Building a roster at any level goes way beyond the 11 that line up on offense and defense. Special teams, forgotten about until the big play hits, is a pivotal factor as an NFL roster cuts down to 53, and as college rosters think about 105 and maneuvering in the transfer portal. So, how exactly is it all factored in? Neil and I are joined by fast rising coach and Special Teams Coordinator at Florida Atlantic University, Tyler Schovanec, to talk all things special teams. From his start as a QB and being the guy that could operate a computer to being prepared when the opportunity came (which some would call luck). Tyler talks us through his journey, his champions, his philosophy for special teams and so much more. This week on the Five Heart Podcast, the format is thrown out the door. That's right, Holgermaniacs, the show you wanted for months is finally happening! The pages of Minnie's notes are OUT! Greg's freestyle approach is in. It's what you think you've wanted but only time will tell if it turns into the prize you think it is. Let's face it...just like Batman at the end of The Dark Knight, Greg is the hero this show deserves, but not the one it needs right now (that would be Minnie, for all of you wondering). But it's the football off-season. We're not yet to Spring Football. The transfer portal is temporarily closed. It's less the off-season and more like the dead period. But Mike Ekeler was officially announced as the Special Teams Coordinator and his salary was revealed. How does it compare to other salaries on the coaching staff? Who needs a bump in pay? Who is overcompensated? Also...Nebraska Men's Basketball. Though I feel like even mentioning them by name casts a shadow over the program. I love Fred Hoiberg and I love this team, but it seems like the more I watch them or care about them, that's when their performance anxiety kicks in. And we don't want that. We'll also cover women's hoops, wrestling, and softball. Baseball starts up this week so there may be something there to discuss. It's all in a wild and whacky show - NO FORMAT - on the Corn Nation YouTube, Facebook, and X. Join us. We insist.

When I first met Coach Chad Lunsford, his passion was undeniable. Coach Lunsford, the newly appointed Special Teams Coordinator at Auburn University, joins me on this episode of The Paige Kornblue Show to take us behind the scenes of his impressive coaching philosophy and career. He shares insights from his time as Head Coach at Georgia Southern and his leadership at Florida Atlantic University. We dive into some of his most rewarding and challenging moments, discuss the importance of building strong relationships with players while navigating the changing landscape of college football, and talk about parenthood, resilience, leadership, and family, with Coach Lunsford offering powerful life lessons all centered around the three letters W-I-N. Bo Nix and the Denver Broncos went toe-to-toe with Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 10. Partly due to that, at Sean Payton's end-of-season press conference, he stated the Denver Broncos felt 'real good' about playing the Kansas City Chiefs in the Playoffs had they beat the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Wild Card game.Would the Denver Broncos have beat the Kansas City Chiefs in the Divisional Round of the AFC Playoffs? Or would Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and Andy Reid beat Sean Payton and Bo Nix?Additionally, where does Vance Joseph's search for a head coaching job stand? The Niners have earned an A+ so far, 3 days into the offseason. They have fired their Special Teams Coordinator, Brian Schnieder, and fired/reassigned their Defensive Coordinator, Nick Sorenson. Cincinnati Bengals special teams coordinator Darrin Simmons joins us today on In the Trenches with Dave Lapham to discuss the Bengal's special teams and how the next game against the Pittsburgh Steelers is a must-win game. The Bengals special teams have been up and down this year with McPhearson having the worst season of his career missing huge kicks in many of the Bengal's losses this year. Coach Simmons does believe Money Mac can regain his mojo and the coaching staff still has a great belief in his abilities. Ryan Rehkow has been an amazing addition, being one of the best punters in the NFL in 2024. He's averaging just over fifty yards per punt and his long on the season is eighty yards which is a Bengals record. Hopefully, McPhearson can regain his stride and Rehkow can continue to play great and give the Bengals great special teams for the rest of the season. We want to thank Coach Simmons for being a fantastic guest and for joining us today on In the Trenches with Dave Lapham brought to you by First Star Logistics.
