Gigi Saul Guerrero: Culture Shock, Horror, and Filmmaking from Two Worlds In this insightful conversation with filmmaker Gigi Saul Guerrero, Danny explores Gigi's journey from Mexico City to Canada, where cultural differences inspired her film Culture Shock. They discuss the influence of her Mexican heritage and how she integrates it into her work, particularly in the horror genre, referencing figures like Guillermo del Toro. Gigi opens up about the personal stories that inspire her films, from her mother's cult experiences to her own fears rooted in rich Mexican folklore. She also shares how her love for cinema was sparked by films like Children of Men and her passion for storytelling that reflects humanity's darker side. The conversation also touches on Gigi's brand, @mexicangorefest , and its mission to become a horror staple like Blumhouse. Gigi reflects on the challenges of working on Satanic Hispanics, incorporating indigenous folklore, and the spooky occurrences that happened on set. To wrap up, Danny and Gigi bond over their shared love of vampire movies like Interview with the Vampire. We're not clowning around with our new episode but we are talking about two movies featuring killer clowns. We kick off the show by talking about Luchagore Productions' new series La Quinceañera, followed by some Real World Horror about a Florida woman who removed her mother's eyes. In Horror Business, we discuss Rob Zombie's Devil's Rejects sequel as well as the return of the Leprechaun. We also cover a new Netflix slasher from the producer of "Stranger Things," a possible theme for "American Horror Story" season 8, and the evolving story behind the remake of Chopping Mall. For our movies, we head to the big top to review the film Circus of the Dead, about a sick and twisted group of clowns, led by Bill Oberst, Jr. We then move on to talk about the latest Dread Central Presents feature, Terrifier, about a clown who only cares about his own entertainment... and he's entertained by murder. So come run away and join the circus with a brand new episode of The Grave Plot Podcast.
Greg and Jenius finish off Women in Horror month with the co-founder of Luchagore Productions, Gigi Saul Guerrero! They get caught up in Gigi's current projects and then talk Santa Sangre and Orphan!
Crypticon Seattle has come and gone once again. "The largest gathering of fans of the macabre in the Pacific Northwest" has become a staple of the Grave Plot Podcast and this year may be the best yet. Listen in as we recap the weekend, including talking to Tony Todd and Kane Hodder or, as you may know them, Candyman and Jason Voorhees. We also spoke to Lisa Ovies, the director of the upcoming film Puppet Killer, and the good folks at Luchagore Productions and you can hear those interviews for yourself! You can also hear about the different panels we appeared on, drunk dancing with Krusty Bumbles, the many short films we watched, and a nightmarish adventure of simply getting home. So check it out and hopefully we'll see you there next year!
Greg and Jenius welcome back co-founder of Luchagore Productions, Gigi Guerrero and she brings along producer/production designer Raynor Shima to talk all their current projects. We also talk about the upcoming Panic Film Festival!
Octoberma gets a new twist with the first ever Week of the Slasher! We start things off by reviewing the 1981 story of Cropsey, The Burning. Contrary to Taylor's statement, there were no sequels. There were, however, many sequels to Friday the 13th, the best of which was part six, Jason Lives, which we also review. FInally, we have a mini-review of the new short film from former guests Luchagore Productions, "Madre De Dios," starring another former guest, Tristan Risk. So grab something sharp and get ready to chase down some half naked campers with The Grave Plot Podcast.
We're back and on the attack! In today's Horror Business, we talk about a famous director who lost his head, the upcoming remakes of Cujo and Ghostbusters, new directors for everybody, and a tale of Muppet murder most foul. We also discuss the future of the Evil Dead, The Dark Tower, Blade, Hannibal, and Dead Island franchises. We get back into the swing of interviews with three very exciting guests. We sat down with Raynor Shima, Luke Bramley, and Gigi Saul Guerrero of Luchagore Productions. We discuss their past, present, and future including their projects such as Madre de Dios, El Gigante, and Choose Your Victim. We also discuss how the company got its start and their relationship with the Soska sisters. In our reviews, we tackle the Eli Roth-produced thriller The Stranger (VOD), as well as Exeter - aka Backmask aka The Asylum - the latest from director Marcus Nispel. So listen up, you primitive screwheads!
About six months ago Gigi Saul Guerrero, Luke Bramley and Raynor Shima from LuchaGore Productions came to the League to chat with J.J and Troy about their Kickstarter campaign they were in the midst of. That Kickstarter was for El Gigante, which not only met it's goal of five thousand dollars, but exceeded it by more than double. So, needless to say a lot has happened since we last talked to them. After they showed us this amazing film, The Stevil Dead sat down with the LuchaGore team about it's creation. They filled us in on great production stories about things like the five day construction of the wrestling ring in a sweaty studio space, their first time using a stunt coordinator and even giving on set character developments. Given the opportunity to check out the final product, it was very cool to get an inside chat about their beloved cast and crew, their post production and incredible, atmospheric sound design. Now, with El Gigante doing the festival circuit and getting notice by Vancouver horror icons like the Twisted Twins and Luchagore still participating in competitions like the 72 hour Phrike Festival, this closely knit team of imaginative individuals movie to make this film a full length feature with their screenwriter, and writer of the source novel, Shane McKenzie. Our guess is the next time we have them in we will see them moving forward with into their first feature film.
JJ and Troy welcome Gigi, Luke and Raynor from LuchaGore Productions! We get the history of LuchaGore, and the award-winning short films they have made, and we get spoilers on the Choose Your Victim web series from 2012. We then delve into their current project El Gigante, and hopes of it becoming a feature film. We find out their favorite moments while filming and why Gigi hates Master and Commander.
