Episode 79 of The Mental Game features two-time Olympic track sprint cyclist, Sam Dakin of New Zealand. Not only is Dakin one of New Zealand's top athletes, but he's also among the nation's foremost mental health advocates. As he deals with obsessive-compulsive disorder, Dakin has taken an active role in helping both himself — through therapy and active coping strategies — and others, by spearheading advocacy and communication efforts.Dakin also heads up Slow Coffee Roasters, which “uses coffee as a way to slow down.” Among Dakin's top principles is forcing himself to move slowly and “marinate” in life.On The Mental Game, Dakin…Dives into why his coffee company helps his (and can help your) mental health.Tells the inspiring story of coming to terms with his mind.Explains why he sometimes stares at a wall for 45 minutes to start his day.And much, much more…The Mental Game podcast is produced by Sam Brief and music is courtesy of David Brief and Channel J. A coordinator themed press review show as we once again got to hear from Tim Lester, Levar Woods, and Phil Parker. It's BYE week for the Hawks, one they need, and the coaches provided some interesting answers to questions on Tuesday. Does Coach Parker and staff even know why this Defense that returned 8 starters hasn't performed up to potential this year? Is there a Cooper Dejean shaped presence that this years team doesn't have allowing opposing teams to have more confidence and take more chances? Where has Dakin settled in nationally and is there actually any concerns with the Special Teams at this point? Who is actually going to be our QB against Maryland, and beyond. Why should we be so excited about what Tim Lester brings to this off season, and a whole lot more.If you love the show and want to show support, tell your friends! In this episode of Talkin' Hawks, Matt and Laura have an engaging conversation with Rhys Dakin as he shares his journey from Australia to becoming a punter for the Iowa Hawkeye Football team. He discusses his experiences with Pro-Kick, the cultural adjustments he faced, and his early sports background. Rhys reflects on his first impressions of Iowa, Coach Woods, and the unique atmosphere of Kinnick Stadium. He also touches on his personal interests outside of football, including basketball and golf, and expresses his excitement for the future. This is an episode you don't want to miss!
We got to hear from the Coordinators during this Week 5 BYE for the Hawks and they did not disappoint! Lester was the highlight, as he spoke with nuance and explanation that Iowa fans haven't heard maybe ever. Parker came with some spitfire and some stats to back up the Defense which may have been unfairly judged at this point, and Levar brought detail from the special teams room that allowed some fun insight to Dakin, Stevens, and the coverage units. We talk about reframing how we think about this Offense as Coach Lester provided great perspective on how little they have had time wise to get this thing rolling, and about Lester developing QBs better moving forward to fix an all time soft spot in the Ferentz era. We discuss Parker's macro view of the Defense, the CB battle, and Castro, and finish with Woods and why the fans should feel great about special teams moving forward. If you love the show and want to show support, tell your friends!
