talk about that and lots more. Being a huge horror movie fan, we did talk about that genre. One of their songs, Twisting the KNife is used in Scream 7. We also talked about his dad's 80s band, Grave Diggler. You need to hear about that, then punch them up on the internet. Spencer told me about opening for Metallica, a possible paranormal sighting in Seattle, and more. I always enjoy talking with Spencer!See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Send us Fan MailChristian Dryden and David Andreana from the Ritualists stop by the show to discuss the up coming UK tour, new music that might be coming out in the fall, AI and more. ****Rising from the NYC underground scene of the Lower East Side, The Ritualists first attained international critical acclaim for their debut album, Painted People, released just prior to the pandemic on Out of Line Music. The record, and particularly, its lead single “Ice Flower,” was hailed as a seamless blend of dark beauty & anthemic pop sensibilities. The follow-up effort, Baroque & Bleeding, produced by Brit-Pop icon, Ed Buller(Psychedelic Furs, White Lies, Pulp, Suede), has been described as “pure new romantic psychedelia,” by Duran Duran's Simon Le Bon, and continued the trend of critical adoration, along with regular airplay on SiriusXM. This momentum lead to multiple US tours and multiple collaborations, performing with members of Blondie, Love and Rockets, D Generation and The New York Dolls. The Ritualists now seek to build on their brand of “Gothic Art Rock” (Hollywood Life) with their latest, full-length effort, Too Pure to Cure (Suite484Music) produced by GRAMMY-winner, Mario McNulty (David Bowie, Prince, Willow). The band, which has oftentimes been identified as proudly embracing the more ornate elements of rock-and-roll, further tested such boundaries, as this newest release was honored on multiple "Best of 2025" lists & has been described as "Moody, melodic & undeniably magnetic" by Savoir Faire & "a heartfelt and adventurous offering from a band that seems poised to usher in a new era of new romantic art rock" by Regen MagazineThe Ritualists have announced their first-ever tour of the UK in support of their 3rd album, Too Pure to Cure.Christian Dryden and co. will embark on a short, but compelling run of shows across the UK, with stops in London, Manchester, Reading and Nottingham, from April 17th-22nd. The Gothic Art Rockers (Hollywood Life), will be showcasing material from the new album alongside selections from their critically-acclaimed back catalogue, much of which will be fresh to British Audiences.Their latest, full-length effort, released on all platforms through (Suite484Music) and produced by GRAMMY-winner, Mario McNulty (David Bowie, Prince, Willow), has been honored on multiple "Best of 2025" lists & described as "Moody, melodic and undeniably magnetic" and by Savoir Faire as "a heartfelt and adventurous offering from a band that seems poised to usher in a new era of new romantic art rock" by Regen MagazineTickets & More Info available through www.theritualists.com/event-listWebsite: https://www.theritualists.com/****If you would like to contact the show Dauna@betertopodcast.comFollow us on Social MediaYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCX0ETs2wpOHbCuhUNr0XFTw?view_as=subscriberInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/author_d.m.needom/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/bettertopodcastwithdmneedomSupport the podcast here: https://www.patreon.com/bettertopodcastwithdmneedom©2026 BetteSupport the show
This week Tom & Zeus review the 2025 solo album from former KISS founding member and drummer Peter Criss, called "Peter Criss!" Peter's highly anticipated solo album was released on December 19, 2025. The self-titled album is Peter's 6th solo album It features guests, like John 5, Paul Shaffer, Billy Sheehan, Piggy D and more. The album was produced by Peter Criss and Barry Pointer. All lyrics were written by Peter and the music was composed by Peter and Mike McLaughlin who played lead and rhythm guitar on the album, with the exception of the 3 songs that John 5 played on. The album was filled with a variety of songs and styles. However, it is probably the most rock record ever done by Peter Criss. This is the 9th album by KISS members outside of KISS that SIOL has reviewed. As usual they rank the songs and then rank the album and covers against the eight previous KISS member albums outside of KISS. Make sure you hear BOTH opinions because they are NOT the same! So get ready to jiggle jiggle, jiggle jiggle jiggle! Yeah Peter! Enjoy this special episode from our sister show, "Rock n' Roll Grad School."Martin Popoff has a new book out. If that hasn't got your putting on your coat and heading out to your nearest bookstore, you clearly don't know Martin's work. But, if you don't, the new book is about Kiss in 1976- an important year in the band's history. "Kiss 76" is available right now from Motor Books. The book isn't your typical "coffee table" book. It's a feast for your senses. Martin takes readers on a journey through time to track not only the band during the iconic year, but also a whole lot of everything else that made 50 years ago one for the ages. Our chat with Martin is always filled with interesting information for diehard and casual music fans alike. It's like being seated at a great dinner party. You may ask, "Does the world really need another KISS book?" The answer is unequivocally, "Yes, it needed this one."With photos rarely seen anywhere else and chock full of great facts, you won't be disappointed. Luke and Heidi have been talking about it for weeks. To get a copy for yourself, visit your local bookstore or order one wherever you buy your books.

Today on the show I speak with author/drummer/musician - Joey Cassata.Joey Cassata is an American based author/drummer/musician who gained notoriety as a player in the early 2000's with his Rock band 'ZO2', the band even becoming the subject of a television series called 'Z-Rock' and exposed him to a large audience worldwide. From there, he continued to climb the ladder of success and became a member of the 'Trans Siberian Orchestra' for 13 years, recorded drums on the late/great Ace Frehley's record '10000 Volts', has an amazing KISS tribute band called 'The Handsome Devils' and was most recently even announced as the new drummer for the latest 'Twisted Sister' tour. Additionally, Joey has a 'KISS' related podcast (Podcast Rock City Live), had an amazing career as an author with his books 'Kiss Drummers', 'The Order Of The Rose' and 'Wrestling With Joeylicious' - to name just a few... Joey and I had a really positive conversation where we talk about dreaming big, inspiration, music careers, networking, music education, eating cannolis with Peter Criss and of course and KISS. So much happened to KISS between the years 1979 and 1981. Dynasty in 79, Unmasked in 80 and Music from the Elder and Killers in 81. Then there is lineup changes. Peter Criss is out Eric Carr is in. Ace Frehley is getting ready to leave. You could right a paper on the music changes, and even the way the band looked went through a huge change. This could be the most controversial era for the band. Fans started to think the band left the KISS ARMY behind. Let's look at this era and talk about the music the look and the attitude of the era.

Here's what's on our minds this time: Peter Criss responds publicly to Gene Simmons over recent “Beth” songwriting comments, calling Gene's statements ridiculous and uncalled for. Rikki Rockett says Poison's 2026 tour plans were scrapped after Bret Michaels allegedly pushed for a larger share of the money. Rockett also confirms he'll perform Poison's Look What The Cat Dragged In in full with The Rockett Mafia. John Corabi explains how he got the “Crabby” nickname and says it isn't what most people assume. A posthumous John Sykes EP is coming, set for release through Golden Robot Records (editor note - recorded before Sykes family statment). Stephen Pearcy on his refusal to use backing tracks (and a wild story from Aaron on that subject). Angel announces a farewell tour planned for 2026–2027. The official Judas Priest documentary The Ballad Of Judas Priest is set to premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival. Metallica says negotiations are about 90% complete for a 2027 Las Vegas Sphere residency. An actor has reportedly been chosen to play Ozzy Osbourne in the upcoming biopic. Black Label Society's next album Engines Of Demolition will include a track described as “Ozzy's song.” Mick Sweda says he wanted his share of the BulletBoys name back before agreeing to the latest reunion. MUSICThe three surviving founding members of KISS -- Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley and Peter Criss -- paid a visit to The White House on Saturday where President Trump recognized them as one of this year's five recipients of the Kennedy Center Honors, which is presented to those in the performing arts for their lifetime of contributions to American culture. Guitarist Ace Frehley, who died in October following a fall at his New Jersey home, was represented by his daughter Monique. https://youtu.be/MoEAlhUTVnEFollowing the ceremony in the Oval Office, the State Department hosted a dinner for the honorees, which also included actors Sylvester Stallone and Michael Crawford, country singer George Strait, and R&B singer Gloria Gaynor. Taking the podium there, the President spoke in more detail about each recipient. With a chair left empty in memory of Ace Frehley, KISS were honored by Garth Brooks, who, upon taking the stage said, “I see some faces of confusion. Here they are:1. Non-stop working and challenging yourself. Quote, "I work 12-, 14-hour days on sets and keep up with everyone. I don't need cue cards . . . I learn pages after pages and I have a lot of energy . . . "I keep working, and I keep pushing myself to be better . . . because I love what I do . . . it keeps me young." 2. Spending time with family, and having active friends. Quote, "I have grandchildren and my own children, some of whom are in their early 40s. I'm part of their social circle.
