Stop Stuffing the Duck with Mary HewittIn this insightful episode of Unlocking Childhood, Mary Hewitt unpacks the idea of "Stop Stuffing the Duck"—a powerful metaphor for how we often overload children with expectations, information, and stress. Mary explores how society's approach to childhood can inadvertently suffocate natural curiosity and resilience, rather than nurturing it.Drawing on the groundbreaking ACEs Too High study, Mary highlights how Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) significantly impact long-term health and well-being. Conducted by Dr. Robert Anda, the CDC, and Kaiser Permanente, this study examined how traumatic events in childhood lead to serious health challenges in adulthood, such as heart disease, depression, addiction, and even autoimmune diseases like mastocytosis. Mary bravely shares her own story as a “textbook case” of the effects of trauma and how understanding her ACE score opened the door to personal healing.Through her journey of self-discovery and transformation, Mary found hope in the science of neuroplasticity—the brain's ability to rewire itself and break the cycle of stress and trauma. She shares how practices like meditation, yoga, and the teachings of Byron Katie helped her overcome bulimia, anxiety, depression, and the debilitating symptoms of mastocytosis. This episode offers listeners practical strategies to move from survival mode to thriving, breaking free from the toxic stress response ingrained by childhood trauma.Tune in to learn how we can stop overloading children and ourselves, and instead focus on building resilient, peaceful minds. Join Mary Hewitt as she inspires us to reimagine childhood and create nurturing environments that honor the uniqueness and natural growth of every child.Listen now to discover how to let go of the pressure, embrace healing, and truly unlock childhood.Support the showSubscribe and support the podcast at https://www.buzzsprout.com/367319/supporters/newLearn more at www.profselenabartlett.com

Zack has a cough, so don't mind that on the show today. Zack heard about Erick getting a VPN, and you should already know where his mind went. Zack helped Erick with his EV charger and learned how much Erick saved. People often hang out at work, but Erick doesn't socialize with any female co-workers. Zack called his sister, but Erick had to call in a friend to ask the question about stuffing bras. All of that and so much more today on the show. When Productivity Becomes a Coping Mechanism Truth # 2: How to Overcome Overthinking, Worry & Fear During Infertility & IVF https://www.podbean.com/eas/pb-dzrwn-17c5c7d Truth # 1: The Illusion of Control: How Letting Go Can Transform Your Fertility Journey During Infertility, IVF & Beyond https://www.podbean.com/eas/pb-j6pya-17b061a The Hidden Impact of Overworking & Stress on Your Fertility During Infertility & IVF "If you've been in this fertility journey, you have probably had a spreadsheet for everything." Topics Discussed The addiction to busyness & why it keeps you stuck in your fertility journey Why we equate doing more with progress (and why that's a lie) How avoiding stillness is actually avoiding healing The subconscious patterns that drive over-researching and over-planning How Mabel, Monica & Monique tackle the obsession with control What happens when you finally slow down and listen to your intuition The role of stress, cortisol, and burnout in fertility struggles Why busyness is often a form of emotional avoidance The mindset shifts needed to embrace trust and surrender Practical steps to break free from the cycle of overdoing "Busyness isn't always about progress. Sometimes it's just a fancy disguise for avoidance." Hello, beautiful- Monica here, and today we are about to RUIN your addiction to busyness—in the best way possible. You see, I know you. You're the type who has an ovulation tracking spreadsheet, a supplement rotation schedule, and a fertility research folder so detailed that even a NASA scientist would be impressed. And hey, I was that girl too. But let's be real for a second—how's that working out for you? Monique is rolling her eyes SO HARD at Mabel today because, spoiler alert, Mabel thinks if she just does more, she'll fixher fertility struggles. Sound familiar? But what if doing more is actually the problem? What if your obsession with figuring it all out is the very thing standing in your way? Today, we're diving into why busyness is often just a sneaky way to avoid the real emotional work. Why sitting still feels terrifying. Why slowing down might be your biggest act of healing yet. Oh, and if you think this episode is gonna be all soft and fluffy, don't worry—Monique is here with some tough love (and a few hard truths you probably don't want to hear but absolutely need to). And because I love making things super practical, I'm giving you a little challenge at the end: Five minutes of stillness. No distractions, no research, no checking your fertility apps. Just you, sitting with yourself. Scary, right? That's the point. So grab your tea (or let's be real, your third cup of coffee), and let's get into it. "If you don't give yourself permission to slow down, your body will do it for you." *** We'll be taking a break over the Christmas/New Year period and will be back in action mid-January.That means that although there won't be any new episodes for a few weeks, we'll be taking another look at some of our favourite conversations from 2024. ***If you've spent any time on YouTube, you're probably already aware of this episode's guest and the various projects his channel is involved in — most famously “Project Binky”, a classic Mini running a Toyota Celica GT-Four engine and AWD driveline.Richard Brunning from Bad Obsession Motorsport joins us to down a few cups of tea, talk motorsport, and run through the ins and outs of neverending project cars, the business of operating a popular automotive YouTube channel, and much more.Use “BAD100” to get $100 OFF our HPA Motorsport Fabrication Package:https://hpcdmy.co/fabpackagebRichard, like many guests of this podcast, has his father to blame for his motorsport obsession. Some of his earliest memories involve hanging out in old sheds while his Dad restored vintage vehicles, tickling up RC cars to get the edge in racing, and days spent on the couch watching Formula 1.This early focus on all things automotive drove Richard towards a life that revolved around motorsport, first starting out in kart racing, before moving on to Caterhams, formula cars, and even some Formula Mazda racing in the States. In this episode, Richard spends time talking us through these different forms of motorsport, and discusses how each type of vehicle could be set up, tweaked, and modified within the rules in order to gain more speed.Eventually, Richard's good friend and eventual partner in crime, Nik Blackhurst, enticed Richard back to the UK to help him go rallying, and it was at this point, way back in 1992, that Bad Obsession Motorsport began.Fast forward a good few years, and Richard and Nick were fed up with the car modification TV shows like Pimp My Ride, Monster Garage, and their contemporaries that were on offer at the time — none of them actually showed why and how any of the work was done. This got the pair thinking that they might be able to do better, and with that goal in mind, the Bad Obsession Motorsport YouTube channel was founded. It took a couple of years, but Richard and Nick's channel began picking up steam, not in small part thanks to “Project Binky”, a Toyota Celica GT-4 powered and driven classic Mini. Richard dives deep into this build, answering our burning questions — chiefly ‘Why'? But also “What's taking so long”?This in-depth discussion around the challenges of fitting so much engine and driveline into such a small package is a great look into what it takes to complete a complicated project to a high standard. Lastly, we also spare some time time to touch on the joys of motorsport wiring, ultra-budget racing in the City Car Cup, and making a living out of building cars on YouTube.Follow Bad Obsession Motorsport here:IG: @badobsessionmspFB: Bad Obsession MotorsportYT: Bad Obsession MotorsportWWW: badobsessionmotorsport.co.ukDon't forget, you can use “BAD100” to get $100 OFF our HPA Motorsport Fabrication Package: https://hpcdmy.co/fabpackageb

In this episode we will discuss food safety at the holidays. From prep to serving there are important tips to remember to ensure a toxin free meal for everyone! Parties, family dinners, and other gatherings where food is served are all part of the holiday cheer. But the joy can change to misery if food makes you or others ill. Typical symptoms of foodborne illness, also known as food poisoning, are vomiting, diarrhea, and flu-like symptoms, which can start anywhere from hours to days after contaminated food or drinks are consumed. The symptoms usually are not long-lasting in healthy people — a few hours or a few days — and usually go away without medical treatment. But foodborne illness can be severe and even life-threatening to anyone, especially those most at risk: older adults infants and young children pregnant people people with diabetes, HIV/AIDS, cancer, or any condition that weakens their immune system people who take medicines that suppress the immune system; for example, some medicines for lupus, psoriasis and rheumatoid arthritis The good news is that practicing four basic food safety measures can help prevent foodborne illness. 1. Clean: The first rule of safe food preparation in the home is to keep everything clean. Wash hands with warm water and soap for 20 seconds before and after handling any food. To help you remember, it takes about 20 seconds to sing "Happy Birthday" two times. Wash food-contact surfaces (cutting boards, dishes, utensils, countertops) with hot, soapy water after preparing each food item and before going on to the next item. Rinse fruits and vegetables thoroughly under cool running water and use a produce brush to remove surface dirt. Do not rinse raw meat and poultry before cooking. Washing these foods makes it more likely for bacteria to spread to areas around the sink and countertops. 2. Separate: Don't give bacteria the opportunity to spread from one food to another (cross-contamination). Keep raw eggs, meat, poultry, seafood, and their juices away from foods that won't be cooked. Take this precaution while shopping in the store, when storing in the refrigerator at home, and while preparing meals. Consider using one cutting board only for foods that will be cooked (such as raw meat, poultry, and seafood) and another one for foods that will not be cooked (such as raw fruits and vegetables). Keep fruits and vegetables that will be eaten raw separate from other foods such as raw meat, poultry or seafood — and from kitchen utensils used for those products. Do not put cooked meat or other food that is ready to eat on an unwashed plate that has held any raw eggs, meat, poultry, seafood, or their juices. 3. Cook: Food is safely cooked when it reaches a high enough internal temperature to kill harmful bacteria. Color is not a reliable indicator of doneness. Use a food thermometer to make sure meat, poultry, and fish are cooked to a safe internal temperature. To check a turkey for safety, insert a food thermometer into the innermost part of the thigh and wing and the thickest part of the breast. The turkey is safe when the temperature reaches 165ºF. If the turkey is stuffed, the temperature of the stuffing should be 165ºF. (Please read on for more pointers on stuffing.) Bring sauces, soups, and gravies to a rolling boil when reheating. Cook eggs until the yolk and white are firm. When making your own eggnog or other recipe calling for raw eggs, use pasteurized shell eggs, liquid or frozen pasteurized egg products, or powdered egg whites. Don't eat uncooked cookie dough, which may contain raw eggs and raw flour. 4. Chill: Refrigerate foods quickly because harmful bacteria grow rapidly at room temperature. Refrigerate leftovers and takeout foods — and any type of food that should be refrigerated — within two hours. That includes pumpkin pie! Set your refrigerator at or below 40ºF and the freezer at 0ºF. Check both periodically with an appliance thermometer. Never defrost food at room temperature. Food can be defrosted safely in the refrigerator, under cold running water, or in the microwave. Food thawed in cold water or in the microwave should be cooked immediately. Allow the correct amount of time to properly thaw food. For example, a 20-pound turkey needs four to five days to thaw completely when thawed in the refrigerator. Don't taste food that looks or smells questionable. A good rule to follow is, when in doubt, throw it out. Leftovers should be used within three to four days. Bonus Tip: Use Care with Stuffing! Whether it is cooked inside or outside the bird, all stuffing and dressing must be cooked to a minimum temperature of 165ºF. For optimum safety, cooking your stuffing in a casserole dish is recommended. Stuffing should be prepared and stuffed into the turkey immediately before it's placed in the oven. Mix wet and dry ingredients for the stuffing separately and combine just before using. The turkey should be stuffed loosely, about 3/4 cup stuffing per pound of turkey. Any extra stuffing should be baked in a greased casserole dish. (CREDITS: FDA)

All the discourse might involves too many three's and sagging ratings, but why was a low-scoring NBA Cup final between the Bucks and Thunder a strange breath of fresh air? Are the Kings, Heat, and Wolves in a purgatory where they need to make dramatic moves? Why has Riche suddenly become anti-rest? The duo also discuss the Christmas Day broadcast lineup, the overachieving Spurs, Joel Embiid in a mask, and more! So suit up, take it out in episode 329, and Merry Christmas & Happy New Year form the NBA-Team!

One week out from Christmas, we're bringing you a special all about the holidays. Will festive episodes of The Twilight Zone and Frasier take their place in our TV Hall of Fame? Will a famous failure of a Veronica Mars episode land in our Hall of Shame? Fa la la la la la la la listen and find out! TOPICS The Canon:
Stuffing a big engine into a small car has been a formula for success throughout the history of the automobile. Oldsmobile stuffed its new overhead-valve V8 into its 88. Later, Pontiac stuffed 389 cubic inches worth of V8 into a Tempest. While this trend never really went away, it did change – turbocharged, smaller displacement engines squeeze more oomph out of smaller displacements. That said, Lexus looked at its parts catalog, saw the 5.0-liter V8 was available, and stuffed it into the small IS sedan. Of course, there was more to the mating of this 5.0-liter V8 and this small sedan, but it does follow the same formula as some of the most beloved muscle machines of yore. This '24 Lexus IS 500 sends 472 hp and 395 lb-ft of torque through an eight-speed automatic transmission. From there, power shuffles to the IS 500's rear axle, only. On this episode of Quick Spin, host Wesley Wren hops behind the wheel of the 2024 Lexus IS 500 and puts it through its paces. Wren takes you on a guided tour of the '24 IS 500 and highlights some of his favorite features. Later in the show, Wren takes you along for a live drive review. Adding to these segments, Wren chats with Autoweek's Patrick Carone about the Lexus IS, this V8-powered version, and how it compares to the competitive set. Closing the show, the pair breaks down what makes this 2024 Lexus Is 500 special.

Stuffed pork loin looks fancy, but it doesn't have to be hard! Anne talks through slicing it open for a spiral stuffed look that is not only nice visually, but keeps the filling evenly distributed and less likely to spill out. The full printable recipe is linked above, but if you're making your grocery list here's what you'll need: Meat: 3 lb boneless pork loin Stuffing: 12 oz frozen spinach, 1/2 cup feta cheese Seasoning: 4 cloves garlic, 1 tbsp salt, 1 tsp pepper, 1 tsp oil
Feelings are important, but navigating difficult ones is hard. What do we do with the complicated emotions that often arise in life? Feelings that we've been taught we shouldn't feel as Christians? A lot of us push them down and pretend they don't matter. Others of us get stuck in the pain. But the Bible suggest a better way: "Pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge" (Psalm 62:8). How do we do that? I'm so glad you asked! Anjuli's Paschall's book, Feel: A Collection of Liturgies Offering Hope for Every Complicated Emotion, has been such a gift to me. And I absolutely LOVE our tender and raw conversation. We were both in tears as we talked about the disappointments and hurts that we've faced. Anjuli assures us that rather than tidying up our emotions, we can be real and raw with God as well. Her book helps us Key Takeaways: Emotions aren't good or bad - they're simply part of being human. Rather than denying our emotions, they can be an indicator light for the places God wants to heal. God gives us permission to feel - for we serve an emotional God! We have a Savior who not only understands our feelings, He invites us to bring them to Him. We can be honest with God and ourselves - rather than being overwhelmed by emotions, we can curious as we process them with Jesus. For they often reveal what God wants to heal. This is such an important conversation, you guys. And this book could literally change your life. Stuffing and denying our emotions only makes them come out sideways in anxiety, depression and issues with our health. How much better to bring them all to Jesus. Anjuli's book helps us do just that! This year, we're revisiting an appropriately classic Thanksgiving episode. The best (and cheapest) therapy for those small things that get under your skin is sometimes a good venting session so you can get it off your chest and move on with your life! And if you're not privy to the first-hand vent-a-thon, then being a fly on the wall listening is hopefully equally therapeutic and also maybe entertaining. Welcome to Rant Therapy, a podcast short powered by the hosts of the Happy Eating podcast, Brierley Horton and Carolyn Williams, where we periodically share our real-life venting sessions with each other—AKA what we're “so over”. What's Brierley “so over” this week? THE DEBATE! Stuffing VS Dressing! Thank you for listening to Rant Therapy on the Happy Eating Podcast.
