In May 1999, police made a horrific discovery inside an old, disused bank vault in Snowtown, South Australia, six plastic barrels filled with human remains. It was the beginning of one of Australia's most disturbing and infamous serial murder cases. But the story of the Snowtown murders, also known as the “bodies in the barrels” case, didn't start there. It began years earlier, with a man named John Bunting, a self-appointed vigilante who, alongside a network of accomplices, orchestrated a chilling campaign of torture, murder, and manipulation.Over the course of seven years, at least 12 people were killed, many of them known to the perpetrators, some even considered friends or family. The victims were often targeted under the guise of “cleansing” society, but beneath that rhetoric lay a web of greed, control, and cruelty. In this Crime at Bedtime episode, we explore the true story behind the Snowtown killings, from the twisted psychology of the killers to the investigation that finally brought them to justice. The One Minute Remaining LIVE show in Melbourne tix on sale NOWBecome a Patreon or Apple + subscriber now for ealry and ad free access from as little as $1.69 a week. In this episode of Crime Time, Inc., we delve into the harrowing details of the Snowtown Murders, also known as the Bodies in the Barrels Murders. This case, which spanned several years and involved a series of brutal killings, shook Australia to its core. Central to the case was John Bunting, a seemingly ordinary man with a dark fascination for death, who manipulated and recruited vulnerable individuals into his twisted circle, including Robert Wagner, Mark Hayden, and James Vlasakis. The discovery of bodies stored in barrels within an old bank vault in Snowtown brought the chilling extent of their crimes to light, leading to the eventual conviction of the perpetrators. Part 1 of the case of the Snowtown Murders, also known as the Bodies in Barrels Murders, delves into some of the darkest corners of the human psyche, where the lines between victim and perpetrator become terrifyingly blurred. John Bunting coerced vulnerable individuals to serve as accomplices in some of the most heinous crimes imaginable. Being taken by his father to the British Museum and seeing the colossal human-headed winged bulls, which once guarded an entrance to the citadel of the Assyrian king Sargon II (721-705 BC) captured his creative imagination. John Bunting was the ringleader of a gang who takes it upon themselves to rid Australia of pedofiles and homosexuals. They were beaten, tortured and strangled to death. While the first few victims were buried, he found a new way of disposing of their bodies- placing them inside large plastic barrels filled with acid. With 11 total victims, John Bunting is known as Australia's WORST serial killer. https://linktr.ee/KillerStoriessources:Crime Investigation Australia - Murders: Bodies in the Barrels Murders https://murderpedia.org/male.B/b/bunting-john-justin.htmhttps://medium.com/crimebeat/bodies-in-the-barrels-the-snowtown-murders-e8bc0571ccf4https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snowtown_murdershttps://victimsofhomicide.fandom.com/wiki/Clinton_Trezisehttps://victimsofhomicine.fandom.com/wiki/Michelle_Gardinerhttps://victimsofhomicine.fandom.com/wiki/Ray_Davieshttps://victimsofhomicine.fandom.com/wiki/Vanessa_Lanehttps://victimsofhomicine.fandom.com/wiki/Troy_Youdehttps://victimsofhomicine.fandom.com/wiki/Gavin_Porterhttps://victimsofhomicine.fandom.com/wiki/Frederick_Brookshttps://victimsofhomicine.fandom.com/wiki/Thomas_Trevilyanhttps://victimsofhomicine.fandom.com/wiki/Gary_O'Dwyerhttps://victimsofhomicine.fandom.com/wiki/Elizabeth_Haydonhttps://victimsofhomicine.fandom.com/wiki/David_Johnson

John Bunting was an angry man who hated many people based on their race or lifestyle. Hating them wasn't enough, he needed to rid the world of them, but instead of taking this misguided journey on his own, he indoctrinated others to believe his hate was justified and that those people deserved to die.
