We don't break the rules to cheat; we break them to improve. When conventional wisdom grows stale and unhelpful, it's the contrarians who lead the way to make investing, business, and life better. And the same is true in sports. Punting? Bunting? It's time we take a look, with the help of sports journalist, Kimball Crossley, at some sports rules that need breaking. In this week's episode of The Tax Factor, Roger Holman and Neil Insull look at the quiet storm that is April's new tax landscape - changes may have been light in the Spring Statement, but the devil, as ever, is in the (Autumn Budget) detail. In Guernsey, the government has done the unthinkable: opened a tax drop-in centre where people can actually talk to someone. A bold move that feels very different from HMRC’s current approach. There is the curious case of Timothy Bunting v HMRC, where an initially successful taxpayer ended up losing not only the argument, but also his cash and his relief and finally a timely nudge: It’s a good time to review your ISA’s.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The Arctic is still wintry when male Snow Buntings return to nesting areas in April. There's a big benefit to arriving early enough to claim a prime nest cavity in a rock face or under boulders, where it will be safer from predators. Nesting in chilly rock cavities means extra care must be taken to keep eggs and nestlings warm. That's why, unlike many other bird species, female Snow Buntings never come off the nest. The males bring them food, giving them more continuous time on the eggs.More info and transcript at BirdNote.org. Want more BirdNote? Subscribe to our weekly newsletter. Hour 2 with Joe Starkey: Ray Fittipaldo would bet on Justin Fields returning on a two-year deal around $30-35 million. Is there a team in the NFL that would guarantee Justin Fields pull position in camp? John Kosko thinks Jaxson Dart is a good option in the draft and is his QB2 this year. John Glennon of the Nashville Post thinks Tommy Novak is a skilled player, but you can't ask much of him. He's an offensive-minded player but not very physical and doesn't kill any penalties.

In this episode of Crime Time, Inc., we delve into the harrowing details of the Snowtown Murders, also known as the Bodies in the Barrels Murders. This case, which spanned several years and involved a series of brutal killings, shook Australia to its core. Central to the case was John Bunting, a seemingly ordinary man with a dark fascination for death, who manipulated and recruited vulnerable individuals into his twisted circle, including Robert Wagner, Mark Hayden, and James Vlasakis. With a deep-seated hatred for those he deemed as deviants, Bunting targeted and killed 12 victims, using torture, deceit, and financial exploitation. The discovery of bodies stored in barrels within an old bank vault in Snowtown brought the chilling extent of their crimes to light, leading to the eventual conviction of the perpetrators. Throughout the episode, we explore the complex relationships and psychological manipulation at play, the police investigation that led to the case's unraveling, and the broad societal implications of the murders. Join us as we unravel the intricacies of one of Australia's most infamous criminal cases, shedding light on the dark nature of human behavior and the importance of vigilance and justice in society.00:00 Introduction to the Snowtown Murders00:42 John Bunting: The Mastermind01:40 The Accomplices and Their Vulnerabilities02:19 The Victims and Their Horrific Fates03:58 The Brutal Methods and Disposal of Bodies05:17 The Investigation Breakthrough05:34 The Grim Discovery in Snowtown06:55 The Media Frenzy and Trials12:28 The Lasting Impact and Lessons Hosted on Acast.
