In this gripping return to Believe in People, Young Lee opens up about what happens after the chaos of addiction — when the drugs are gone, the dust has settled, and the real work begins. Once a rising star in the music scene, Young shares how losing everything forced him to rebuild from scratch — not just a life, but a self. Through daily spiritual practice, honest service, and the quiet discipline of presence, he's found a deeper kind of freedom — one rooted not in status or success, but in being truly useful. This isn't just a story of surviving addiction — it's a raw, unflinching look at the spiritual journey of being recovered. Young speaks with moving clarity about earning back trust from his children, breaking the illusion of control, and staying grounded in a world that pulls us in every direction. If you've ever wondered what recovery really looks like years down the line — this episode is your answer. It's not about perfection. It's about showing up, telling the truth, and choosing peace, one day at a time.If you liked this episode then you'll also love Young's first appearance in episode 41

This episode is dedicated to Robb Chadwick, who passed away in mid-December. Robb was a great friend, a supporter of this podcast and a true Southern gentleman. His insight and knowledge of the facts of many cases, along with his kind and calm debate strategy will be missed by many. RIP, Robb.In Episode 14, State of Maryland v. Adnan Masud Syed, Lisa was joined by Robb Chadwick, a former journalist with a life-long interest in the truth of true crime and fairness for victims. Since his retirement, Robb has researched and written about a number of cases — but none more than the case of the day: the murder of Hae Min Lee by Adnan Masud Syed. On January 13, 1999, Hae Min Lee disappeared after leaving Woodlawn High School, where she was a popular athlete and scholar. Police looking for her questioned several people, including her current boyfriend and ex-boyfriend, Adnan Syed. On February 9, 1999, Hae's body was found partially buried in a shallow grave in Leakin Park, in Baltimore City, Maryland. Three days later, on February 12, an anonymous tip led police to put Adnan Syed at the top of their suspect list. On February 27, 1999, Jay Wilds, an acquaintance of Syed, was interviewed by police and, early on the morning of February 28, 1999, led police to Hae's missing vehicle. Syed was convicted and sentenced to Life, plus 30 years in 2000. The case has been the topic of multiple podcasts over the years and in 2022, his conviction was vacated by a pro-defendant judge in a fixed hearing at which no one represented the interests of Hae Min Lee, or her family. On August 30, 2024, the Supreme Court of Maryland affirmed the Appellate Court of Maryland's reinstatement of Syed's conviction and held that Hae's brother, Young Lee, had the right to be heard at any future hearing seeking to vacate Syed's conviction.

OA1067 After some of the strangest post-conviction twists in US legal history, the Supreme Court of Maryland has just reinstated Serial killer Adnan Syed's conviction for the murder of his high school ex-girlfriend Hae Min Lee 25 years ago. We begin by revisiting Matt's first-ever legal podcasting deep dive with Thomas on Serious Inquiries Only (SIO354) shortly after Syed's conviction was initially reinstated by the Maryland Appellate Court last April. How accurate were his predictions for what Maryland's highest court would do with this, as well as for the fallout which might follow if a new team of prosecutors were to be required to go before a new judge to actually present the evidence upon which they claimed to have brought the motion which freed Syed?  Matt then briefly breaks down the Supreme Court of Maryland's lengthy decision and explains why this is one of the strongest statements for victims rights ever made by any US state court. What are the odds of the prosecution now bringing a legitimate motion for a new trial? Why doesn't Adnan Syed have to return to prison now that officially once more stands convicted of first-degree murder? And would we even be here at all if a man who has spent the last 25 years lying about a murder that he committed with his bare hands at the age of 17 hadn't been introduced to a massive international audience by the only podcast your mother has ever listened to?  Maryland Supreme Court's decision in Adnan Syed v. In this interview, Young Lee, Canada Market Lead for GoDaddy, discusses a new report indicating many small businesses, the micro ones, in Canada are flourishing despite economic headwinds. PRESS RELEASE TORONTO, Feb. 22, 2024 /CNW/ — GoDaddy's annual international research initiative, Venture Forward, has released its inaugural report revealing the state of Canada's small business landscape. Drawing from data collected from over 770,000 Canadian small businesses, the landmark report offers detailed insights into the opportunities and challenges facing this vital sector of the economy. The findings, published today, indicate a thriving small business (0-9 employees) ecosystem in Canada, as the proliferation of online tools and services means the required startup capital and educational background required to start a business has never been easier to achieve. GoDaddy's data shows that 58% of online small businesses having been launched with less than $5,000 CAD in initial capital, while only 38% of business owners report completing a college degree showing education level of entrepreneurs doesn't impact their success or satisfaction levels. Unlocking the economic potential of small businesses The study also highlights the significant returns on investment for small businesses. More than half of small businesses generate over $2,500 in monthly revenue. Furthermore, one in four Canadian entrepreneurs now manage more than one business, underscoring the significance of small businesses to the national economy. Navigating economic headwinds But the broader economic landscape is not without challenges – only 27% of small business owners expressed confidence in the national economy over the next six months. Rising costs in energy (36%), business administration (35%), raw materials (34%), and transport costs (31%) have all been reported to impact their respective bottom lines over the past year. These challenges have contributed to increased stress levels among small business owners. A startling 44% report experiencing high to maximum levels of stress, anxiety, or burnout, with financial concerns (50%) being the most significant factor, followed by work-life balance (40%) and customer issues (21%) also contributing their levels of stress. Optimism and growth: The future of Canadian small businesses In spite of this, Canadian small business owners remain optimistic about the future. An overwhelming 70% express optimism about their business prospects, with almost all (94%), having confidence in their ability to run their businesses. Moreover, more than a third (35%) plan to hire additional employees in the next 12 months, indicating their commitment to growth and expansion. This underscores the importance of nurturing Canada's small business community, as the prosperity of these businesses contributes to the overall prosperity of their communities. Young Lee, Canada Market Lead commented: “GoDaddy's Venture Forward data is unique in its ability to capture and analyze small businesses and demonstrates their enormous economic contribution to Canadian life. Despite continued economic headwinds, our data shows that small businesses in Canada are resilient and flourishing. Whilst there is much to be optimistic about, business owners continue to face challenges, most notably in the form of rising costs. “GoDaddy is determined to support and empower Canadian entrepreneurs by offering affordable and easy to use tools to help small businesses get online and grow.” About Venture Forward Venture Forward is a multi-year research initiative, which analyses data from over 770,000 Canadian small businesses – conducted by GoDaddy to quantify the impact of small businesses on the Canadian economy and their local communities. The analysis is complemented by a survey of 4,883 Canadian small business owners conducted in November 2023. PRESS RELEASE TORONTO, Feb. 26, 2024 /CNW/ — Millions of Canadian entrepreneurs are potentially missing out on saving time and money by not harnessing AI for their businesses, according to a new survey by GoDaddy. The research, conducted among more than 500 Canadian small business owners, found that just one in five has used generative AI for business-related tasks, despite most expecting AI to help reduce costs and hours worked. The average Canadian small business owner estimates that generative AI tools could save them $2,600 and around 260 hours per year, while one in four believe the technology can reduce their workload by 500 hours or more annually. GoDaddy's data shows that a lack of confidence in applying generative AI to business tasks is the main barrier to more widespread use among entrepreneurs. Almost 3 out of 5 (62%) believe that generative AI could help them run and grow their business Half (50%) admit they don't know how to start using generative AI, citing a lack of easy-to-use solutions for small business owners Three in five (61%) survey respondents have used AI for personal tasks, demonstrating enthusiasm for the technology The Right Solution for Any Canadian Small Businesses To help new and existing small businesses easily take advantage of generative AI, GoDaddy just launched GoDaddy Airo™ in Canada and the U.S. an AI-powered solution designed to help them save time and attract new customers. In this episode of "B The Way Forward," recorded live at Grace Hopper Celebration 2023, host Brenda Darden Wilkerson sits down with her friend and colleague, Bo Young Lee, a transformative and inspirational voice in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Bo is currently serving as President of Advisory and Interim Chief Impact Officer at AnitaB.org and previously served as Uber's first Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer. Brenda and Bo, both dedicated to empowering women and underrepresented voices, get down to the realities surrounding diversity and inclusion in the workplace and how we can break down the myths about what a diverse culture really means. Bo describes how her upbringing and education helped shape her journey in the DEI space. She quickly realized that she had to reach outside of the cookie-cutter processes for inclusion and explore how each person's own experiences and backgrounds impact the work that we all do. This eye-opening conversation will not only change the way you view and interact with others, but it'll challenge you to look within yourself and acknowledge and improve the way you respond to your own biases and assumptions. “You don't really create true diversity if you don't have inclusion first. Because if you have a very diverse organization but it's not very inclusive, you actually have just basically compliance. You have quotas. That kind of compliance, quota-oriented way to diversifying an organization, that's actually what breeds the backlash.”  --- At AnitaB.org, we envision a future where the people who imagine and build technology mirror the people and societies for whom they build it. Is our gospel message biblically balanced and firmly contextualized in the context that we try to serve? There are numerous questions that we may ask ourselves when we desire to share God's love with people who are still alienated from it. Don't go!Hear the alligator story! The angel story once more! You love the spider story. You laugh at the spider.Let me tell it! But the boy is packing his shirts,he is looking for his keys. Are you a god,the man screams, that I sit mute before you?Am I a god that I should never disappoint? But the boy is here. In this episode, Laura analyses the most significant aspects of the state's motion report requesting that Adnan Syed's conviction be vacated. The report was filed on September 14 2022 and it ultimately led to Adnan Syed being freed on Monday 19th September, after 23 years in prison. Adnan Syed was convicted of first-degree murder, kidnapping and false imprisonment of his 18 year old ex-girlfriend, Hae Min Lee, in 1999.  Adnan has steadfastly maintained his innocence and denied any involvement in Hae's murder. The case was subject to the podcast “Serial” which debuted in 2014 and has been downloaded millions of times. Also, props to Undisclosed podcast Season 1 ‘The State v. Adnan Syed' with Rabia Chaudry, Susan Stimpson and Colin Miller goes through the case in painstaking detail and highlights key information that was omitted by Serial. I also recommend you watch the HBO's The Case Against Adnan Syed. This is an incredibly quick turnaround which is extremely rare in cases. Hae Min Lee's family were represented by Hae's younger brother, Young Lee, after Judge Phinn ordered a 30 minute recess in court to give him an opportunity to speak. Find out what happened in court, what Young Lee told the court, what the state argued and listen to Laura discuss what happens next with the case. Today we will be looking at the poem "Words for Worry" by Li-Young Lee. Bio: https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poets/li-young-lee The Poem: Words for Worry by Li-Young Lee Another word for father is worry. Worry boils the water for tea in the middle of the night. Worry trimmed the child's nails before singing him to sleep. Another word for son is delight, another word, hidden. And another is One-Who-Goes-Away. Yet another, One-Who-Returns. So many words for son: He-Dreams-for-All-Our-Sakes. His-Play-Vouchsafes-Our-Winter-Share. His-Dispersal-Wins-the-Birds. But only one word for father. And sometimes a man is both. Which is to say sometimes a man manifests mysteries beyond his own understanding. For instance, being the one and the many, and the loneliness of either. Or the living light we see by, we never see. Or the sole word weighs heavy as a various name. And sleepless worry folds the laundry for tomorrow. Tired worry wakes the child for school. Orphan worry writes the note he hides in the child's lunch bag. It begins, Dear Firefly…. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/bppod/support

Michael reads 'From Blossoms'. ***** From Blossoms by Li-Young Lee From blossoms comes this brown paper bag of peaches we bought from the boy at the bend in the road where we turned toward signs painted Peaches. From laden boughs, from hands, from sweet fellowship in the bins, comes nectar at the roadside, succulent peaches we devour, dusty skin and all, comes the familiar dust of summer, dust we eat. O, to take what we love inside, to carry within us an orchard, to eat not only the skin, but the shade, not only the sugar, but the days, to hold the fruit in our hands, adore it, then bite into the round jubilance of peach. There are days we live as if death were nowhere in the background; from joy to joy to joy, from wing to wing, from blossom to blossom to impossible blossom, to sweet impossible blossom. A poem about blossoms that is not only about blossoms. Li-Young Lee remembers a glorious day when he and a companion bought peaches; peaches that had come from blossoms. And in the taste of peaches, the brown paper bag they came in, sold by a boy at a bend in a road, the poem tells us — again and again — that sweetness, yearning and generosity is possible, on all kinds of days.Li-Young Lee is the author of five critically acclaimed books of poetry, most recently The Undressing.
