The Charge of the Light Brigade was a military action undertaken by British light cavalry against Russian forces during the Battle of Balaclava in the Crimean War, resulting in many casualties to the cavalry. On 25 October 1854, the Light Brigade, led by Lord Cardigan, mounted a frontal assault against a Russian artillery battery which was well-prepared with excellent fields of defensive fire. The charge was the result of a misunderstood order from the commander-in-chief, Lord Raglan, who had intended the Light Brigade to attack a different objective for which light cavalry was better suited, to prevent the Russians from removing captured guns from overrun Turkish positions. The Light Brigade made its charge under withering direct fire and reached its target, scattering some of the gunners, but was forced to retreat immediately.

Alfred Tennyson's ‘The Charge of the Light Brigade' was first published on 9th December, 1854, in The Examiner. Tennyson had penned the poem shortly after reading a dramatic account in The Times of the disastrous charge, which occurred during the Battle of Balaclava in the Crimean War.  Its rhythmic cadence, mimicking the galloping charge, made it both poignant and memorable, and the poem was an instant hit with the public - though critics were sniffy about the poet's rhyming of ‘blunder' and ‘hundred'... À Maurice, le label pour promouvoir la qualité des produits de l'île, créé il y a une dizaine d'années, s'étend désormais au secteur du tourisme. Dans l'hôtellerie, le groupe Attitude est encore le seul à avoir obtenu ce label Made in Moris, ce qui lui permet de valoriser son implication dans la promotion de l'industrie locale. Sur le littoral de Balaclava au nord de Maurice, l'hôtel Ravenala Attitude a voulu créer une atmosphère authentiquement mauricienne. Dans le décor de sable blanc et de cocotiers, deux échoppes rappellent les boutiques de coin de rue de l'île. Appelées Taba-J en référence aux petits commerces typiques ici, ces kiosques offrent une gamme de produits locaux, des galettes appelées farata aux plats rapides épicés.Jean-Michel Pitot, fondateur de la chaîne, a, en effet, souhaité revisiter le modèle mauricien : « Les hôtels de Maurice mettaient beaucoup plus en avant une belle hôtellerie, ce qui n'était pas tout à fait mauricien. Certes, on faisait plaisir aux clients en donnant du caviar, du champagne et autres, j'exagère un petit peu, mais on oubliait que l'on était à Maurice. »En revenant à ses racines, le groupe a inauguré en 2013 l'hôtel Zilwa Attitude, qui résonne profondément avec la culture mauricienne. Zilwa est le mot créole pour insulaire. Et Jean-Michel Pitot de rappeler : « On savait ce que l'on voulait offrir aux clients. On voulait leur faire ressentir ce côté mauricien. Les hôtels ont donc été décorés, construits et tout a été fait pour que le client découvre cette île Maurice. » Dans le même temps, le groupe Attitude a opté pour des pratiques écologiques, et privilégié les entrepreneurs locaux, deux décisions fortes.Des fournisseurs greenOlivier Bardin dirige Topo Sorbe, une entreprise familiale de la capitale qui fabrique des sucettes glacées aux fruits locaux et aux saveurs piquantes. Contre toute attente, c'est le groupe Attitude qui a contacté sa petite entreprise pour devenir son fournisseur, et non l'inverse. « C'était un projet assez complexe pour nous, on devait voir plus grand », explique Oliver Bardin. Et d'ajouter : « Attitude travaille également avec des fournisseurs green, ce qui veut dire pas de plastique, alors il a fallu travailler sur l'emballage en carton, cela a pris pas mal de temps, presque deux ans. »Le groupe hôtelier Attitude est le premier du secteur à obtenir le label Made in Moris, un réseau valorisant les produits locaux selon des critères stricts. La chaîne s'apprête à clôturer l'année financière 2023/2024 avec un taux d'occupation de 85%. Les doutes exprimés au début dans le secteur quant à la viabilité du modèle, se sont dissipés.Selon Vincent Desvaux de Marigny, PDG du groupe, la viabilité commerciale est désormais acquise : « Nous ne sommes pas cotés en bourse, mais on a la capacité de mesurer nos performances financières, et on a réalisé qu'Attitude se situait aujourd'hui dans le haut du panier en termes de rentabilité, c'est-à-dire en termes de profit après impôt, par rapport au chiffre d'affaires. » La chaîne hôtelière veut aller plus loin et vise la certification « B Corp ».
