-It was eye-opening when Jim Knowles chose to leave Ohio State for Penn State this weekend, landing a 3-year, $9.3 million contract. Money talks for sure-What coach would you want to poach for Nebraska? Iowa has different coaches you might want (Phil Parker, LeVar Woods)…what other B1G school (at a former B1G West school) would you want to poach?-Also, a Notre Dame transfer o-lineman is considering Nebraska…what are their chances?Show sponsored by SANDHILLS GLOBALAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
A coordinator themed press review show as we once again got to hear from Tim Lester, Levar Woods, and Phil Parker. It's BYE week for the Hawks, one they need, and the coaches provided some interesting answers to questions on Tuesday. Does Coach Parker and staff even know why this Defense that returned 8 starters hasn't performed up to potential this year? Is there a Cooper Dejean shaped presence that this years team doesn't have allowing opposing teams to have more confidence and take more chances? Where has Dakin settled in nationally and is there actually any concerns with the Special Teams at this point? Who is actually going to be our QB against Maryland, and beyond. Why should we be so excited about what Tim Lester brings to this off season, and a whole lot more.If you love the show and want to show support, tell your friends! In this exciting episode, we're thrilled to have special teams coach LeVar Woods from the Iowa Hawkeyes as our guest!
Levar, 'Coach' Woods(to us) was born in Cleveland, Ohio. He eventually found himself in Iowa, where he attended West Lyon High School, and was Class 2A Player of the Year in his Senior Season. He committed to Iowa, a fun story that he goes into detail on, as a Defensive End in one of Hayden Fry's final recruiting classes. After 'getting his ass kicked' for his first 2 years he found time on Special Teams and reps on Defense where he started to have success. He would go on to play 7 years in the NFL before starting his coaching career. He got onto staff in Iowa City in 2008 and has been there ever since, coaching Tight Ends, Linebackers, and Special Teams during his tenure. He is now recognized as one of the best assistant coaches/coordinators in the country. He also, the day of this recording saw his son commit to his alma mater. We discuss all of this and more in our 100+ minute sit down with him.If you love the show and want to show support, tell your friends! Trent Condon is back for an instant reaction podcast after the Hawkeye women run past Penn State and the men fall in State College against the Nittany Lions.First, a breakdown of the women's game on a night where Caitlin Clark struggles with her shot. Clark still had 27 points and 15 assists, but the story of the game was Hannah Stuelke who goes off for 47 points and a new Carver-Hawkeye Arena scoring record. Then a look at the men's team struggling down the stretch again after battling back to take a 7 point lead on the road. The path to an NCAA Tournament bid seems almost impossible now.And then thoughts on the LeVar Woods returning as Iowa's special teams coordinator and what that means plus the work in front of him. Football talk starts at 19 minutes into the show- That's where we discuss the media availability of Lester, Wallace, and KF. We talk about the info KF let the public in on relative to the OC hiring process, our thoughts about Tim Lester's first time at the podium and what it was like watching him field questions in contrast to what it's been like with Brian at the podium the last few years. We break down Coach Wallace's comments on his opportunities elsewhere and why he ultimately chose to stay in Iowa City, headlined by his promotion. We also discuss the news that Levar Woods took an interview the Buccaneers and how these guys are real people looking to advance in their careers regardless of how in place they feel at Iowa, AND the dynamic between Coach Woods and Wallace as 2 guys you want to keep around for as long as possible.Around that football conversation we talk about the first ever Walkon Golf event that is 100% a GO after years of talking about it, some reactions to the Joe Evans episode, The Super Bowl preview, and a whole lot more!If you love the show and want to show support, tell your friends! LeVar Woods Talks Special Teams and More
Iowa's Special Teams have been consistently great since Levar Woods look the lead responsibilities in 2018. Since then Woods has shown that he has the knowledge and experience to lead the Hawkeyes to a victory if he needs to. But for some reason ESPN is discrediting Iowa's abilities to win the B1G West this upcoming season. Granted it is just an early season prediction list but Iowa has a lot to prove to all the haters out there saying they don't have a chance to win the B1G West. Billy Taylor has made a name for himself in the past as a more than solid a safe choice as a head coach at a few different colleges/universities. Now he's taking his coaching talents to North Carolina to become the head men's basketball coach at Elon University. Taylor has a history of turning sub-par teams around so hopefully he will find success in his new position. We here at the Locked On Network and the Locked On Hawkeyes podcast wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors. Ian Moore is the latest big man to be offered a scholarship by Ferentz and the Iowa football team. The 6'6" 290lb, 2024 offensive lineman recruit out of Indiana shows some very promising talent and seems to be ahead of where his fellow recruits are in terms of game maturity and knowledge. Will Iowa seize the opportunity to pick up another giant for their offensive line in the future? It will probably be at least a little while before we know so for now we can only hope. Iowa Hawkeye coaches Brian Ferentz, Phil Parker, Raymond Braithwaite, and Levar Woods spoke to the media last week. Brian was pleased with the development of his young offensive linemen like Mason Richman, Nick Dejong, and Connor Colby but unhappy overall with the performance of the offense. It's clear he recognizes the necessity to get Tyrone Tracy Jr the ball while acknowledging the looming presence of true freshmen wide receivers Arland Bruce and Keagan Johnson. Defensively, Phil Parker was pleased with how his defensive unit bounced back in practice and didn't see as much wrong with the Purdue game as the fans did. He also had a glowing compliment for true freshman Cooper DeJean that is sure to raise some eyebrows.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!SweatBlockGet it today for 20% off at SweatBlock.com with promo code LockedOn, or at Amazon and CVS.Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar.
