With the Colorado Avalanche crowned Stanley Cup Champions and the longest NHL season in history finally over, Bob has questions and he's hoping Mike Zeisberger and Kevin Paul Dupont can answer them. Is the NHL regular season too long? What can the league do to better market their product and who's going where in free agency? We try to answer all of those burning questions and more on todays NHL Roundtable. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
6 NHL teams currently need a new coach and we wouldn't be surprised if that number grows over the course of the NHL off-season. Kevin Paul Dupont from the Boston Globe & Bruce Garrioch from the Ottawa Sun join the show to talk about all of the leagues recent firings, current job openings and the coaches who are looking to get back behind the bench. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
We're back! After a 2 week break, Bob and John ring in the New Year with a good ol' fashion NHL Roundtable featuring two of our favourite reoccurring hockey pucks - Mike Zeisberger and Kevin Paul Dupont. The four talk at length about the cash grab that is the NHL's outdoor games. We discuss the significance of the now oversaturated event and question the importance an outdoor game has within a fanbase. We talk about the decision for the NHL players to not attend the 2022 Olympic games, COVID's effect on professional sports' game scheduling and what the solution, if there is one, could be.
The Hockey pucks are back - KEVIN DUPONT from the Boston Globe & ERIC DUHATSCHEK of The Athletic join the podcast to talk hockey. The four address as many situations in the NHL as possible starting with what teams poor start has surprised them more - The Montreal Canadiens or the Chicago Blackhawks? We dissect the two teams and try to figure out what is going wrong for them both before we transition on to another surprising team - The Buffalo Sabres. Is their hot start just a fluke? What's happening with Jack Eichel & how much longer can they last before they start looking like the Sabres we expected to see from the start? To end the show, we wonder if the Edmonton Oilers are finally the real deal and question whether or not the Colorado Avalanche ever were.
NHL Free Agency is in full effect, so we brought two of our hockey experts in MIKE ZEISBERGER from NHL.com & KEVIN DUPONT from the Boston Globe to break down everything that has happened so far. We look at some of the big signings around the league, wonder why New Jersey paid Dougie Hamilton so much money and figure out who has done the best job so far. We also get into the Jack Eichel trade rumours and speculations. The four begin to wonder how good he actually is, and who will pay the Sabres asking price to get him. To end the show, we address all of the problems surrounding the Toronto Maple Leafs. With four of the teams biggest contracts coming from forwards, is it time to trade at least one of them to even out their roster?
KEVIN PAUL DUPONT of the Boston Globe and MIKE ZEISBERGER from NHL.com join the podcast today to preview the 2021 NHL Playoffs. On todays roundtable, the gentlemen cover the entirety of the NHL playoff matchups as the season comes to an end. The four cover it all, from post season favourites to potential playoff surprises, we go through each first round matchup as the group gives their opinion on the must watch games across the league and who we should keep an eye on in the race for the Stanley Cup
On today’s show: Tom Reed, Dave Molinari and Taylor Haase discuss the Penguins' complete game Thursday night in Buffalo, what moves they'd make at the trade deadline, and Kevin Dupont of The Boston Globe joins us to look ahead to the next series against the Bruins. EPISODE 90 - The FRIDAY ROUNDTABLE with STEVE SIMMONS and KEVIN PAUL DUPONT about role of the media in sports today. How hard it is during COVID? Also, how has the industry changed in recent years to make reporting on sports tougher? What is the role of the columnist and how has that evolved with the rise of social media? What is the line for being critical of a player? A fascinating discussion about sports media today.

This is from June 21, apologies for the delayed posting. Bruce McQuain from Blackfive joined me once again for Someone You Should Know, our weekly tribute to the troops. Bruce spent 28 years in the U.S. Army and he is a veteran of the Vietnam war. He brings a perspective and understanding to these stories that we could never match. We staretd with the sad news that Army Sgt. Kevin Dupont had passed away. He put up an incredible fight and inspired many people. Bruce went on to tell us about Army Sgt. John Hoxie, via Army News Service, "Through it all, Hoxie never got discouraged, and never stopped thinking of himself as a member of the Airborne Infantry. He kept in regular contact with his unit, and focused on the goal of recovering from his injuries and returning as soon as possible to regular duty. "You've got two choices. You can either lay down and quit, or you can stand up and fight through your problems and overcome them," he said. In April, Hoxie was able to walk upright with the use of canes, and he expects to be able to walk without any support in a few weeks. Throughout his struggle, Hoxie's never-say-die attitude has been an inspiration for his fellow Paratroopers. "He's just a great Soldier," Mace said. The emotional highlight of Hoxie's return to Fort Bragg came on May 19, when he was awarded the Bronze Star by his brigade commander in front of his unit. As sweet as that moment was, Hoxie has his eyes set on another milestone - he wants to be able to run with his unit during next year's All American Week division run. "That's my goal for next year," he said." The Someone You Should Know radio collaboration began as an extension of Matt Burden’s series at Blackfive. Bruce does an incredible job with the series every week. What is Pundit Review Radio? Pundit Review Radio is where the old media meets the new. About six weeks ago we told you the story of Kevin Dupont from Chicopee, MA. Kevin is a 52-year old Army National Guard soldier who volunteered to go to Afghanistan. He was severely injured in an IED explosion while riding in a humvee. He suffered expensive burns and he was fighting for life at US Army Burn Center at Brooke Army Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. His friend, MA State Police Sgt. Jim Deyermond, returned tonight to give us an update on Kevin’s condition. It has been an emotional rollercoaster for Kevin, his family and friends. On Kevin’s website at CaringBridge, there is a message board with hundreds of comments of support and encouragement. Kevin’s wife Lisa posted an update tonight that closed with this hopeful passage, "His surgeon made quite a interesting statement yesterday , he stated, I’ve learned my lesson with this guy, I am never giving up on him again. Just when you think he’s down and out, boy he comes right back, time after time……." Kevin faces a long and difficult rehab. If you are able to donate to a charitable fund set up for Kevin's long-term care, you can do so at: Blue Skin Foundation 256 Doyle Road Holden, MA 01520. What is Pundit Review Radio? It is always a pleasure to get the opportunity to talk with Patti Patton Bader about her amazing group of Soldiers Angels. Soldiers Angels has become a global organization of volunteers who give backs in all kinds of ways, large and small, to the men and women in uniform. A great example of their impact came through the story of Kevin Dupont from Chicopee, MA. Kevin is a 52-year old Army National Guard soldier who volunteered to go to Afghanistan. Kevin was severely injured in an IED explosion while riding in a humvee. He has suffered expensive burns and he is fighting for life at US Army Burn Center at Brooke Army Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. Kevin's friend, a Mass. State Police Sgt., emailed us about his situation. We invited him into the studio to tell us about Kevin. During one of the commericals, he Trooper tells me about all the Soldiers Angels at Brooke Army Hospital in TX and how they have reached out to the Dupont family. I was not surprised at all. There is a charitable foundation set up to support Kevin's long road to recovery. Here is the contact information. Blue Skin Foundation 256 Doyle Road Holden, MA 01520 As for Soldiers Angels, Patti told us she has more than 700 soldiers waiting to be "adopted". What does that mean? " When you adopt you are committing to sending a card or letter each week, and a minimum of 1 or 2 care packages a month. This is one of the most important things that can be done to help bring home a healthy hero; it is so very important for each of them to know they are loved and supported, and your letters and care packages prove just that. Care packages do not have to be expensive: you can put together your own (we have a detailed list of the most-requested items for you--snacks, hygiene products, and games or magazines). We have also have some exciting themed care packages in the Angel Store (they are sold at cost and shipped directly to your soldier, complete with a personal note from you)." The Someone You Should Know radio collaboration began as an extension of Matt Burden’s series at Blackfive. Bruce McQuain, a 28-year veteran of the Army who served in Vietnam, joins us each week to tell us a new, incredible story of bravery and heroics on the battlefield. This week were touched by an email we received from Massachusetts State Police Sgt. Jim Deyermond. Jim’s longtime friend Kevin Dupont from Chicopee is a 52-year old Army National Guard soldier who volunteered to go to Afghanistan. Kevin was severely injured in an IED explosion while riding in a humvee. He has suffered expensive burns and he is fighting for life at US Army Burn Center at Brooke Army Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. Here is an excerpt from Sgt. Deyermond’s email, “I write this letter to ask for your help in getting Kevin’s story and sacrifice out to the people of Massachusetts and to his hundreds of friends throughout New England. Kevin is no spring-chicken. He is 52 years old and after graduating from Chicopee, Massachusetts High School he enlisted in the Marines. After serving two tours in the Marines, Kevin returned home and joined the Massachusetts Army National Guard. While serving with the Mass Guard, Kevin has been assigned to the Counter-Drug Program. During his service with the Guard, Kevin has worked with almost every law enforcement department in the state. He has also been assigned to two FBI (H.I.D.T.A.) offices and to the United States Coast Guard Intelligence Unit in Boston. I am hoping that you will be able to let people know. Kevin volunteered to be deployed to Afghanistan. He didn’t have to go. He could easily have stayed here in Massachusetts doing his National Guard duties instead of where he is now, lying in a hospital bed unconscious, with feeding and breathing tubes keeping him alive and bandages over most of his body.” Kevin and his family need our support, emotional and financial. There is a website set up where you can read about Kevin and leave a message for him. http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/kevindupont Jim and his friends have also set up a tax deductable charitable organization to raise money for the family.
