9th of November 1983. Bayan Lepas International Airport, Penang, MalaysiaThere was the usual bustle of activity inside and outside the airport, with a seemingly innumerable fleet of taxis dropping people off and picking up fares. The relentless cluster of passengers travelling to and from domestic and international flights flooded the airport lounges and check-in counters.Amongst all of the airport activity, two young Australian men aged in their mid-20's alighted from one of the many taxis and entered the airport. One man was carrying a maroon suitcase; he was named Kevin Barlow, and his acquaintance was Brian Chambers.Barlow approached the check in desk, as Chambers paid the taxi fare, passed through the luggage scanning area, and joined him there. Barlow was sweating and shaking profusely, which drew unwanted attention to him and Chambers. As a consequence, the two were detained and searched by local authorities, where they discovered the maroon suitcase contained 141.9g of pure heroin. How did these two men end up in this dire situation, almost 5000km from their homes in Perth, Australia? They arrived in around an hour, parked out the front of the old bank building and wandered inside.David saw the computer and then he saw John Bunting, who he knew. 'This is the computer,’ Bunting said, and a second later, his offsider Wagner had David by the throat, and they handcuffed the terrified young man. They led him into an area that had once been a bank manager’s office, and proceeded to make him handover his wallet, PIN, and recite a number of phrases and words into a recording device.David, shaking like a leaf, turned to his stepbrother and said ‘Jamie, am I going to go home?’‘Yes,’ Jamie said. ‘Do you promise?’ David asked again. ‘I promise,' Jamie said. Then Bunting put on Live’s Throwing Copper album, and a maniacal grin spread across Wagner’s face. On 25 April 1978, Bill and Valda Thomas were mushrooming in remote bushland alongside Swamp Road near the South Australian town of Truro, when they stumbled upon what they thought was the bone from the leg of a cow. When they couldn't shake the image from their minds, they returned to the area two days later for another look. Upon closer inspection, they saw that the bone had a shoe attached; inside the shoe was human skin and painted toenails...Join Shaun and Chloe as they discuss this slow-burning case about a series of missing women who would remain unconnected until the discovery of several sets of human remains in remote bushland near Truro in 1979. The disappearances were becoming more frequent, until they suddenly stopped.
