You've probably heard the statement: "Lead aprons are no longer required." But what does that actually mean? Csepelről Kanadába: Szabó László, a Calgary Magyar Ház elnöke 1.rész ep. 319   Ebben az adásban Szabó Lászlóval beszélgetünk, a Calgary Magyar Ház, pontosabban a Calgary Magyar Kultúra Egyesület elnökével. A beszélgetés sajnos időhiány miatt rövidebbre sikerült, mint szerettük volna, de így is egy nagyon érdekes életútba kaptunk betekintést.   László Csepelről indult, majd 1981-ben, 18 évesen, a feleségével együtt Kanadába került. Eredetileg nem Calgaryt választották, egyszerűen oda szólt a repülőjegy. Így kezdődött egy kanadai magyar történet, amelyben benne van a disszidálás, az újrakezdés, a nyelvtanulás, a szakmai újratervezés és a közösségépítés is.     Beszélünk arról, milyen volt Magyarországról elindulni a 80-as években, hogyan fogadták őket Kanadában, miért lett Calgary végül jó választás, és hogyan működött akkoriban a bevándorlók támogatása. László mesél arról is, hogy villanyszerelő szakmával érkezett, de a kanadai papírok, vizsgák és nyelvi akadályok miatt végül más utakon kellett boldogulnia.     Szóba kerül a kanadai mentalitás is: a bizalom, az udvariasság, a mindennapi kedvesség, és az a különbség, amit egy magyar ember nagyon hamar megérez Észak-Amerikában. László szerint Kanadában sokszor előbb megbíznak benned, és csak akkor változik ez, ha rászolgálsz az ellenkezőjére. Ez éles kontraszt ahhoz képest, amit sokan Magyarországon megszoktak.     A beszélgetés egyik különleges része, amikor kiderül, hogy Lászlóék éveket éltek újra Magyarországon, és egy rajzfilmstúdiót is vezettek, amely családi kötődéssel kapcsolódott a magyar animáció világához. Innen vezetett az út vissza Kanadába, majd a handyman, vagy magyarul ezermester élet felé.     László ma egyszemélyes vállalkozásban dolgozik handymanként Calgaryban. A villanyszerelő háttér szerinte nemcsak a szakmai tudás miatt fontos, hanem azért is, mert megtanította problémát megoldani. Nem csak kicserélni valamit, hanem megérteni, miért nem működik. Ez a gondolkodás nagyon sokat számít egy olyan szakmában, ahol minden nap más problémát kell megoldani.     A végén természetesen szóba kerül a Calgary Magyar Ház is. László nagyjából 9-10 éve tölti be az elnöki szerepet, és őszintén beszél arról, hogy a magyar közösségek egyik legnagyobb kihívása az utánpótlás. A fiatalokat nehéz bevonni, kevés az önkéntes, és sokszor ugyanazokra az emberekre hárul minden feladat.     Ez most inkább egy első találkozás volt, mint teljes életútinterjú. "How do we hold space for the miracle of survival while grieving the loss of a dream?" Dr. Walker is a licensed clinical social worker, professor, and public speaker with over a decade of experience addressing mental health, racial justice, and restorative healing. But beyond her impressive credentials, she joins us today as a sister in loss, blending her profound scholarship with her own raw, lived experience. Dr. Walker shares one of the most unique and harrowing pregnancy journeys we have ever heard on this platform. After surviving a life-threatening car accident, she was hospitalized in the trauma ICU, where she discovered she was 3.5 weeks pregnant. In the midst of severe physical trauma, this baby felt like an added, beautiful miracle. Tragically, just five weeks later at her first OB appointment, she and her partner learned the pregnancy was non-viable. Mai vendégem Bozsoky Szabolcs Zoltán, erdélyi származású magyar futballedző, testnevelő tanár és sportmenedzsment szakember, aki immár több mint 12 éve Kanadában él és dolgozik a labdarúgás világában.   A beszélgetés a Torontói Magyar Fesztiválon, a Hungarofesten készült, ahol Szabolccsal nemcsak a fociról, hanem magyar identitásról, kanadai újrakezdésről, sportkultúráról, közösségről és életútról is beszélgettünk.   Szabolcs Erdélyből indult, Romániában született, magyar állampolgárként érkezett Kanadába, ma pedig kanadai állampolgárként dolgozik vezetőedzőként. A beszélgetésben elmeséli, hogyan jutott el a testnevelő tanári pályától a kanadai futballrendszerig, milyen volt 100 kilónyi csomaggal új életet kezdeni, és mit jelent számára az, hogy büszke magyar emberként dolgozhat Észak-Amerikában.   Szóba kerül a kanadai és európai futball közötti különbség, az utánpótlás-nevelés, a szülők szerepe, a gyerekek sportolási lehetőségei, a Toronto FC, az MLS, a kanadai profi bajnokság, valamint az is, hogy milyen fejlődésen ment keresztül a kanadai labdarúgás az elmúlt években.   Szabolcs jelenleg a University of Toronto Mississauga férfi csapatának vezetőedzője, emellett komoly szerepet vállal a kanadai magyar származású fiatal tehetségek támogatásában is. A célja, hogy minél több magyar gyökerű sportolónak segítsen lehetőséget találni, akár Magyarországon, akár a nemzetközi futball világában.   Beszélünk arról is, hogy mit jelent a CONCACAF A edzői diploma, miben hasonlít vagy különbözik az UEFA rendszerétől, és miért különleges, hogy Szabolcs magyar származású edzőként ezen az úton is komoly szakmai elismerést szerzett.   A beszélgetés végén egy teljesen másik oldala is előkerül: a zene. Toye made the move into television directing after working for five years as a production assistant and a decade as an editor. This background in the editing room gave him a solid sense of how to tell a clear story, which helped considerably in his work on such complex series as Chuck (NBC 2007–12) and Fringe (Fox 2008–13). Los Angeles native Toye got his first screen credit working as a production assistant on Billy Crystal’s 1989 HBO special Midnight Train to Moscow, before moving into visual effects on films like The Addams Family (1991) and then working as an assistant editor on hit films such as Forrest Gump (1994) and Men in Black (1997). As a TV director, Toye cut his teeth on network TV action and sci-fi thrillers like Alias, Lost, and Fringe and has also worked on character-rich dramas such as The Good Wife. That experience running the gamut between drama genres served Toye well in recent years, directing episodes of genre series like Westworld, Snowpiercer, Watchmen and The Walking Dead. In 2024, his prolific output included The Boys and Fallout. The same year, Toye received acclaim for his work on Shōgun, helming four episodes of the Emmy-winning FX drama series, including season finale “A Dream of a Dream.” The season’s penultimate episode, “Crimson Sky,” earned Toye his first-ever Emmy for outstanding directing, which was also Toye’s first-ever career nomination in the category. Toye followed it up by directing the pilot episode of Prime Video's prequel series The Terminal List: Dark Wolf, starring Chris Pratt and Taylor Kitsch. A follower left a comment asking if their 30 years of experience mean something. Sure, it means a lot...but it doesn't automatically mean you're current. I've been an RDH for 20 years. I know what it looks like when experience is the real thing, and I know what it looks like when someone has done the same thing on repeat for two decades and called it tenure. Both exist. Dentistry is full of both. In this episode, we dig into a real question from an experienced hygienist starting over at a new office, and we don't let either side off the hook. Because there are two very different versions of this story. Version one: you've kept up, you've grown, and you're walking into an office that's behind where you are. Version two: you've been doing the same thing for 30 years and calling it experience. In this episode: ▪️ How to tell the difference between expertise and habit ▪️ Why the interview isn't the time to pitch improvements, regardless of how right you are ▪️ How intentional questions help you vet a workplace before you're committed to it ▪️ What a team's response to new ideas tells you about the culture ▪️ Why trust has to come before change, even when the change is obvious ▪️ The question worth asking every time: "Is there anything here that would prevent me from growing?" The framework: Problem. Understand the consequences. Offer a solution. Vajtay Gabriella, a Reconnect Hungary program New York-i igazgatója és a New Brunswick-i magyar közösség egyik meghatározó alakja mesél arról, hogyan lehet Amerikában magyarnak maradni, hogyan lehet a nyelvet, a kultúrát és a közösséget generációkon át megtartani.   Ebben a MÓKA Podcast epizódban Vajtay Gabriellával, vagy ahogy sokan ismerik, Gabi Vajtay-jal beszélgetünk. Gabi másodgenerációs amerikai magyar, New Brunswickban született, magyar cserkészetben, magyar iskolában és egy erős diaszpóra közösségben nőtt fel. Szülei 1956 után érkeztek Amerikába, itt építettek új életet, de a magyar nyelv, a családi kötődés és Magyarország szeretete végig megmaradt.   A beszélgetés egyik legfontosabb gondolata: „nincs nyelv, nincs nemzet." Gabi őszintén mesél arról, hogyan nevelték őt magyarul, hogyan adta tovább ezt a négy fiának, és hogyan próbálják most már az unokák életében is megtartani a magyar szót. Szóba kerül a cserkészet, a magyar iskola, a templom, a barátságok, a házasságok, és az a különleges közösségi erő, amely évtizedek óta összetartja az amerikai magyarokat.   Beszélgetünk a New Brunswick-i Hungarian Festivalról is, amely több mint ötven éve az egyik legnagyobb magyar esemény Amerikában. Egy napra Somerset Street valódi kis Magyarországgá változik: lángos, kürtőskalács, néptánc, magyar zene, árusok, családok, régi barátok és új találkozások. Gabi elmeséli, mennyi munka van egy ilyen fesztivál mögött, hogyan nőtt néhány árusból közel hetven vendor, és milyen költségek, engedélyek, önkéntesek és támogatók kellenek ahhoz, hogy ez az esemény minden évben létrejöjjön.   A Reconnect Hungary programról is részletesen beszélünk. Ez a program magyar származású amerikai és kanadai fiataloknak segít újra kapcsolódni a gyökereikhez. In the summer of 2017, she actively resisted the white supremacist marches in her community, Charlottesville, Virginia. The city became a symbol of lethal resurging white supremacist violence. She remains active in a variety of university and community initiatives, including the Community Engaged Scholars program.
