One week before the near-death hike that permanently scarred Micah Smith's children, police contacted Micah Smith alongside a roadway in a lifted white GMC with no plates, no registration, no insurance, and bald tires in cold rainy weather. The encounter escalates quickly as Micah Smith resists basic identification, and officers discover there are multiple weapons inside the vehicle. Smith reveals his obsession with hiking and going “to the top of the mountain” despite warnings about snow and conditions and reveals his marriage is falling apart. Did we just learn what might have motivated his reckless hike with his children? Let's walk through the traffic stop, the bizarre behavior and the RED FLAGS that screamed of minimization, bravado, grievance, control, and a fixation on the mountains just days before his children ended up in the hospital and he ended up in jail.#MicahSmith #CottonwoodHeights #SaltLakeCounty #Utah #WasatchMountains #LonePeak #BigCottonwoodCanyon #BroadsForkTrail #TrafficStop #BodyCam #OfficerSafety #ProbableCause #ChildEndangerment #TrueCrime #ProfilingEvil #MappingEvil #GIS #Esri #CourtTVEmail your questions to: ProfilingEvil@gmail.com========================================

In the wake of the tragic killing of Rob and Michele Reiner, new media reports are adding detail to how their son, Nick Reiner, behaved after the murders, what investigators allege about his post-crime choices, and how those behaviors intersect with claims of schizophrenia and substance history. Let's explore Reiner's documented actions like checking into a hotel, avoiding immediate contact with police, and how these decisions, when combined with established legal observations may suggest awareness and a decision to evade responsibility. What's the broader context of mental health and addiction and what are media outlets reporting on those issues. Finally, how do they, or how do they not explain the choice to commit a double homicide.#RobReiner #MicheleSingerReiner #NickReiner #ReinerFamily #Brentwood #LAPD #LACountyDA #MedicalExaminer #LosAngeles #TrueCrime #ProfilingEvil #murder #homicide #MultipleSharpForceInjuries #HotelCheckin #AvoidingPolice #SchizophreniaTreatment #DrugAddictionHistory #IntentAndAwareness #FlightFromScene #EvidenceConcealment #911 #CriminalResponsibility========================================Email your questions to: ProfilingEvil@gmail.com========================================

In 1998, 50-year-old nurse and hospital administrator Sherry Crandell was raped and murdered inside her office at Prince George's Hospital Center — a place she should have been safe. Despite DNA, fingerprints, and even an eyewitness, the case stalled for almost 30 years. In this episode, I sit down with investigative journalist Paul Wagner, host of American Nightmares: Murder in a Safe Place, to break down the crime that shook Cheverly, Maryland. We explore the original investigation, the controversial DNA dragnet inside the hospital, and the relentless work of a retired detective who refused to let this case die. Most importantly, we look at how investigative genetic genealogy finally identified Edward Barry Watts — also known as Baari Shabazz — as the man who murdered Sherry Crandell in 2025. Paul's reporting played a major role in keeping attention on this cold case, and today we talk about what this long-awaited breakthrough means for Sherry's family and for the future of genetic genealogy in solving violent crimes. If you follow cold cases, genealogy-based investigations, or behind-the-scenes reporting from the people who never quit, this conversation will take you deeper than the headlines ever did.#ProfilingEvil #MurderInASafePlace #AmericanNightmares #SherryCrandell #PrinceGeorgesHospital #CheverlyMaryland #ColdCase #GeneticGenealogy #BaariShabazz #EdwardWatts #BernieNelson #FBI #HospitalMurder #VictimJustice #TrueCrimePodcast #InvestigativeJournalism #PodcastInterview=======================================Email your questions to: ProfilingEvil@gmail.com========================================LOOKING FOR WAYS TO SUPPORT PROFILING EVIL?
In 1995, Vickie Barton was found dead by her husband, Springboro Police Lieutenant Jim Barton, after what appeared to be a violent home invasion. Over the next 11 years, the case took a series of unexpected turns, including unreliable witnesses, shifting testimonies, the conviction of Jim Barton, and the eventual overturning of that conviction. This episode originally aired on October 28, 2019. On July 6, 2019, 25-year-old Chance Englebert spent the day golfing with family in Gering, Nebraska. He later left with his wife, Baylee, and their infant son to stop by Baylee's grandparents' house. According to Baylee, it was in her grandparents' driveway around 7:30 p.m. that Chance got out of the car and walked away. He was captured on surveillance video walking in Terrytown and was never seen again. On October 10, 2025, more than six years after Chance Englebert disappeared, his remains were discovered below a steep cliff in a remote area of Scotts Bluff National Monument. The location was approximately three to five miles from where he was last seen on surveillance video in Terrytown, though some route-based estimates of the distance he would have traveled on foot place it closer to eight miles. Authorities say evidence at the scene was consistent with a fall of up to several hundred feet, and multiple forensic specialists concluded his death was accidental, caused by blunt force trauma from a rapid deceleration event. Investigators reported no evidence of foul play. Chance's family, while accepting that a fall likely caused his death, continues to have questions about how he reached that location given the conditions and timeline. If you have any information related to the disappearance or death of Chance Englebert, please contact the Gering Police Department at (308) 436-5089.If you have a missing loved one that you would like to have featured on the show, please fill out our case submission form.Follow The Vanished on social media at:FacebookInstagramPatreonSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Episode 116 Robert Gautsche Robert Gautsche was a family man and successful corporate manager who had a lot going for him, but the pressures of his job caused him to spiral. He fell into addiction which cost him his career, marriage, and health. He was diagnosed with Wernicke-Korsakoff Syndrome (WKS); a debilitating disease that greatly affected his memory, and his prognosis was not good. Robert's brother Brad, who was Robert's power of attorney, placed Robert into the care of an assisted living facility in Castle Rock, CO with the understanding that his brother would be safe and could not slip away. But on February 4th, 2021, Robert managed to flee from the facility. Searches were quickly conducted, but there was no sign of 58 year old Robert who has walked away with just the clothes on his back. There were possible sightings of Robert, but none of them led to him being found, and he remains missing today. In this episode, we are joined by Robert's brother Brad who discusses the frustration and long lasting effects he has suffered after not being able to find his brother. We are also joined by Detective Kristen Tinsley of the Douglas County Sheriff's dept who discusses the investigation into Robert's disappearance. Robert Gautsche is believed to have been last seen walking in the area of 5900 Promenade Parkway in Castle Rock. He was wearing a brown leather jacket, black jeans and light-colored slipper-style shoes. Robert is a White male standing 6ft tall, and weighing 160 pounds. He has Brown hair and eyes. A DNA profile is a unique genetic fingerprint derived from an individual's DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid). DNA is the fundamental genetic material found in the cells of all living organisms, and it carries the instructions that determine our physical characteristics and biological traits.A DNA profile is created by analyzing specific regions of an individual's DNA known as short tandem repeats (STRs) or single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). These regions exhibit variations between individuals, making them useful for identification purposes. DNA profiling involves extracting DNA from a biological sample, such as blood, saliva, hair, or semen, and then amplifying and analyzing the specific DNA regions of interest.Law enforcement agencies use DNA profiling in several ways:Criminal Investigations: When biological evidence is found at a crime scene, such as bloodstains or hair, DNA profiling can be performed to create a DNA profile from the sample. This profile can then be compared to profiles in DNA databases or against known suspects to identify or exclude potential perpetrators.Missing Persons and Unidentified Remains: DNA profiling plays a crucial role in identifying missing persons and unidentified remains. By comparing DNA profiles from unidentified remains to profiles of missing individuals or their relatives, law enforcement can establish familial relationships or make direct identifications.Cold Case Investigations: In cold cases, where the investigation has gone unresolved for an extended period, DNA profiling can be used to reexamine evidence and potentially link it to a known individual or identify new suspects.Forensic Intelligence: DNA profiles obtained from crime scenes can be stored in DNA databases, such as CODIS (Combined DNA Index System), which allows law enforcement agencies to compare profiles from different cases. This can help link previously unrelated crimes and provide leads for investigations. In this episode, we take a look at the new claims by Bryan Kohberger's legal team that 3 other unknown male DNA profiles were found at the crime scene and what it might mean moving forward.(commercial at 8:30)to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:Bryan Kohberger claims DNA from three other men found at scene of Idaho murders | The IndependentBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-moscow-murders-and-more--5852883/support.

It starts small. A stolen bottle of liquor. A missing wallet. A petty theft in the night. But for some individuals, crime isn't a one-off, it's a sliding scale, a dark spiral downward. Let's examine how Antonio Brown, an alcoholic, homeless man moved from petty theft to what would become a brutal homicide. This isn't about sensational headlines. It's about the dangerous dynamics of escalation — when opportunity, desperation, and violence collide. An in-depth look at the tragic 2022 death of 77-year-old Eleanor Bowles at the hands of 23-year-old Antonio Brown — tracing a path from alleged minor thefts to a violent car theft-turned-homicide, exploring psychological escalation, criminal history, and what may have tipped this suspect over the edge. #AntonioBrown #EleanorBowles #AtlantaPD #RobberyToMurder #CriminalEscalation #ProfilingEvil #TripleMurder #Odessa #Texas #triplehomicide #15yroldEmail your questions to: ProfilingEvil@gmail.com========================================

When a defense team orders a psychological evaluation just weeks before trial, it's never accidental and it's never meaningless. In this episode of Profiling Evil, we take a careful, plain-spoken look at the developing case of Sarah Grace Patrick, charged in Carroll County, Georgia, with the murders of her mother, Kristen Brock, and her stepfather, James Brock. As the case moves closer to trial, new questions are emerging about mental health, legal strategy, and whether a jury could be asked to consider an insanity-related defense under Georgia law. The episode talks about the mental health evaluation, what it means and what it does not mean. Under Georgia's narrow insanity standard, mental illness alone is not enough. So why pursue an evaluation now? Is this about an insanity defense, a guilty-but-mentally-ill verdict, mitigation, or simply preparing for the weight of the evidence the state may present? If you want to understand the strategy, the risks, and the reality behind the headlines, this is a conversation worth having.#SarahGracePatrick #KristenBrock #JamesBrock #CarrollCountyGA #CarrollCounty #SuperiorCourt #GeorgiaLaw #GeorgiaCourts #InsanityDefense #MentalHealthDefense #MurderTrial #TrueCrime #TrueCrimeCommunity #TrueCrimeAnalysis #CriminalPsychology #ProfilingEvil #CourtTV #TrueCrimeYouTube #TrueCrimePodcast========================================Email your questions to: ProfilingEvil@gmail.com========================================

Missing Melodee Buzzard, & Ashlee Buzzard's Silence | Profiling EvilNine-year-old Melodee Buzzard vanished somewhere along the Utah-Colorado border after a strange cross-country trip with her mother, Ashlee Buzzard—a journey involving wigs, license-plate swaps, and days of evasive travel through Nevada, Utah, Colorado, and Nebraska. Ashlee Buzzard returned the rental car alone… and has refused to say where Melodee Buzzard is.In this Profiling Evil breakdown, Mike King teams up with former Los Angeles prosecutor and criminal-defense attorney Joshua Ritter—host of Courtroom Confidential and The Sidebar—to examine the legal side of this heartbreaking case. Together, they discuss what investigators need before charging a parent, how digital forensics will guide this search, how the FBI's involvement shifts the investigation, and what mental-health claims do (and do not) change in a missing-child case. Shirley Ann Duguay was from Canada and a 32-year-old mother of five. In Part 1 of this series, we explored Troy Galloway's life and the events surrounding his January 13, 2016, disappearance from Sonora, California. We walked through the confusion of those early days, eyewitness accounts of a disturbance near Crystal Falls Lake, and the later phone data that appeared to place Troy's phone in that same area. Those elements combined to form the backbone of the investigation and ultimately led to the extensive search of the lake, an effort that, despite its scale, uncovered no trace of Troy.In Part 2, we shifted our focus to Troy's relationships and the people who knew him best after his move to Sonora. We heard from the Brainstormers, the friends and loved ones who traveled to Sonora themselves, spoke with neighbors, and worked to piece together what Troy's life looked like in the months before he vanished. This week, in Part 3, we are going to take a deeper look at the other lines of investigation that have been pursued over the past decade, where the case stands today, and the impact that ten years of searching without answers has had on everyone who loves Troy.If you have any information about the disappearance of Troy Galloway, please contact the Tuolumne Sheriff's Office at (209) 533-5855.If you have a missing loved one that you would like to have featured on the show, please fill out our case submission form.Follow The Vanished on social media at:FacebookInstagramPatreonSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
This Rob Reiner story is one of those stories that makes you stop and really think about what's happening inside families when the doors are closed and the holidays are supposed to bring everyone together. In this review, we're also going to acknowledge the tragedy at Bondi Beach, because these events didn't happen in isolation — they reflect a broader pattern of violence and emotional fracture surfacing during moments that are meant to be about peace and connection. The Rob Reiner case forces a hard conversation about how stress, long-standing addiction issues, and unresolved family conflict can quietly build beneath the surface, even in families that love each other deeply. Let's walk through what's known so far, what police have said, and why these tragedies fit a pattern we see far too often when emotional pressure peaks and warning signs go unaddressed.#RobReiner #MicheleReiner #NickReiner #BondiBeach #Australia #Sydney #JewishCommunity #StarOfDavid #AntisemitismAwareness #HolidaySafety #HolidayStress #FamilyViolence #DomesticViolence #DV #DomesticRisk #FamilyCrisis #AddictionAwareness #MentalHealth #LAPD #LosAngeles #Brentwood #TrueCrime #ProfilingEvil #HolidayDV #ViolencePrevention #FamilyTragedy #PersonOfInterestEmail your questions to: ProfilingEvil@gmail.com========================================

Chad Daybell says he's “pausing” his Letters from Chad series so his appeals can move forward. In Letter #10, Chad Daybell blames the media, the prosecution, his own lawyer, and the justice system—but never himself. Let's tear this letter apart line by line, showing how it's really about damage control for Chad Daybell, narrative manipulation, and a failed marketing campaign from death row. We'll talk about his unmentioned fourth near-death experience, his refusal to explain how he justified an affair with Lori Vallow while Tammy Daybell was alive, and how premortal-life fantasies helped him bend moral laws and, ultimately, justify murder. Through it all, we keep the focus where it belongs: on JJ Vallow, Tylee Ryan, Tammy Daybell, Charles Vallow, and the surviving family members like Brandon Boudreaux and Colby Ryan, who are still living with the consequences of Chad Daybell's and Lori's choices.#ChadDaybell #LoriVallow #LoriDaybell #TammyDaybell #JJVallow #TyleeRyan #CharlesVallow #BrandonBoudreaux #ColbyRyan #AlexCox #DaybellLetters #Letter10 #IdahoMurders #ArizonaCrime #CultCrime #DoomsdayCult #TrueCrime #ProfilingEvilEmail your questions to: ProfilingEvil@gmail.com========================================

Last week, we walked through the timeline of Troy Galloway's disappearance and the events that unfolded in the days leading up to January 13, 2016. We learned how, after years of building a life and a steady support network in Santa Cruz, California, Troy moved to Sonora with his wife, placing hours of distance between himself and the people who had always been his safety net. Troy was a devoted father to his young son, but the distance made it difficult to maintain that same level of involvement in his life after the move.On January 15, 2016, Troy's mother, Nancy, received a message from his wife telling her that Troy had disappeared two days earlier. Nancy was confused and alarmed by what she was hearing. His wife said Troy had run out of the house, underdressed for the cold, and never returned. After that exchange, Troy was finally reported missing, but a miscommunication between local agencies delayed getting the case to the appropriate investigators and beginning the search for Troy.Over time, pieces of information slowly came together. Neighbors recalled hearing a disturbance at Crystal Falls Lake on the night Troy vanished. Years later, advances in technology enabled investigators to interpret Troy's phone data with greater clarity, suggesting that his phone had been near the lake around the time he disappeared. For a long time, this became the guiding theory: that Troy had somehow ended up in the water. That idea guided the investigation, culminating in an extensive, highly coordinated search effort. Crystal Falls Lake was drained, scanned, and combed through by forensic specialists, dogs, and sonar teams. But when the search turned up no trace of Troy or his belongings, the explanation that had once seemed most likely suddenly stood on shaky ground. If Troy wasn't in the lake, then the story everyone had been leaning on for years no longer fit, and the investigation was forced back to its earliest questions. This week, we're going to dig deeper into what Troy's loved ones learned about his time in Sonora, what they began to uncover about the dynamics within his marriage, and the questions that still haunt Troy's family as they enter the tenth year of searching for answers. If you have any information about the disappearance of Troy Galloway, please contact the Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office at (209) 533-5855.If you have a missing loved one that you would like to have featured on the show, please fill out our case submission form.Follow The Vanished on social media at:FacebookInstagramPatreonSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Over the course of Syria's fourteen-year civil war, around one million people went missing, presumably killed. Among them was the father of my guest today, Maryam Kamalmaz. Maryam's father was an American psychotherapist who traveled to Syria on a humanitarian mission when he was detained and disappeared by the Assad regime. She campaigned for his release, but eventually learned that he had died in detention. Today, Maryam Kamalmaz is the Director for Missing Persons Affairs at the Syria Emergency Task Force, an advocacy group based in Washington, DC, where she is supporting international efforts to identify the roughly one million people who went missing during Syria's civil war. We begin by discussing the case of her father before having a broader conversation about why finding the missing—and their remains—is so important for Syria's democratic transition following the fall of the Assad regime. This is a powerful conversation, recorded live at the Halifax International Security Forum in late November.

Episode 115 Jason Landry On December 12, 2020, Twenty one year old college student Jason Landry embarked on a 165 mile road trip from San Marcos, Texas to see his family for the holidays in Missouri City, Texas. He would never make it home. His crashed car was discovered just after midnight in Luling, Texas; an oil and ranching community that Jason was not familiar with. There was no sign of Jason. The accident seemed to be a single car accident that left Jason's car backed into a ditch. Several items of Jason's were discarded, including what appeared to be the clothes he was wearing. Even his pet fish who Jason had taken care to put into a water and take with him, was left behind on the cold night. Jason's father Kent arrived on the scene to try and figure out what had happened to his son, and he was disappointed and upset to find that no real search or investigation of what happened to Jason was happening. Soon, extensive searches would be launched, but no sign of Jason was ever found, and five years later, Jason's family is praying for answers. In this episode, Kent Landry discusses his son's puzzling case, and the massive effort that he and many other have put forward to try and find Jason. Jason Landry is described as White, standing 6ft1, and weighing about 170 pounds. He has Brown hair and eyes. There is a $20,000 reward being offered in this case. A Utah father, Micah Smith, took his three young children on what prosecutors now call a “not well planned,” “ill-prepared,” and “extremely dangerous” hike into Big Cottonwood Canyon. Hours later, two children are unconscious from hypothermia, one appears dead when rescuers arrive, and the story Micah Smith tells doesn't match what investigators later uncover. According to the indictment, Micah Smith pushed toward the top of Broads Fork despite rain, fog, wind, and kids who repeatedly begged to go home, and he taught his 8-year-old daughter CPR because he knew help was too far away. Let's examine the route, the behavior, the marital strains, the mental-health indicators, the previous suicide-related police encounter, and the troubling allegations prosecutors are laying out against Micah Smith.#MicahSmith #BigCottonwoodCanyon #BroadsForkTrail #SaltLakeCounty #UtahCrime #ChildTorture #ChildAbuse #TrueCrime #ProfilingEvil #MappingEvil #GIS #Esri #CourtTV #WasatchMountains #SearchAndRescue #Parenting #MentalHealth #DomesticStrain The Hike That Terrorized Micah Smith's Children | Profiling Evil=======================================Email your questions to: ProfilingEvil@gmail.com========================================LOOKING FOR WAYS TO SUPPORT PROFILING EVIL?

January 13, 2016, was a chilly winter day in Sonora, California. That day, thirty-four-year-old Troy Galloway was reportedly at home with his wife and young daughter when the couple had a disagreement. According to his wife, Troy ran out of the house and into the cold, snowy yard wearing only a t-shirt, jeans, and shoes. Troy never returned, and no one has seen or heard from him since. A couple of days later, Troy's mother, Nancy, who was back home a few hours away in Santa Cruz, received a text from Troy's wife saying that he was missing. Nancy was both shocked and frustrated that she hadn't been notified sooner. At that point, Troy still had not been reported missing, and once he was, a jurisdictional mix-up further delayed search efforts.Since Troy was not reported missing right away, it took time to connect his disappearance to a commotion that neighbors said they heard the night he vanished. The neighbors were concerned enough to report it to law enforcement that evening. However, learning that information didn't bring anyone closer to finding Troy; it only deepened the mystery. If Troy had truly run from the home on foot that night, underdressed for the January weather, where did he go? How did he disappear without a trace? And was that commotion heard by neighbors connected to Troy's disappearance? For nearly a decade, Troy's loved ones have been trying to piece together what clues they have to answer those questions. Today, they're hoping to reach someone who holds the missing piece that could finally explain what happened to Troy Galloway back in January of 2016.If you have any information about the disappearance of Troy Galloway, please contact the Tuolumne Sheriff's Office at (209) 533-5855.If you have a missing loved one that you would like to have featured on the show, please fill out our case submission form.Follow The Vanished on social media at:FacebookInstagramPatreonSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
This episode first aired on August 14, 2023. In Part 1 of Dorothy Goroshko's story, you heard about her life from her sons, John and Rick. Their childhood was difficult even before Dorothy disappeared and grew even more complicated afterward. Despite Dorothy's faults, Rick is determined to find her, and John believes he deserves answers. They lost their mother at a critical time in their lives and were left to wonder whether she had chosen to abandon them or if something tragic had happened. Neither possibility brought any comfort. After she went missing, the boys also had to take on adult responsibilities, working to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table. On June 4, 1975, Dorothy left home to meet friends for drinks at The Penalty Box in Boston, Massachusetts. Her group of friends frequently spent time at that bar near North Station. They recalled that Dorothy stayed with them throughout the evening and remained until closing. They said their goodbyes, and no one knew where she went next. There were rumors of after-hours clubs in the area, but no one could confirm whether she had been at any of them that night. Could Dorothy have headed home and been involved in an accident? Could she have gone home with someone she met? Or was she planning to meet someone afterward? In recent years, one person has come forward claiming to have seen Dorothy late that night. If you have any information regarding the disappearance of Dorothy Goroshko, please contact the Boston Police Department Homicide Unit at 617-343-4470.
