Ob filozofsko intoniranih, melanholičnih knjigah velike švedsko-finske pisateljice Tove Jansson se postavlja vprašanje, komu so zgodbe o Mumintrolu, njegovi družini in prijateljih pravzaprav namenjene – mladim ali starim?»Moralo je biti proti koncu poznega avgustovskega popoldneva, ko sta Mumintrol in njegova mama prispela v najglobljo hosto.« To je stavek, s katerim nas je v knjigi Mumintrolčki in velika povodenj finsko-švedska pisateljica Tove Jansson pred točno 80 leti prvikrat povedla v svoj neverjetno bogat, ontološko poln domišljijski svet filifjonk, hatifnatov, gafs, hemulov in, jasno, muminov, dobrodušnih, belih, oblih, kakor da puhastih bitjec, ki od daleč spominjajo na miniaturne nilske konje. Tej, prvi knjigi je v naslednjih 25 letih sledilo še osem drugih, ki so svoji avtorici navsezadnje prinesle svetovno slavo in ugled. V tem kontekstu vsekakor velja omeniti, da je leta 1966 na kongresu Mednarodne zveze za mladinsko književnost, ki je potekal prav v Ljubljani, Tove Jansson prejela tudi Andersenovo nagrado, ki sicer velja za nekakšnega Nobela v polju otroške literature. Seveda pa so Mumintrol in drugi junaki Tove Jansson sčasoma prestopili mejo, ki jo predstavljajo knjižne platnice, se naselili v stripih, animiranih serijah, gledaliških igrah, trgovinah z igračami ter zabaviščnih parkih in tako konec koncev ustvarili globalen poslovni imperij. A zakaj natanko? S čim vse so zgodbe Tove Jansson pravzaprav omrežile generacije bralk in bralcev – in to nikakor ne le tistih, mlajših od deset let – po vsem svetu? – To je vprašanje, ki nas je zaposlovalo v tokratnem Kulturnem fokusu, ko smo pred mikrofonom gostili prevajalko dr. This was an incredible conversation with tax expert Tej Gill that I know is going to be super valuable for all of you.   If you've ever found yourself scrambling at the end of the tax year or been hit with unexpected tax bills, this episode is for you. I've seen firsthand with my clients how this alignment can make a massive difference in their ability to make smart financial decisions throughout the year.   We spent quite a bit of time discussing how to analyse your personal needs before diving into any tax strategy. Tej walked through a really practical approach to figuring out exactly how much you need to extract from your business, when you need it, and what you need it for. It sounds basic, but you'd be surprised how many business owners (myself included in the early days!) skip this crucial step.   I particularly loved Tej's insights on leveraging your business for legitimate benefits – from company vehicles to relevant life insurance. These strategies can significantly reduce your personal expenditure needs while remaining fully compliant.   The section on executing your drawing strategy was gold. Tej explained how to properly manage director's loan accounts, when to take salary versus dividends, and how to time everything for maximum tax efficiency. He even shared a few examples that illustrated how proper planning could save thousands in unnecessary tax.   What really stood out to me throughout our conversation was Tej's emphasis on proactivity. As he pointed out, tax planning isn't something you do in March for the year that's ending – it's something you should be thinking about right now for 2025/26.   This episode is packed with actionable advice that I know will help you take control of your tax situation rather than letting it control you. Piše Iztok Ilich, bere Jure Franko. Nova knjiga Jerneja Ščeka, vsestransko dejavnega tržaškega Slovenca, filozofa, esejista, prevajalca in publicista, bralca, bralko pozdravi s kar šestimi nagovori. Na uvodnih straneh se oglašata urednica knjige Martina Kafol in Ali Žerdin, urednik Sobotne priloge Dela, kjer so bili Ščekovi intervjuji, nekateri zaradi prostorskih omejitev časnika nekoliko skrajšani, najprej objavljeni. Na zavihkih platnic nagovarjata Marko Kravos in Nataša Konc Lorenzutti na hrbtu knjige pa z nekaj besedami še Zdravko Duša in Igor Škamperle! Še več iz fotografij in pogovorov sestavljenih portretov šteje galerija uglednih sodobnih italijanskih književnikov, filozofov, zgodovinarjev, psihologov in družboslovcev ter ob njih tudi uspešnežev na povsem drugih področjih. Po izidu prve, medtem že ponatisnjene knjige Kavarna Italija Ščekovi vljudni, sproščeni, poznavalski in suvereni premišljeni dialogi z izbranimi sogovorniki in sogovornicami niso več presenečenje. Osupljivo je morda le to, da je mlademu avtorju v letih 2022–24 uspelo zaokrožiti pogovore ali dopisovanja s še petintrideseterico uglednih raziskovalcev, premišljevalcev in ocenjevalcev kulturnega in političnega dogajanja v današnji Italiji in po svetu. Prva v knjigo Kavarna odprta vstopita zagovornika alpinizma kot umetnosti bistvenega in nasprotnika komercializacije. Ona, Nives Meroi iz Lombardije, on, Roman Benet iz okolice Trbiža – prva zakonca z osvojenimi vsemi štirinajstimi osemtisočaki. Zgodba, močna kot dvojina, kot skupnost dveh, ki se kot eno prebijata naprej, strne Šček. S psihiatrinjo Chiaro Caprì se je Šček pogovarjal o pripadnikih mafijskih združb, ki imajo, kot je razkrila ob preučevanju zapornikov, izrazite sociopatske poteze. Mafija obstaja, a je obenem nikjer ni, najbolj zastrašujoče pa je, da lahko pradavni modeli nadzorovanja ozemlja, strukture in oblikovanja oblasti preživijo v dobi socialnih omrežij. Igiaba Scego, Rimljanka somalskega rodu, pravi, da pisanje v dveh jezikih, ki sta se do včeraj sovražila, doživlja kot dejanje literarne dekolonizacije. In pripominja, da je vsaka vojna bratomorna, saj človek kolje sočloveka. Enako meni tudi svoj čas bojevit zagovornik nadstrankarskega komunizma, teoretični fizik in prevajalec izvirnih biblijskih knjig Carlo Rovelli, ki je med jugoslovansko vojno s tovornjakom vozil pomoč vsem vpletenim etničnim skupnostim. »To je bilo hudičevo delo,« se spominja. »Brat je moril brata, da bi dokazal, da je drugačen.« Pedagog Christiano Raimo je postal učitelj zato, ker verjame, da sta vzgoja in izobraževanje vrhunec slehernega kulturništva in da je od tega vprašanja odvisno vse življenje. Capinski kapitalizem, povzema, si z omejevanjem sredstev javnemu šolstvu sam koplje grob. S pisateljem in novinarjem Antoniom Scuratijem se je Šček pogovarjal o njegovih dokumentarnih romanih, v katerih analizira pojav Mussolinija in fašizma, ter neizprosno razbija mit o Italijanih, dobrih ljudeh. Fašizem se v zborniku pojavi še dvakrat. Najprej v pogovoru z zgodovinarjem Emiliom Gentilejem, ki fašizem že petdeset let preučuje z iskanjem in kritično analizo zgodovinskih virov, torej z uporabo golih dejstev, kot jih je ob upoštevanju kategorij zgodovinskega razuma mogoče dokumentirano rekonstruirati. Pri tem se posebej ukvarja z organizacijsko, kulturno in institucionalno razsežnostjo, ki odsevajo bistvo tega totalitarizma. Zgodovino fašizma in z njim odpora, osvobodilnega gibanja in Jugoslavije 20. stoletja raziskuje tudi precej mlajši Eric Gobetti. Ugotavlja, da se v Italiji vedno znova srečuje s protipartizansko ali protijugoslovansko interpretacijo dejstev, pri čemer so problem tudi sama dejstva. O njih se brezsramno laže. »Največji problem so tisti,« je prepričan Gobetti, »ki zavestno lažejo v brk zgodovinskim dognanjem. To ni politizacija, temveč ideologizacija zgodovine!« Filozof evolucije Telmo Pievani v nemara najbolj vznemirljivem dialogu zavrača idejo človeške zgodovine kot linearno napredujoče puščice od sključene opice do pokončnega prvaka intelektualnega in telesnega razvoja. Po novih odkritjih so Zemljo naseljevale in ena ob drugi sobivale različne človeške vrste, tudi neandertalci, za prevlado najbolj selivskega sapiensa pa je bil odločilen jezik. Pievani prisega na znanost in srečna naključja, ki vodijo do velikih odkritij in svari pred priganjanjem k takojšnjim rezultatom. Zanj je najstrašnejši sovražnik tega časa algoritem, orodje spletnega tržišča, ki uporabnika ne sooča z novimi odkritji, temveč vzgaja generacijo konformistov. »Če pogledate, kaj se dogaja z vidika človeških možganov,« pojasnjuje Ščeku, »boste spoznali, da nazadujemo v starodavne plemenske skupnosti.« Šele predvčerajšnjim smo vstopili v ta potencialno vsevedni krasni novi svet, poln priložnosti in informacij, »v dveh desetletjih pa se s socialnimi omrežji znajdemo z otroki, ki se zapirajo v mehurčke enako mislečih in čutečih, enakih okusov in vrednot,« med katerimi je drugačnež avtomatično čudak, odpadnik. Tej perverzni logiki digitalnega pobarbarjenja se moramo upreti, sklene Pievani. Med zanimivejšimi sogovorniki velja vsaj opozoriti še na enega posebneža. Na Michaeleja Recha, bolj znanega po psevdonimu Zerocalcare, ki ga Jernej Šček predstavi kot prvo ime italijanskega stripa nove generacije in označi za fenomen kulture, ki mežika popu, da bi poganjala alternativo. Pri tem ne podira le rekordov v nakladah, temveč tudi idejne in politične pregrade. Vsi Ščekovi sogovorniki v knjigi Kavarna odprta so zanimive osebnosti, omenili smo morda le za odtenek zanimivejše ali tiste, ki so ob prvem branju korak bližje od preostalih.

Misleci se že od nekdaj te ultimativne teme lotevajo tudi drugače: z intelektualno distanco, vendar se ta ravnodušni pristop nikomur popolnoma ne posreči. Tako je bilo tudi s Ciceronom, rimskim državnikom in filozofom, ki se je v Tuskulu, nedaleč od Rima, v letu, preden so ga privrženci konzula Antonija obglavili, posvetil poglobljenemu premisleku o staranju in smrti. 2-11-25 Tonight we're talking with Kirubell Araya, owner of The Heritage Winery, in New Jersey. Kirubell has taken over the making of t'ej from his father, and is now located in the old location for Melovino Meadery. The Heritage Winery has been open since 1978, making it one of the oldest honey wineries in the US. Araya Yibrehu, Kirubell's father, is a pioneer in bringing Ethiopian cuisine and Tej to the United States. He opened Sheba in 1978, argueably the first Ethiopian restaurant in the US. Over the years he opened several more restaurants, with the most renowned being the Blue Nile in NYC, which became an icon for Ethiopian food lovers. Beyond this, Araya was also a trailblazer in crafting and commercializing Tej n the US, helping to preserve and share this ancient tradition with a wider audience. This would later become the Heritage Winery. Kirubell followed in his father's entrepreneurial footsteps, and grew up immersed in the family business. He graduated from Morehouse College in 2010, and went into commodities brokering, but came back to his roots. He joined the family venture in 2013, bringing a fresh vision and new identity to the Heritage Winery. In 2018 he left his job in finance to dedicate himself to expanding the company. The Heritage Winery meads are made with organic, single-source honey from sustainable farms. Each batch is carefully fermented to highlight the rich floral complexity of the honey, balanced with the earthy bitterness of hops, a key ingredient in traditional Tej. Currently they offer Axum Tej, made with wildflower honey, and Saba Tej, crafted from orange blossom honey. They plan to expand into meads that include fruit, coffee and sparkling Tej, moving an ancient drink into the 21st century.
