A dig was completed, but some are saying they didn't dig far enough. On the 26th of January 1966, three young siblings known as the Beaumont children, caught the bus to Glenelg Beach in Adelaide. They told their mother they'd be back by noon - but the children never returned. 22 years later, detective Bill Hayes took on the case, and to this day, he's still trying to solve the case of the missing Beaumont children. This week James and Sky discuss the hard problem of consciousness and investigate the tragic disappearance of the Beaumont children, one of Australia's oldest unsolved mysteries.On the morning of January 26th, 1966, the Beaumont children asked their mother to visit Glenelg Beach. As it was too hot to walk, they took a five-minute bus ride from their home to the beach. Their mother became worried when the siblings did not return on either the 12:00 or 2:00 pm buses, and when their father returned home early from his trip around 3:00 pm, he immediately drove to the crowded beach. Unable to locate the children, he returned and together both parents searched the streets and visited friends' houses. In 1969 Derek Percy was arrested for the brutal killing of 12 year old Yvonne Tuohy.  While he was held responsible for that crime, a string of unsolved heinous child murders in the 60s bear chilling resemblance to that violent crime that put him behind bars.  But Derek Percy never confessed to, nor was he convicted of the crimes he's strongly suspected of having committed. He died in custody in 2013 as Victoria's longest serving prisoner, taking to the grave all his secrets. Depriving families of the closure they'd spent decades longing for.  Alan Whitaker, our guest today, spent 4 years researching Percy trying to fill in the blanks that Derek never would.
